Virginia M. Sandmann, 78, passed away March 19, 1998.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Sandmann had been an area resident for the past nine years, and was a member of Tallmadge Lutheran Church.
Preceded in death by son, Paul, she is survived by her husband, Rudolph; daughter, Kristi (Robert) Roegner of Aurora, Ill.; sons, Terry (Mary) Sandmann of Medina, Melvin Sandmann of Cleveland; and seven grandchildren.

Robert E. ``Bob'' Sax, 62, passed on to eternal life on March 26, 1998.
An Akron resident for most of his life, Bob had graduated from St. Mary's High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. He was an avid sports fan and also coached young kids in football and basketball.
Preceded in death by his father, Albert; sister, Charlene; and grandson, Justin Hastings, he is survived by wife, Mary A.; mother, Marie; children, Michael, Kathy (Bill) Gween, Debbie Davis, Mary (Mike) Hastings, Kim (Jeff) Stage; stepchildren, Heith, Seth, and Melissa Mohler; brother, Jerry (Nancy); sister, Marjorie; and many loving grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Christine Ann Fadel Schaffer, 35, of Temucula, Calif., passed away on March 16, 1998 after a long illness.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, Christine moved to Mission Viejo, Calif. with her family after her father retired from the Air Force. She worked for the U.S. Census Bureau with later careers in modeling, secretarial and real estate appraisal work.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lena Fadel. She leaves her husband of ten years, Scott Schaffer; parents, Ferris and Diane Fadel; sisters, Terese, Maria, Karen and their families of California; uncle, Chaker Fadel of Akron.

Alice Schweizer, 90, of Akron, died March 26, 1998.
Miss Schweizer was born in Cleveland and lived in Switzerland until coming to Akron 74 years ago. Alice operated a photography studio on Grant Street for many years, and was a premier family and child photographer.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jacob; her mother, Rosa Wilhelm; and brother, Erwin.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 647 E. Market St., 44304, where she was a member and deaconess, Rev. Mark T. Ruppert officiating. Dale H. Seifert, 62, of Canal Fulton, died Thursday, March 19, 1998.
He was born in Massillon to the late Alvin and Florence (Clementz) Seifert, and had lived in Canal Fulton for the past 43 years. He retired in 1990 from East Ohio Gas Co., and also worked for Skipco Financial Adjusters and Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home in his retirement. He was a member of K of C Council 544 4th Degree, Bishop Massillon Assembly, and Canal Fulton Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Debbie Seifert of Canal Fulton; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Calvin, Barbara and Rick Fogle, all of Canal Fulton, and Heather and Dan Decker of Massillon; grandchildren, Brandon Seifert, Jessica Seifert, Matthew Calvin, and Lindsay Fogle; brothers, Howard of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Eugene of Massillon; sister, Mary Evelyn Slicker of Massillon; sister-in-law, Margaret Seifert of North Canton; brother-in-law, Cletus Barnhart of Massillon; He was preceded in death by son, David Dale, one sister, and one brother.

Margaret E. Sellars, 87 years of Akron died March 19, 1998 at Rockynol.
Born in Hindsford, England, Margaret was a resident of Akron since 1930. She was a member of the Clan McKenzie Auxillary.

Joyce A. Severance (Hill), 58, of Ellet, passed away March 28, 1998, at Hospice Care Center, after an eight-month battle with cancer.
She was retired from Ohio Edison after 28 years service.

Charles Sinder, M. D., 67, succumbed on March 18, 1998, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Dr. Sinder was the beloved husband and best friend for 37 years of Joan; devoted father and father-in-law of Scott and Jodie, Jay, and Stephanie; dear brother and brother-in-law of Arlene and Bruce Slomka, and Ned and Patricia Sinder; dearest grandfather of Keith and Madeline, and also ``Les Girls.''

Larry Sisson
Larry Sisson, 71, of Evergreen Drive, Kent, died Tuesday at his home in Kent.
He was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Port Vue, Pa., to W. O. and Jennie (Rider) Sisson. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a partner in Greer Heating in Kent. He was a member of the Kent Kiwanis, Brunch Bunch, Jaycees, Rockton Lodge 316 Free & Accepted Masons, the Kent United Church of Christ, and many other organizations.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married Oct. 14, 1950, Jean (Greer); sons, Eric Redmond Sisson of Kent, Michael Edwin Sisson of Kent; daughter, Carol Jean Manges of Kent; six grandchildren; brothers, Charles and Ronald Sisson of Aliquippa, Pa.; sisters, Roberta Loveall of East McKeesport, Pa., Nora Maranciak, Loretta Iorfido, Betty Todd, Gerry Sisson, all of Aliquippa, Pa. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Omar Sisson.

John F. Skelly, 51, of Seventh Street, Cuyahoga Falls, died Friday at Akron General Medical Center.
He was born November 27, 1946 in Ravenna to Samuel A. and Mary Ellen (Corley) Skelly. He was a registered nurse at Fallsview Psychiatric Hospital for 30 years.
Survivors include his brothers, David of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland and James of Kensington; sisters, Elizabeth Skelly of Kensington and Marilyn (Dan) Schetz of Cuyahoga Falls; and nieces, Jessica Schetz and Lelia Schetz, both of Cuyahoga Falls. Walter Small Sr., 80, went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 1998, at his residence, after a long illness.
Born in Clarksdale, Miss., he had lived in this community since 1945. He was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber for 36 years, retiring in 1982, and was a member of U.R.W. Local 2 and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Florida; sons, Walter (Michelle) Small Jr. of Union City, Tenn., Charles W. (Alice) Small Sr. and Dr. Sylvester (Elaine) Small, both of Akron, Dr. Leonard (Lyn) Small of Cincinnati,, Lt. Richard L. (Elizabeth) Small of Brimfield, and Gregory N. Thomia Smilaycoff, 88, of Canton, died Sunday morning at Manor Care Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.
Born in Aqios Panteliminos, Greece, she had been a Canton resident for 50 years. Mrs. Smilaycoff attended St. Elia the Prophet Orthodox Church of Akron and St. George Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church of Canton.
Thomia was preceded in death by her husband, Pando Smilaycoff, in 1968; and by brother, Steve Geridis. Survivors include daughter, Florence Berger; son, Mark Smilaycoff; grandson, Michael Berger, all of Canton.

He was born in Berlin, Pa., and resided for 45 years in Barberton. He was an employee of B. F. Goodrich Co. with 40 years service, retiring 18 years ago. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Barberton.
He was preceded in death by wife, Roma Bell. He is survived by sisters, Mary Steen of Tallmadge, Florence Roberts of Oregon City, Ore., Amelia Redmund of Florida; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Stephanie Magdaline Smith (Maggie), 80, of Akron, died March 25, 1998, at Hospice Care Center.
She retired from B. F. Goodrich after 42 years of service. Maggie lived her life to the fullest and will be remembered by her family and friends for her many loving acts as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had an uncanny knack for numbers and her love of bingo was legendary.
Maggie was preceded in death by husband, James Smith Sr.; loving daughter, Margie Fogarty; and brother, George Kubiski. She is survived by sons, Gene Blackford of Cuyahoga Falls and David Blackford of Akron; stepson, James D. Betty J. Sprague (nee Newman), formerly of Akron, passed away March 19, 1998, peacefully, at home in Forest Park, Cincinnati, Ohio.
A wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was the beloved wife of the late Forrest K. Sprague; loving mother of Rhea (George) Robishaw of Akron, Don Sprague, David (Margo) Sprague, both of Cincinnati, Deborah (Jens) Jensen of Arizona, and Kristine Sprague Wilkens, also of Cincinnati; caring grandmother of Scott and Wendi Robishaw, Susan (Lee) Lawson, Jennifer Sprague, Jessica, Jeremiah, Rheanna, and Rachel Jensen and Jeff Wilkens; caring great-grandmother of Brooke Betscher and Grant Lawson; aunt of Linda (Sam) Riley, John Harold Newman and Kim (John) Oles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lucy Newman and brother, John Newman. She also leaves loving friends, Bev and Jeff Martin.
Betty would have been 77 on April 13, 1998. After all her years of pain and suffering, now she suffers no more.
Betty was a graduate of Akron East High School Class of '39. She loved to watch the birds from her window, ``talked'' a great garden, adored her cats, and was looking forward to the first day of Spring.

Betty Joe Starcher, 67, passed away March 27, 1998. She was born in Hookersville, W. Va., on April 17, 1930. Preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Darrell Starcher; sister, Nellie Johnson; and brother, Richard Spinks, she was the loving mother of sons, David (Wanda) of Tallmadge, Daniel Paul (Pam), Terry Wayne (Brenda), and Donald (Cris), all of Barberton; daughters, Jo Ann (Mark) Fletcher of Belpre, Hilda (Ted) Dietry of Norton, Glenda Denham of Smithville; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Gracie Carter of Sutton, W. Va.

Elizabeth A. Stark, 30, and her unseen angel, Symone Denay, passed away unexpectedly March 20, 1998.
She was born May 25, 1967 and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Dennis J. Stark, to whom she has been married seven years; daughter, Destinee Noelle; mother, Clea Hale; father, David Hale; sister and brother-in-law, Eileen (her closest friend) and Steve Poth; sister, Ginnie Hale and Jennifer Hale; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Tammie Hale, Brian and Caryn Hale and Bobby and Nikki Hale; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Teofila Largo Stark and Otis Stark, Sr., and will be missed by many family members and friends.
A 1985 graduate of Reimer Rd. Baptist Christian High School, Elizabeth and her husband lived the theme ``You and Me Against the World'' and shared special memories of him surprising her with a trip to Baltimore to see the dolphins. She loved life, was always considered ``the kindest soul'', loved to cook, spend time with her husband and daughter and always held Myrtle Beach in her heart as her very favorite place.

Charles L. Steele
Charles L. Steele, 61, of Diamond, died at home Saturday morning of apparent heart failure.
He was born May 28, 1936, in Akron, the son of Raymond H. and Anna (Mesko) Steele, and had lived in Diamond most of his life. In 1954, at the age of 18, he joined the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department. He was the fire inspector for Palymra Township. He was currently the president of the Portage County Fire Fighters Association. He had been a fire instructor, training local firefighters, and had a great love for teaching fire prevention to children. Mr. Steele had also been a Palmyra Township trustee. He attended the Leavittsburg Church of God. Following 27 years of service with Quaker State, he retired from the Pipeline Division.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carolyn S. (Sickle) Steele; sons, Randall W. and Russell D., both of Diamond; four grandchildren; his mother, Anna Steele, of Rootstown; brother, Pete of Edinburg; sister, Patsy Fox, of Randolph; and cousin, Mary King, of Atwater. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond H. Steele, and a grandson.

He was a life member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, a charter member of Norton Fire Department and Norton Lions Club, and a member of National Lodge 568 F&AM.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Abbie; sons, Forrest (Kandace) of Sterling, Roth (Nancy) of Barberton; grandchildren, Kim London, Jill Seifert, Steven Swain, Julie Swain, R. J. Swain, and Tom Swain; great-grandchildren, Kalie, Karla, Karie Seifert, and Aron and Aric London.
Funeral services Friday, 4 p.m., at Emanuel United Church of Christ, Pastor James D. Edwards officiating. Burial at Emanuel Church Cemetery. Esther Szabo, 81, of Ravenna, passed away Tuesday, March 24.
She and her husband Joseph had owned and operated Kent Jewelry; he preceded her in 1991.
She is survived by daughter, Cynthia Blum of Ravenna, and was also preceded by daughter, Sylvia Martin in 1989.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 3 p.m. at Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time. The family requests memorials to Robinson Memorial Hospital, Foundation Hospice. (Shorts, 296-6858.)
