Paul R. Kendall, 83, passed away May 14, 1998, at his home. Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy, he is survived by his daughters and son, Shirley Sheppard, Sandy Wisbey, Linda (Larry) Walker and Bud Kendall. He had 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial services Monday, 10 a.m., at the Hummel Funeral Home West, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley. Gladys M. Kilgo
Gladys M. Kilgo, 74, passed away May 18, 1998, after a brief illness. She was born in Barberton and had lived in the Akron area all of her life. Mrs. Kilgo had been employed with Babcock & Wilcox and for many years, was a counselor and dean of girls at the Akron Institute at Lakeside, Ohio. Gladys was a long and faithful member of the church of the Good Shepherd, where she was active with the United Methodist Woman's Society, Senior Christians, chairperson for the Worship Committee for the past four years, and served for many years as the Youth Director. She is survived by husband of 53 years, Burl ``Buckshot''; sons, Donald E. (Sandy) of Charlotte, N. C., William B. (Lynn) of North Canton; daughter, Pamela J. (Daniel) Redman of Frazeysburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Bret, Matthew, Jennifer, Tommy, Erik, Missy, Mindy, and Reb; five great-grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Grimes of Barberton; brother, Oliver Brean Jr. of Florida; many nieces and nephews. Suzanne Hillenbrand Knight, 67, was received into the arms of the Lord on May 15, 1998. She was born in Wheeling, W. Va., and was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and George Hillenbrand; sister, Virginia (Jones) Miller. Mrs. Knight is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter, Pamela (Joseph) Sardone of Wadsworth; sons, David of Decatur, Ga., Mark (Susan) of Shaker Heights; grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Sardone; nephew, James Jones of Wheeling, W. Emma Matilda (Powell) Kohlhepp
Emma Matilda (Powell) Kohlhepp, 83, passed away May 16, 1998. Emma was born in Adrian, Pa. on May 31, 1914. She was a member of the Cottage Grove E.C. Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and brother, William Powell, and is survived by her daughters, Patricia Hill (William Allen) and Virginia ``Peachy'' (Peter) Cernava; foster-daughter, Hazel Hess; sisters, Dorothy Fike, Peg Archibald, and Nancy Pinchot; grandchildren, James Hill, Stephen, Michael, and Belinda Cernava; great-grandchildren, Andy Cernava and Paige Hill. Eileen E. Korpela
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Eileen E. Korpela, 77, passed away May 19, 1998. Mrs. Korpela was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls since 1982, moving there from Upper Peninsula, Mich. She had volunteered for Friends, Incorporated, Hillhaven Nursing Home, and Weaver School, and was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she had chaired the Outreach Committee. Her church was her life. She was a charter member of V.F.W. Post 9084 Auxiliary in Wakefield, Mich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Heino R. Korpela; and grandson, Barry Korpela, and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roland and Betty of Lake Mary, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Lida and Rev. Larry Mackey of Cleveland; sister, Priscilla Kahlke of Garnerville, N. Y.; brother, James A. Parks of Brooklyn, N. Y.; and grandchildren, Charles and Lisa Korpela of Florida. Irene Kozelnicky
Irene Kozelnicky, our dearly loved sister, aunt, and friend, went to her heavenly reward on Sunday, May 17, 1998. The cancer that afflicted Irene finally took her from us after a short stay at Akron General Medical Center, at the age of 81. She was born in Quinton, Va., and had been an Akron resident for most of her life. She was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in the air foam department for over 32 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the East Akron Apostolic Christian Church. Miss Kozelnicky is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Marcella Kozy of Tallmadge; sisters, Anna Capela of Union City, Pa., and Mary Kozelnicky of the home; many, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews, and was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Suzanne (nee Pauliny) Kozelnicky; brothers, John, Steve, Andrew, and George Kozy; sisters, Helen Kray and Olga Ziegler. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10 a.m., at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, Arthur Wolcott officiating. Private interment to be held at Hillside Memorial Park. William W. Krieg
BARBERTON -- William W. Krieg, 71, died May 13, 1998. Surviving are daughters, Shirley Laughbaum of Sterling and Yvonne Tobar of Bakersfield, Calif.; sister, Florence Miller of St. Louis, Mo.; and three grandchildren. His wife, Mary, died in 1972. Services Monday, 10 a.m., at Maple Hill Mennonite Church in Rittman, with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery. C. N. Neuenschwander and Marvin Good will officiate. James Francis Lemmon, M.D.
James Francis Lemmon, M.D., 80, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at his home in Bath Township. Dr. Lemmon was a physician in Akron for 42 years in the practice of otolaryngology. He was born in Akron, was a 1936 graduate of Garfield High School, and was graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and Western Reserve Medical School. During his long career, he served on the staffs of Akron City Hospital and Akron Children's Hospital. From 1944 to 1947, Dr. Lemmon served in the United States Army Air Corps Medical Unit, including an assignment as a surgeon in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Akron for 48 years, serving as Sunday School superintendent and director of Family Camp in earlier years. Dr. Lemmon belonged to Akron's Loyalty Lodge 645 F&AM. Other treasured affiliations were the Bath Farm Council, Chagrin Valley Trails and Riding Club, and the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed reading, singing in a capella choirs, and listening to classical music. He continued his medical studies, composed poetry, and enjoyed country life on his farm. Dr. Lemmon was preceded in death by his son, Jay. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty; his daughter and son-in-law, Dolly and John Powers, and grandchildren, Jennifer and Alex Wilson, all of Bath; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Alan Stockman, and grandchildren, Gwendolyn, Madeleine, and Rebecca, all of Pittsford, N. Y.; and by his son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Lynda Lemmon, and grandson, Jonathan; and sons, Terry Lemmon and Geoffrey Lemmon, all of Bath. In lieu of calling hours or open services, Dr. Lemmon requested that his friends savor the beautiful summer evenings as they enjoy and appreciate their lives. Edward T. Lessig
SILVER LAKE -- Edward T. Lessig, 96, passed away May 16, 1998. Mr. Lessig was born in Schuylhill, Pa., and had resided in Silver Lake since 1940, moving there from Wilmington, Del. He was a graduate of Penn State University and the University of Wisconsin, and retired in 1964 from B. F. Goodrich Co. as manager of textile development in the tire division, with 32 years service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret D.; and sister, Dorothy R., and is survived by his daughter, Lois Morris of Salem, S. C.; and grandson, David Lessig of Columbus. Laneva S. Lessley
Laneva S. Lessley, 83 years, of Akron, died May 28, 1998. Mrs. Lessley was born on June 26, 1914 in Lone Oak, Kent. and moved to Akron in 1926. She graduated from East High School, class of '32 and worked as a long distance telephone operator at the Ohio Bell Company. She married William E. Lessley on December 26, 1941 and was a housewife. Mrs. Lessley went back to work at the age of 50 as a Sales Representative for the World Book Encyclopedia Company and rose to District Manager and trained new representatives for 25 years. Her memberships include the Community of Believers and the ALRUSA Club. Preceded in death by her husband, William in 1990; she leaves her daughter, Darlene Fox of Longbeach, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Patty Lessley of McHenry, Ill.; sister, Margueritte Roarty of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; grandson, Paul Fox. Andrew Tony Levitsky
STOW -- Andrew Tony Levitsky, 79, went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 1998, after a battle with cancer. A lifetime Stow resident, he retired from Jones Motor Freight after 30 years service, and was a member of Holy Family Church. Mr. Levitsky also served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his loving family and friends, wife, Eleanor (nee Battaglia); daughter, Ann Marie Levitsky; sons and daughters-in-law, Andy Paul and Nancy Levitsky, Nick and Paula Levitsky, Richard and Vicki Levitsky, and Tony Pampena; grandchildren, Lisa, Mike, Lena, Nichole, Shelly, Nicholas Andrew-Chester; sister, Rose Bova of Texas; and brother, John Levitsky of Cleveland; and his favorite dogs, Harley and Morgan. Ethel M. Lewis
Ethel M. Lewis, 88, formerly of Akron, died Monday, May 18, 1998 at 12:20 p.m. at Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek after a brief illness. Born March 21, 1910 in Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Marcus A. and Marguerite Brunner Steinke. Mrs. Lewis was a member of Billow Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Past Worthy Matron of the former Elva Chapter, the Yusef Grotto where she was past MCO, a former member and past president of AARP chapter meeting at Christ Church, a member of the Akron Women's City Club, a former member of Holy Trinity and Faith Lutheran churches of Akron and a member of Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur ``Cece'' Williams in 1965. She married Evan Thomas Lewis on October 24, 1974 and he died on February 27, 1998. She is survived by her son, Robert (Mary) Williams of Ellenton, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. David (Barbara) Sullivan of State College, Pa.; a stepson, Thomas (Sandy) Lewis of Queens Falls, N.Y.; three grandsons, the Rev. David A. Williams, Richard A. Williams, James (Pamela) Williams; four stepgrandsons, Steven Sullivan, James Sullivan, Paul Lewis and Michael Lewis; one stepgranddaughter, Sandy (Ronnie) Mills; and two great-grandsons, Ryan A. Williams and Colin M. Williams. A service of celebration will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 N. Prospect St., Akron, Ohio on Saturday, May 23, 1998 at 11 a.m. with Ethel's grandson Rev. David A. Williams and Rev. David L. Scharf officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Fairlawn. GREEN -- Alice M. Lightfritz, 75, of Green died Saturday, May 16, 1998 following a long illness. Born in Manchester, she was a life resident of the area and had retired from the First National Bank, Manchester Branch, following 18 years service. She is preceded in death by her son, Dave L. Lightfritz. She is survived by her sons, Dean (Mary) Lightfritz and Dwight Lightfritz; and granddaughter, Christine Lightfritz. Private Graveside Service will be held at Manchester Cemetery with Rev. Andrew J. Looper, May 14, 1998, beloved infant son of Grant and Nadine Looper. Though we never got to know you, you were loved from the very beginning. Leo C. Lowers, age 72, of Orrville, died Monday evening, May 18 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Louise (Freed); one son, Ken and his wife, Pam Lowers of Akron; two daughters, Virginia and Jim Dalessandro of Orrville, and Barbara and Jack Board of Orrville; sister, Mrs. Edward (Louise) Milan of Ripley, W. Virg.; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Gresser Funeral Home, Thursday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Don Samples officiating.
