Mrs. Jacob Suiter, one of the oldest residents of Law. Co., died at the home
o9f her son in Bradrick Friday. She was past 80 years. Her husband, Jacob
Suiter, died just one year ago to a day and nearly at the same hour. Mr. and
Mrs. Suiter were married at Bradrick 63 years ago on the 15th day of
February. Mrs. Suiter is survived by three children, Jacob Suiter with whom
she made her home, and two married daughters.

Feb. 3, 1912-March 2, 1994 - Chesapeake - Anna M. Freeman, 81, of Route 2,
Chesapeake, died Tuesday at Heartland of Riverview. The South Point native
was born Feb. 3, 1912, the daughter of the late Cecil and Lizzie Keeney.
Funeral will be at 11am Friday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, Ohio,
with the Rev. D.L. Webb officiating; burial will be in Getaway Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Survivors
include 2 sons, Leslie Freeman and Harold Freeman, both of Chesapeake, Ohio;
four daughters, Leona Hysell, Juanita Edmunds and Judy Smoot, all of
Chesapeake, Ohio, and Shirley Fetty of Proctorville, Ohio; one sister,
Birdie Freeman of Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and
three great-great-grandchildren.

94, of South Point, died Thursday in Jo-Lin Health Center, Ironton.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Wilburn (Gladys) Keeney of South
Point, Mrs. Olive Brammer of Deering and Mrs. Acey (Betty) Knipp of Ironton;
and five sons, Howard Gibson of Dayton, Carl Gibson and Billy Gibson, both
of South Point, Harold Gibson of Ironton and Frank Gibson of Waverly.
Funeral 2 p.m. tomorrow at Ice Creek. Missionary Baptist Church; burial in
Ice Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Schneider
Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
MATTHEWS, JAMES - IRONTON REGISTER JUNE 7, 1860
On Thursday last a coal digger named James Matthews was killed near
Zanesville. He started into the bank at Hamline's Hill, lying in his car
drawn by a dog; the car jostled a prop out of the place and let the earth
down upon him and smothered him.
GIBSON, MRS. RETTA - IRONTON REGISTER NOV. 10, 1892
Mrs. Retta Gibson was born at Etna Furnace, Lawrence County, Ohio, June
22nd, 1862, and died in Ironton, Ohio, October 21, 1892, at the age of 30
years and 4 months. In 1868 her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Clutts, moved to
Kentucky but returned the following year to Pine Grove, where they lived for
17 years. In 1881, they removed to this city. July 3, 1889, she was united
in marriage to John M. Gibson, and moved to Gate City, Ala., remaining until
Feb. 1890. (poem).
STRAIT, REV. JOHN - IRONTON REGISTER JAN. 19, 1860
From the Gallipolis Journal - Death of Rev. John Strait, a Revolutionary
Soldier. This old patriot died on Saturday morning last, aged one hundred
and one years, four months and seven days. He was born in 1758, in Rhode
Island, and enlisted at Brooklyn in the Massachusetts services in 1775; was
at the battle of Long Island; and served in the Continental service about
three years. He came West in 1818 (or 15), and settled near Marietta, in
Washington county, afterwards removed to Butler county, and from thence to
Gallia, which was in the year 1820. He was among the oldest Revolutionary
pensioners and a minister of the gospel for over seventy-five years. He was
three times married and was the father of eighteen children. Up to the last
two years Mr. Strait retained the mental and physical facilities for a
remarkable degree and was in the habit of visiting Gallipolis frequently.
The aged widow who survives has the sympathy of this whole community.
STUART, WILLIAM - IRONTON REGISTER FEB. 27, 1879
Sudden Death - Just before noon Thursday, William Stuart, a young married
man of West Ironton, who worked at the rolls in the Belfont Mill, was trying
to push off from the beach near his home a small junk boat, in which he was
interest. The prop gave way, and the timber spinning round struck Stuart in
the back of his head. He lived for nearly an hour. Member of the Fire
Department.
