Word has been received of the death of Norbert Hoerig, 84, of Hawthorne, Calif., who died in California, Friday, April 24, 1998.
Services will be noon Wednesday in Grace Chapel, Englewood Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of the service at the chapel.
Mr. Hoerig, who had been self-employed, was born and raised in Tiffin.
The family was assisted in arrangements by the McKenzie Mortuary, Signal Hill, Calif.
Esther Emma Grine
Homemaker/nursing home employee
Esther Emma Grine, 91, of 209 W. Center St., Fostoria, died at 6:55 a.m. Sunday, April 26, 1998, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.
She was born Jan. 10, 1907, in Carey, to William and Mary (Gase) Fox. On Sept. 25, 1923, in New Riegel, she married Alvin Grine. He died Aug. 18, 1952.
Surviving are: five sons, Vernon E., Vincent E., James E. and Paul L. Grine, all of Fostoria, and Harold J. Grine of Hopewell, N.J.; a daughter, Ellen R. Greek of Tiffin; 58 grandchildren: 103 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Richard and Alvin Grine Jr.; five daughters, Margaret Grine, Mrs. Albert (Helen) Kauffman, Mrs. Leonard (Hilda) Krupp, Mrs. William (Rita) Calvert and Mrs. James (Inez) Miller; three brothers, Paul, Lewis and Virgil Fox; and a sister, Beatrice Youngpeter, are deceased.
A homemaker, Mrs. Grine also worked for 30 years in the laundry at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its 55-Plus Club, Ladies of the Moose and the Eagles Auxiliary, all of Fostoria.
A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Sister Frances Ann Schismenos

Sister Frances Ann Schismenos, 51, of 135 Vennum Ave., Mansfield, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at home, following a long illness.
Born August 13, 1946, in Akron, Ohio, to Leo and Dorothy Demko Schismenos, she became a professed religious sister of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Charity in Tiffin, Ohio, in 1965.
Survivors include: her mother, Dorothy Schismenos of Akron; two brothers, Lee and Joe Schismenos, both of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Mike (Sally) Baumgardner of Dearborn Heights, Mich., and Joanie Schismenos of Lakewood, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Her father, Leo Schismenos, preceded her in death.
Sister Fran taught school from 1967-77 in Edgerton, Custar and New Washington, Ohio. She then became a Pastoral Associate and ministered in Holgate and Hamler, Ohio from 1977-87. Following a year of studies in Berkley, Calif., in 1987-88, she became a Pastoral Associate at St. Peter's Parish in Mansfield, where she continued ministering until the time of her death.
Father John Blaser will preside at a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Tiffin. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday at St. Peters's Catholic Church, 54 S. Mulberry St., Mansfield, Ohio. In Tiffin, visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday at the convent on St. Francis Avenue, where wake services will be held at 7 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. May 2, 1998, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Mansfield, with Father Herb Weber officiating.
The Geiger-Herlihy Funeral Home in Mansfield and the Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin are handling arrangements.

Orville F. Bentz

Orville F. Bentz of 691 Angela Drive, Fostoria, Ohio, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born in Seneca County to the late Ferdinand and Mary (Hoffbauer) Bentz, and he married Evelyn Mae Kinney Sept. 25, 1937, in Angola, Ind.
He is survived by: his wife Evelyn of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Garry (Carol) Phelps of Fostoria; a granddaughter, Staci Phelps of Fostoria; and a sister, Anna Mae Randall of Tiffin.
A brother, Carl Bentz, preceded him in death.
Mr. Bentz worked for 28 years as a clerk at Ford Autolite, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Fostoria Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, and burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the Eagles will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to The Living Tree at Fostoria Community Hospital.
Rodney R. Stannard
Brother of Fostoria woman
Rodney R. Stannard, 47, of Wauseon, died Thursday morning, April 23, 1998, at the Toledo Hospital, where he had been a patient since Feb. 25, 1998.
He was born March 1, 1951, at Wauseon, the son of Calvin and Pauline (Seiler) Stannard. On Dec. 10, 1971, he married Vicki Miller, who survives.
Other survivors include: his mother, Pauline Stannard of Archbold; two sons, Eric and Jason Stannard of Fayette and Archbold, Ohio, respectively; a daughter, Nicole Stannard, at home; four grandchildren; a brother, Charles Stannard of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio; and two sisters, Sharon Stannard of Fostoria and Mrs. John (Jo Nell) Ott of South Bend, Ind.
His father preceded him in death.
Mr. Stannard was a 1969 graduate of Archbold High School and lived his lifetime in the Archbold/Wauseon area. He worked in the family business known as Country Side Creations. He was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Chruch in Archbold, Defiance Moose Lodge and the Toledo Craftsman Guild.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Archbold, with Pastor Matthew Boyers officiating. Interment will follow in the Archbold Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m.- 9 p.m. Sunday at the Short Funeral Home in Archbold.

D. Franklin Tusing, 78, of 34 Jefferson St., Bloomville, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Bloomville, after an illness of several months.

Judy E. Swerlein

Judy E. Swerlein, 55, of 296 1/2 Ohio Ave, Tiffin died at 8:10 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 1998. She was born in Tiffin to Harold R. and Florence (Zender) Kuhn. Her mother survives. She married Ronald Swerlein, and he passed away.
Survivors include: four sons, Todd Malone of Kissimmee, FL, Michael, Rex, and Chris Malone, all of Tiffin; a brother, Richard H. Kuhn of Tiffin; a sister, Sharon Gruss of Chicago, IL.; and three grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Swerlein attended Calvert High School. She was retired from St. Francis as a nurse's aide and was a former member of St. Mary's Church and the DAV.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date; a private burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements will be handled by the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.
Fern L. (Cross) Pence

Fern L. (Cross) Pence, 86, formerly of Woodland Ave., Fremont, and Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home, died on Tuesday, April 21, 1998. She was born June 03, 1911, in Bellefontaine to Charles L. and Ethel (Legg) Cross. On Nov. 14, 1930, she married Olen H. Pence. He died in February 1987.
Survivors include: four sons, Paul and Ronald Pence, both of Foley, Ala., Richard Pence of Macedonia, and Olen Pence Jr. of Fremont; five daughters, Jean Mann of Tiffin, Cintra Eshenberner of Akron, Barbara Gatton of Tiffin, Judy Bernard of Clyde, and Sharon Banister of Charlotte, N.C.; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charles; a brother Charles Cross; and two sisters, Ada Willouby and Pauline Campbell
Mrs. Pence was a homemaker and an organist for the Church of God for more than 20 years. She also taught Sunday School for many years. A leader of the Sr. Citizen Band for 15 years, she represented the Sr. Citizens on the W.S.O.S. Board.
The Rev. Rob Breitigam will officiate the 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 1998 service at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Fremont.
Visitation hours are today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home.
