Betty P. Marty
RITTMAN -- Betty P. Marty, 65, died March 18, 1998, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital. She was born at Clarington and moved to Rittman in 1955. She was a member of the Milton Presbyterian Church. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Rick (Tammie) Shreve of Rittman and Connie Jo Marty of Mt. Eaton; brothers, Charles McKelvey of Clarington and Diamond McKelvey of Belmont; sisters, Elda Winkler and Martha Kerns, both of Clarington and Dorothy Bryant of Quaker City; and five grandchildren. Her husband, Carl, died in 1990. Services Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Rev. Richard A. Stanley M. Mazzagatti, 62, passed away March 30, 1998. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Mazzagatti had been employed by the McNeil Corp. for 25 years, and was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Sue; daughters, Gina (Dave) Sekusky of Akron and Lisa (Rick) Karam of Akron; sons, Anthony (Pat) Mazzagatti of Akron, Mark Sr. (Janet) Mazzagatti of Randolph, Jeffery Mazzagatti of Akron, and James (Marie) Mazzagatti of Akron; sisters, Adaline Kolesar of Stow and Josephine Sweeney of Akron; brothers Thomas Mazzagatti of Dallas, Texas; 16 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Clarence A. McClintic
Clarence A. McClintic, 97, passed away March 15, 1998, at Hospice Care Center. He was born March 23, 1900, in Richwood, W. Va. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. with over 22 years service, and was a member of Goodyear Local 2 and the Monongahela Rampeaters Association. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Goldie Bethune of Akron; stepgrandson, Terry (June) Bower; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, 1998, at the ADAMS MASON MEMORIAL CHAPEL (791 E. Market St.), where friends may call one hour prior to service; Rev. C. Darrell Leon McDonald
CALIFORNIA -- Darrell Leon McDonald, 58, of Pacific Palisades, Calif., passed away Sunday afternoon, March 15, 1998. He was a former resident of Akron and a graduate of Akron University, where he became a Professor of Fatherhood, a curriculum he researched and newly introduced to the university. He moved to California in 1978, where he founded a successful medical purchasing corporation. He leaves behind his loving family: wife, Theodora McDonald; daughters, Hillary Seyward McDonald and Jackie Lynn Vance; sister and brothers, Heidi Maryann, Roger Eliott and Fred Lee McDonald; as well as many other loving family members and friends. He will be greatly missed on this earth, but never forgotten. He was the apple of our eyes. Services were held in California on Wednesday, March 18.

Ruth E. McDonnell, 81, of Akron, passed away Monday, March 23, 1998, at St. Edward's Nursing Home, after an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be TODAY at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Church. Bette Robinson McGee
Bette McGee, 79, passed away March 21, 1998, at the Country Place in Cuyahoga Falls, after a five-year battle with cancer. Bette is survived by her husband of 58 years, Virgil; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Janet of Marietta, Ga.; son, Douglas of Columbus; special daughter-in-law, Carol McGee; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Bette was the Welcome Wagon hostess in the Stow area for many years. Bette has donated her body to the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Blvd., Cuyahoga Falls, at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28. Services will be conducted by Dr. Donald Nichols. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pilgrim United Church of Christ.

Mary E. McGowan, 76, went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 1998, at Akron City Hospital, after a long illness. Margaret E. McGuinness
Margaret E. McGuinness, 79, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998 while residing with her daughter in Texas. Born in Indiana, Mrs. McGuinness has been an Akron resident for most of her life and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. A former member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, she currently belonged to Immaculate Conception Parish. She was proud of her Irish heritage and has been a long time member and past president of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hiberians. Other memberships include the Forrest Good Post V.F.W. Auxiliary, the St. Peter's Grandmother's Club, and the Summit County Republican Central Committee. Preceded in death by her husband, Paul; she is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Eileen and James Nelson of The Colony, Tex., Sheree McGuinness of Kent; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Dorothy of North Carolina and Timothy of Akron; brothers, Frank Aldridge of Houston, Tex. and Robert Aldridge of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, James Patrick, Paul, Kevin, Adam, Megan, Sean, and Danny; many nieces and nephews. Lillian Sally McMillen, 88, died March 21, 1998, at the Arbors of Fairlawn. A native of Pennsylvania, she was an area resident most of her life, and had been a member of Kenmore United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Max, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Raymond Flegal of Akron; grandchildren, Raymond Jr., James (April), Mark, and Karen; great-grandchildren, Tyler, William, and Aaron, all of Akron; niece, Inez Park of Brookpark. Birda Leola Merritt
Birda Leola Merritt, 63, passed away March 19, 1998 at Akron General Medical Center after a long illness. Born in Talladega, Al., she had lived in this community 31 years. She had been employed in Housekeeping at Barberton Citizens Hospital for 13 years retiring in 1993. She was a member and Deaconess of Akron First Seventh Day Adventist Church, Prayer Group at church, Alabama Club, Life subscribing member of NAACP and a foster mother for many years. She is survived by sons, Cecil T. Lee (Shirley), Ajamu Apara, Ronnie Lee (Lynn), Harry R. Lee (Patricia), Leroy A. Lee; daughter, Shelia Fowler (Spencer); special son, Van Davis; brother, Willie Riggins, all of Akron; sister, Mary H. Carter, Knoxville, Tn; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; special cousin/sister, Alice Parks, Akron; a host of other relatives and friends. Sgt. John S. Messenger, O.A.R.N.G.
John S. Messenger, O.A.R.N.G., 55, of Akron, died suddenly March 23, 1998. John was born in Akron on May 16, 1942, and was a lifelong resident of the Akron area. He was employed with Chapel Hill Mall Management for 18 years. He enlisted in the Army (1961-1964), and into the Army National Guard (1983-1995) in Company B 112th Engineering B.N., then tranferred to H.H.C. 1-107th Cavalry as a heavy-vehicle driver. He served with the 107th Cavalry from 1995 until the present, and was a sergeant in the Support Platoon. His memberships included V.F.W. Ralph Huff Post 1062 and the Knights of Pythias. He is survived by his wife, Mary J.; daughter, Lillian M. (Rick) Hall; son, David A. and Nancy Messenger; grandchildren, Jerry, Ricky Jr., Savanna, and Cole Hall, Michael, Alexis, Madison, and Jenna Messenger; parents, Mary R. and Amos Messenger; brothers, Dan (Tsianina), Rev. Richard (Meg), and Ron (Ruth); sister, Candy (Dave) Woody-Krannich; also many nieces and nephews. Bernard Richard Meyer, 84, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of North East, Pa., and Akron, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Hope Hospice House in Ft. Myers, Fla. He was the husband of Doris Edith Claus Meyer; father of Henry Frederick Meyer and wife, Janice, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; brother of James Meyer of Erie, Pa., Paul Meyer of Ft. Myers, Fla., Florence Connelly of North East, Frances (Pat) Winslow of Cuyahoga Falls, and Joan E. Brigham of North East; grandfather of five, and great-grandfather of six. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Peter Sabin of Stow; son, Howard Mikkelsen of Illinois; grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, and Tiffany Sabin, Shana and Dustin Mikkelsen. STOW -- Betty Marie Miller, 76, died March 25, 1998. Born in Akron, she had lived in Stow 45 years, and retired from the M. O'Neil Co. with 11 years service. She was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where she was former president and board member of Women of ELCA, and sang in the choir with her late husband, Clarence, for many years. Mrs. Miller was also a member of O'Neil's Retirees, and had donated over 11 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. She is survived by daughters, Susan (Jerry) Wright of Glenwood, Minn., Janet (Stephen) Erwine of Shelby, N. C.; sons, John (Karen) of Brent- wood, Tenn., Roger (Kathy) of Williamsburg, Va., Richard (Lynne) of Newnan, Ga.; nine grandchildren; brother, Clifford (Lucille) Schultz of Dearborn, Mich. Born Aug. 24, 1933, in Giles County, Tenn., she was a school bus driver for the Board of Mental Retardation in Akron, as well as an Ohio nurse for 20 years at Akron General Medical Center. She was a member of Holiness Church of Jesus. She is survived by her sons, Darry Moore and Keith Moore, both of Elkmont, Ala.; daughters, Helen Boley of Elkmont, Ala., and Brenda Gover of Athens, Ala.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brothers, James Newman of Moulton, Johnny Newman of Leighton, Ala., Daniel Newman of Mississippi, and Bobby Newman of Town Creek; sisters, Myrtle Anderson, Rachel Parker, Joyce Davis, all of Athens, Ala., Marie Bolin and Hazel Adams, both of Elkmont, Ala., and Margaret Tarpley of Anderson.
