Alfred Wayne Fritz, 87, of Gallipolis, formerly of Frostburg, Md., passed away Monday, March 29, 2004, at Kobacker House in Columbus.
He was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Garrett, Pa., to the late Harry and Mary Hillegas Fritz. Alfred graduated from the California State Teacher’s College in 1941 in California, Pa. He began his teaching career at Garrett, Pa. He taught for 42 years, most of those years were with the Allegany Board of Education, where he was also a baseball coach. Additionally, Alfred was a real estate developer at Trescher Heights in LaVale, Md., and was a lifetime farmer.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Frostburg, Md. Alfred was a World War II Army Veteran and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He is survived by two daughters, Sondra Fritz (Asadollah) Jabbarpour of Point Pleasant, W.Va.; and Billie Sue Fritz (Tim) Kyger of Gallipolis; four grandchildren, Yadollah (Martina) Jabbarpour of Salem, Va.; Jamie (James) Via of Columbus; Timothy Kyger and Lauren Kyger, both of Gallipolis; four great grandchildren, Christopher and Alexandra Jabbarpour of Salem, Va. and Jonathan and Jordan Via of Columbus; one brother, Gene Fritz of Garrett, Pa.; two sisters, Doris (John) Dunlap of Pittsboro, N.C. and Loretta (Harold) Saylor of Meyersdale, Pa.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and two wives, Mildred Kerr Fritz in 1975 and Frances Hunter Taylor Fritz in 1995.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 2, 2004, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Frostburg, Md., with Pastor Michael Tamorria officiating.
Burial will follow immediately in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 6:30-9 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Sowers Funeral Home in Frostburg, Md.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Fritz, Yadollah Jabbarpour, Timothy Fritz Kyger, Timothy V. Kyger, James Via, and Jack Warnick. Honorary pallbearers will be John Dunlap, Gene Fritz, Asadollah Jabbarpour and Harold Saylor.

Calvin J. Morrison

Calvin J. Morrison, 59, of Chillicothe, died Monday evening, August 4, 2003, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio, following an extended illness. He was born April 9, 1944, in Taylorsville, NC, to the late Carl and Melvia Howell Morrison. In 1999, he married the former Nancy M. Cousins, who survives.
Also surviving are his sisters and brother-in-law Maudine (Calvin) Minnis; Gladys Gehrig; Odessa Morrison, all of Bidwell, Ohio; and Jeardin Cordell, Gallipolis; brothers Clayton Morrison, Bidwell; Lee Morrison, Kerr, Ohio; and Jerry Morrison, Gallipolis; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends including Dennis Wright, Ben Ruggles, and Rich Ausec. He was predeceased by sisters Doris Minnis, Helen Morrison, Grace Alexander, and Evelyn Morrison; and brothers Robert and Charles Morrison.
Mr. Morrison had worked at CCI as a corrections officer. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Era.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2003, at the Haller Funeral Home with Pastor Calvin Minnis officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Firing Squad will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at Haller Funeral Home.

Therian "Ray" Wandling

Therian “Ray” Wandling (Mighty Mouse), age 67, formerly of Point Pleasant, W.Va., passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003, following an extended illness.
He was born February 13, 1986, to the late Otho and Ethel Wandling.
He is survived by his former wife Irene Wandling; sons, Steve (Sharon) and Greg (Marilyn) of Delaware, Ohio; daughters, Pam (Melvin) Burns of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Vickie Wandling, Nyra Jo (Darrell) Newcomb, Kathy (Pat) North, Rhonda (Mike) Harter, Tricia (Scott) Kenney, all of Delaware, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Senneth (Catherine) of Point Pleasant, W.Va., Glenneth (Jerry) of Heaters, W.Va., Landis “Pat” (Agnes) of Gallipolis, Ohio; sisters Jieniece (Leonard) Newberry of Patriot, Ohio, and Cledith (Bob) Wilson of Columbus, Ohio; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home & Crematory, Delaware, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
William Alderson

GALLIPOLIS - Willie Eugene “Gene” Alderson, 72, Gallipolis, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in McConnelsville.
Born July 25, 1930, in Adolphus, Ky., he was the son of the late Everett and Irene Hobdy Alderson and owned and operated Quality Home Builders, Inc. for 35 years in the Greenwood, Ind. area.
He was also a member of the N.H.B.A., the Johnson County Builders’ Association and B.A.G.I.; an avid fisherman; and he attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Rio Grande.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanore Hamlin Alderson; a daughter, Lori (David) Cody of Gallipolis; four grandchildren, Heidi, Sean, Morgan, and Peyton Cody, all of Gallipolis.
He is also survived by two brothers, Jim Alderson of Martinsville, Ind., Max (Nancye) Alderson of Nashville, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews; and daughters Linda Witham and Phyllis Ebling.
He was preceded in death by one son, Alan Alderson, February, 1987; and one brother, Roy C. Alderson, 1986.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Rio Grande. The Rev. Heath Jenkins will officiate.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

GALLIPOLIS –– Blanche L. Canaday, 91, Gallipolis, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Holzer Senior Care Center.
Born October 21, 1911, in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Naaman and Anna G. Switzer Canaday Jr. She was a 1930 graduate of Gallia Academy High School and was a retired employee of Kroger’s, where she worked for 36 years.
She was also a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local No. 400.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Golden R., Cassius M., Delmar A., Robert K., and Marshall F. Canaday; two sisters, Edna V. Niday and Mary L. Bailey.
She is survived by a son, Ronald K. (Audrey) Canaday of Gallipolis; two grandsons, Robert E. Gordon and John C. Gordon; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer D. Gordon, Brian Gordon and Nathan Gordon; one brother, Gerald B. Canaday of Flint, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-9 p.m.

GALLIPOLIS –– Virginia Dare Howell, 79, Gallipolis, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Arbors Nursing Home in Gallipolis.
Born November 11, 1923, in Gallagher, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Belle Curnutte.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Howell; and two grandsons, Bill Howell and Duane Howell.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Jeanie Howell of Pomeroy, Gregory and Norma Howell of Ona, W.Va.; one sister, Ruth Wroblewski of Gallipolis; a brother, Earl Curnette of St. Albans, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Jessica Howell, Tracy Napier and Todd Howell; and four great-grandchildren, Brittney Napier, Lindsey Napier, Ryan Howell, and Ethan Howell.
Funeral services will take place at 12 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2003, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel in Barboursville, W.Va.
Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, W.Va.
