Services were held Friday at Bedford Church of the Nazarene for Dorothy Ann (Bowen) Agler, 67, who died Monday, May 1, 2000.
Survivors include her husband, Michael, to whom she was married for 35 years; a son, Michael Phillip; daughters, Ruth Ann (John) Money and Esther Marie; one granddaughter; brothers, the Rev. Paul, John and Bill Bowen; and sisters, Margaret and Ruth Steckel, Mary Steigerwald and Lois Paul. A brother, Jim Bowen, died previously.
Arrangements were handled by the Busch Family Chapel of Cleveland.

Edsel B. Carr, 71
Lived in Ravenna Twp. for 59 years
Edsel B. Carr, 71, of Ravenna Township, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born July 11, 1928, in Akron, he was the son of Dewey and Euna (Stonestreet) Carr. He had previously resided in Randolph and Rootstown and lived in Ravenna Township for the last 59 years.
Mr. Carr retired from the shipping and receiving department at General Tire & Rubber Co. in 1983.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda (Richards), to whom he was married for 47 years; sons, Ronald and Gary, both of Ravenna; daughter, Jean Ann (Loran) Sink, of Kent; grandson, Nick Carr; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Carr; brother, Eldon, of Hamilton; and sisters, Ernestine Williams and Deborah Carr, both of Akron. A brother, Dewey Jr., died previously.
Calling hours will be held one hour prior to funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel with the Rev. Carl Holm officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
Grace E. Delin, 90
Grace E. Delin, 90, of Ravenna, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at her home.
Born June 4, 1909 in Kent, she was the daughter of Harry and Anna (Eisele) Ward. She had lived in Ravenna for most of her life.
Mrs. Delin was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Ravenna.
Survivors include her sons: David (Barbara) and Happy, both of Ravenna; daughter, Nancy (James) Bachtel of Ravenna; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and sister, Josephine Coleman of Kent. Her husband, Hallie F., who owned Hal's Floors in Ravenna, died Nov. 25, 1977. Her brother, Louis Ward; sisters, Agnes Keverkamp, Mary Christensen, and granddaughters, Terri and Nancy Bachtel, died previously.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
Katerine Root Warner, 90
A memorial service will be held Friday for Katherine Root Warner, 90, of Earl Avenue, Kent, who died Friday, April 7, 2000, at her home.
Born June 20, 1909 in Medina, she was the daughter of Huber M. and Mabel (Knisely) Root.
Mrs. Warner was retired in the mid-1960s as a librarian for the Akron Public Library.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Kent.
Survivors include her son, Huber of Kensington, Md., daughter, Frances Ransone of Arnold, Md.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, David Root of Sebring, Fla. Her husband, Richard, died in 1983.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church in Kent. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.
Melinda S. Almashy
Melinda Sue Almashy, 20, of Newton Falls Road, Ravenna, died of complications from surgery Saturday, May 6, 2000, at University Hospital in Cleveland.
Born May 23, 1979 in Warren, she was a lifetime area resident. She was a 1997 graduate of Newton Falls High School.
Miss Almashy formerly was employed as a clerk at Raynee Daze Gift Shop.
She enjoyed dancing and shopping.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Almashy of Randalman, N.C.; mother and stepfather, Diane (Cassi) and James L. Walsh, of Paris Township; brother, Zachary Walden of Paris Township; sister, Angela Almashy of Newton Falls; stepsister, Jennifer Almashy of Randalman, N.C.; grandparents, Gabe Surick of Akron and Virginia Almashy of Randalman; great-grandmother, Juanita Lark of Paris Township; and fiance, Jason Gray, of Liberty.

Clark R. "Hooks" Sommers
STREETSBORO - Clark R. "Hooks" Sommers, 71, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Maplewood Care Center in Streetsboro.
Born Aug. 1, 1928, in Cleveland, he was the son of August and Hazel (Clark) Sommers. He had lived in Streetsboro for 40 years.
Mr. Sommers was a stockman for Air Maze in Bedford, Ohio.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Streetsboro United Methodist Church, the W.K. Ricksecker Masonic Lodge No. 606 in Aurora, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 33rd Degree in Canton and the Streetsboro American Legion No. 685.
Survivors include his wife, Johanna (Schleper), whom he married Sept. 22, 1951; brother, Jack, of Brooklyn Heights; sister, Erma Orr, of Medina; and many nieces and nephews. His sister, June Jones, died previously.
Calling hours will be held one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Saturday at Shorts Funeral Home, Streetsboro Chapel, with the Rev. James Cox officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Streetsboro.
Norma P. Santee
ROOTSTOWN - Norma P. Santee, 96, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Aug. 31, 1903, in Spencer, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Laphy J. and Mary Melissa (Kincaid) Santee, and had lived in Randolph for 55 years before moving to Rootstown two years ago to live with her daughter.
Mrs. Santee was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atwater for 39 years.
Survivors include her son, Francis Arthur (Margaret) Santee of Tallmadge; daughter, Norma Jean (David) Wilkes of Rootstown; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Virgie Lowe of Barberton and Sergie Umbaugh of Florida. Her husband, Arthur Santee, died March 17, 1961. Brothers David, Harlen and Woodrow Santee, and a sister, Oma Ralston, also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Atwater, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Timothy Black officiating. Helen Moody
GARRETTSVILLE - Helen F. Moody, 82, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at her home after a period of failing health.
Born June 10, 1917, in Spencer, Mass., she was the daughter of Frederick and Geraldine (Woodward) Flint. She lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire before moving to Garrettsville in 1998.
Mrs. Moody was a homemaker.
She was a secretary at the First Baptist Church of Melrose, Mass. from 1959 to 1979. She was active with the First Congregational Church of Melrose, where she participated in many church social and ladies group functions.
She and her husband belonged to a weekly Bridge Club for more than 50 years and also enjoyed tent traveling over most of the United States for 20 years. Since living in Garrettsville, Mrs. Moody was known among the "Lunch Bunch" who gather at the Hiram Christian Church.
Survivors include her sons, Jonathan (Jane) of Garrettsville and David (Maria) of New Fairfield, Conn.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Charles Flint of Cornwall-On-Hudson, N.Y.; and sister, Marjorie Dearden of Alburquerque, N.M. Her husband, Fredric W. Jr., whom she married Aug. 10, 1940, died in 1996.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hiram Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Winthrop Cemetery in Winthrop, Mass. Arrangements are being handled by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Dorothy Bowers Allen
Dorothy Bowers Allen, 87, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, in Escondido, Calif.
Born Sept. 4, 1912, in Kent, she was the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth Bowers.
Mrs. Allen worked in the accounting department at Davey Expert Tree Co. until her marriage in 1960. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Kent.
Survivors include her stepson, Bartlett (Virginia) of Rochester, NY.; three step-grandchildren and sister, Susan Tuttle of Ravenna. Her husband, Emmett, whom she married July 9, 1960, died previously.
There will be no calling hours or services.

Gertrude Lyons
Gertrude Lyons, 90, of Ravenna, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Altercare of Ravenna.
Born Nov. 1, 1909, in Fayette County, Pa., she was the daughter of William and Vallie (Waggle) Deffenbaugh. She resided in Lake Lynn, Pa. before moving to Ravenna in 1941.
Mrs. Lyons was an assembler at Evenflo Products for 27 years before her retirement. She was formerly employed as a milling machine operator at Gougler Machine during World War II and worked for the Ravenna School District as a cafeteria worker for seven years.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Ravenna, where she was the organist for 20 years. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, making quilts and playing the piano, organ and accordion, delighting residents at Altercare with her organ playing.
Survivors include a sister, Nellie Heffley, of Ravenna; and seven nieces and nephews. Her husband, Clarence, died in 1972. Four brothers, Carl, Walter, Charles and Clyde, and two sisters, Pearle Hall and Elizabeth Drew, also all died previously.
Calling hours will be held one hour prior to funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of God in Ravenna with the Rev. Phillip Miller officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements are being handled by the Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Former Atwater resident Myrtle Stephenson, 97, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at the Roselawn Geriatric Care Center in Alliance.
Born Feb. 22, 1903, in Livingston, Tenn., she was the daughter of Leonard and Mattie Catherine (Ward) Aldridge. She lived in Atwater for 51 years.
Mrs. Stephenson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atwater.
Survivors include daughters, Helen L. Anderson of Alliance and Phyllis (Howard) Hilker of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Her husband Clifford died previously. Her sons, Clifford Jr. Stephenson and Glen Stephenson and daughter, Elsie Kraus also died previously.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Atwater Chapel, with the Rev. Timothy Black officiating. Burial will be at Atwater Cemetery.
Elmer Oldham, 76
NELSON - Elmer H. Oldham, 76, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long battle with heart disease.
Born Sept. 16, 1923, in Portage, Pa., he was the son of David and Pearl (McVicker) Oldham. Formerly of Windham, he had been a resident of the Nelson area since 1980.
Mr. Oldham retired in 1984 as a crane operator after 30 years at Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Garrettsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5067 and the American Legion Post No. 32 in Garrettsville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garrettsville and was active in many Garrettsville organizations. He enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Corinne "Corky" (Comyns-Kotkowski) Oldham, whom he married Nov. 14, 1980; sons, Kenneth E. (Deborah) Oldham of Ravenna and Robert E. Kotkowski of Nelson Township; daughters, Marjorie L. (Roger) Nottingham, Karen M. (Thomas) Hedge and Marlene (Brad) Edder, all of Ravenna and Susan M. (Kip) Minnick of Braceville; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Glenn of Johnstown, Pa., and Paul of Oklahoma; and sister, Freda Eppley of Summerhill, Pa. His first wife, Elinore, died in 1980. Two brothers also died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Garrettsville, 7656 S.R. 82 with the Rev. David Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Windham Township Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Garrettsville V.F.W.

Frank J. Sasey, 65, of 5062 Wayland Road, Diamond, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Akron General Hospital after an eight-month illness.
Born Sept. 24, 1934, in Braceville, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Baraty) Sasey.
Mr. Sasey was a maintenance supervisor with U.S. Concrete in Niles.
He graduated from Braceville High School and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Louada (Sturgis), whom he married Oct. 21, 1995; sons, Raymond of Akron and Thomas of Virginia; stepson, Christopher Ellis of McDonald; stepdaughter, Debra Lawyer of Mineral Ridge; six grandchildren; and brother, Albert of Florida. His brother, William; and sister, Mildred, died previously.

Elizabeth H. Farres, 83, of 8126 Newton Falls Road, Ravenna, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
Born Dec. 16, 1916 in Homestead, Fla., she was the daughter of William D. and Ida (Campbell) Horne. She had lived in Ravenna since 1995.
Mrs. Farres was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling and sewing.
Survivors include her sons, Albert G. Jr. of Bellingham, Wash., and Bill F. of Ravenna; daughter, Virginia Haffner of Virginia; and one grandchild. Her husband, Albert, whom she married in 1941, died in 1972. Her parents; brothers, Dexter and Russell Horne, and sister, Loretta Lawrence, died previously.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Homestead Cemetery in Homestead, Fla.. Arrangements were handled by Borowski Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Newton Falls.

Forrest W. Cross, 63
STREETSBORO - Forrest W. Cross, 63, of Streetsboro died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born March 5, 1937, in Aurora, he was the son of George Cross and Edith Stein. He had lived in Warrensville Heights before moving to Streetsboro in 1968.
Mr. Cross was an induction heat treater with Champion Commercial in Cleveland until he retired in 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia M. (nee Torok) Cross, whom he married Sept. 9, 1961; daughters, Karen (Edward) Raines of North Olmsted and Sharon Cross of Streetsboro; brother, Wendell Cross of Connecticut; and sister, Mary Iona Nichols of Macedonia. His brothers, Butch, Delano, Gene, George, Kenny, and Donnivan and sisters, Irene Johnson, Virginia Raus, and Eva Richards, died previously.

Lena M. Sollberger, 99, of Canton died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Copley Health Center.
Born March 14, 1901, in Bridgen Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of James A. Dawson and Sarah E. Murphy. She lived in Ravenna for 60 years before moving to Bradenton, Fla. She moved to Canton in 1994.
Mrs. Sollberger was a clerk with the Portage County Treasurer's and Recorder's offices.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church for 50 years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Starr.
She was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn G. Ragan of Southern Ring, N.C., and Carole A. Papiska of Copley; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her husband, James, died Dec. 19, 1981, and three brothers and three sisters died previously.

Eldora "Big Teddy" Seeden, 89, of Ravenna died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna.
Born Feb. 25, 1911 in Grenada, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Easter
Mrs. Seeden was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she had served on the Pastor's Aid and was a member of the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Skeels Community Center.
Survivors include stepsons Frank Seeden of Ravenna and Theodore Seeden of Toledo; daughters-in-law Fannie Seeden and Rutha Kelley, both of Ravenna; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert Kelley of Wisconsin, Drew Kelley of Illinois, Recey Kelley of Ravenna and Alex Kelly Jr. of Kent; sisters, Mandy Buchannon of Minnesota, Augusta Murphy of Illinois, Juanita Smith of Texas, Elizabeth Tuck of Akron and Josephine Kelley of Akron. Her husband, T.L. Seeden, died previously, as did son Alexander Kelley, grandson James G. Kelley, granddaughter Aletha Kelley, stepmother Helen Kelley, brother Alvin Kelley and sisters, Mary Kelley and Alberta Garret.

Arthur Cavallo, 71
Arthur W. Cavallo, 71, of North Benton, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Community Care Center in Alliance after a long illness.
Born April 30, 1929, in Torino, Italy, he was the son of John and Medina (Ortalda) Cavallo.
Mr. Cavallo retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Walton Hills after 35 years of service.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member and past commander of the Deerfield American Legion No. 713, past commander for the District American Legion, member and past president of the Deerfield Ruritan Club, member and past president of the Deerfield Civic Association, member and past treasurer of Leisure Lads and Lassies Club and chairman of Monday Night Bingo in Deerfield.
He and his wife were crowned King Arthur and Queen Catherine at the Portage County Fair in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Geiger), whom he married Sept. 8, 1972; sons, Charles and David, of Bridgeport, West Va., and Gregory, of Munroe Falls; stepsons, Timothy, of Colorado, and Gregory, John and Steven, all of Florida; stepdaughters, Shellie and Jessie Uncapher, both of Akron; 28 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ines Sandy, of Bridgeport. A daughter, Patricia Washington, died previously.
