William E. Seachrist
William E. Seachrist, 70, who was president of Kent Industries from 1966 to 1982, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home in Lancaster, Pa., after a four-month battle with brain cancer. Born Jan. 31, 1931, he was reared in Millersville, Pa., and had lived in the Twin Lakes area for 35 years before moving to Lancaster in 1996. Mr. Seachristhad served as board chairman of AdvenTek Corp. since 1988. He was president of the company from 1982 until 1988. He also was a former chairman and chief executive officer of Prodex Inc. Prior to becoming president of the Portage Plastics division of Kent Industries and Kent Molded Plastics Inc., he was vice president and general manager of Cleveland Powder Metal Co. from 1961 to 1966. He also was city manager of Ridgeway, Pa. from 1958 to 1961. A 1952 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., he served on the Franklin & Marshall board of trustees from 1972 to 1998, retiring following four years as board president. He recently established the William E. and Marjorie Seachrist Endowment in Entrepreneurial Studies to provide opportunities for students to learn about entrepreneurship. He also was a 1958 graduate of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1953 to 1957 and attaining the rank of lieutenant. He also served in the Naval Reserve. He was a member of American Academy of Political and Social Sciences, New York Academy of Sciences, Society for Plastic Engineers, International City Managers Association, Hamilton Club, Phi Sigma Kappa, Mu Upsilon Sigma, Free and Accepted Masons and St. John's Episcopal Church. While living in Kent, he was a member and director of the Kent Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Kent-Twin Lakes United Fund Drive and a member of the Kent Rotary Club and Christ Episcopal Church of Kent. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie L. (Raab), whom he married in 1953 and to whom condolences may be sent at 405 Winding Way, Lancaster, Pa.; sons, Frederick E. (Lori) of Cuyahoga Falls, David W. (Martha) of Nashville, Tenn. and Eric R. (Darcie) of Stow; daughters, Sibyl (Dale) Freeman and Marjorie S. (Alan) Walsh, both of Lancaster, Pa.; and six grandchildren. His brother, Jay Robert, died previously. No local services are scheduled. Fred F. Groff, Inc. Funeral Services of Lancaster, Pa. is handling arrangements.

William R. Harvey
Former Kent resident William R. Harvey, 74, of Hinckley, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001. Born March 25, 1926, in Kent, he was the son of Carl and Viola Harvey. Mr. Harvey was a mechanical engineer for Lamson & Sessions and Pride Machine Products and Milbar Corp. He also was a member of the Hinckley Zoning Board for many years and a Hinckley Township trustee from 1976 to 1981. He helped establish the Hinckley Police Department and was active in Little League and Boy Scouts. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed reading, working on home construction projects, trout fishing and studying World War II history and family genealogy. He also holds patents for a nailing machine and a tape recorder. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, to whom he was married 51 years; son, Robert C. (Debbie) of Annandale, N.J.; daughter, Lynn of Mantua; two grandchildren; and sister, JoAnne (James) Anderson of Wisconsin. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.

Arthur "Chip" Hunsicker
Arthur "Chip" Hunsicker, 53, of 3375 Mahoning Road, Lake Milton, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at his home. Born Aug. 2, 1947 in Ravenna, he was the son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Andrajka) Hunsicker. A 1965 graduate of Southeast High School, he had been a resident of Lake Milton for 30 years. Mr. Hunsicker was a truck repairman at the General Motors Metal Fabricating Plant in Lordstown since 1970. He was a charter member of Annual Local 1714 where he was a former recording secretary and was also a member of Trustee Local 1714. He was active in the Classic Car Show and CAP Council of United Auto Workers. He was a former Little League coach for the Palmyra Hot Stove League. A U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1967 to 1970, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 737 in Lake Milton. Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Hart), whom he married Aug. 12, 1967; son, Christopher, at home; daughters, Holly of North Canton and Shannon of Cortland; father, Arthur of Diamond; and sisters, Patricia of Lake Milton and Frances of Diamond. His mother died previously. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Faye I. Moorhead
WINDHAM - Faye I. Moorhead, 66, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna after a long illness. Born Sept. 24, 1934 in St. George, W.Va., she was the daughter of Henry and Flarnie (Kimble) Mick. Mrs. Moorhead was employed in food services for Town & Country Smorgasbord in Canton for 23 years, retiring in 1983. She attended Living Water Fellowship Church at Ridge Ranch. She liked needlepoint and ceramics and collected spoons and music boxes. Survivors include her son, Gary at home; brothers, Albert (Julia) Mick of Whitmore Lake, Mich. and Henry (Karen) Mick of McClellandtown, Pa.; sisters, Phyllis (Wayne) Hall of Garrettsville, Laura (James) Ellis of McClellandtown, Pa., Ruth Tressa of Schiller Park, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Roberta (Gary) Rainsburg of Massillon. Her husband, Charles, whom she married July 24, 1964, died Aug. 30, 1995. Her sisters, Joan Lantz and Arvonda Palko, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Kurt Rieger officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.

Edna K. Thomas
Edna K. Thomas, 96, of Ravenna Township, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls. Born Oct. 8, 1904 in Ravenna, she was the daughter of Otto and Rose Kaupinen. Mrs. Thomas was a teacher in the Southeast School District in 1975 until she retired in 1975. Survivors include her son, Howard of Newton Falls; daughters, Jean Manlove of Chagrin Falls and Phyllis Schenkkan of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Alma Raber of Barberton. There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services were held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements were handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel. Martha Mary Baker
BRIMFIELD - Martha Mary Baker, 80, of Neville Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Kent Healthcare Center. Born Feb. 25, 1921, in Crafton, Pa., she was the daughter of William and Lillian (Miller) Donnelly. An accomplished artist, she enjoyed singing with "Tony's Angels" in Kent. Survivors include her husband, Cloyd, to whom she was married 57 years; and cousins, Cleon Willard and Erma Switzer, both of Brimfield. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Memorials may be made to the Portage County Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice, 234 S. Scott Anthony Olson
MANTUA - Scott Anthony Olson, 27, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at his home following an 18-month illness due to cancer. Born April 26, 1973, in Garfield Heights, he was the son of Anthony and Carol (Bundy) Olson. A Mantua resident since 1998, he previously was a lifelong Streetsboro resident. He was a 1991 graduate of Streetsboro High School. Mr. Olson had been employed at Chrysler Mopar in Streetsboro in parts distribution since 1999. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family. Survivors include his wife, Tiffany (Schultz), whom he married Sept. 7, 1996; son, Tyler at home; parents, Anthony and Carol of Streetsboro; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gralewski of Eastlake; twinsisters, Janett Bolyard of Streetsboro and Janice of Twinsburg, sisters, Kim Savel of Bainbridge and Toni (Keith) Sangston of Cuyahoga Falls; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Brent and Cathi Schultz of Streetsboro. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Green's Funeral Home in Mantua, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Samuel Goebel officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.

Kenneth A. "Mac" McGregor
Kenneth A. "Mac" McGregor, 75, of Kent died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at home. Born Sept. 4, 1925, in Fleming, Ohio, he was the son of Andrew Noble and Lulu E. (Lane) McGregor. He lived in Vincent, Ohio, before moving to Kent 50 years ago. Mr. McGregor was an expediter with Park Ohio of Kent until he retired. He was employed more recently with Acme in Stow, where he worked in the jewelry department. He was U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine (Brady); son, Kenneth A. Jr. of Kent; brothers, Miles of Vincent, and Keith of Rinard Mills, Ohio; and sisters, June Porter of North Canton, Helen Lynch of Barlow, Ohio, Emma Lou Welch of Columbus, and Virginia Combs and Doris Reed, both of Marietta. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place. Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Kent Chapel is handling arrangements.

Georgetta M. Cobun
Georgetta M. Cobun, 81, of Silver Oaks Place, Kent, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born June 30, 1919, in Elkins, W.Va., she was the daughter of Harry and Ethel (McCroby) Jackson. Mrs. Cobun was a stock clerk for the West Virginia University Chemistry Department for 20 years. She was a member of Morgantown United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, Herbert (Dee) of Kent; daughter, Judith Cobun Crain of Glendale, W.Va.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Jean (C.J.) Estep of Stow. Her husband, Herbert; daughter, Carol Harper; brother, Harry Jackson Jr.; and sisters, Isabel Lerch, Elaine Alspaugh, Margaret Nine, Maxine Patterson and Virgina Hill, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent, where services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. John McIntyre officiating. Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday at Beverly Hill Memorial Gardens in Morgantown, W.Va.

Maxine D. Carrothers
AURORA - Maxine D. Carrothers, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001. She was born Jan. 3, 1929. Survivors include her husband, John D.; sons, Larry (Elsa) Ager of Streetsboro and Timothy (Georgette) Ager of Northfield; daughters, Debbie (Joel) Hladky of Oakwood, Cathy (Ron) Wojtkiewicz of Garfield Heights and Becky (Les) Pettit of Bedford; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Doreen) Kohler of Orangeburg, S.C. and Robert (Donna) Kohler of Midvale, Ohio; and sister, Albertha Rufus of Carrolton, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crown Hill Memorial Park Chapel, 8592 Darrow Road, Twinsburg.

Roy A. Richardson
HIRAM - Roy A. Richardson, 86, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Southeast Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, following a long illness. Born Jan. 28, 1915, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of Levi and Minnie (Young) Richardson. Formerly of Cleveland, he had been a Hiram area resident since 1986. Mr. Richardson retired from the Cleveland Fabricating Company, where he was an assembly worker. He also was a retired clergyman, having preached at churches in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania for many years. He was a member of The House of Prayer Church in Garrettsville. Survivors include his sons, Buddy (Barbara) of Cambridge, Okey (Angie) and David (Juanita), both of West Virginia, and Larry (Carol) of Pennsylvania; daughters, Doris (Bill) Burdette of Nevada and Dora (Jesse) Ward of Hiram; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. His wife, Hester, died in 1998. His daughter, Wanda, and son, Hanford, died previously. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until services at noon Thursday at The House of Prayer Church, 9874 Silica Sand Road in Garrettsville. The Rev. Ray Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hiram. Arrangements are being made by Green's Funeral Home in Mantua.

Gene Borckardt
Gene Borckardt, 70, of Medina, a former Garrettsville resident, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his home after a long illness. Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Lakewood, he was the son of Carl and Winfred (Bowser) Borckardt. Mr. Borckardt was a graphic artist. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his daughters, Connie A. and Karen Y., both of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, the Rev. Peggy Borckardt; and Jerry Wyrich, his friend and companion. His wife, Frances, whom he married Oct. 28, 1950, died July 10, 1993. Visitation will be held from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home in Garrettsville, followed by graveside services at 3 p.m. at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville, with the Rev. Vern L. Bok officiating.

Jill L. Dove
Jill L. Dove, 41, of Ravenna, died of natural causes Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Born Jan. 6, 1960 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Russell and Virginia (Thomas) Boose. A former Kent resident, she had lived in Ravenna for 12 years. Mrs. Dove was a floral cashier at the Ravenna Giant Eagle. She was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 880. She was involved with the Ravenna Hot Stove Baseball League. She enjoyed spending time with her children and making crafts. Survivors include her husband, Mark, to whom she was married 16 years; son, Matthew and daughter, Molly, both at home; mother, Virginia Boose of Twinsburg; brothers, Russell (Gerry) Boose of Akron, Rolland (Debbie) Boose of Aurora and Rodger (Sherry) Boose of Mt. Eden, Ky.; and sister, Barbara (Tom) Vaji of Kent. A son, Timothy, died previously. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Robert L. Jordan
Robert L. Jordan, 70, of Alliance, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown after a long illness. Mr. Jordan was a retired school teacher and basketball coach in the Marlington and East Canton areas. He was the assistant coach of the East Canton High School girls basketball team and the softball and volleyball coach at Mount Union College in Alliance, where he also taught golf. He was a member and former elder of Minerva First Presbyterian Church. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post No. 166 of Alliance. Survivors include his wife, Ardella (Brown), whom he married Aug. 8, 1954; sons, R. Jerry of Louisville, Richard (Nancy) of Burlington, Vt., and Daniel (Heather) of Trenton, Ohio; daughter, Joy L. Yacklin of Minerva; six grandchildren; brothers, William (Carolyn) of Minerva and James of Louisville; and sisters, Norma (Donald) Moser of Louisville and Sandy (David) Sutton of Minerva. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home, 206 E. Lincolway, Minerva and from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Minerva First Presbyterian Church. Burial with full military honors will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in North Canton. David Lynn Smith
Former Ravenna resident David Lynn Smith, 69, of California, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at his home. Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Wayland, he was the son of Boyd and Mina Smith. He had lived in Ravenna prior to moving to California in 1952. Mr. Smith was a plumber for 33 years before his retirement. He was a member of the San Fernando Valley Model T Club and Canoga Park Elks. He had been a Mason since 1964. He enjoyed outdoors, fishing, camping and antique cars. Survivors include his wife, Violet, to whom he was married 49 years; son, B.G.; one grandchild; brother, Joseph of Charlestown; and sister, Beryl Jean of Pico Rivera, Calif. His son, Donald, and three sisters died previously. There will be no local services. Arrangements were made by Forest Lawn Mortuary in Hollywood Hills, Calif. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.

Jim Fetters
Jim Fetters, 50, who became a familiar figure for many Portage area residents when he was a staff photographer for the Record-Courier in the 1970s, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at his home in Annapolis, Md., where he had suffered a blood clot in the lung. Mr. Fetters was an editor for Agence France-Presse, an international photo service based in Washington, D.C. Born July 4, 1950 in Toledo, he began taking photographs when he was a student at Kent State University and joined the Record-Courier staff in 1970 when he was 19 years old. Among his first assignments was coverage of the events of May 4, 1970 at KSU. He earned a reputation as a talented, hard-working professional who was adept at covering spot news assignments but also excelled at feature photography. His friendly, outgoing manner - marked by a dry wit and an engaging conversational style - made him a favorite of many he encountered on his professional rounds throughout the Portage area. After leaving the Record-Courier in 1979, he worked for United Press International in Cleveland and the Pittsburgh Press, then moved to the UPI photo desk in Washington in 1985. He joined Agence France-Presse in 1990. In addition to photography, he was a voracious reader, baseball fan, avid sailor, collector of antique memorabilia and a cat lover. Survivors include one brother, one sister and a stepmother. Arrangements for a memorial service are pending.

Hazel L. Weaver
Hazel L. Weaver, 88, of Brady Lake Road, Ravenna, died Wed., Feb. 21, 2001 at the Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville. Born Dec. 6, 1912 in Kent, she was the daughter of Eli Fay and Mabel (Diezman) Jones. She was a member of the Portage County Historical Society, Christ Episcopal Church in Kent, Kent Grange and Dames of Malta. Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline Woodring of Ravenna; two grandchuldren; and one great-grandchild. Her husband, Dudley, died in 1984. Her sister, Ethel Mayer, died previously. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church in Kent, with the Rev. David Mathus officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Undercroft of the church. Private burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna. Arrangements are being handled by Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Memorials may be made to the Portage County Nursing Home, 7988 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, 44266 or Christ Episcopal Church, 118 S. Dorothy E. Holland
Dorothy E. Holland, 78, of Ravenna, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at the Longmeadow Care Center in Ravenna. Born Jan. 8, 1923, in Windham Township, she was the daughter of Arthur and Georgia (Fisher Dole) Waite. She was a life resident of Portage County. Mrs. Holland was a spindle operator at the Cleveland Worsted Mills in Ravenna, and also worked at Clark's Pharmacy and Fowler's Drug Store. She was a member of Women of the Moose. Survivors include her sons, Royce (Linda) of Ravenna and Ted (Louise) of Brady Lake; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Martha (George) Leet Barker of Freedom. Her brothers, Ralph, Robert and Charles, died previously. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Bilsza officiating. Burial will be in Windham Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse Service, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio 44333.

Robert F. Harris Sr.
WINDHAM - Robert F. Harris Sr., 66, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Portage County Nursing Home in Shalersville. Born Feb. 5, 1935, in Binghamton, N.Y., he was the son of Clarence and Margaret (Barry) Harris. He had lived in Windham since 1972. Mr. Harris was a table operator with Filmco in Aurora. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 187th Airborne. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ravenna. Survivors include his wife, Martha (Stephens), to whom he was married 42 years; sons, Robert Jr. of Death Valley, Calif., Kenneth of Las Vegas, Nev., and Thomas of Newton Falls; daughters, Rocky Harris of Windham and Jeanette Trimmer of Aurora; 10 grandchildren; brothers, C.W. of Florida, Kenneth of Brimfield, and Fredrick and John, both of Binghamton, N.Y.; and sisters, Florence Bishop of Binghamton and Mary Jane Donneley of Chicago. His son, Steven, died in 1994. Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Rev. Carol Evans will offficiate. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

Barton J. Hyer
Barton J. Hyer, 51, of Ravenna Township ,died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at home. Born Sept. 5, 1949 in Cleveland, he was the son of Frank and Helen (Guminey) Hyer. A life resident of Ravenna, he was a 1967 graduate of Ravenna High School. Mr. Hyer was a machinist with RB&W in Kent. He was a member of New Milford Baptist Church in Rootstown. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his mother, Helen Taylor of Rootstown; brother, Ray (Pam) Hyer of Akron; and sisters, Barbara (James) Thompson of Rootstown, Ann (Chet) Leavengood of Ravenna, Donna (Lou) Wojcinski of Akron and Cathy (Wayne) Schomer of Cortland. His father died in 1987. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at New Milford Baptist Church in Rootstown, with the Rev. Rick Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Rootstown. Arrangements are being handled by Shorts Funeral Home in Ravenna. Memorials may be made to the church.
