Louise A. Maiorca, 77, of Akron, passed away April 20, 1998. Louise retired from Saalfield Publishing Co., and was a member of St. Francis DeSales Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Domenic; and son, Matthew, and is survived by daughters, Concetta (Bob) Maiorca Rambacher and Gladys Taylor; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, of Akron; sisters, Ann and Sarah; and brother, Carmine, all of New York. Orla Marks (Todd-Macabe)
STOW -- Orla Marks, 90, has left this life to join family and friends on the other side. She was born Aug. 10, 1907, in Burritts Rapids, Ontario, Canada, and left us on April 17, 1998. She was predeceased by her husbands, Charles Macabe and Frank Marks; sons, Kenneth and William Macabe; twin brother, James Todd; sister, Betty Grant; and grandson, James Macabe. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Phylis (Joe) Berthelot of Stow; Olive (Mike) Morrell of Garden Grove, Calif.; daughters, Margaret Lisuk of Detroit, Mich., Frances Harrington of Charleston, S. C.; Carol Marks of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Michael (Monica) Berthelot of Warren, N. J., Patricia Berthelot of Stow, Sandi (Dave) Peterson of Zimmerman, Minn., Vicki Rocco of Los Angeles, Calif., Patrick Morrell of Garden Grove, Calif., Susie (Dave) Barbret of Seattle, Wash., Colleen Lisuk of Detroit, Mich., Steven Neese of Dallas, Texas, Brian Neese of Akron, Todd Marks of Phoenix, Ariz., William Macabe Jr. of Lake Elsinore, Calif., plus several others in California and Nevada. She worked for Awrey Bakeries in Detroit, Mich., retiring in 1972 and moving to the Akron area. She was an ordained spiritualist minister and had her own church in Kent for several years. She enjoyed this work very much. One of her greatest pleasures was driving all over the United States and she made several cross-country trips by herself after the age of 70. Cremation has taken place. Interment at Grandlawn Cemetery in Detroit, Mich. A memorial service at Redmon Funeral Home will be held at a later date, with Rev. Tim Brainard officiating. Candace K. Marrone, 43, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998. Preceded in death by mother, Lillian, she is survived by her father, Ernest Schmeltzer and his dear friend, Jan Mottice; daughters, Melissa (Gregory) Schreiner of Sharon Center, Jennifer (Paul) Carroll of Ft. Worth, Texas; sisters, Sunny (Jon) Marrone of Sharon Center and Lynne (Gary) Black of Wadsworth; and many nieces and nephews. No visitation. Private funeral service. Robert M. Marshall
Robert M. Marshall, 80, was born in Newborn, Ga., on August 26, 1917, to Rose and Harvey Gilbert. He passed away at Rockynol Nursing Home April 18, 1998, after a long illness. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in War World II, and was an all-around family man and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He worked as a set-up operator and Steward for Grievance for Nelmore Manufacturing Company, and also worked for Syncor Pharmaceutical Company. He was a member of Nelmore Credit Union and Parkwood C.M.E. Church in Cleveland, Ohio. He is survived by his devoted wife, Katherine; daughters, India Key, both of Cleveland, and Sandra Stubbs of Akron; mother-in-law, Delia Hanson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Katherine Hanson of Cleveland; grandchildren, London Margerum, Vashon Davis, Michele (Brian) Cooke of Akron, Lisa (Cedric) Anderson of Virginia, Malaika Stubbs of North Carolina, Nouvelle Stubbs of Akron, and Linda Jackson of Akron; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, Rev. Andrew Newberry officiating. Interment at Highland View Cemetery. Gerald D. Martin
Gerald D. Martin, 68, passed away April 26, 1998. Born in Akron, he was a U. S. Navy veteran, and had worked at various funeral homes in the Akron area for over 38 years. Mr. Martin was a member of Akron Eagles 555 and American Legion Post 449. Preceded in death by his wife, Pat; and son, Doug, he is survived by cousins and many friends. James Martin
James Martin, 95, died April 16, 1998, at Akron City Hospital, after a long illness. He was a resident of Ohio for more than 70 years, and retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by daughter, Robia Key, and leaves, to mourn his passing, daughters, Gloria (Odell) Rigby, Pola (Beauford) Jeffries, Connie (Roland) Walker, Sigar Martin, Elizabeth Lander, and Rosetta (James) Toles. Services will be held Monday, April 20, 1998, at 1 p.m., at Arlington Church of God, the Rev. Dr. Ronald Fowler officiating. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery. Mary Lou (Ambrose) Martz, 40, of Akron, passed away April 20. Mrs. Martz was born in Barberton and lived in the area all of her life. She was a member of the Wintergreen Ledges Church of God, and had worked as a barmaid at Bank Lounge. Preceded in death by her father, Richard Ambrose; and brothers, Bruce and Richard Ambrose, she is survived by children, Nicole and Joseph; mother, Ethel Ambrose; brothers, David Ambrose of Barberton, Roger W. Ambrose of Clinton, and George Ambrose of Florida. Funeral services at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd., Friday at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jim Roma officiating. John J. Maslak
RITTMAN -- John J. Maslak, 74, died April 22, 1998 at Akron General Medical Center. He was a retired employee of the Packaging Corporation of America. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and RAWIGA Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his mother, Mary Maslak of Rittman; son, John D. Maslak of Oberlin; daughter, Nancy (Pete) Lovrak of Rittman; two grandsons; brother, Carl (Cecilia) Maslak of Rittman. Emma Caroline McAdams
Emma Caroline McAdams, 107, died Friday at Altercare of Alliance. She was born February 6, 1891, in Robinson, Pa., the daughter of John and Caroline (Cable) Foust, and had lived in Pennsylvania before moving to Akron in 1981. Mrs. McAdams lived in Akron from 1981 until 1994. Survivors include a son, Richard Zack of Indiana, Pa.; daughter, Dorothy Tibensky of Randolph; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter McAdams; son, Ashley Buffington; daughter, Betty Olson; grandson, Edward Dunmire; and granddaughter, Mallory Tibensky. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hillside Cemetery Chapel in Randolph, Pastor Dan Michaels officiating. Contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the Chapel in Marlboro. Boyd A. McClellan, 85, passed away April 27, 1998 after a battle with lung cancer. CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Molly A. McGrady-Phillips, 46, died April 23, 1998. Born in Cleveland, she was a lifetime area resident, living in Stow 11 years before recently moving to Cuyahoga Falls. An art teacher at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, she was actively involved in various activities at the school, including the Venture Grant Program, Peer Listening, Conflict Mediation, Interact Program, FAC Committee, and STA. She is survived by husband of 14 years, Robert; stepsons, Eric (Carol) Phillips of North Canton, Shawn Phillips of Lakewood, Ohio; four stepgrandchildren; stepfather, Grant Shipley of Barberton; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Frank Force of Florida; brother, Timothy McGrady of California; nieces, Amber, Avery, and Amanda Force; aunt and uncle, Charles and Rita Venetta of Orlando, Fla. Carrie Bell Merritt
Carrie Bell Merritt departed this earthly life April 20, 1998, at Akron City Hospital. She was born July 23, 1919, in Meridian, Miss., to the late Elder Mitchell and Sarah DeBruce. She lived in Akron since 1946 and worked at Akron City Hospital until she retired. Mrs. Merritt leaves, to mourn, husband, Preston Merritt Sr.; sons, Bennie Easter, Preston Merritt Jr., and Rodney (Bennie) Merritt; daughters, Fannie Mae Easter and Treacy L. Merritt; brothers, Rev. James DeBruce of Moultrie, Ga., and M. C. (Jessie Pearl) DeBruce of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Fannie Bell Terry of Akron, Mattie Bell Keys and Lillie Bell Giles of Moultrie, Ga. Special grandchildren are Michael Easter, Deigo Merritt, Ranada and Sharita Merritt; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. Freda A. Migdal
Freda A. Migdal, 84, died Sunday, April 26, 1998. She was born in Canton, Ohio and was a resident of Akron since 1960. She was a former bookkeeper for Bon Marche department store and Five Points Glass. She was a member of Anshe Sfard Synagogue and its Sisterhood, longtime member of the choir, lifetime member of Hadassah, past president of O.R.T., J.C.C. of Akron, and past president of the Senior Adults. Preceded in death by husband, Joseph Migdal; parents, Morris and Ida Freed; sister and brother-in-law, Dora and Sam Adelman; brother-in-law, Max Glaser; stepson, Dr. Elliott Migdal; and grandson, Kerry Migdal; she is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Herb Schwartz of Honolulu, Hawaii; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard and Rena Vesler of Columbus, Ohio; stepson and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Rhoda Migdal of Akron; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Frances Freed of Kokomo, Ind.; sister, Bettie Glaser of San Diego, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Irving Fidelholtz of Canton; also nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Edwin W. Miller
NORTON -- Edwin W. Miller, 90, died April 20, 1998, at Rittman Nursing Center. Edwin was born in Canton, was director of the Huron Road Hospital for 20 years, and was previously assistant director and chief pharmacist at Akron City Hospital for 15 years. Edwin was a graduate of Case Western Reserve, was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Billows Chapter, and was a member of the Uniontown Lions Club. He was preceded in death by wife, Rose R.. He is survived by daughters, MaryJo (Albert) Miller of Norton, Penny J. (Gary) Richardson of Montana; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth, Section 31, Rev. Jonathan Knight officiating. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. NO CALLING HOURS. Frederick P. Milo
Frederick P. Milo, 53 years, of Akron, died April 11, 1998. Fred was a graduate of Buchtel High School and Akron University. Fred was a very loving husband and father, and is survived by wife, Kathleen of Bath Twp.; sons, Christopher of Boston, Mass., Gregory of Nashville, Tenn., and Peter at home; mother, Katina; and sister and brother-in-law, Sophie and Lonnie Curtis, all of Bath. Carl W. Moll
KENT -- Carl W. Moll, 73, of Berkley Avenue, died Saturday, April 25, at his home. He was born June 17, 1924, in Cleveland, to Leopold and Mary (Stalzer) Moll. He was a World War II Army veteran and retired in 1986 after 36 years with RB&W where he worked as a packer. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church. Survivors include his sons, Carl Lee Moll, Lawrence James Moll, Edward Michael Moll and Jeffery Allen (Lynn) Moll, all of Kent; three grandchildren, one great-grandson; sister, Loretta Steiner of Twinsburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann (Strayer) in 1987; sister, Doris Cook in 1965; and brother-in-law, Myron Steiner in 1986. Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bissler and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church. MUNROE FALLS -- Wilma Morris, 66, passed away Thursday, April 23, 1998, at her home, after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband, William; children, Phillip Davis, Barbara (James) Orr, Gary (Linda) Davis, Dennis ``Ricky'' (Barbara) Davis, Tina Davis, Joel (Mary) Davis, Linda (Don) Romine, Dee Ann Morris, Michael (Tammy) Morris, Erika Davis and Dakota Johnson; four brothers, two sisters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at ADAMS-MASON MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 791 E. Market St., Akron, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Rev. Margaret Mary ``Peggy'' Muro
Margaret Mary ``Peggy'' Muro, 76, of Bradenton, Fla., died April 28, 1998. Born August 21, 1921 in Akron, Ohio, she moved to Bradenton in 1989 from Coral Springs, Fla. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She also has lived in seven different countries throughout Latin America. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank P. and Mary (Youngs) Rooney, and her aunt, Myrtle Youngs. She is survived by her husband, Larry; a son, Robert of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Mary Splude of Milwaukee, Wisc.; and four grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes, 26th St. Chapel in Bradenton is in charge.
