Vesta J. McElroy, 76, of East Summit Street, Kent, died Wednesday at her home.
She was born Nov. 13, 1921, in Kent to Harry A. and Agnes (Drake) Favors. She retired from Kent State University Bookstore, where she was a book buyer. She was a member of Methodist Church of Avon, Ohio, and the Kent State University School--39'er Committee.
Survivors include her daughters, Michelle Carnahan of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Karla J. McElroy of San Francisco, Calif., and Paula (Stephen) Jonsson of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Suzan Carnahan of Woodranch, Calif., Geoffrey Jonsson of Bradenton, Fla., and Lisa Jonsson of Bradenton, Fla.; and sisters, Vivian Favors Garl of Kent and Mary Sowinski of Port Charlotte, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M., in 1994; and by sister, Charlotte ``Louise'' Darrah in 1993.

David William McFrye, 34, of St. Augustine Beach, Fla., formerly of Akron, died March 8, 1998.
David was born in Akron, and graduated from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, Class of '81. He moved to Florida 15 years ago, and was employed as a carpenter.

Thomas Michael (Tom Tom) McIver left his earthy home Tuesday, March 10, 1998, after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 14, 1966, and had been an Akron resident all of his life. He was a graduate of Garfield High School.

Born in Akron, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, life member of V.F.W. Post No. 1062, member of Honor Guard and Color Guard, and past commander of American Legion Post 611 and 40 & 8 Voyageur No. 468.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Jerri Lynn Page, John (Dawn) McKee, Susan (Don) Reed, Paul (Karri) Troutman, Casie and Shelley Troutman; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

William D. McReynolds, 93, went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 1998 at Akron City Hospital.
Born in Pensecola, Fla., he lived as a beloved member of the Akron, Ohio community for many years and was retired from the Sheraton and Mayflower Hotels.

CANAL FULTON -- Helen I. Messner, 84, went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 1998, at Chapel Hill Community Home in Canal Fulton.
She was born in Norton, and was a resident of Canal Fulton for the past eight years. She was employed by the Guernsey Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio, for nine years as a nurses' aide. She was a member of Canal Fulton Christian Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by husband, James L.; daughters, Dorothy Smith and Evelyn Carneal; son, Joseph. She is survived by sons, James R. (Janice) of Canal Fulton and William of Akron; daughters, Janet (B. E. Bruner) of Florida, Mary Munson of California, and Shirley (Don) Brumblough of Clinton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Marion Leatherman of Wadsworth and Doris Gorby of Oregon. She leaves many friends at Echoing Ridge in Canal Fulton; and special friends Jean and Frank Sawyer of Clinton.

Evelyn M. Meyer, 54, of Akron, passed away March 15, 1998, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Bombay, India, she lived in the Akron area most of her life. Mrs. Meyer was formerly employed by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., and currently worked at Acme Super Center 53. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by her father, Albert J. Crites, she is survived by her husband of 29 years, Kenneth Meyer; son, Michael; daughter, Kimberly Meyer, both of Akron; mother, Winifred Crites of Akron; brother, Richard Crites of Florida; sisters, Sally Rumble of Illinois, Sue Adams of Stow; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wendell and Betty Meyer of Tallmadge.

Joseph J. Miller
Joseph J. Miller, 73, of Lodi, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Medina General Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1924, and was a lifetime resident of Lodi. Joe enlisted in the United States Navy upon graduation from Lodi High School, and served in the European campaign during World War II. Upon his return he was employed at Fetzer Ford and became owner of the dealership in 1978, under the name of Turek-Miller Ford. He was a member of the Lodi Chamber of Commerce, Lodi American Legion, Lodi Rotary, and Lodi Methodist Church. He was honored as Lodi Businessman of the Year in 1985, and retired in 1990.
Surviving are wife, Eva; daughter, Chris (Dan) Goodrow of Lodi; son, Tommy (Rebecca) of Delaware, Ohio; two granddaughters, four stepchildren, seven stepgrandchildren; sisters, Lucile Welsh of Savannah and Glady Carr of Mansfield; and brother, Dick Miller of Wadsworth. He was preceded in death by wife, Josephine; sisters, X Bryant and Helen House; and brother, Bruce Miller.

Leo Miller, 80, died March 14, 1998.
Mr. Miller was born in Gladstone, N. D., and had been an Akron resident since 1942. He was a licensed civil engineer, retiring from Goodyear Aerospace with 40 years service. Mr. Miller was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel.

Richard T. Miller Sr., 64, passed away March 2, 1998, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Miller was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Miller, Susan and Terry Mellen, Jenny Miller; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Jr. and Chris Miller, Jeffery and Rose Miller, Steven and Laurie Miller, Robert Miller, Dennis Miller; brothers and sister-in-law, Vernon Miller Jr., Bill and Vee Miller; 11 grandchildren; mother of his seven children, with whom he remained good friends, Ellie Moll.

Betty Jean (Provence) Mitchell
On March 15, 1998, and after a short illness, Betty was absent from the body and present with the Lord Jesus Christ, whom she trusted and loved as her personal savior, and from whom she received the gift of eternal life.
Betty was born on December 12, 1927, in Gary, Ind. She was the third daughter and one of nine children of the late Henry J. and Sylvia M. Provence. She resided in the Akron-Uniontown-North Canton area all of her life shortly after birth. Betty was an alumni of the Coventry High School Class of 1945, and was a very active member of the Coventry High School Alumni Association, having served as vice president, and currently serving as a trustee and a member of the Scholarship Committee. Betty was employed at the Babcock Wilcox Company in the Accounting Department, and retired in 1995 after 29 years of faithful service.
Betty's home going was preceded by the passing of her parents; sisters, Henrietta J. Provence and Athena M. Hunt; and brother, Edward L. Provence. She was the beloved mother to one daughter and four sons; beloved grandmother to eleven; and beloved great-grandmother to one. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bob Petroski of Uniontown; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Rana of Oceanside, Calif., Kelly and Vickie, and Scott and Teri, all of Cuyahoga Falls, and Steve and Michelle of Hartville; sisters, Louise Arbuckle of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mary Randolph of Mogadore; brothers, James H. Provence, Paul D. Provence, and Richard W. Provence, all of Akron; grandchildren, Shari (Mark) Austin, Julie (Greg) Menendez, Rick (Jeanine) Mitchell, Cindy (Steve) Ivey, Katie, Alexis, Adam, Matthew, Heather, Shelbey, and Conner Mitchell; and great-grandchild, Ashley Austin.
Betty was a charter and faithful member of Calvary Church in Uniontown. Her faithful pastor and longtime friend, Michael J. Porter Allen ``PI'' Mong, 84, died March 4, 1998.
He was a life resident of the Barberton and Akron areas, and retired from Polysar Rubber in 1984 after 47 years of service. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Barberton First Church of Christ and Barberton Bowling League.

Annie Catherine Moore
Annie Catherine Moore, 64, of Elkmont, Ala., died March 16, 1998, at Athens Limestone Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1933, in Giles County, Tenn., she was a school bus driver for the Board of Mental Retardation in Akron, as well as an Ohio nurse for 20 years at Akron General Medical Center. She was a member of Holiness Church of Jesus.
She is survived by her sons, Darry Moore and Keith Moore, both of Elkmont, Ala.; daughters, Helen Boley of Elkmont, Ala., and Brenda Gover of Athens, Ala.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brothers, James Newman of Moulton, Johnny Newman of Leighton, Ala., Daniel Newman of Mississippi, and Bobby Newman of Town Creek; sisters, Myrtle Anderson, Rachel Parker, Joyce Davis, all of Athens, Ala., Marie Bolin and Hazel Adams, both of Elkmont, Ala., and Margaret Tarpley of Anderson.

Virgie W. Morrell, 89, passed away March 7, 1998 at Pleasantview Nursing Home.
She was born in Shelbyville, Tenn., and lived most of her life in the Akron area.
