Samuel W. Dempsey was born at Maria Forge, Pa., August 20th, 1811, in the
neighborhood of which the first 18 years of his life were spent. At that
age, he came with his parents to Greenup, Ky., returning to Fayette county
in a short time, to be married to Catharine Atwell, who died in 1855. In
1856, he was married to Elisa A. Vermillion who survives him. He was
stricken with apoplexy.

GILLEN, MARTIN - IRONTON REGISTER MARCH 20, 1879
Death - Martin Gillen, one of the oldest citizens of Ironton, died at his
residence on the 13th. Mr. Gillen was born in Beaver County, Penn. in 1812.
He came to Ironton Nov. 1, 1849, and was consequently one of the first
citizens. He went into the furniture business on the corner of Third and
Lawrence, and when Exchange block was built, moved there. He retired from
business about 10 years ago. Died from heart disease.

Body of a man supposed to be that of one McDANIELS of Ashland, KY was found
in the river opposite Greensupburg, KY last Monday. His neck was broken and
skull badly fractured.

Henry A. Miller, who was committed to the Athens Asylum January 18, 1900,
died there last Friday, October 12. He was 38 years old and married and
lived at Hanging Rock, where he conducted a meat market. He was a musician
of ability.
