Lucies Caine
Lucies Caine, 83, departed this earthly life March 20, 1998, after an extended illness. Homegoing services will be held Friday, March 27, 1998, 1 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 327 Cuyahoga St., Rev. Dr. Luther C. Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service at the church. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Salvatore Campisi
Salvatore Campisi, 76, died March 19, 1998. Salvatore had been a musician for ``65'' years. He had been known as ``Jake Campisi,'' his stage name. He was part owner of ``ABC'' School of Music on Lovers Lane in Akron. He also worked for Russ Mussara, who owned Akron Accordion Center, as Russ's manager until 1966. He played with local bands such as Tony & the Rhythm Kings and the Joe Licata Band, broadcasted on radio, WJW, WADC, WPIC, WTAM, WMNM, WWVA, and WAKR. He had played with different bands, such as ``Down on the Farm Gang,'' Sun Dodgers, Plumer Sharp & Southern Rambler, Aircraft Orchestra, in Fairmont, ``Jake Taylor & the Rail Splitters with Grandpa Jones.'' All dance halls in Summit County and numerous V.F.W.s have heard Wayne Purdew & the Rhythmaires and ``Jake's'' accordion. He was a member of the Eagles East and South Akron. He was a deputy sheriff of Summit County, Akron, for 10 years. He retired on July 25, 1997 as a truck driver from Kent Mold & Machine Co. with nine years service, and previously worked for over 23 years with Vance Precision. He was preceded in death by wife of 42 years, Bettie Campisi; sister, Rose Barbieri; father and mother, Michael and Carmela Campisi. He is survived by daughters, Sally DeVoy and Ron Frame, and Cathy Campisi and Don Millward, both of Akron; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Shirley of Cuyahoga Falls, Michael and Karen of Pennsylvania, and Paul of Akron; sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Frank Amadeo of Akron; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and many special neighbors. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 936 N. Main St., with Rev. Howard D. Powell officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Virginia Dare Casto
STOW -- Virginia Dare Casto went to be with the Lord, and her mother, Viola Lee, on Wednesday, March 18, 1998. Stricken with polio since 1950 and confined to a wheelchair, she still managed to raise her children, Gail, David, Susan, Beth, John, Paul, Jim, and Amy; each one was her favorite. She also took care of her mother just as her mother had taken care of her. Born Oct. 11, 1926, in Akron, to Viola and Kenneth Lee, she graduated from Central High School. Along with raising her children, she enjoyed simple things: long car rides, lying out in the sun, listening to Yanni, feeding birds, and taking care of her two dogs, Muffin and Millie. But most of all, she enjoyed her grandchildren, all 14 of them. Preceded in death by her mother, Viola Lee; and father, Kenneth Lee, she will be dearly missed by her family: Gail (Dave) Emmitt, David Casto and his longtime companion, Roger Simpson, Susan (Bruce) Coe, Beth (Jim) Adams, John (Monica) Casto, Paul (Shelly) Casto, Jim (Kim) Casto, and Amy (Eric) Peters; her eight granddaughters, six grandsons, all in the Akron area; brother, Jerry (Terry) Lee of Cuyahoga Falls; and dear friend, Beverly Prechtel of Stow. Rev. David Kiewit will conduct funeral services at 12 noon Saturday at Redmon Funeral Home, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and one hour prior to service. Burial at Stow Cemetery. Roberta L. Cenney
Roberta L. Cenney (Payne), a resident of Kent Quality Nursing Home, passed away March 18, 1998. She was born Jan. 14, 1919, and was a lifelong resident of the Cuyahoga Falls area. In 1951, she started working for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in the Payroll Department, retiring after 25 years of service. Roberta was a member of the Goodyear Blue and Gold and 25-Year Club. She is survived by her cousins, Vera Hopkins and Frances Dawson. Services will be held at 11 a.m. TUESDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, corner of 23rd and Falls Avenue, with Rev. Dick Morris officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Boston Heights, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to service time. Pamela Choate, 38, passed away March 16, 1998. Pam was born in Barberton on Oct. 23, 1959. She was an employee of Health-aven Nursing Home. She is survived by husband, James; sons, Herman Gillman Jr., Gregory Gillman, and Michael Gillman; mother, Dorean Smith; brothers, Ronnie Smith, Terry Smith, and Rodney Smith. Emma Valentine Christian
Emma Valentine Christian, 83, passed away March 13, 1998, at Akron General Medical Center, after a long illness. Emma's love in life was her art. She was happiest sitting in front of a sewing machine, working on a new clay project, or making dolls; she was avid about her dolls. Preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Oscar Valentine Jr., she leaves, to mourn her passing, twin sisters, Martha Jeanne (Willie Melvin) Rosser, sister, Mia (Gerri) Kordresci (Ahmed); nieces, Georgella Watson, Joan Valentine, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; nephew, William Valentine of Detroit, Mich.; good friend, attorney John Snoderly; many friends, and other relatives. She became one of Jehovah's Witnesses at an early age, attending North Hill Congregation, and was currently attending the Portage Path Congregation. David Joe James ``Yid Man'' Churchill II, died March 26, 1998, after a battle with leukemia. Born Dec. 10, 1994, to David J. Churchill and Hollie McHood, he is also survived by brother, Dylan; grandparents, Dorothy Klapp, Robert and Donna Calaway, Wendy and Mike Goehler; great-grandparents, Barbara and Bill Hammock, and Margaret Shaver; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Infant Gabrielle Charmaine Cleveland passed away March 18, 1998 at Akron City Hospital. Ralph E. Cline
Ralph E. Cline, 82, passed away March 24, 1998, after a brief illness. Born in Layland, Ohio, he lived in the Akron area most of his life, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Cline retired from Goodyear Aerospace after 26 years of service in the aircraft wheel and brake division. He was a member of Firestone Park United Methodist Church, Tallmadge Lodge 756 F&AM, Yusef Khan Grotto, and was an active member of the Ellet Golden Keenagers. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruth; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Robin Cline of Summerville, S.C.; grandchildren, Brian, Darren, and Autumn; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Cline; and brother, Dale Cline of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Funeral services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. (Route 91), Akron, with Pastor William E. Norman and Evangelist Judy Shaffer officiating. John W. Cobrda
Mr. John W. Cobrda, 84, of Greensboro, N. C., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 1998, after a prolonged illness. John was a loving, giving, and caring husband and father, who enjoyed his life and family. He was a devoted member of the Lutheran faith since birth, and remained actively involved in church activities until his illness. He was also dedicated to the activities of the United Lutheran Society, a fraternal organization for Lutherans, and was bestowed by the society in 1995 the Honorable Vlaska Award for lifetime dedication and commitment. He served as the financial secretary and treasurer of the Assembly 150 in Akron, and also served on the National Board of Directors in the position of Second National Vice President. John was a military veteran, proudly serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He dedicated his life to his family, and was an excellent carpenter, builder, and gardener. He took his family on extended trips around the country each year. In these later years, his true pride and joy was his grandson, Jonathan. He was employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron, where he retired in 1976 after 35 years of service. Following his retirement, John and his wife happily moved to Deltona, Fla., joining the Lutheran Church of Providence. Shortly after his retirement, John became ill and never fully recovered. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn; daughter and son-in-law, Genny and Jerry Rothstein; son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Pauline; grandson, Jonathan, all of Greensboro, N. C.; dear sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and John Ruman; nephew and niece, Roger and Sue Ruman; and great-nephew, Roger John Ruman, all of Akron. John also leaves many dear relatives, friends, and neighbors in Ohio, Florida, and Greensboro, N. C. His original family extends to the former country of Yugoslavia. A Service of Remembrance to John will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Firestone Park Lutheran Church, 150 Wayne Ave., Akron, where the body will lie in state one hour prior to service, Pastor Andrew Mazak officiating. Earl L. Cochran
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Earl L. Cochran, 90, passed away March 25, 1998. Mr. Cochran was born in Cuyahoga Falls, where he had resided his entire life. He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1925, received his B.A. from Ohio State University, and his M.B.A. in education from Kent State University. He retired in 1970 as a geography teacher for West Junior High in Akron with 30 years service, and was a charter member of Bethany United Church of Christ, where he had served as an usher. He was a member of the Falls High Football Hall of Fame, had been secretary of the Falls High Yost Club, and was a member of the Cuyahoga Falls Evening Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann L.; brothers, Raymond, Lester, and Merle; and, sister Vera L. Anderson, and is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Mary Pat of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Rebecca Elaine and Michael Patrick; sisters-in-law, Jane Cochran and Isabel Cochran, both of Cuyahoga Falls; brother-in-law, Delmont Anderson of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Wallace G. Coleman
Wallace G. Coleman, 83 years, of Akron, died March 28, 1998 at his home. Born in Cadiz, Ky., Wally was a resident of Akron since 1940. He retired from Goodyesr Tire in 1977 with over 30 years service. He was a member of the United States Army Air Force serving over four years as a Staff Sergeant in WWII (Egypt-Libya; Napoli-Foggia and Rome-Arno) where he won three bronze stars. After the war he was a member of the Air Force Reserves three and a half years serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of Annunciation Church and Holy Name Society, the VFW Post 3383, P.L.A.V. and URW Local 2. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma M.; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sue Coleman of Munroe Falls, Ron and Linda Coleman of Ridgeley, W. Va.; grandchildren, Heather, Josh, and Jill Coleman and Brandee, Amy, Alicia and Chase Coleman. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, 10:00 am at Annunciation Church. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Wilma J. Copeland
Wilma J. Copeland, 86, passed away March 22, 1998, in Georgia. Born in Montrose, W. Va., she retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 19 1/2 years of service. Mrs. Copeland was a member of Church of the Master, United Methodist Women, Wingfoot Girls Club, and Goodyear Local 2 Retirees. Dorothy (Athey) Crabb
NORTON -- Dorothy (Athey) Crabb, 80, died March 23, 1998. She was a resident of Norton and Doylestown for 55 years, retired from Clarkins after 16 years of service, and attended the Country Chapel. She was preceded in death by husband, Lilburn Crabb; parents, Agnes and Thomas McLaughlin; brother, George McLaughlin; sister, Anna Erwin; and great-grandson, Paul J. Lengen. Surviving are daughter, Beverly Hooker of Norton; son, Gerald E. Athey of Barberton; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Croft of Virginia, Jacqueline Young of Massillon; brother, Thomas Murray McLaughlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie Cunnington
Marie Cunnington, 88, died March 3, 1998, in Waunakee, Wis. She retired after 40 years at Local 219 Plumbing & Pipe Fitting in Akron. Preceded in death by her husband, Albert B. Cunnington; and daughter, Margaret (Bean) Brown, she is survived by her four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and, like a son, Ed (Barb) Shanholtz of Ohio.

David W. Cutlip
David W. Cutlip, passed away March 25, 1998, at Akron City Hospital, of complications from a stroke. He was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Tioga, W. Va., to Earl E. and E. Mae Cutlip. David joined the Army in 1935 at the age of 17 and served in Patton's Third Army in ETO in World War II. He was discharged in 1945 but was recalled at the beginning of the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of master sergeant, and also assisted with special projects at Fort Knox and Camp Campbell, Ky. He worked in the steel mill in Waukegan, Ill., moving to Akron in the mid-1950s. He retired from Bridgestone/Firestone in 1982, where he was employed as an electrician. He held a journeyman electrician's card of which he was very proud. He was a member of Local 7 and also Sherwood Park Baptist Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, and youngest brother, Herbert. David leaves his beloved cat, Hywet; wife, Peggy; sons, Terry Allen and Richard; daughter, Pamela; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Francis (John) Haberkost of Akron, Roberta Klein of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; brother Earl of Springfield, Ohio; nieces, nephews, many cousins, special friends and neighbors. The family will recieve friends Sunday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the CIRIELLO FUNERAL HOME--ROSE HILL CHAPEL, 3653 W. Market St., where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m., Rev.
