Lawrence R. (Larry) Nace
Lawrence R. (Larry) Nace, 71, passed away June 8, 1998.
He was born in Akron and lived all of his life in the area. He was affiliated with the Copley Baptist Temple, and retired in 1983 from Roadway Express after 20 years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Coventry 665 F&AM, Scottish Rite, and Aroba Lodge Valley of Akron Consistory 32nd Degree.
Preceded in death by parents, Charles and Edna Nace; and brothers, Gordon and John, he is survived by wife, Joanne; daughters, Jackie Derrick of Norton, Judy (Joe) Danko of Manchester, Robin Ashley of Barberton; grandchildren, Steve and Donna Derrick, Joe Derrick, Adam Danko, Kristy and Nicole Ashley, and David Genet; great-grandson, Nicholas Derrick; ``adopted'' grandsons, Sean and Cole Collins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., with Rev. Dan Hanlon officiating. John Francis Nash
John Francis Nash passed away at Akron City Hospital on Tuesday morning, June 9, 1998, after a long illness.
Mr. Nash was born in Hudson, Mass., on June 7, 1928, a son of the late John M. and Edna Fournier Nash, and moved to the Ohio area in 1953. Mr. Nash graduated from Hudson, Mass., High School and from Boston University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education. He also served in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Nash was superintendent of the Southington Local Schools; principal of Spencer Elementary School in Geneva, Ohio; director of International Placement Service in Cleveland, Ohio; owner of the National Teachers Placement Bureau in Cleveland, Ohio; head chef at Mentor Harbor Yacht Club in Madison, Ohio; and retired in September 1997 from Portage County Private Industrial Council in Ravenna, Ohio.
He is survived by fiancee, Konney Kowatch of Akron; sons, Patrick D. Nash of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii, Timothy J. Nash of Warren; daughter, Alicia Jean Vogelaar of Hopewell Junction, N. Y.; brothers, Patrick E. Nash of Harwick, Mass., James H. Nash of Waunconda, Ill.; sisters, Edna Mae Maddocks of Hudson, Mass., Mary Crowell of Morton, Pa., Dorothy Cormier of Leominster, Mass., and Jane Philbin of Acton, Mass.

A resident of Barrington, Ill., he was employed at Trustmark Insurance Co., and was a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Schaumburg, Ill.

BARBERTON -- Anna K. Onderak, 87, died June 8, 1998, at Barberton Citizens Hospital.
She was born in Cambridge, Ohio, and resided in Barberton for the last 65 years. She was employed with the J. C. Penney Co. with 22 years service, and was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and Secular Franciscan Order.
She was preceded in death by husband, George, and is survived by sons, Dale (Judy) of Munroe Falls, Dennis of Barberton; and four grandchildren.

CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Odell Otto, 85, born Feb. 24, 1913, in Grantsville, Md., passed away June 9, 1998, at the Hospice Center in Fairlawn.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Harriett; son, David and daughter-in-law, Susan, of Chesterland; daughter, Sharon of Cuyahoga Falls; grandson, Douglas Otto; granddaughters, Erica Otto of Columbus, Eileen of Baltimore, Md., Bernice of Boston, Mass., Grace and Betty Jo of Grantsville, Md.; and many relatives and friends.
Odell worked at Rustless Iron and Steel Co. in Baltimore for 10 years. He moved to Cuyahoga Falls in 1950 and was employed at the Heslop Co. and various other construction companies. He retired in 1983. He was a longtime member of Bethany United Church of Christ.

Helen B. Palicka (nee Budzina), 87, of Cuyahoga Falls, was the wife of the late John; devoted mother of John Kogut (wife, Irene) of Macedonia, Ohio, and Helen Obojtek (late husband, Joseph) of Cuyahoga Falls; loving grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of 12, and great-great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Virginia E. ``Skipper'' Paterson
Virginia E. ``Skipper'' Paterson, 84, passed away May 30, 1998.
Mrs. Paterson was born in Cleveland and had lived in Akron most of her life, and in the Portage Lakes since 1944. A member of Lockwood United Methodist Church, she was active in the Western Reserve Girl Scout Council for 52 years and was currently active in Girl Scout ``Z'' Troop. She was an active member of Portage Lakes Chapter of A.A.R.P. and of West High School Class of 1933, known as W.H.A.T.T. She had worked as a home lighting consultant for Ohio Edison and as a medical assistant.
Preceded in death by her husband, Andrew H., in 1980, she is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Robert L.) Althoff; grandsons, Robert R. (Denise) Althoff and Richard L. Althoff, all of Columbus; stepgreat-grandchildren, Cynthia and Kristopher; and brother, Charles Bartles Roberts of Herpster, Wis.

Hobart S. Pauley, 77, passed away June 4, 1998.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Consolidated Freightways and was a retired Teamster. He was an active member of the East Akron Eagles 2301, and a life member of V.F.W. Post 3383 and American Legion Post 449.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Carol Pauley; daughters, Karen (Dennis) Knapp of Norton, Katherine (Bill) Delaney of Akron; son, Bill (Trish) Pauley of Buckeye Lake; and eight grandchildren.

Born in Sumners County, West Virginia, she was a Stow resident for 46 years.

Mildred L. Peterson
Mildred L. Peterson, 89, died June 14, 1998.
She was a life resident of Akron, where her great-great-grandfather was Major Miner Spicer, one of the first settlers of the Akron area in 1810. Mildred was a graduate of Central High School, Baptist Institute for Christian Workers, and Akron University. She was a first grade teacher with the Akron Public Schools at Howe School, and then Mason School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Akron, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for over 50 years, and was also a member of Church Women United, O.R.T.A., S.C.R.T.A., Good Neighbors volunteer, and the Summit County Historical Society.
Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by her husband, Harold and brother, Raymond Spicer. She is survived by several cousins and a niece and nephew.
Service will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Akron, 1670 Shatto Ave., Akron, with Rev. T. Edward Holland and Rev. Randall A. Corkern officiating. Charles E. Pickering Jr.
SHARON TWP. -- Charles E. Pickering Jr., 67, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at Hospice Care Center, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Pickering was born in Chatham Township, and resided in Sharon Township since 1952. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Marines, serving in the Korean Conflict, and a life member of Chatham V.F.W. Post 6892. He was a meat cutter at A & P, retiring in 1980 with 25 years service.
Mr. Pickering is survived by wife, Dorothy (nee Burdett); daughter, Beth (Mrs. Jerry) Stover of Sharon Township; grandsons, Justin and Jamie; sisters, Marcil Lasch, Alma Lasch, and Loretta Pittman, all of Lodi, Joyce Taylor of Wayne, Mich.; and brother Glen of Inverness, Fla. He was preceded in death by four brothers.

George Edward Powell
George Edward Powell, 100, passed away June 5, 1998 at Magnolia Care Center, in Wadsworth, where he resided the last four months.
He was born in Fairfield, Il., March 13, 1898 to the late John and Elizal Powell, and had lived in the Akron area for over 80 years. George retired in 1963 after 38 years service, from what is now Bridgestone-Firestone, as a tire builder. He enjoyed his garden, sold vegetables at his roadside stand, and loved to listen to the Cleveland Indians ball games on the radio.
Preceded in death by siblings, Marshall, Oscar, Bertha, and Lowell; first wife, Marie; step-daughter, Anita; and his second wife, Flossie Stonebrook. He will be missed by his step-daughter, caregiver and friend, Alice Longfellow; stepson, Edward Stonebrook; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

Bernice Christine Powers (nee Golden) of Twinsburg, went home to be with her Lord Monday, June 1, 1998, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 30, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Bernice was the loving and devoted wife of Carlton R. Sr.; daughter of Christine B. Golden; mother of Reeda (Fred) Robertson, Carlton R. Jr. (Stephanie), JoAnn (Melvin) Harley, Robert (Otha C.) Garrette, Tena Jones, Rhonda (Larry) Gaines, and Annette (Tommie) Williams; grandmother of 21; great-grandmother of 14; sister-in-law of Christine Golden, Ellis (Lucy) Golden, L. Hank Golden and Robert Golden; an aunt and cousin to a host of relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Emmett K. Golden; brother, Emmett W. Golden, and great granddaughter, T'Nyshia Robertson.

Forrest A. ``Bud'' Price
Forrest A. ``Bud'' Price, 79, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, after a short illness.
He was born Aug. 9, 1918, the first of two children born to Walter A. and Helen Price. They lived in Akron on North Hill. He attended North High School and went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance. Upon graduation, he was hired by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., where he spent 43 years in various accounting positions. In 1983, he retired from Goodyear as Director of Taxes.
His affiliations and accomplishments included Summit County Children Services Board member 1964-1979, serving as chairman in 1973; trustee of Ohio Manufacturers Association; chairman of the Association Taxation Committee; Advisory Committee of the Akron Planning and Urban Renewal Agency; vice president of Akron Regional Development Board's Research Committee; chairman of the Regional Development Board's Taxation and Legislative Committee; 1977 Spirit Award winner--Comptroller Division--Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.
In 1941, he married Carolyn Jane Shaffer. They had two children, Gregory and Judith. They purchased a home in Cuyahoga Falls and lived there until his retirement in 1983, when they moved to their present home. He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he was the first lay president. He served as an elder and deacon; member and past president of the Ushers League, served on council as treasurer; Search Committee member; Victory Class member.
He was an honorable man who kept the rules and played the game. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great--grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Forrest is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Karen Price; daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Jim Walser; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jean and Steve Bailey of Ormond Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Kristie Shaffer, Kelly Lostetter (Allen), Kim Shaffer, Brian Shaffer, Jeff Price, and Michael Price; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Alex Lostetter; three nieces, and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ, with Rev. David S. Kiewit officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Richard A. Pringle, 73, died June 5, 1998.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and later moved to Wooster, Ohio. He was a graduate of Wooster High School. He attended Morehouse College and graduated from the College of Wooster.
He is preceded in death by father, Ewart Pringle, mother, Margaret Bernice Wilson Pringle. He is survived by his children, Daphne Scott, Blanche, Randy, Allison Johnson, Karen and Joseph, Anthony and Patrice; brother, Wilson; sisters, Romaine Pringle, and Phyliss Miller; four grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
