MRS. BECKETT

AMELIA, Ohio - Mrs. Irene Beckett, 88, formerly of Amelia, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Anderson Nursing Home in Anderson Township, Ohio.

Born in Mason County, she was the widow of Frederick Beckett.

Surviving are four children, Joan Mathis, Barbara Snedegar, Phyllis Esz and Larry Beckett; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorene Wheatley; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at E.C. Nurre Funeral Home, Ohio 125, Amelia, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Shannon Cemetery, Mason County.

MRS. SHAFFER

GEORGETOWN, Ohio - Mrs. Jessie M. Shaffer, 90, of Hamersville, died Sunday [Sept. 28, 2003] at Brown County Hospital.

She was the widow of Elzie E. Shaffer.

Services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cahall Funeral Home. Burial in Hickory Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to Hospice of Hope, 415 1/2 Home Street, Georgetown, Ohio 45121.

MR. SCOTT

MANCHESTER, Ohio - Robert E. Scott Jr., 76, of Dover, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Scott was a farmer and employed at Moyers for 20 years.

He was a member of the Maysville F.O.E.

He was born in Brown County, Ohio on July 31, 1927, to the late Robert E. Scott Sr. who died in 1989 and the late Eva Volmer Scott.

Surviving are one daughter, Bevelin Caudill of Aberdeen, Ohio; four sons, Steven Scott and David (Connie) Scott, both of Georgia, Jeffrey (Kim) Scott of Norfolk, Va., and Shane (Denise) Scott of Lexington; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Scott of Kileen, Texas; and three sisters, Nettie Cassidy of Hillsboro, Ohio, Mary Nicodemus of Portland, Ind., and Dora McKee of Lewisburg, Ohio.

Also surviving is a special niece and a special nephew, Donna Myers of Maysville, and Jim Myers, also of Maysville.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Home for Funerals with Rev. Tony Cox officiating.

Burial will be in the Manchester Cemetery.

Visitation is from noon until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

MR. GRAY

RIPLEY, Ohio - Charles L. Gray, 90, of Ripley, died Monday [Sept. 29, 2003] at Brown County General Hospital in Georgetown, Ohio.

He was the widower of Mary Frances Day Gray.

Services 1 p.m. Friday at Cahall Funeral Home.

Burial in Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials to American Cancer Society.

MR. HUGHES

WEST UNION, Ohio - Charles M. Hughes, 82, of Russellville, Ohio, died Wednesday [March 30, 2005] at the Adams County Manor.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Downs) Hughes.

Services 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beam Funeral Home in West Union, Ohio.

Burial in Decatur Cemetery.

Visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

MR. DENNY

GEORGETOWN, OHIO - Fred Denny, 66, of Georgetown, Ohio died Wednesday at the Villa Georgetown.

Mr. Denny is survived by his wife, Mattie (Keith) Denny.

Services 2 p.m. Sunday at Cahall Funeral Home in Georgetown.

Interment in Confidence Cemetery in Georgetown.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Saturday with Masonic and Scottish Rite Services at 7:45 p.m.

Courtney Clay Markwell

Aberdeen – Courtney Clay Markwell, 74, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Villa Georgetown in Georgetown, Ohio.

Mr. Markwell was born July 14, 1943 in Ewing, Kentucky to the late Elgan and Vada Adamson Markwell.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kimberly Smith Markwell and his sister, Ruby Fields, who passed away in November 2017.

Services for Courtney Markwell will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Laura Bell Johnson

RIPLEY, OHIO - Mrs. Laura Bell Johnson, 95, of Ripley, Ohio, died Friday [April 1, 2005] at Brown County General Hospital in Georgetown, Ohio. She was the widow of Dewey M. Johnson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Ripley Church of Christ.

Burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Ripley.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church.

Mary Lou Weidman

Mary Lou Jenny Weidman, age 71, of Marysville, died unexpectedly, Thursday, March 22, 2001 at Ohio State University Medical Center.

A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served as a Stephen Minister. She was a member of the church’s Outreach, Support, Worship and Care committees and was a member of the church council and the 79er’s. She was a member of Hannah Circle of Trinity Lutheran Church Women. She was also a church office volunteer and surrogate grandparent for Trinity School. In 1998, the church congregation named her the year’s “Outstanding Member”.

She retired in 1991 from Milcrest Nursing Home after working 21 years as assistant to Donna Crawford, her golfing buddy and nursing home administrator.

During her younger years, she was a former associate with Eljer Plumbingware and the Sears catalog store in Marysville.

She was a past member of Marysville Lionness Club and Business and Professional Women. She was a former member of Mary Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She once served as secretary for the Women’s Union County Bowling Association for 20 years.

A member of the Marysville High School Alumni Association, she was a 1947 graduate MHS and was the 1946 Football Homecoming Queen. She was most remembered as the first queen to be crowned on the “new” football field at the corner of Collins Avenue and Grove Street. She was active in school sports and band.

She collected lighthouse memorabilia, enjoyed computerized solitaire and loved wild birds and gardening.

She was born August 11, 1929 in Orrville, Ohio to the late Carl Richard and Evelyn Harkless Jenny. She was predeceased by a brother in his youth, Richard, and a sister Phyllis Burroughs Zimmerman.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Conrad A. “Connie” Weidman, whom she married February 3, 1950 at the Trinity Lutheran parsonage by Rev. Goedeking; a daughter, Libby Shaw of Jacksonville, NC; a son, Matthew C. (Cherie) Weidman of Marysville; four grandchildren, Craig Shaw of Columbus, Aaron Shaw of Jacksonville, NC and Cole and Emily Weidman of Marysville; a sister, Margaret (Dave) Rupright of Sidney; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Grisham of Milford Center; nieces, JoBeth Grisham and JoAnne (Kevin) Weller, Judi Sumler and Beverly Jackson; and nephews, Jeff and Greg Rupright and Rick Burroughs.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Renee Ahern and Rev. John Davoll will officiate and burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Underwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Craig Shaw, Aaron Shaw, Kevin Weller, Mike CiCigoi, Donald DeGood, Marvin Gilbert and Jim Rausch.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund or the American Heart Association.
