McCALL/CALL, HARRISON - IRONTON JOURNAL 8 Feb. 1871
Accidently shot himself near Howard Furnace Feb. 3, 1871. Started out
hunting and stopping in the yard, he put his foot on the hammer and his
mouth over the muzzle of his gun to test by blowing into the barrel whether
it was loaded or not. His foot slipped from the hammer and he was instantly
killed. About 21-22 yrs. old.

McCANN, Mrs. - IRONTON JOURNAL Apr. 26, 1871
Died at Hanging Rock, Apr. 23. 50yrs. Married two times, has three children
living. funeral St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

EDMONDS, FLOYD - Huntington Herald Dispatch - Wednesday 12/15/1954
Forty-nine years old of Milton Route 3, who died yesterday morning in a
Huntington hospital, will be buried in the Bias Cemetery following funeral
services at 2 pm tomorrow at the Bias Chapel with the Rev. Harold Jefferson
officiating. Mr. Edmonds was a carpenter. Surviving include two sons, Floyd
Edmonds Jr., of Lesage and Mickey Edmonds of Milton Route 3; one parents,
Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Edmonds of Milton Route 3; one sister, Delcie Perry of
Huntington, and three brothers, Shelby, Miles and Herbert Edmonds of Milton
Route 3. The body will be taken to the residence at 4:30 pm today from the
Heck Funeral Home at Milton.

MORFORD, R.B. - IRONTON JOURNAL Dec. 15, 1869
From Portland, Oregon, Nov. 16, 1869: The Boise Statesman of the 9th has had
an accident of the killing of R.B. MORFORD by Theodore BURMESTER on Nov
7....Mrs. MORFORD had been separated from her husband for some weeks and was
at Silver City when the killing occurred. Mr. MORFORD was a native of
Lawrence County, OH and about 37yrs old.

LUTZ, VEIT - IRONTON REGISTER FEB. 13, 1879
Died at his home on Vernon and Seventh Street, Feb. 9th, Veit Lutz, aged 58
years, of consumption.

IRONTON REGISTER - April 6, 1893 - MR. WILGUS'S WILL - leaves widow the large residence
in Proctorville and $350 a year. He then wills the rest of the property
among his three sons and two daughters as equitably as he can. He gives to
William Wilgus the farm in Windsor twp.; to John Wilgus, lot 705 in Rome; to
C. H. Wilgus, lot 708 in Rome; to Mary E. Smith and Sara A. Reynolds,
divisions of the home farm. To his sister Christiann Gillette, he gives $50;
later increased by codicil to $150 a year during her life. The will was made
in 1878. (excerpt from see newspaper for full description)

WRIGHT, FRANK S. - IRONTON JOURNAL APR. 20, 1870
Died April 14, Frank S. Wright of the firm, Ball, Wright & Winters. Age
38y8m., formerly of Cambridgeport, Mass. Resided in Ironton about 17 years.
Leaves a wife and one child about 8 years old.

YATES, YOUNG CHILD - IRONTON REGISTER Feb. 26, 1880
Died Feb. 17, 1880 of Waterloo. Young child of Ben Yates.

FREEMAN, ANTHONY - Huntington Herald Dispatch 6 Feb. 1940
68 years old, of Scottown, Ohio, who died at his home Sunday night, will be
buried today in Pleasant Ridge cemetery following services at 2 pm at the
Pleasant Ridge Church with the Rev Joseph Morris, pastor of Huntington
Church of Christ, officiating. Mr. Freeman, whose wife preceded him in death
exactly 2 years to the day, was a lifelong resident of Scottown and a
prominent farmer in the community. He is survived by 2 sons, Ralph Freeman
of Scottown, Ohio and Everett Freeman of Chesapeake, Ohio,; 2 sisters, Mrs.
Ellen Floyd and Mrs. May Gilbert both of Huntington, WV and 1 brother, James
Freeman of Huntington, WV. The body is at the home.

LYND, JACOL L. - MORNING IRONTONIAN AUGUST 5, 1925
Jacob L. Lynd, aged Coal Grove man, died early Tuesday morning at his
home after an illness of a few days which culminated from an injury
recently. Mr. Lynd moved from Buffalo Creek to Coal Grove but six weeks ago.
He is survived by his wife and three children: E. Lynd of Deering, Charles
of North Kenova, and Mrs. Georgiana Moore of Huntington; two brothers, W. L.
Lynd of South Point, and James H. Lynd of Ryansville, and Mrs. M. E.
Gilbert, a sister, also of Ryansville survive. Burial at Woodland.

POWERS, GEORGE N. - IRONTON REGISTER JAN. 30, 1879
Died at Burlington, Jan. 21, George N. Powers, aged 27 years, 4 months.

SHIPMAN, MRS. HANNAH COTTON - IRONTON REGISTER MARCH 8, 1860
Died on Feb. 28th?, in Marietta, Mrs. Hannah Cotton, wife of Dr. H. B.
Shipman, of that place.

PRICE, MARGARET - IRONTON REGISTER Feb. 19, 1880
Wife of Richard Price, died Feb. 13, 1880 of consumption at home.

PRITCHARD, JOHN - IRONTON REGISTER DEC. 2, 1875
Last Friday morning, Mr. John Pritchard, an old an respected citizen of this
place died very suddenly at his home in West Ironton...The deceased was born
in South Wales in 1817. He came to this county in 1848, locating at
Pittsburg, where he remained until 1852, when he came to Ironton, as a
member of the Co. that built the Ironton Rolling Mill. With that institution
and the Nail Mill he was connected until about 1857, when he took a position
at the Lawrence Mill, where he stayed until 1862, when he went to manage the
Pomeroy Mill. (do not have end of this)

COLES, CAPT. SAMUEL - IRN Mar. 15, 1871
Died at his residence at Ashland, KY Mar. 8 in 63rd yr. Son of Benjamin &
Hannah COLES, was born Long Island, NY June 1808. Moved to Indiana in his
childhood and remained there and in the Miami Valley until 1830. At that
time, he came to Portsmouth, OH where in 1836, he married Miss N. E.
PEEBLES, d/o Robert & Jane PEEBLES. He moved from Portsmouth to Hanging Rock
in Spring 1854.... Moved to Ashland, KY Dec. 1864.

CONWAY, MARY - IRONTON REGISTER MAY 22, 1902
Pleasant Ridge - Mary Conway, wife of Benjamin Conway, died May 5, after a
long illness. The bereaved husband and children have our sympathy.

WHITEHEAD, FATHER SAMUEL SR. - IRONTON REGISTER Oct. 27, 1881
Born Halifax Co., VA May 16, 1805, died Oct. 10, 1881

WILGUS, CHARLES - IRONTON REGISTER MARCH 30, 1893
This venerable citizen of Lawrence County died at his home in Proctorville,
last Sunday evening, of some form of paralysis. His age was 92 years. He was
one of the pioneers of the county, and for forty years was one of its most
active and prominent citizens. He served as Sheriff of the county, and also
as one of its Commissioners.

WILGUS, CHARLES HARRISON - IET OCT 3, 1927
Charles Harrison Wilgus one of the best known residents in the eastern end
of the county, died Sunday morning at his home in Proctorville. He is
survived by his widow and ten children: Mrs. J. B. Cooper of Milwaukee, Mrs.
S. B. Kinner, of New Weatherford, Mrs. Will Wylie of Athalia; Mrs. Wm.
Clarke of Huntington; Mrs. T. J. Ice of Huntington, Mrs. Edward Vale of
Proctorville; Mrs. Lou Heinz of Proctorville; Charles and William of
Proctorville. Thirty-five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren are
also bereaved.

FREEMAN , WM. H. - Ironton Tribune Monday, May 1, 1950
William Harrison Freeman of South Point died Saturday evening at 6 o'clock
at his home following an illness of one year. He was born May 30, 1867 at
South Point and spent his entire life at South Point and North Kenova. He
was the son of the late William and Margaret Stanley Freeman and formerly
operated a grocery in South Point many years. He was united in marriage Nov.
2, 1890 to Martha Ann Base (Baise). Mr. Freeman was of Baptist faith.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Martha A. Freeman, and the following children;
Mrs. O. T. Johnston of South Point, Mrs. A.D. Dean of Huntington and two
grandchildren. The following sisters and brother also survive; Mrs. Lula
Legg of Ironton, Mrs. Ada Derifield of Ironton Route One, Mrs. Rebecca
Pierce of Franklin Furnace, Mrs. Williard Gibson of South Point and one
brother, Kyle Freeman of South Point. Two sisters and one brother preceded
him in death. The body was taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs. O. T.
Johnston at North Kenova today where friends may call. Funeral services will
be conducted tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. William Caudill with
the burial in Woodland Cemetery in charge of Tracy Brammer.

MACKEY, Albert - IRONTON JOURNAL Jul. 26, 1871
Fell off a petition wall last Sat. morning while placing joists to support
the 3rd floor of S. W. DEMPSEY'S new building. Two ribs fractured and he was
severely injured about the hips.

MILLER, MISS SARAH - IRONTON JOURNAL JUL 6, 1870
Died July 2nd, in Ironton, of consumption, Miss Sarah Miller, eldest
daughter of Eli Miller, age 27 years.

MILSTEAD, Male - IRONTON JOURNAL Jul. 5, 1871
Died from effects of injuries received in falling down the hatch of Granite
State several weeks ago. He lived on Symmes Creek.

MONTGOMERY, SILAS M. - IRONTON REGISTER Oct. 26, 1882
Died Oct. 24, 1882. 80yrs old.
