Putnam County is a county located in the state of Ohio, United States. 
As of 2000, the population was 34,726. The name is in honor of Israel 
Putnam, who was a hero in the French and Indian War and a general in 
the American Revolutionary War. Its county seat is Ottawa.

The county is near the cities and counties of Toledo, Lucas County, 
Chicago, Cook County, Detroit, Wayne County, and Cleveland, Cuyahoga 
County.
