Roddy Joseph Adelman
Roddy Joseph Adelman, 53, died Monday, May 4, at Magnolia Care Center in Wadsworth, after a prolonged illness.
A 1964 graduate of Central High School, Roddy had worked for several years with the Chrysler Corp.
Preceded in death by his father, Marcus Adelman, Roddy leaves behind his mother, Joan Gerber of Akron; brothers, Richard (Delores) Adelman, Mark (Ella) Adelman, David (Marcia) Adelman; sisters, Marilyn Hughes, Doris (Bill) Watts, and Theresa (Ron) Jones. Roddy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the people of Hospice, especially Karen, Maria, and Bill, for their constant love, support and understanding. A very special ``thanks you'' to Sandy Wellman of Magnolia Care, who has been a constant companion to Roddy during his last five months. She is a very special person.

Mrs. Allrutz was born in Williamstown, Pa., and was a homemaker.

ARIZONA -- Hazel B. Anderson, born January 20, 1902, died May 15, 1998.
Born in Akron, she resided in Arizona for 30 years. She was founder and part-owner of Westpoint Market, and a charter member of Sun City Country Club.
She was preceded in death by husband, Harry Anderson; brother, Kenneth Sheffler; daughter, Beverly; grandson, Jack Anderson Jr.; and granddaughter, Tracey Porter. She is survived by sons, Jack and Harry, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was born in Akron, and retired from Paine Webber Inc. in 1994 with 35 years service. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and a veteran of the Air Force.

Helen L. Appel
Helen L. Appel, 98, formerly of Kent, died Sunday at the Aurora Manor Care Center, following a year of failing health.
Born June 7, 1899, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Harry and Edith Swain. Mrs. Appel had lived in Kent for over 50 years, and retired from Davey Tree.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Eshelman of Beloit; granddaughters, Marilyn Mercer of Alliance and Julie Fairbanks of Akron; six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by husband, Roy, in 1971; daughter, Shirley Guilfoil, in 1994; grandson, Jeffrey Eshelman, in 1991; brothers, Wilton and Harry Swain; and sister, Marian Fadeley.

Ralph H. Ayers of Fairlawn passed away May 8, 1998, after a long and happy retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 54-plus years, Marilyn; daughter, Mary Lou Derthick of Akron; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Jim Ferguson of Whitewater, Colo.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister, Mary E. Stahl of Ravenna; and brother, Ted of Arizona.
Mr. Ayers was a World War II veteran and was last employed at Atlas Fluid Components, retiring in 1983. His past several winters were spent first in Tennessee and then Colorado, where Jim taught him to ride horses at age 69.

WADSWORTH -- Leda P. Birow, 83, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Altercare of Wadsworth, after a six-month illness.
Born and raised in Wadsworth, Mrs. Birow resided in Akron for 15 years after her marriage. She then moved to Copley before returning to Wadsworth for the past five years. She was an assistant at Akron Veterinary for four years, and previously employed at the Ohio Match Co. She and her husband raised and bred Airedales, and were 50-year members of the Rubber City Kennel Club. She also enjoyed reading.
Mrs. Birow is survived by husband, Steve; brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Joy Presznick of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Gloria E. Birow of Los Angeles; nephew, great-nieces, and a great-nephew. She was preceded in death by brother, Joe.

Dr. J. William Bohley, M.D.
NORTON -- Dr. John William Bohley M.D., 70, died May 6, 1998, at Barberton Citizens Hospital.
Bill was born in Cleveland, attended Cathedral Latin High School and Case Western Reserve Pre-Med. Dr. Bohley served in a MASH unit during the Korean Conflict, and graduated from Ohio State Medical College in 1959. He practiced in the Portage Lakes area in family practice for a few years, before specializing in anesthesia. He joined the association of Barberton Anesthesiologists in 1969, and retired in 1989.
Dr. Bohley will be sadly missed by his wife of 40 years, Gwen; his children, daughter, Maribeth Bohley of Tijeras, N.M.; sons, William (Kathy) of Akron, Dr. Michael (Julie) of Portland, Ore., and Thomas of Tijeras, N.M. Also surviving are four beloved grandchildren, Caitlin, Amy, Ian, and Connor. He leaves behind a brother, Thomas (Dolores) of Canal Fulton; sisters, Cathy (Dan) Simko of Hinckley, and Mary Ann Moorman of Olmsted Falls; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends who loved to hear ``Bill'' tell a good story.

CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Harry A. (Mike) Briggs, 75, died May 11, 1998.
Mr. Briggs was born in Altoona, Pa., and resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1957, moving there from Altoona, Pa. He retired in 1983 as a letter carrier for the Cuyahoga Falls Postmaster, with 24 years service, was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army, and was a member of D.A.V. Stadelman Chapter 35.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice M.; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Sam Simmerman of N. Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Susan of Streetsboro, James and Sharon of Stow, Richard and Renee of Springfield, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; brother, Samuel of Easton, Conn.; and sister, Pauline Briggs of Venice, Fla.

Born in Boley, Okla., in 1918, Asa, at the age of two, was brought to Akron by his parents, Vergie and Euel. He grew up in Akron, attending Robinson Grade School and East High School. During World War II, he served in the Navy. After raising his family, he retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. with 40 years of service.
Preceded in death by the mother of his children, Lillian; son, Dennis; and daughters, Kay and Virginia, he is survived by wife, Wanda; sons, James, David, and Timothy; daughter, Beverly; stepdaughters, Janet and Ginger; and beloved sister, Vera.

Eloise A. Busson
Eloise A. Busson died at Barberton Citizens Hospital on Sunday, May 10, following a courageous battle with kidney and heart disease.
Throughout her life she was dedicated to her family, her faith, and her chosen field of education. She was born in Norton on June 21, 1919, to Ethel (Miller) and Carl Hummel. After graduating from Doylestown High School, she attended Kent State University and began teaching. She later returned to Kent where she completed her degree in 1967. She taught ten years in the Norton Schools and while raising her family, taught 21 years at Hazel Harvey Elementary in Doylestown.
On June 1, 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Ralph J. Busson, he died May 8, 1997. Together they were the loving parents of five daughters, Ann (Dale) Youngblood, Alice (Bob) Rote, Mary Kay (Joe) Hajek, Laurie (John) Farlow, all of Doylestown, and Jane (Kerry) Cullin of Lodi. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, D. J., Matt, and Katy Youngblood, Mike, Shannon, and Marie Rote, Karen (Mrs. Scott) Steen, Ken, Beth and Mary Jo Hajek, Jennifer and Jon Musgrave, and Kipp Cullin. She is also survived by her special aunt, Mabelle Lowry of Norton, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins of whom she was extremely fond. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Leonard Hummel, and her grandson Zachary Cullin.
Mrs. Busson was a lifetime member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Doylestown, where she taught Sunday school, played the piano, and was a member of the Women's Guild. She was also active in the Women's Auxiliary of the Doylestown American Legion, where she served as president. She was also a member of the Wayne County Retired Teacher's Association. She served on the Doylestown Bicentennial and Sesquicentennial committees. She received the Citizen-of-the-Year award during the 1977 Doylestown Sesquicentennial Celebration. She and Ralph were active in the 82nd Airborne Association.

PHOENIX -- Mary E. Shaffer Bycura passed away May 7, 1998, in Phoenix.
She is survived by daughters, Sandra Miller, Carolyn Blough, and Julie Spangler; and son, Joseph Bycura, all of Phoenix; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Klusty of Clinton, Ohio; and brother, Glen Shaffer of Wadsworth, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Paradise Chapel in Phoenix, Ariz. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association or Cancer Society.
