at his residence. He was an employee if the W. J. Maier Storage Company.
Also surviving are two daughters, Patty Greene of West Jefferson and Linda
Lindsey of Chesapeake, and two sons, Jimmy Christian of Columbus, and
Michael Christian of Chesapeake. Funeral 2 pm. Wednesday at Schneider
Funeral Home, Chesapeake, Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.

Becky Clark and Lisa Smith, both of Ironton, Ohio; and 4 nephews, Doug Clark
of Proctorville, Ohio, Larry Clark of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mike Clark of
Orlando, FL, and Bob Clark of Chesapeake, Ohio. Funeral will be at 2 pm
Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio; burial in Perkins Ridge
Cemetery.

GRISWOLD, DR. EDWIN H. - IRONTON REGISTER JUNE 28, 1860
Died - In Portsmouth, on the 16th inst., of consumption, Dr. Edwin H.
Griswold, formerly of Ironton, aged about 34 years. He was at one time
(1850) an owner in Keystone Furnace, and afterwards (1853) an owner in Hecla
furnace. "The deceased, " (says the Portsmouth Republican,) "was a member of
the Presbyterian Church, and gave unmistakable evidence that he died in the
hope of a glorious immortality beyond the grave. Although his sufferings
were very great, and of long duration, he bore them all with Christian
fortitude, all the while praising the One that so severely afflicted him."

near Deering Wednesday night after a long illness of lung trouble, aged 61
years.

Mrs. Mars, an old lady died at her home on Third near Pine-st. on last
Saturday morning and was buried on Sunday. (East End Items).
MARTIN, MRS. JANE - IRONTON REGISTER JUNE 25, 1891
Mrs. Jane Martin, wife of D. J. Martin, deceased, died suddenly, last Friday
night. Asthma was the cause. Mrs. Martin was 70 years old. She came from
Cincinnati to Hanging Rock with her husband in '51, and soon after to
Ironton. She lived in the house on 4th-st., where she died, continuously for
27 years.

ELKINS, JAMES C. - Huntington Herald Dispatch - Saturday 6/13/1953
Sixty years old, of Proctorville, died at 12:40 p.m. yesterday at his home
after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday
at the Getaway, O., Methodist Church by the Rev. David Click and the Rev.
Robert Whitley. Burial will be in the Getaway Cemetery. Mr. Elkins was born
July 22, 1892, at Getaway, a son of the late Frank and Anna Ellis Elkins. He
was veteran of World War I, and a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors
include the widow Mrs. Anise Elkins; six daughters, Mrs. Lilly Stapleton and
Mrs. Helen Smith of Proctorville, Mrs. Martha Pine and Mrs. Ana Halleck of
Chesapeake, Mrs. Emogene Sheppard of Huntington, and Miss Marjorie Elkins at
home; one son, Corbet Elkins of Proctorville; two sisters, Mrs. Martha
Leffingwell of South Point and Mrs. Liza McMasters of Chesapeake; one
brother Alex Elkins of Chesapeake, and 23 grandchildren. One daughter,
Dorothy Elkins, preceded him in death. The body will be taken to the
residence at 2 p.m. today from the Schneider Funeral Home at Chesapeake.

INDIAN BURIAL - IRONTON JOURNAL 11 Jan. 1871
A few days since, while a grave was bring dug at Unionville, this county, a
layer of something resembling isinglass, was struck at the depth of about
three feet. Underneath which 14 perfect Indian arrows were found. Below the
arrows was found another layer of the supposed isinglass, which indicated
that an expensive burial had taken place among aborigines.
