Dorothy Jane Malson
MUNROE FALLS -- Dorothy Jane Malson, 82, passed away April 12, 1998. Mrs. Malson was born in Coshocton, Ohio, and resided in Munroe Falls for over 30 years, moving there from Cuyahoga Falls. She was a retired cook from the cafeteria at Schnee School in Cuyahoga Falls, and was a member of the Twin Falls United Methodist Church in Munroe Falls. She graduated from Kenmore High School in 1932, where she was salutatorian and recipient of the Womanhood Cup. She had been a Girl Scout leader, was active in the Boy Scouts, and was an active volunteer at Sill Junior High School in Cuyahoga Falls. She was Mother-of-the-Year for Ohio University in 1961, was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and was active in A.A.R.P., Munroe Falls Historical Society, and the Quilting Group at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Preceded in death by her son, James Stanley Malson, she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard A. and Barbara Malson of Hudson, William M. and Denise Malson of North Canton, Robert F. and Candace Malson of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Janet Malson of Uniontown; sister, Gleneva Fisher of Cuyahoga Falls; brother-in-law, Louis Manning of Uniontown; and sister-in-law, Lena Hess of Springfield, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 TONIGHT, and one hour prior to service time Wednesday, at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls. Eugene P. Marinella
WADSWORTH/MEDINA -- Eugene P. Marinella, 79, died unexpectedly Friday, April 10, 1998, at Medina General Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, Mr. Marinella resided in Medina one and a half years, previously residing in Wadsworth for 21 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in Africa during World War II, and was employed at Sears and Roebuck in Middleburg Heights and Medina. He was also an auctioneer, and a school crossing guard in Wadsworth for ten years. Mr. Marinella was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Pittsburgh Kiwanis Club, and V.F.W. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Eagles Club, and Road Runners Club of Medina, and a Golden Glove Ring Announcer. A friend to all, and in our hearts forever, Mr. Marinella is survived by wife, Betty; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene ``Chip'' and Harriet of Alaska, John and Maggie of Orrville, Mark and Becky of Dayton; daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Tom Slack, and Jane and John Millard, all of Cleveland, Sharon Meredith of Seville; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Mary Lou Scarano and Eleanor Venturino, both of Pittsburgh. Paul Martin
Paul Martin, 57, of Coventry, went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Grace; stepsons, Keith Brockley, Rodney Brockley, Allen Nichols, and Larry Nichols; stepdaughters, Kathy Paglia, Penny Pierce, and Effie Nichols. Robert P. Martin
Robert P. Martin passed on to a more peaceful life on March 31, 1998. Born August 2, 1926, he was a lifetime resident of Bath, Ohio. Preceded in death by parents, Mary Katherine and Earl Jacob; he is survived by brother, Donald (Gladys) of Bath; sisters, Jeannette Allen of Cuyahoga Falls, and Karen (Henry) Swanson of Bath; nephews, Erik Swanson of Superior, Colorado, Dale Martin of Bath, Allen (Kim) Martin of Penninsula; nieces, Jennifer (Brian) Martin of Cuyahoga Falls, and Kim (Mike) Hess of Norton; two grandnieces and one grandnephew; and cousins. Robert was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the Army. He worked in the printing-photography business for many years and was a very talented artist and photographer. His many other talents included cooking and baking, creating many of his own recipes which he shared with his sisters. He was knowledgeable on the history of Bath Township and had co-authored several articles for the Bath Township Historical Society. Many outstanding vegetables and flowers were grown in his gardens which he lovingly harvested to share with family, friends and neighbors. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Silvio G. Martini
Silvio G. Martini, 61, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 9, 1998, at his home. He was born in Republic, Pa., and had been an Akron area resident since 1962. He was employed by the American Vehicle Corp. as a supervisor for over 21 years, was previously employed by Hamlin Steel Products, and was a veteran of the Marines during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Martini is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jacqueline; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kimberly of Akron; grandchildren, Jason Martini, and Cale and Tyson Barrone; great-grandchild, Rebecca Lynn Spicer; brothers, Tom and Sonny Malachin, both of Youngstown; sisters, Toots, Rita, Francis, and Ann Marie of Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, with Rev. Mr. Frank Lonteen officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. John F. Mazur
John F. Mazur, 49, passed away suddenly April 6, 1998, after a courageous battle with heart disease. John was a graduate of East High School, and attended the University of Akron. A lifetime resident of Akron and a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U. S. Army, he was employed with C.S.X. Railroad for more than 30 years. Preceded in death by his father, Walter Mazur, he is survived by his son, Jonathan Mazur; mother and stepfather, Hazel and Jack Canary; siblings, Ron and Don Canary; niece, Kristin Canary; and many friends. John was an avid Springfield High School Spartan football and baseball fan. He took great pride in watching his son, Jon Mazur, excel in these sports, and was proud that Jon accepted an athletic scholarship to Bowling Green State University for this coming fall. A private funeral service will be held at Hillside Memorial Park. There will be no calling hours. Dorothy McGhee
Dorothy J. McGhee, 76, died April 9, 1998. Born in Wampum, Pa., she had been a resident of Cuyahoga Falls for most of her life. She worked at Goodyear Aerospace during World War II, and had retired from the B. F. Goodrich Tire & Rubber Co. Mrs. McGhee was a member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ. Preceded in death by her husband, David R. ``Mac'' McGhee; and brother, Robert Leight, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David and Shirley, and Mark and Diane, all of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Heidi, Michael, and Michelle. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MONDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, corner of 23rd and Falls Avenue., with Dr. Michael Thomas of the Falls Baptist Temple officiating. Donald E. McIntire
WADSWORTH -- Donald E. McIntire, 85, passed away Monday, April 6, 1998, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. McIntire resided in Wadsworth 45 years, where he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Rotary Club. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Mr. McIntire joined B. F. Goodrich in 1940 as a field accountant, and since then he served as traveling auditor, manager of accounting at the DuBois, Pa., and Miami, Okla., plants, manager of the coast department, chief manufacturing accountant for the industrial products division, treasurer of BFG's Australian subsidiary, corporate manager of budget administration in Akron, and director of accounting services before retiring in 1975 as assistant controller. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Betty), with whom he enjoyed 56 years of marriage; sisters-in-law, Catherine Bachman of Akron, Magel McIntire of Virginia; nieces and nephews, Cathy and Ron Smith of Albuquerque, N. M., Susan and Steve Braun and John McIntire, all of Virginia. He was preceded in death by parents, Burrell and Laura; and brother, John. Frank McIntyre
Frank McIntyre, 80, died March 29, 1998. Mr. McIntyre was born in Akron and was a life resident. A member of the Akron Turner Club and V.F.W. Firestone Post 3383, American Legion Dale Bradley Post, he retired from the Norton Public School System, Loyal Oak School, and from B. & W., and was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. Preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, he is survived by his son, William Severns of Coventry; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Elaine McIntyre of Akron; grandchildren, William Jr. and Christine; and great-grandson, Zachary. Dorothy L. McKay
Dorothy L. McKay, 89, of 431 High St., West Milton, Pa., a resident of Akron for many years, died April 10, 1998 at West Milton, Pa. Preceded in death by her husband, John C.; she was a graduate of Hammel Business College. She was a 40 year employee of the General Tire Company, retiring in 1973 as executive secretary to the Vice-President. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Akron, and The Generettes. Dorothy collected Royal Doulton figurines, and enjoyed playing cards and flower arranging. Surviving is a daughter, Bonna D. Bodosi of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Carol Haley, Gale Green, with whom she lived, and Gilbert C. Green; nine great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls. Verna E. McKibben
Verna E. (Cote) McKibben, 86, departed this earthly life to rejoin her family on April 11, 1998, after a brief illness. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. McKibben resided in the Akron/Cuyahoga Falls area for several years. She was a member of the Akron Woman's City Club. Preceded in death by her husband, Orville G. (Mac) McKibben; brother, George M. Cote; and parents, Marcellin and Alice Cote, Verna will be sadly missed by her friends who regarded her as a very friendly, but private person. She will be remembered for her humor, quick wit, and honesty. By her request, there will be no calling hours. Earle W. Means
CUYAHOGA FALLS--Earle W. Means 77, passed away April 5, 1998. Mr. Means was born in Punxsutawney, PA. and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls his entire life, graduating from Cuyahoga Falls high school in June of 1939. He retired in 1983 as general foreman of the Power Plant and stationary engineer for B.F. Goodrich with over 40 years services. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy as chief petty officer in the South Pacific. He was founder of the Cuyahoga Falls Jaycees and a member of the American Legion Charles Faust Post 281. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen A. (Kunkler); son and daughter-in-law Terrence and Louise Means of Jonesboro, TN.; daughter, Mary Means of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren Mindy and Matthew Means and sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and George Stanley of Kent. Lillian A. Melch, of Richfield, 84, was the beloved wife of James A.; dear mother of Marilyn Davis, Lenore McCracken, and the late Janice Biddle; grandmother of Gary Davis, Karen Brown, Laura Storm, Vicki Honoski, and Amy McCracken; great-grandmother of Heather, Jon, and Lauren Davis, Jana Honoski, and Matt Brown; sister of the late Marie Lages. Angela Merz
Angela Merz of Akron, beloved wife, mother and grandmother went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 1998. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert C. Merz; sons, Michael Terry Merz and Robert Lynn (Cheryl) Merz; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. ``Thank you for the wonderful memories.'' Gerhard (Gary) Mettke
A memorial service for Gerhard (Gary) Mettke, 40, of Cuyahoga Falls, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Northlawn Cemetery MAUSOLEUM, where the family will receive friends Saturday from 12 noon until service time. Gary died Saturday in El Paso, Texas. Opal L. Midcap
Opal L. Midcap, 80, of Navarre, passed away Thursday morning following a sudden illness. Born January 20, 1918, in Wetzel County, W. Va., to the late D. B. and Ardela Shepherd, Mrs. Midcap was a member of Grace Cathedral in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for 43 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Cloyd Midcap, in 1993; a daughter, Marlene Rice; and a granddaughter, Donna Hinkle. Survivors include three sons, Warren Midcap of Akron, Ronald Midcap of Munroe Falls, and Dudley Midcap of Canton; five daughters, Patricia Myers of Navarre, Carol Cross of Canton, Charlene Keller of Kennesaw, Ga., Rose Jackson of Canton, and Inez Diehl of Greentown, Ohio; three sisters; one brother; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Albert ``Bud'' Miller
Albert ``Bud'' Miller, 78, passed away Sunday, April 12, 1998. He was born July 15, 1919, in Akron, the son of Elmer and Mary (Hughes) Miller. Mr. Miller was retired from Burger Iron as an operating engineer. He served his country during World War II in the Army. Preceded in death by daughter, Marsha Fox; and grandson, Brian Fox, he is survived by wife, Dorothy; children, Alberta (Jim) Klinger, Dennis (Darnell) Miller, Kenneth (Becky) Miller, and Robert Miller; stepchildren, Janeen (Gene) Brewer and Linda Putnam; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Myers and Rebecca McClaskey; brother, Joe Miller; and special friend, June. Jerry H. Miller, 78, passed away April 12, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Miller was born in Milan, Ohio, and came to Akron in 1941. A veteran, he served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was employed at Davis Printing Co. prior to his retirement, and was a member of Fairlawn West United Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Rhea; daughter, Kathleen Miller of Memphis, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, James and Margy Miller of Anacortes, Wash.; son, Craig and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Miller of Esondido, Calif.; son, Robert Miller of Honduras, Central America; grandchildren, Garret, Gretchen, and Hayden; sister, Lois Miller Bates of Akron; and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. WEDNESDAY, April 15, at Fairlawn West United Church of Christ, with Rev. David Loar officiating. Roddye W. Miller Sr.
Roddye W. Miller Sr., 59, died April 10, 1998. He was a lifetime resident of Akron, retired from the Chrysler Corp., and was a member of U.A.W. Local 122. Preceded in death by sisters, Virginia Solomon and Norma Jean Mason, he is survived by wife, Emma; daughters, Roblyn, Angie, Alisa Miller, and Michelle Edwards; son, Roddye W. Jr. (and Valerie); stepchildren, Elissa Harris, Michael Williams, Christopher Harris of Pennsylvania; parents, Lawrence and Ora L. Ronald D. Mitchell, 62, passed away April 14, 1998. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Mitchell had retired from the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. with 25 years service, and was a U. S. Army veteran. He is survived by his sons, Ronald Mitchell and Jeffrey Mitchell; mother, Dolores Mitchell; sisters, Shirley Dunlap and Patricia Mitchell; brothers, Richard Mitchell, all of Akron, Robert Mitchell of Rochester, N. Rufus J. Montgomery Jr., 61, of Canton, departed this life Wednesday, April 1, 1998, after a short illness. He was born in Charlotte, N. C. He resided in Canton. He was formerly employed by Continental Express Trucking Co. He served in the U. S. Air Force. Rufus was preceded in death by father, Rufus J. Montgomery Sr.; mother, Mildred E. Montgomery. Stanley A. Moore
Stanley A. Moore, 82, passed away April 6, 1998. Born in Maude, W. Va., he was a World War II Army veteran, serving with the 2nd Signal Battalion. Mr. Moore retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in 1975, and was a member of Hillwood Chapel and V.F.W. Post 9904. Preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Margaret, he is survived by his daughter, Pat (John) Will; grandchildren, Todd (Sherri) Buck and Tara Buck; stepgrandchildren, John Will Jr., Vicki Guljas, and Rob (Vicky) Will; stepgreat-grandchildren, Andy, Sam, Lindsay, and Gregg; and sister, Helen Davidson. Funeral services Friday, 10 a.m., at the Eckard-Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., Rev. Rufus Hofelt II officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park, where a V.F.W. graveside service will be held. MUNROE FALLS -- Wilma Morris, 66, passed away Thursday, April 23, 1998, at her home, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband, William; children, Phillip Davis, Barbara (James) Orr, Gary (Linda) Davis, Dennis ``Ricky'' (Barbara) Davis, Tina Davis, Joel (Mary) Davis, Linda (Don) Romine, Dee Ann Morris, Michael (Tammy) Morris, Erika Davis and Dakota Johnson; four brothers, two sisters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at ADAMS-MASON MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 791 E. Market St., Akron, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Rev. Cheryll McLeland Murawski
Cheryll McLeland Murawski went to be with the Lord on March 28, 1998. She died suddenly, at age 50, in her home in Gastonia, N. C. She had been a manager at Southern Bell in Charlotte and Gastonia until their closing, and was currently employed at the Carolinas Telco Credit Union. Cheryll was also actively involved in the Parkwood Baptist Church in Gastonia. Cheryll leaves her husband of 29 years, John S. Murawski; her precious daughter, Jennifer Joyce Murawski of Washington, D. C.; her parents, Joseph and Rita McLeland; her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Vince Meeker; brother, Timothy McLeland, all of Ohio. She also leaves many relatives, loved ones, and her very special friend, and her beloved ``Cookie.'' Friends may call Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Redmon Funeral Home, where Rev. Henry Muren
WESTFIELD CTR. -- Henry Muren, 91, died April 1, 1998, at Fairview Hospital. He was born in Germany and was a resident of Westfield Center for the past 11 years, previously of Barberton. Henry was owner and operator of Hilltop Floral Shoppe and also Muren Plastics. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also the K of C Council 1617, and K.S.K.J. Lodge 110. He was preceded in death by wife, Angela. He is survived by sons, Henry (Natalie) of Barberton, Albin (Suzanne) of Chagrin Falls, John (Patricia) of Mesa, Ariz., and Daniel of Akron; daughter, Mrs. Angela (Gilberto) Maldonado of Cleveland; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and brother, Joze of Yugoslavia. Funeral services will be Saturday, 9:30 a.m., at the Hahn Funeral Home, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Albert Kunkel, celebrant. John H. Murphy, Jr.
John H. Murphy, Jr., age 40, died April 1, 1998, as the result of an auto accident. Born in Clarksburg, W. Va., he lived in Akron for 36 years. He most recently resided in Burton City and was employed by Kidron, Inc. as a welder. He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Murphy, Sr.; survivors include his parents, Marilyn and Don Rogers of Akron; brother, Andy of Akron; sons, Ben of Atwater and Jonathan of East Greenville; as well as many relatives and friends.
