Josephine Krebs, 77
BRADY LAKE - Josephine (Skibiski) Krebs, 77, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Va. Born Sept. 19, 1922 in Stow, she was the daughter of Anthony and Josephine (Filar) Skibiski. Formerly of Stow, she had lived in Brady Lake for 26 years. Mrs. Krebs was a homemaker. She attended St. Patrick's Church in Kent. Survivors include her husband, Lester E., to whom she was married 58 years; sons, Earl E. (Karen) of Brimfield and David L. (Linda) of Ravenna; daughter, Diane C. of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Lawrence of Brady Lake, Edward of Ravenna and Adam of Rootstown. Three brothers and one sister died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. Robert Sabatino officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.

David King, 55
David A. "Sky" King, 55, of 5635 Ravenna Road, Newton Falls, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999 at his home. He had Lou Gehrig's Disease. Born April 28, 1944 in Cleveland, he was the son of Dwight E. and Helen (Prohn) King. Formerly of Mantua, he moved to Newton Falls 10 years ago. Mr. King was a mechanic employed at Pep-Boys. He attended Faith Chapel Church in North Fort Myers, Fla., and was active in developing silhouettes for Home-Town Christmas. He enjoyed repairing autos, gardening and the outdoors. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Lucinda (Moffatt), whom he married Dec. 23, 1974; sons, David D. Downing of Durbin, W. Va. and Allen E. King of Newton Falls; one grandchild; brother, Claude of Mantua; and sister, Patricia Magyarics of Mantua. His parents died previously. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Memorials may be made to the Newton Falls Senior Citizens' Van Organization in Newton Falls.

John Satterlee, 79
GARRETTSVILLE - John "Junior" Satterlee, 79, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a six-month illness. Born Aug. 18, 1920 in Hiram Township, he was the son of John and Bessie (Ambrose) Satterlee. He was a life resident of the Garrettsville and Hiram areas. Mr. Satterlee worked at Hermann Pickle Farms in Garrettsville and also was self-employed caring for yards and gardens in Garrettsville. He was a member of Faith Evangelical Free Church of Windham. Survivors include his sister, Kathryn (Chester) Everman of Garrettsville; two nephews; and three nieces. His brother, Kenneth, died in 1993. His sister, Edna Kimpton, died in 1999. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram, with the Rev. Peter King officiating.

George Furry, 70
George A. Furry, 70, of Cortland, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, of a cancer-related illness at the Hospice Unit of Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Born July 26, 1929 in Ravenna, he was the son of Paul and Bervie (Robertson) Furry. He was a 1947 graduate of Ravenna High School and moved to Cortland in 1964. Mr. Furry retired in 1996 from the Warren Tribune Chronicle after 49 and-a-half years. He worked as a pressman and press foreman. He served in the National Guard in the 1950s. He was a member of the Slovak Club of Warren and enjoyed carpentry, machine repair and vegetable gardening. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Harlan), whom he married Feb. 10, 1951; daughters, Connie L. Hainer, Brenda L. and Donna L., all of Cortland; two grandchildren; and sister, Ivory Morris of Fairfield, Fla. An infant son, Timothy A., died previously. There will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crown Hill Burial Park Chapel in Vienna, Ohio. Arrangements were made by Selby-Cole Funeral Home, Vienna. Memorials may be made to Trumbull Memorial Hospital's hospice unit or the American Cancer Society.

Norma Makarewicz, 75
Norma M. Makarewicz, 75, of Troy Township, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Holly Hill Nursing Home in Newbury after a short illness. Born Jan. 9, 1924 in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of James and Grace LaCava. She was a resident of Troy Township for five years. She lived in Maple Heights for many years. Mrs. Makarewicz was supervisor of the Chagrin Falls school system food services for many years, retiring in 1989. Formerly she worked in Sharon, Pa. in the food service department of W.T. Grant Co. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middlefield, the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2122 Auxiliary of Bedford, American Legion Auxillary No. 39, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary of Solon and Hungarian Club of Bedford. She was a volunteer visitor for Hospice of Geauga County and a volunteer at Geauga Regional Hospital in Chardon. Survivors include her son, Daniel Funk of Lakeland, Fla.; daughters, Paula (Michael) McGivern of Sharon. Pa., Sharon Barley-Komara of Boardman and Terry (Ron) Farabaugh of Solon; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Nelda Cassidy of Altoona, Pa. Her first husband, Harold Barley died in 1994. Her second husband, Joseph Makarewicz, died in 1996. Her brother, James LaCava, died previously. No calling hours will be held. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Thelma Lou Krause, 38
EDINBURG - Thelma Lou (Lattimer) Krause, 38, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999 at Robinson Memorial Hospital of cancer. Born April 19, 1961 in Ravenna, she was an Edinburg-Charlestown area resident all her life. She was a 1979 graduate of Southeast High School. Mrs. Krause was employed by Belden & Blake Oil Co. of Ravenna. She formerly was employed by Basicomputer Co. of Akron. She was a member of Charlestown United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Charlestown Zoning Board, a founding member of Charlestown Girls Softball Association, secretary of the Portage South Girls Softball Organization., a 4-H adviser and a Girl Scout leader. Survivors include her husband, Keith A., to whom she was married 15 years; daughter, Danielle A. ,at home; mother, Sandra D. (Miner) Lattimer of Shalersville; brothers, John E. Lattimer of Edinburg and Raymond C. (Cindy) Lattimer of Ravenna; and sister, Lois L. (Brian) Todd of Michigan. Her grandparents, John and Dova Miner and Ray and Esther Six, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Norma Bates officiating. Jane Kay, 98
Jane E. (Wolf) Kay, 98, of Newton Falls, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999 at the Laurie-Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls. Born Nov. 21, 1900 in Leechburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Stull) Evans. Mrs. Kay was the oldest member of the United Methodist Church of Newton Falls. She enjoyed flower gardening and traveling. Survivors include her sons, Howard, Richard and Robert Wolf, all of Newton Falls; daughter, Martha Hancock of Newton Falls; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Tom Evans of Leechburg, Pa.; and sisters, Ann Khuns and Ruth Patterson, both of Pennsylvania. Her husbands, Howard Wolf and Earl Kay, four brothers and two sisters died previously. There will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery. Flora Burt, 90
Former Windham resident Flora A. Burt, 90, of Fort Payne, Ala., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999 at Crowne Health Care in Fort Payne. Born June 4, 1909, she was the daughter of Thomas A. and Amelia E. (Moore) Foy. Mrs. Burt was a homemaker. She was a member of the Windham Baptist Church. Survivors include her sons, William A. of Fort Payne, Ala. and Joe C. of Manchester, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Samuel A., and daughter, Betty Jean Rudolph, died previously. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walkers Chapel Methodist Church in Fort Payne. Susan McCullough
GARRETTSVILLE - Susan McCullough, 60, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna following a lengthy illness with cancer. Born Oct. 29, 1938 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Joe and Zona (Masters) Magos. She was a life resident of the area. Mrs. McCullough and her husband, Thomas, owned and operated Main Street Meat Market in Garrettsville for 20 years. She also worked at the Giant Eagle bakery in Ravenna. Survivors include her son, Ron of Angola, Ind.; daughter, Rhonda McCullough Jones of Garrettsville; one grandchild; parents, Joe and Zona Magos of Freedom; brothers, Bob of Lafeyette, La. and Ron of St. Louis, Mo. Her husband, Thomas H., whom she married Sept. 7, 1958, died Aug. 11, 1998. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday Oct. 30 at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Dwaine Stanley officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville. Dennis L. Schoultz
Dennis L. Schoultz, 39, of 10615 Meadow Glenn, Apt. 1507 Houston, Texas, died Tuesday Sept. 21, 1999, at Memorial S.W. Hospital in Houston, of an aneurysm. Born Oct. 30, 1959 in Warren, he was the son of William and Leona (Shutiok) Schoultz. He was a graduate of Newton Falls High School. Mr. Schoultz was a photo technician specialist for Ridgeway in Houston. Survivors include his mother, Leona of Newton Falls; sisters, Louise Montgomery of Diamond, Rebecca Jolliff of Kent, Cheryl Jellison of Indiana and Doretta Upchurch of Tennessee; and 13 nieces and nephews. His father, William, and brothers, Leonard and Roderick, died previously. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls. Burial will be in Newton Falls Cemetery. Memorials may be made to charity.

Martha H. Cook
Martha H. Cook, 94, of Clearwater, Fla., who was superintendent of the Hiram Public Schools from 1945 to 1947, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999 in Clearwater. Born May 3, 1905 in Bainbridge, she was the daughter of Bert E. and Georgia (Howell) Harper.She graduated from Hiram College. Mrs. Cook taught at Bainbridge High School from 1931 until 1945, when she was named superintendent of Hiram Public Schools. She taught in high school in St. Petersburg, Fla. from 1947 until she retired in 1964. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Kemp of Andover; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Paul D., whom she married in 1964 in St. Petersburg, died Dec. 9, 1995. Her brother and three sisters died previously. Services were held in Clearwater, Fla. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hiram. Local arrangements were made by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville.

Michelle Haas, 23
Michelle L. "Shelly" Haas, 23, of North Water Street, Kent, was pronounced dead Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, in Braceville Township in Trumbull County. Streetsboro police have charged James O. Reline Jr. of Warren with her murder. Born March 6, 1976, in Cuyahoga Falls, she was the daughter of Ross and Patricia (Bernadine) Haas. She loved children and worked as a nanny. Survivors include her parents, Patricia of Kent and Ross of California; brother, Ross Jr. of California; sisters, Kim and Bev, both of Kent; and grandmother, Rose Meeks of California. Born Aug. 28, 1982, in Alliance, he was the son of Jim R. and Kim K. (Creamer) Caldwell. He was a junior at Southeast High School. Survivors include his parents, Jim and Kim Caldwell of Paris Township; brothers, James R. of Alliance and Richard G.E. at home; grandfather, Glenn Creamer of North Benton, Ohio; and grandmothers, Joan Triplett of Alliance and Eleanor Caldwell of Sebring. Patricia Thompson, 83
Patricia S. Thompson, 83, of South Canal Street, Newton Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at the Laurie Ann Nursing Home of heart failure. Born March 6, 1916, in Edenborn, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Anna (Pavliscak) Miklosh. She was a Newton Falls area resident since childhood. She was a homemaker and housewife. Mrs. Thompson was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Newton Falls. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Survivors include son, Ellice "Thom" Thompson of Newton Falls; daughters, Patty Donell of Rootstown and Cheryl Mendenhall of Bowling Green, Ky.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; brother, Gayza Miklosh of Cleveland; and sister, Margaret Miklosh of Detroit, Mich. Her husband, former police chief Ellice E. Thompson, whom she married Feb. 27, 1943, died in 1989. Seven sisters also died previously. Thomas Yekel, 82
PARIS - Thomas J. Yekel, 82, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Imperial Skilled Care Center in Warren after complications following surgery. Born April 16, 1917, in Niles, he was the son of Albert and Mary (Scanlon) Yekel. Formerly of Scio, Ohio, he lived in Paris for 2 1/2 years. Mr. Yekel was an electrician for local 573 in Warren. He enjoyed horses and horse racing. Survivors include his sons, Thomas of Paris Township and Herman of Scio, Ohio; daughters, Judith Wright of Warren and Elaine Tryon of Miami, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Rosemary Rodgers of Pittsburgh, Pa. His brothers, William and Herman; and two grandchildren died previously. PARIS TOWNSHIP - Former Paris Township resident, Betty Jane Richards, 81, of 461 S. Canfield Niles Road, Austintown, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Manor West Health Care Center of natural causes. Born Oct. 8, 1917, in Cambridge, Ohio, she was the daughter of Clifford E. and Ethel (Willis) Stanley. She was a Paris Township resident most of her life. She graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1935. Mrs. Richards worked at Stevens Level Co. in Newton Falls and worked at Paris Elementary School. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was a former member of Women's Welsh-What-Not Club and National Organization of Pacers and Trotters. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Craiglow of Ravenna; two grandchildren; brother, William Stanley of Warren; and sisters, Mrs. Don (Gerry) Oreskovich of North Jackson, Ohio, Mrs. Elizabeth McLaughlin of Newton Falls, Mrs. Maurice (Sarah Ann) Stutz of Warren and Mrs. Freda Swartz of Indiana, Pa. Former Ravenna resident, June I. Bowersox, 72, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights after complications from a stroke. Born Nov. 14, 1926, in Hawthorne, Pa., she was the daughter of William and Bertha (Drayer) Bish. She was raised and graduated high school in Hawthorne, Pa. She lived in Ravenna 27 years and moved to South Russell three months ago. Survivors include her husband, Ed, who she married in 1946; son, Bud Bowersox of North Olmsted; daughter, Connie Green of South Russell; four grandchildren; and three siblings. NEWTON FALLS - Clara Byers, 64, of 117 W. Church St., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at her residence. Born Dec. 6, 1934, in Georgia, she was the daughter of Frank H. and Reba (Loudermilk) Byers. Mrs. Byers was self employed for 16 years. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy N. Cearley of Newton Falls; brother, Clark Byers of Murphy, N.C.; sister, Sue Byers of Murphy, N.C.; two nephews; a niece; and a grand-niece. Her daughter, Kimberly Rebecca, died previously. Gladys O. Hall, 75, of 4246 S.R. 82, Braceville Township, Newton Falls,, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at her home. Born Sept. 26, 1924, in Newton Falls, she was the daughter of Newton and Pearl (Hawkins) Brown. A homemaker, she enjoyed crocheting. She was a 1943 graduate of Newton Falls High. Survivors include husband, Arthur M., whom she married Sept. 4, 1947; and a sister, Lois Mountain of Braceville. Four brothers, Charles, Oris, Lewis, and Robert Brown, and sisters, Alice Suter and Estelle Perhert, all died previously. Blaine "Ralph" Mann
PALMYRA - Blaine "Ralph" Mann, 80, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Feb. 5, 1919, in Maryland, he was the son of Theodore Blaine and Mary Elizabeth (Barnhart) Mann. He lived in Palmyra for more than 60 years. Survivors include his wife, Francheon "Fran" (Casey); sons, Robert of Ravenna, Craig (Christine), Rick (Anne Marie) and Todd (Laura), all of Palmyra; daughters, Betty Robinson of Brady Lake, Cindy (Boyd) Moore of Ravenna and Diane (Rex) Ebie of Edinburg; and 11 grandchildren. His brother, James, and sister, Dorothy Chase, died previously. Frank A. Flower
Former Kent resident Frank A. Flower, 85, of Copley, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at the Hospice Care Center. Born May 14, 1914, in Kent, he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1932. Mr. Flower and his wife, Teresa, owned and operated a vegetable farm on Wright Road before retiring to Naples, Fla. He was a member of Copley United Methodist Church. Survivors include his sons, Stanley (Yolanda) of Copley and Bruce (Shirley) of Rock Hill, S.C.; daughters, Linda (Dr. Robert M.) Wolff of Miami, Fla. and Dr. Frances C. Flower of Fairlawn; nine grandchildren; sisters Lillian Flower Lewis of Cortland and Marian Barry of Beaver Falls, Pa.: brothers, Horace of Kent and Charles of Santa Maria, Calif.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Mary Panzer of Ft. Myers, Fla. His wife, Teresa, died in August 1999. His sisters, Margie Kenward, Maxine Siefert and Florence McDivitt, and son-in-law, Dr. Brian Smith, died previously. BRIMFIELD - Thomas Ginn, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999. Born in Akron, he was a life resident of Northeastern Ohio. Mr. Ginn was a specialty advertising executive in the Akron area for 35 years. He was active in the Kiwanis Club for many years. He served in World War II, earning the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Joan, to whom he was married 42 years; sons, Terrence of Kent and Michael of Miami, Fla.; brother, William (Betty) of Arvada, Colo.; and sister, Margaret (Joe) Colant of Akron. William R. Kruger
William R. Kruger, 95, of Cherry Street, Kent, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 at Kensington Care Center in Aurora. Born May 6, 1904, he was the son of William F. and Amelia B. (Long) Kruger. Mr. Kruger retired from the Erie Lackawana Railroad, where he was a master carpenter, after 48 years. He also raised and sold pumpkins in the fall. Survivors include his grandson, Glen E. Jr. (Chris) of Kent, granddaughters, Kyna (Michael) Rose of Aurora, Kim of Kent and Penny of Kent; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Pearl M. Shephard of Kent. His wife, Clarice C. Dorothy (Dangler) Biasella
Dorothy (Dangler) Biasella, 89, of Elmwood Drive, Kent, who taught at three Kent schools in the 1930s and 1940s, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at her home. Born March 21, 1910, in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of Adolph and Mary (O'Connor) Stadler. She moved to Kent in 1920 and graduated from St. Patrick School in 1924, Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1928 and Kent State University in 1932 with a bachelor's degree in education. Mrs. Biasella worked as a recreational director in Washington in 1932 and in Detroit in 1933. She taught fifth grade at St. Patrick School from 1933 to 1934 and fourth, fifth and sixth grades at Central School from 1934 to 1936. She taught seventh and eighth grades at Roosevelt from 1944 to 1945 and also taught at Central throughout World War II. Mrs. Biasella was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent and a charter member and past president of the Kent Sorosis Club. Survivors include her nephews, Larry Beal and Robert (Linda) Beal, both of Kent, and niece, Betty Williams of Kent. Her first husband, Frank J. Dangler Jr., whom she married in 1936, was law director of Kent for 10 years and mayor of Kent from 1948 to 1951. He died Aug. 14, 1968. Her second husband, Raymond Biasella, whom she married Oct. 6, 1969, died in 1994. Her brother, Albert Stadler; and sisters, Minella Molesworth, Lucy Kloek and Rita Beal, also died previously. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, with the Rev. Timothy E. Kenney officiating. David Spencer, 67
GARRETTSVILLE - David W. Spencer, Sr., 67, died Wednesday Sept. 29, 1999, at home, after a two-year illness with cancer. Born Aug. 9, 1932 in Nelson Township, he was the son of Edward F. and Elizabeth (Norton) Spencer. He was a lifetime resident of the Nelson/Garrettsville area. Mr. Spencer was a tow motor operator at General Motors Lordstown Division for 28 years until retiring in 1994. He previously worked at Geauga Industries in Middlefield for 11 years. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War veteran, he earned two Bronze Stars. He was an avid farmer, hunter and sportsman. Survivors include his wife, Inest "Toots" (Belknap), whom he married Sept. 20, 1960; sons, Larry (Carolyn) Dean, Keith Dean, Calvin (Wilma) Grant, David (Gail) Spencer, Jr., and Edward (Darla) Spencer, all of Nelson, Robert (Tricia) Dean of Newton Falls; daughters, Rosalie Fry of Champion, Brenda (Robert) Dorsey of Littleton, W.Va.; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Marilyn) of Hiram; and sisters, Ruth (Leroy) Vancura and Janet (Bill) Phelps, both of Garrettsville. His son, Jay, and sister, Dorothy, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Joseph Board officiating. Burial will be in Harrington Cemetery in Nelson, with graveside military honors by American Legion Post No. 540 of Cortland.
