Jessie A. Mancino, 80
Jessie A. Mancino, 80, of Redlands, Calif. and formerly of Ravenna, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Redlands Community Hospital of heart problems. She lived on Peck Road in Ravenna Township for 37 years before moving to California 21 years ago. She was born in Little Washington, Pa. Mrs. Mancino was a housekeeper for 60 years before retiring. She was a member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God. Survivors include her sons, Frank of Sedro Woolley, Wash. and Bill of Neusenstamm, Germany; daughter, Jo Phillips of Riverside, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray King of Tampa, Fla., Dick King of Canton, and Howard King of Minneapolis, Minn.; sisters, Freda Carden of Kent; Aldene Yates of Niles, Vera Summers of Ravenna, Ariene Youghler of Florida, and Ruby Knight of Winson-Salem, N.C. Her husband, Jim Mancino, died in June 1980. A daughter, Marien M. Vicha and two brothers died previously. Services were held Friday at Green Acres Chapel in Bloomington, Calif. Burial was in Green Acres Memorial Park.

John Robert Jordan, 79
John Robert Jordan, 79, of Ravenna, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Akron General Medical Center. Born Feb. 25, 1921 in Clarksburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert K. and Lillian Mae (Harris) Jordan. He lived in Ravenna since 1960. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In 1986, Mr. Jordan retired from Roadway Express where he had been a truck driver. He was a member of the Ravenna Eagles, the Ravenna V.F.W. and the Titusville, Fla., V.F.W. Survivors include sons, John Theodore Boston of Wayland, James Jeffery Boston and Jeremy Kevin Boston, both of Paris; daughters, Linda L. Chesnik of Seven Hills, Deborah A. Pettitt of Charlestown; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; half-brother Ralph Hall of Columbus, Ga.; and sisters, Beryl Jones of California and Evelyn Rousch. A daughter, April Christine Jordan; sisters, Juanita Miller and Dora Winland; brother, Charles Jordan and half-brother, Franklin Hall died previously. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Lenora "Midge" Ingraham, 75
WINDHAM - Lenora "Midge" Ingraham, 75, died Feb. 3, 2001, at the Maple Wood Care Centre after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 8, 1925 in Boliver, Pa., she was the daughter of Edward and Catherine (McElwee) Beckner. She was a 50-year resident of Windham, and a homemaker. Mrs. Ingraham was a Sunday School teacher and choir member at Church of Christ Congregational in Windham. She also was active in the Helping Hand Society and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Windham. She was an avid bowler, but most enjoyed time with family and her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, William Ingraham, whom she married Aug. 21, 1942; son, William Jr. of Brimfield; daughter, Noralee Ingraham of Stow; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Beckner of Southington, George Beckner of Newton Falls; sisters, Olive Beckner of Newton Falls and Shirley Dolan of Ravenna. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be at Windham Township Cemetery.

The Rev. Everett S. Lovejoy, 79
The Rev. Everett S. Lovejoy, 79, of Manchester died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at his home. Born July 7, 1921, in Lowery, W. Va., he was the son of the late McKinley and Pearl (Dolin) Lovejoy. He lived in Ravenna before moving to Manchester six years ago. Rev. Lovejoy had been a minister and pastor in various area Apostolic churches. He played several musical instruments and wrote more than 1,000 Gospel songs. He made two records and had several radio broadcasts. He had been a foreman at the A.C. Williams Steel Foundry in Ravenna. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Marie (Jones) Lovejoy; sons, Steven Allen, Roger Paul, and Daniel Lee, all of Manchester, David Ray of Youngstown and Everett "Tim" of Ravenna; daughter, Beverly Kay Brunton of Ravenna, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth of Paris, Johnny of Diamond, Brownie of Ravenna and sister, Mary "Sis" Stanley of Ravenna. His brothers, Rexford, Franklin, Harry and William, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with Rev. Clyde Kline officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.

Gladys Mae Perkowski, 74
Gladys Mae Perkowski, 74, of Caranor Drive, Kent, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born November, 3, 1926, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of Harry and Marcelle (McCarthy) Williams. Mrs. Perkowski was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the Infant of Prague Guild, an Eucharistic Minister and Lectern at St. Patrick's, the Kent Coatery, Kent Daughters of the American Revolution, Church Women United of Kent and the Millie Stough Golf League. Survivors include her husband, Carl, to whom she was married to for 54 years; sons, Peter (Lana) of Kent and Michael of Memphis, Tenn.; daughters, Carla (Hal) Brumby of Kent, Mikelann Perkowski of Carlsbad, Calif., Mary Perkowski of Chicago, Ill. and Julie (Jon) McGraw of Cleveland; seven grandchildren; brothers, David Williams, William Williams, Donald Williams, Walter Williams, and John Williams, sisters, Hope Petrella, Mary Trivelli, Margaret Meagher, Laura Dunlop and Janet Frobese. John J. Montoni, 95, of Boydell Road, Kent, died Friday, February 9, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born October 11, 1905 in Kent, he was the son of Marion and Lena (DeBarnardi) Montoni. Mr. Hale owned and operated Montoni's Pizza, Kent's Original Pizza Shop. He was a member of St. Patrick Church of Ken, Knights of Columbus - Council 1411, Christopher Columbus Society, Ravenna Moose Lodge, and the Kent VFW. Survivors include his daughters, Dolores (James) Orcutt of Kent and Claudia (George) Pittinger of Kent; eleven grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one great great grandson; brothers, William Montoni of Kent and Joseph Montoni of Kent; sisters, Rose Montemaggiore of Kent, Helen Swiderski of Kent, Armenia Glod of Kent, Edith Miller of Kent and Theresa Goodhart of Kent; and Ruth McGowan of Kent. His wife, Vincentine (Giovangnoli) died in 1980. Brothers Frank and Lawrence and sisters, Lena Ubri, Mary Sullivan, Irene Giovangnoli, Anna Montoni and Thelma Smith also died previously. Albert E. Hale
MOGADORE - Albert E. Hale, 78, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001. Born June 24, 1922, in Mogadore, he was the son of Warren and Annette (Wilcox) Hale. He was a life resident of the Mogadore/Suffield area. Mr. Hale was a carpenter for 16 years before working as a rural mail carrier for 23 years in the Suffield area. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. He was a direct descendant of the founders of the Mogadore Christian Church and an active member, serving as elder, trustee, deacon, chairman of the board, a Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a long-time member of the Mogadore Historical Society and he a member of the American Legion Post 452. He enjoyed woodworking and taught woodworking classes in local grade schools. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy (Palmer); sons, Gregory (Sandy), Loren (Peggy), and David (Mary); son-in-law Bruce Kaschner; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Evangeline Essig. A son, Thomas P.; a daughter, Mary K. Kaschner and a sister, Kathleen. died previously. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hopkins Lawver Mogadore Funeral Home. Mellisa C. Allen
Mellisa C. Allen, 17, formerly of Palmyra, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Jan. 15, 2000. Born Aug. 14, 1983, she was the daughter of Veronica and Garth D. Allen. Miss Allen was a student at Southeast High School, where she played the flute and acted in school productions. Survivors include her mother, Veronica Makkonen of Gloucester, Mass.; father Garth (Veleene) Allen of Palmyra; brother Zachary Mason of Palmyra; sisters April of Gloucester, Kayla of Palmyra and Annalise Milton of Palmyra. Memorial services were held last week at West Gloucester Congregational Church in Massachusetts.

Freida Fleshman
Freida Fleshman, 81, of Ravenna Township, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Sept. 26, 1919, in Akron, she was the daughter of Mathias and Susanna (Thoricht) Just. Formerly of Aurora, she had been a Ravenna resident for the past 60 years. Mrs. Fleshman had been a clerk with Even-Flo in Ravenna prior to her retirement. Survivors include her sons, Raymond Jr. of Streetsboro, Richard of Florida, Robert and Ronald, both of Ravenna; a daughter, Bonnie L. Trent of Ravenna; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry Just of Brimfield and Richard Just of Rootstown; sisters, Erma Bender of Rootstown and Rose Whitney of Florida. Her husband, Raymond, Sr.; a grandson, Robbie and a sister, Elsie Young, died previously. Calling hours will be held be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel where services will take place at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Holm officiating. Private burial will take place.

David C. May
MANTUA - David C. May, 49, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a period of failing health. Born July 16, 1915, in Bedford, he was the son of Charles and Pauline (Spaeth) May. He was a lifelong resident of the Mantua area. Mr. May was a truck driver with the Portage County Sanitation Department for 20 years. He was a 1969 graduate of Crestwood High School and a member of Parents Without Partners, Chapter 600. He enjoyed going to flea markets with his grandchildren. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah "Debbie" May of Mantua; three grandchildren; father, Charles May of Florida; mother, Pauline May of Mantua; and brother, Michael of Marlboro. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Monday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where funeral services will follow at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be private.

Victoria E. Fredmonsky
Victoria E. Fredmonsky, 95, of Cleveland, mother-in-law of Streetsboro Councilwoman Barbara Fredmonsky, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at the Mount Royal Villa Nursing Home in North Royalton. Born Aug. 28, 1905, she was the daughter of Joseph and Celia (Novotney) Piller. Mrs. Fredmonsky was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church in Parma. Survivors include her sons, Joseph (Elaine) of Parma Heights and James (Barbara) of Streetsboro; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Celia Ciannilli. Alice L. Slabaugh Wigley, 61, of Leavittsburg died Thursday Feb. 8, 2001, in Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren after a lengthy illness. Born June 21, 1939, in Mt. Storm, W. Va., she was the daughter of Arnold and Ollie (Berg) Rohrbaugh. She was a 50-year resident of Leavittsburg. Mrs. Wigley was a homemaker. She was a member of the Leavittsburg Church of God. She enjoyed fishing and gardening. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Wigley of Leavittsburg; sons, Michael (Sandy) Slabaugh of Southington, Randall (Janet) Slabaugh of Garrettsville and Ricky (Sharon) Slabaugh of Liberty Ohio; daughter, Deborah DeWitt of Accident, Md.; stepsons, Terry and Hal Wigley; stepdaughter, Jillean Wigley; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Forrest Rohrbaugh of Hutton, Md.; and sisters, Evadot Davis of Hendricks, W.Va., Maxine Gank of Oakland, Md., and Amogene Metheny of Ravenna. John H. Adams
John H. Adams, 61, of Braceville, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, of cancer. Born May 21, 1939 in Wyandotte, Mich., he was the son of John Adams and Frances Lynn. Mr. Adams worked for CJ Rogers Transportation as a truck driver for 30 years and also drove school buses for LaBrac, Lordstown, Tampeel and special busing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. he was a member of St. Pius. He enjoyed working on old cars. Survivors include his wife, Marguerite "Darleen" (Glianyi), whom he married May 31, 1965; of Braceville; son, John P. of Chagrin Falls; daughter, Amy Lynn (Eric) Vasbinder of Warren; three grandchildren; and sisters, Marian Westinghause of Wyandotte, Mich., Margie Layne of Trenton, Mich. Lillian (Jack) Sweetenhan of Trenton, Mich. and Rosemary (Arthur) Sullivan of Southgate, Mich. His sister, Mona Hearlston, died previously. Cremation has taken place. Elizabeth F. (Libby) Jura
Elizabeth F. (Libby) Jura, 83, of 433 Warren Road, Newton Falls died Friday, Feb. 9. 2001, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls of congestive heart failure. She had been ill for a long time. Born Jan. 2, 1918, in Coatesville, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Sophie (Hanczar) Pastilong. Formerly of Pennsylvania, she lived in the Newton Falls area since 1943. Mrs. Jura was a bar maid for many years, working for Circle Bar & VFW Post 3332, both of Newton Falls. Prior to becoming a bar maid, she was employed at the Ravenna Arsenal and did catering for various organizations and serviced vending machines for automatic vendors. Mrs. Jura was a long-time member of St. Mary's Church in Newton Falls and was charter member of Madonna Club and past president of Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of the cemetery association of the church, treasurer for Polish Women's Alliance, and belonged to the Women's Relief Corps; past president of American Legion Auxiliary 236, and served as treasurer of American Legion Auxiliary Co. for two years. She volunteered for Trumbull County Meals on Wheels Program and was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 3332. She was a past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary District 8 where she was secretary, conductress, and V.I.P. women of the year. She was the secretary for Senior Citizen Group 4051, past president of Blue Star Mothers Chapter 75, a Gold Star Mother and she served one year as Department of Ohio Blue Star Mothers where she was also treasurer and financial secretary. In 1997 she was elected as the Department of Ohio President of the Blue Star Mothers. She also belonged to the Democratic Club and the Relief Corps. She placed a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier along with President Clinton. She was a graduated St. James Parochial School and she attended Kent State University. Survivors include sons: Joseph C. of Santa Anna, Calif., Robert J. of Sanibel Island, Fla., William A. (Andy) of Montaque, Calif., Donald E. of Newton Falls, 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Joseph Jura, whom she married Feb. 20, 1936, died in April, 1963. A son, Frederick, died in 1978 and seven brothers and four sisters died previously. Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Borowski Funeral Home in Newton Falls where the Blue Star Mothers will hold a service at 4:30 p.m. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. David Merzweiler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls.

Anna M. West
HIRAM - Anna M. West, 94, died Saturday Feb. 10, 2001, at Altercare Nursing Home in Ravenna after a brief illness. Born Nov. 15, 1906, in Wimber, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph and Suzanna (Hudak) Hydock. She was a homemaker. She also had worked at Davis Laundry and Cleaning. Survivors include her son, Harold Jack (Janet) of Hiram; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Hydock of New Kensington, Pa., and Steve Hydock of Charleston, W.Va.; sister, Verna Hansen of Los Angeles, Calif. Her husband, Harold W., died Oct. 2, 1990. Her brothers, Andrew, Jack and Joseph; and sisters Marie, Sue, and Helen, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery in Wheeling W.Va.

Harold Woodrow Aliff
GARRETTSVILLE - Harold Woodrow Aliff, 70, died Saturday Feb. 10, 2001, at the Cleveland Clinic after a brief illness , Born March 30, 1930, in Mayberry, W.Va., he was the son of Arnold Woodrow and Mossie Danford (Nicewander) Aliff. He lived in Garrettsville for 23 years, moving from Bedford Heights. Mr. Aliff worked at Anchor Fasteners in Bedford Heights for 18 years, and for AMAC Enterprises in Cleveland for nine years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Windham American Legion 671, the Garrettsville Eagles, and "The 10 or More" motorcycle club. He played Santa Claus for many area organizations and many functions. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War. He loved the time he spent with family and friends. He was a father to many and a friend to all he met. Survivors include his wife, Lucy (Vinson) whom he married on Nov. 24, 1952; his son Harold Woodrow II of Cleveland; daughters, Denise Adel Watkins of Bainbridge, Beauta Ann DeGenero of Garrettsville, Cynthia Annette Aliff of Garrettsville, Catherine Junette Kester of Garrettsville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Arnold Elwood of Bluefield, W.Va. and James Russell of Bland, Va.; sisters, Jaquita Quesenberry of Hillsville, Va., Charlene Sedor of Tucson, Ariz., Naomi Sproles of Tucson, and Verlinda Nutter of Rising Sun, Md. His sisters, Alva Slagle, and Theda Hodges, died previously. There will be no calling hours. Private military burial services will be held at a later date. RANDOLPH - Carolyn A. Stanford, 56, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at her home following a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 26, 1944, in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Harold C. and Elizabeth (Horak) Huth. Mrs. Stanford was a homemaker. She loved painting and crocheting. Survivors include her husband, Paul; her mother; brothers, Harold G. of Randolph, Fred of Rootstown, Ron (Michele) of Palm Beach, Fla. and Denny (Angela) of Randolph; brother-in-law, Bruce (Shirley) Stanford of Randolph; sisters, Christine (Larry) Schwinn and Karen Huth, both of Randolph. Clifton C. Mims Sr.
Clifton C. Mims Sr., 61, of Ravenna, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born Aug. 13, 1939 in Verbena, Ala., he was a son of Joe H. Courtney and Inez (Clark) Mims. He was a 1958 graduate of Ravenna High School. Mr. Mims was employed by the Ravenna Arsenal as an ammunition handler for 11 years, retiring in 1993 because of ill health. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He centered his life around his children and grandchildren. Surviviors include his wife Carol, to whom he was married 37 years; son, Clifton Jr., of Ravenna; daughters, Adrian, Carolyn (Curtis) Nelson and Elizabeth (Cid) Primm, all of Akron; eight grandchildren; mother, Inez; brothers, Amos (Kathy), and John, both of Ravenna, and Ernest (Darlene) of Fairlawn; sister, Arris Mims of Alabama; and mother-in-law, Rosie McCall. Visitation will be held from noon until services at 1 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Ravenna, with the Rev. Isaiah Moss officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 331 Ravenna Ave., Ravenna.
