V. Jay Einhart
V. Jay Einhart, retired labor relations attorney, died May 3, 1998, at Parma Community General Hospital. He had suffered a post-cardiac arrest at home the morning of April 30. Born in Weymouth, Ohio, on April 18, 1922, son of Leland and Mae Griswold Einhart, he graduated from Medina High School in 1940. He attended Adelbert College of Western Reserve University from 1940 to 1942, when he was inducted into the Army. He returned to Adelbert College in January 1946 and transferred to the School of Law as a senior in absentia in September 1946, and graduated cum laude from Adelbert College in 1947 with a BBA degree. He graduated from the School of Law of Western Reserve University in 1948, and passed the Ohio State bar examination in 1948, prior to graduation from law school. Inducted into the Army on Sept. 12, 1942, he became chief clerk of an ordnance supply headquarters with the rank of master sergeant. He spent about 30 months in New Guinea and Manila, and was discharged in 1946. After graduation from law school, he was associated with the law firm of Stanley, Smoyer & Schwartz in Cleveland. This firm specialized in representing management in labor relations matters. In January 1965, he became a partner in the firm, and in January 1973, the firm name was changed to Schwartz, Einhart & Simerka. He loved music and enjoyed playing trumpet as a young person. In 1983, he suffered a detached retina, making bright lights and sun difficult to tolerate. This curtailed many activities he could have enjoyed. He especially missed playing his favorite sport, golf. With sensitive eye covered, he still enjoyed reading. His main recreation in later years became sports on TV and dining at his favorite restaurants. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Betty; father-in-law, George Morse; sister, Helen (Carrolton) Riehm; three nephews, one niece. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St., Rev. Dr. Christopher Atwood officiating, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. Irvin H. ``Duke'' Elmore
ELLET-- Irvin H. ``Duke'' Elmore, 89, passed away May 1, 1998. Born in Gastonia, N.C., he was a life resident of the Akron area. Mr. Elmore retired in 1971 after 39 years of service with Goodyear Tire & Rubber and Goodyear Aerospace. A member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, Adoniram Lodge 517 F&AM, and Yusef Khan Grotto, he was a loving father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed. Preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, in 1997, he is survived by son, Gary (Karen) Elmore of Glendale, Ariz.; daughter, Linda (Leland) Magnuson of Uniontown; grandchildren, Lora Magnuson and husband, Bill Miller of Atlanta, Ga., Eric Magnuson of Uniontown, Brian and Kelly Elmore, both of Glendale, Ariz.; brother, Cecil Elmore of Maryland; and sisters, Mildred Elmore and Myrtle Campbell, both of North Carolina, and Geneva Thorton of Maryland. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Ave., Akron, with Pastors David Frees and Cathleen Bunting officiating. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park. Chester ``Chet'' F. Eshbaugh
Chester ``Chet'' F. Eshbaugh, 75, passed away May 8, 1998, at the Arbors of Fairlawn. He worked for Goodyear Aerospace and Loral for 34 years. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Washington. He loved to walk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lula Eshbaugh; previous wife, Pauline; brother, William Eshbaugh; and sister, Marita Wood. He is survived by his wife, Helen Burley Eshbaugh; stepson and guardian, Don Johns; stepdaughter, Donna Best, all of Cuyahoga Falls; and stepdaughter, Vivian Kraus of Mogadore. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, 1998, at the ADAMS MASON MEMORIAL CHAPEL (791 E. Market St.), where friends may call one hour prior to services. Dorothy E. Fagan (Ball)
Dorothy E. Fagan (Ball), 90, of Mogadore, passed away May 5, 1998. She was a lifetime resident of the area, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Randolph and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a former member of St. Paul's Church. Preceded in death by her husband, John F., in 1973, she is survived by sons, Robert P. (Katherine) of Mentor, Richard F. of Cleveland, John C. (Blanche) of Akron; 14 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 p.m. TODAY at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Randolph. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Heather Lea Fazzan-Bartram, 21, died suddenly May 5, 1998. She was the wife of Jason; beloved mother of Jordan and Alex (deceased); dear daughter of Annette Harvey and Luke Fazzan Jr.; beloved granddaughter of Luke Sr. and Eleanor Fazzan (Florence--deceased) and Robert and Nancy Harvey; dear great-granddaughter of Brida Grimmett; beloved sister of Heidi and Anthony (deceased); dear niece of Edwina Daniels, Regina Payne, Guy, Nathan, and Ervin Harvey, and Barb Schollaert. Genevieve M. Finelli
Genevieve M. Finelli, 84, went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 1998. She was born in Curwensville, Pa., and lived in the Akron area the past 50 years. Mrs. Finelli was the manager with Co-op supermarket, and a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Goodyear Retirees. Preceded in death by her husband, Orlando, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John and Ellie; daughter and son-in-law, Louise and John Mihalek; daughters, Genevieve Bartoletta and Dolly Sollberger; l5 grandchildren, l4 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Cleo) and Frank (Wilma) Pastori; sisters, Flutch Natoli, and Marguerite (Lloyd) Bowers; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Flemming Finney
Flemming Finney, 67, passed away May 12, 1998, at Akron City Hospital, after a long illness. Born in Mil- ledgeville, Ga., he had lived in this community since 1954, and had been employed as a meatcutter for Kent Provision. Preceded in death by wife, Barbara Ann Finney; and daughter, Phyllis Finney, he is survived by daughters, Arenthia Wims, Ann Marie Kennedy, and Cathey Vaughn, all of Akron; brothers, Richard (Helen) Foreman of Akron, Charlie Stanley of Milledgeville, Ga.; sisters, Catherine Cox, Maggie Singleton, both of Akron, and Ernestine (William) Sanders of Gordon, Ga.; mother, Annie Stanley of Gordon, Ga.; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 1998, in Milledgeville, Ga. Interment at Scott Chapel Cemetery. Michael R. Fleisher
COVENTRY -- Michael R. Fleisher, 51, passed away May 11, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Fleisher was born in Akron on March 20, 1947. He was a Kenmore High School graduate, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and had most recently worked for Midwest Rubber. He was active with Coventry Youth Sports. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda (nee Ashley); son, Michael Jr.; daughters, Nancy Fleisher and Amy (Jeff) Skaggs; grandson, Jaret Skaggs; parents, Charles and Martha Fleisher; brother, Charles Fleisher Jr.; sisters, Catherine (Ron) Wegmiller and Valerie Fleisher; and many nieces and nephews. Nora L. Fogt, nee Burch, 40, passed away at her residence May 5, 1998. Services will be held at 10 a.m. TODAY at FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. (at Gilchrist Road). Murry E. ``Murphy'' Francis, 45, passed away May 2, 1998. He lived in the Akron area most of his life. Preceded in death by his son, Michael J. Francis, he is survived by his wife, Anita; daughter, Jo-Beth; brother, James; sisters, June, Louisa, and Carol; and many family and friends. Celia D. French
Celia D. French, 100, of Granger, died May 2, 1998. Born in Akron, she had been a resident of Medina County for most of her life. She was an active member of the Granger United Methodist Church for 81 years, and was a member and past president of Granger United Methodist Women. She was the church organist, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the choir for many years. She was a member of the James Flower Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Elworth Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star; and a charter member and past president of William Stanley Vanselow American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. French was also a charter member of the Granger Historical Library Association; member and past president of the Medina Coterie Club; and served on the Medina Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors for many years. She also was the oldest member of the Granger Alumni Association. Mrs. French was the beloved wife of 65 years of the late Earl G. French. She is survived by a daughter, Elfreda Johnson of Granger; son, Rev. Dr. Maynard French of Canton; grandchildren, Lynne Rench of Medina, Deborah French of Chicago, Lee Lorentzen of Strongsville, Mark French of Canton, Jonathan French of Bellefontaine, Marsha Ogilvie of Fountain Valley, Calif., Mark Hyde of Columbus, and Marianna Arvidson of Canton; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Granger United Methodist Church, Wednesday, May 6, at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Maynard French, Rev. David Mally, and Rev. Joy E. French will officiate. Ruie Gay Fulks
Ruie Gay Fulks, 86, of Tunnelton, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, April 28 at her home. She was born March 23, 1912, in Clay County, W. Va., daughter of the late Henry and Lydia Downey Fulks. She was a homemaker and a member of the Independent Christian Evangelical Church. She is survived by five daughters, Joan Stalnaker of Tallmadge, Helen Rumschlag of Akron, Jerrie Proffett of Sorrento, Fla., Sandra Funk of Tunnelton, W. Va, and Carolyn Funk of Arthurdale, W. Va.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Friends may call at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home in Akron on Sunday, May 3, from 2 to 5 p.m. Graveside service Monday, 10 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park Mausoleum.
