Robert Hickmott Graef
Robert Hickmott Graef passed away Feb. 26, 1998, at University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev., after an extended illness. Mr. Graef was born Oct. 22, 1922, the youngest of three sons, to Harry H. Graef and Josephine Joy Graef, in Akron. He was retired from the Las Vegas Department of Public Health, where he worked as Public Health Inspector, and he also worked for many years for the Ford Motor Co. in Walton Hills, Ohio. He was a U. S. veteran, serving in the Army in World War II. He had four children from his first marriage. He later married Agnes Donaldson Dodd of West Virginia, and she preceded him in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John B. ``Jack'' Graef of Akron. He is survived by his children, Harriet Allen and husband, Carter, of Reston, Va., Joy Evans and husband, Richard, of Gainesville, Ga., Barbara Graef-Klukan and husband, Dennis, of Yakima, Wash., Robert H. Graef of Las Vegas, Nev.; his brother, Harry H. Graef II and wife, Jean, of Alexandria, Va., and their children, Harry H. III, Christine, and Julie; sister-in-law, Maxine Graef of Akron, and her children, Mary Jo, John, James, David, and Judy; grandsons, Eric Long, Andrew and Christopher Allen; granddaughter, Juliet Balas of Raleigh, N. C.; stepson, Ben Rader and wife, Linda, of Uniontown. A private graveside memorial service for the family will be held Saturday, March 7, 1998. Mr. Graef will be interred at the Chestnut Hills Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls. The family suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity. W. Douglas Grimm
W. Douglas Grimm went home to be with the Lord February 26, 1998 after a courageous battle with Cancer at the Ridgewood Hospice Care Center, Fairlawn. He was born in 1948 in Grafton, W. Va., to Watson and Kathleen Grimm, residing in Akron for the past four years. He was employed at Heilig-Meyers Furniture. Preceded in death by his father, Watson, and brothers, Steven and Joseph, he is survived by wife, Linda (Buchanan-Kory) Grimm; son, Scott and wife, Crystal; granddaughter, Chloe Grimm; mother, Kathleen and stepfather, Ralph Rice; brothers, Rodney and wife, Sandra, Bradley and his wife, Jean Rice; stepson, John, wife, Helen, grandchildren, Hope and Shawn Kory. Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Monday, March 2, 1998 at the Adams Mason Memorial Chapel (791 E. Market St.), where the family will receive friends 6 to 9 P.M. Sunday. James Guspodin
BARBERTON -- James Guspodin, 86, died Feb. 21, 1998 at Barberton Citizens Hospital. He was born in Yugoslavia and was a life resident of Barberton. He was the owner-operator of the Barberton Door and Window Service for 25 years, retiring 18 years ago. He was a World War II Army veteran. Survived by sons, James (Teresa) of Manchester, and Robert of Barberton; daughter, Carol (James) Haskell of Barberton; three grandchildren and two great-granchildren; sister, Mary Guspoden of Akron. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Hahn Funeral Home. Pastor John Mashek officiating. Internment Greenlawn Memorial Park. Paula A. Harden
Paula A. Harden, 44, of Alliance, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 1998, at the residence. Born in Kent on Aug. 28, 1953, to her parents, the late Paul and Mary (Clawson) Hucovsky, she lived most of her life in the Canton area. Survivors include sons, Earl D. Harden III and Paul J. Harden, both of Alliance, Ohio; and sister, Bette S. Kurena of Alliance. There are two grandsons also surviving. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no funeral service and, at the request of the family, her body has been cremated. Dessie Kay Hausman
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Dessie Kay Hausman, 85, passed away Feb. 20, 1998. Mrs. Hausman was born in Akron and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and sons, William and Robert, and is survived by her grandchildren, Cindy Nakagawa, Teri Edens, Pamela Friend, Shannon Hausman, Julie Fenstemaker, Jennell Hausman, Jennifer Morrison, and John Hausman; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Carol Hausman; and sister, Doris Lamm, both of Cuyahoga Falls. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, where a funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Rev. Esther (Sanyo) Heckman
Esther (Sanyo) Heckman, 69, died Feb. 20, 1998 from ovarian cancer. She is survived by her husband, Jim Heckman; daughter, Susan Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Patrice and Richard Vossler; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Heckman and Dermot Vaughan; grandchildren, Gregory Vossler, Stephanie Smith, Amelia Vaughan, Claire Vossler and Sorcha Vaughan; sister-in-law, Nancy Allen and her three children, Gary Allen, Becky Rowan, and Judi Allen and their families and all her good friends and neighbors. The memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 23, 1998 at 6 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, (1250 W. Exchange St., Akron). A reception will follow at the church. Laura M. Henry
Laura M. Henry, 96, passed away Feb. 18, 1998. She was born in Ford City, Pa., and lived most of her life in the Akron area. She was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church, and retired from the M. O'Neil Co. Preceded in death by husband of 53 years, James T., she is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Steve Banky of Cuyahoga Falls; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Donna Henry of Tampa, Fla., Donald and Kathryn Henry of Shepherdstown, W. Va.; nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at St. Martha's Catholic Church, 300 E. Elaine B. Heslop
Elaine B. Heslop, 78, died Feb. 26, 1998. Born in East Liverpool, she lived most of her life in Akron. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Akron Woman's City Club, Akron Garden Club, Portage Country Club, and was past president of Children's Hospital Women's Board. Preceded in death by son, Ned B.; and grandson, Brian E., Mrs. Heslop is survived by husband, Jack; son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Heslop; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Mark Jacobs; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and sister, Joyce Kraft. Phyllis Hickerson
Phyllis Hickerson, 71, died Feb. 26, 1998. Born in Akron, she had been a resident of Florida since 1992. She was actively involved with the Haven of Rest Ministries, and was a member of The Chapel. She is survived by her nephew, Daniel Livingston of Dublin, Ohio; niece, Carol Hawk of Eustis, Fla.; and great-nephew, Matthew Livingston. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. SATURDAY at Mt. Gerald W. Hider Sr.
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Gerald W. Hider Sr., 85, died Feb. 16, 1998. John Wade Higgins II
John Wade Higgins II, 86, died Feb. 19, 1998. Born in Roanoke, Ala., Mr. Higgins moved to Akron in 1915 and had lived in Cuyahoga Falls since 1957. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a 40-year member of Grandview United Methodist Church. He was a member of Joppa Lodge 666 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Akron, Yusef Khan Grotto, and the Consistory. Mr. Higgins retired in 1975 from Goodyear Aerospace and then worked at Rose Bowl Florist until 1991. Preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Moore; and grandchildren, Sheri and Andy, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty J. Higgins of Cuyahoga Falls; sons and daughters-in-law, John W. and Linda of Cincinnati, Rusty and Georgia of California, Michael S. and Becky of Cuyahoga Falls; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and cousin, Martha Tschantz. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MONDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 23rd Street at Falls Avenue, with Rev. Bruce Morrison officiating. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. BARBERTON -- Henrietta M. Hodgkinson, 84, died Feb. 26, 1998, at Barberton Citizens Hospital Skilled Nursing Pavillion. She was born in Washington, Pa., was a life resident of the Barberton-Akron area, and retired from Rockwell Manufacturing. She was a member of Reimer Road Baptist Church. Preceded in death by her brother, Neal Yerman, she is survived by sons, Bill (Hodge) and wife, K. T. Hodgkinson of Barberton, John R. Josef Holetz
Josef Holetz, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at the Hospice Care Center. He was born in Svilna, Croatia, came to the United States in 1951, and to Akron in 1953. He was employed by McNeil Corp. as a machinist for over 15 years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Mr. Holetz was preceded in death by his wife, Maria, in 1990, and is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Katharina and Mathias Habel of Tallmadge, Theresa and Josef Sensius of Green, and Anna and Robert Buynak of North Canton; nine grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Georgia A. Holt, 92, passed away Feb. 20, 1998. Mrs. Holt was born in Wayne County, Ohio, on Dec. 30, 1905. Anna L. Homa, 83, died unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998. She was born in Guernsey County, Ohio. She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, past president and member of the Ladies Guild, a member of the Rosary Society, taught religious education, worked bingo for many years, and was active in many church activities. Mrs. Homa was preceded in death by husband, George; brother, Andrew Liptak; sister, Marge Rongone; grandson, James A. Homa, and is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, George and Lois of Sagamore Hills, James and Nancy of Cuyahoga Falls; son, William and his dear friend, Lori, of Uniontown; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Bramel of Ft. Thomas Human
SEBRING, Fla. -- Thomas A. Human, 79, of Sebring, Fla., died Feb. 19, 1998. Born in Grassy Cove, Tenn., he was a resident of Akron from 1925 to 1985, when he retired to Sebring, Fla. He was an electrician for Goodyear and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ohio. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and attended Grace Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Human of Sebring; daughter, Cheryl Schlosser of Akron; son, Thomas E. Human of St. Petersburg; sisters, Dorothy Chappel of Atlanta, Alberta Corbin of Akron, Agnas Cooper of Barberton, Ellen Elsworth of Bandero, Texas, and Betty Jo Mitchell of Jonesboro, Ga.; brother, James D. Human of Barberton; and four grandchildren. No local services listed. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
