A prominent citizen passed away Monday night at 10:30.... Moses D. Paul was
born Oct. 13, 1836 at Aberdeen, Brown Co, OH. His father was Hosea Paul, of
Maine and his mother was Nancy Jane Carter of Cartersville, Queens Co., VA.
He was the youngest of four brothers, all of whom lived to be older than he
was.....At the outbreak of the Civil War, M. D. Paul enlisted Apr 17, 1861
in Capt. John A. Black's Co. G, OH Valley Inf. for three months and
discharged at Cols. Jul 1, 1861....He came to Ironton, 46 yrs. ago....Burial

after an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Sunday at the Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by the Rev. Billy Ferris.
Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. He was born Aug. 23, 1889, in Lawrence
County, Ohio, a son of the late William and Virginia Dudley Ferris. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Martha Pruitt Ferris, who died in 1974.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Goldie Harmon, Mrs. Florence Hastings
and Mrs. Lucille Smith, all of Chesapeake, Mrs. Lillie Zuzzio of Ormond
Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Evelyn Blevins of Huntington; a sister, Nettie
Pridemore of Huntington; a brother, Russell Ferris of Covington, Va; 11
grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and a great-great-grand child.

Mother of Mrs. Valentine ZIMMERMAN of this city and of Miss Rose BECKLE
passed away Wednesday evening after an illness of rather lengthened period
due to infirmities of old age. The death of Mrs. BECKLE will cause genuine
sorrow among those who chanced to make her acquaintance or who were
acquainted with her in every day life. She was born in 1831in Germany and
came to this county in the early days of her life and was married to Mr.
BECKLE and passed many happy years of wedded life in the city of Pomeroy.
The deceased came to this city after the death of her husband several years
ago and was accompanied by her daughter, Miss Rose, who came to Ironton to
accept the managership of the Ironton Benk? store. She has been making her
home with Mrs. ZIMMERMAN and her friends and neighbors here will .... The
deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. ZIMMERMAN and Miss Rose
of this city, Mrs. David PRITCHARD of Pulliman, ILL; Carl of Durham, Wyoming
and George and Will of Lurig, Ohio. Funeral in Pomeroy at the German
Episcopal church and interment at Pomeroy.
