OKLAHOMA CITY -- Graveside rites for Ardmore native Vira R. Fry, 85, were conducted this morning at Resthaven Cemetery.
Fry, who died Nov. 4, 1997, in Oklahoma City, was born July 22, 1912, in Ardmore, to Will B. and Stella Gibson Fry.
He had lived in Oklahoma City most of his life and was a mechanic for Leveridge Imports. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, in 1995.
Survivors include stepchildren, Beverly Burke, San Antonio, Texas, Zora Whitener, Oklahoma City, Annette Black, Farwell, Texas, and Butch Leveridge, Arlington, Texas; a brother, J.C. Fry, Ardmore; and sister, Ruby Wells, Ardmore; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vondel L. Smith & Sons Mortuary directed services.
PAWNEE -- Services for Ardmore native Elbert Archie McNeely will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Poteet Funeral Chapel in Pawnee. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Province Cemetery in Ardmore.
McNeely, 75, died Nov. 4, 1997, in Tulsa. He was born Oct. 18, 1922, in Ardmore to Elbert T. and Nellie A. Elledge McNeely.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a plant foreman for Halliburton before he retired. He and Betty Reeves were married in 1985 at Pawnee.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; eight children, Carlos Reichman, Montana, Cynthia Mueller, Illinois, Elbert McNeely, Piedmont, Carrie Goins, Missouri, Janie McNeely, Richard McNeely, Michael McNeely and Karen Pieropan, New Orleans; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
MILL CREEK -- Services for Lucille Cornelius, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Mill Creek with Roy Roundtree and the Revs. Betty Stone and Jerry George officiating. Interment will be at Troy Cemetery under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home, Sulphur.
Mrs. Cornelius died Nov. 4, 1997, in Oklahoma City. She was born Feb. 4, 1921, at Wynnewood to John L. and Carrie E. Lilly Cornelius.
A resident of this area most of her life, she graduated from Mill Creek High School, was a member of Mill Creek United Methodist Church and Sulphur Hills Lady Golf Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Fern Smith and Maxie, Oklahoma City; and a son, Dub Quinton, Oklahoma City; two brothers, George Cornelius, Midwest City, and Sinko Cornelius, Mill Creek; a sister, Bunny Peden, Mill Creek; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
SULPHUR -- Services for Rossie Evelyn McKinley, 96, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Clagg Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. James Swain officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Born April 4, 1901, at Whitewright, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. George L. Sloan, Mrs. McKinley died Nov. 6, 1997, in Sulphur.
She had lived in this area since childhood and was a former house mother at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf. She and John L. McKinley were married in 1919 in Sulphur. He preceded her in death Aug. 3, 1958. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, LaFleeta Lewis, Sulphur, and Johnnie Dowell, Peoria, Ill.; a son, W.B. "Buddy," Sulphur; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as bearers.
Graveside rites for Lonie Brown, 84, were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Provence Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Johnston officiating.
Mrs. Brown died Nov. 5, 1997, in the local hospital after an extended illness. She was born April 6, 1913, at Milburn to Delbert and Hattie Maxwell Shockley.
A lifelong resident of Ardmore, she was a waitress for more than 33 years then worked more than eight years for Stromberg Carlson before she retired. She was the widow of Floyd Brown, who died in 1971.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Westergaard, Norman, and Dovie Furrh, Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Rocky Shockley, Ardmore; a brother, L.B. "Satch" Shockley; and a sister, Violet Baldwin, both of Ardmore; three stepdaughters, Esther Kuhlman, Pueblo, Colo., Dorothy Collier, Stillwater, and Janice L. Vieski, California; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home directed services.
SULPHUR -- Services for Phronia Bell Cowan, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Swain officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cowan died Nov. 6, 1997, in Sulphur. She was born July 31, 1915, in Carter County to William E. and Laura Everett Conway.
Reared in Carter County, she married William F. Cowan Aug. 23, 1933, at Berwyn, and had lived in Sulphur since 1953. She worked as a barber and for Sooner Foods. Her husband preceded her in death Dec. 8, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Spradling, Van Alstyne, Texas, and Gwendolyn Greenland, Sulphur; two sons, William "Bill, " Mesquite, Texas, and James, Blue Ridge, Texas; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Nephews will be bearers.
LITTLEFIELD, Texas -- Services for James Hopkins Davis, 93, were conducted Thursday in Littlefield, Texas.
Davis died Nov. 4, 1997, in Oilton, Texas. He was born Dec. 18, 1903, at Bullard, Texas.
He married Minnie Hazel Fitzsimmon Feb. 16, 1926, at Waurika, and was a retired farmer. His wife preceded him in death March 2, 1991.
Survivors include three sons, Lowell and Leroy Davis, Littlefield, and Richard Pash, Bellview, Mich.; a daughter, Sharon Brown, Idalou; two sisters, Leoma Davis, Ardmore, and Lois Rogers, Wilson; 11 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Hammons Funeral Home directed services.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Cordy J. Epperson, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home chapel with Jon Smith officiating. Interment will be at Wells Valley Cemetery in Bromide.
Epperson died Nov. 6, 1997, in the local hospital. He was born Dec. 20, 1912, in Bromide to Thomas and Lula A. Epperson.
He had lived in this community most of his life and was a retired crane operator. He and Lena Norton were married Jan. 15, 1978, in Gainesville, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; a son, Tommy, Moore; a daughter, Frances Arnold, Oklahoma City; two brothers, George and Cleatus "Jack," both of Hobbs, N.M.; three sisters, Lillian Venable, Oklahoma City, Lorene Pope, Grants Pass, Ore., and Lee Neufeldt, Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert; and sister, Mary Murphy.
Bearers will be Leslie J. and Michael Norton, Lloyd, Kenneth and Jackie Wellman, and Charles Epperson. Honorary bearer is Raymond Venable.
WILSON -- Services for Josephine M. Hartsell, 91, were conducted Oct. 22, 1997, in the Wilson First Baptist Church with the Rev. Darel Bunch officiating. Interment was in Hewitt Cemetery.
Mrs. Hartsell died Oct. 19, 1997, in a Tulsa hospital. She was born Nov. 7, 1905, in Hewitt to Dave and Annie Wooten Todd.
She owned and operated Josephine's Cafe in Wilson for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as superintendent of the primary department for several years. She and George E. Hartsell were married in November 1924. He preceded her in death Jan. 23, 1961. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lila Donaldson and Pearl Chisum; three brothers, Lee Todd, Polie Todd and Ed Todd.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara K. Gannon, Tulsa; a son, G.E., Whitesboro, Texas; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Stanley's Funeral Service of Tulsa directed services.
GENE AUTRY -- Services for Donna Lavon Heartsill will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gene Autry Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Elmore officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore.
Mrs. Heartsill died Nov. 5, 1997, in an Oklahoma City hospital after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 2, 1937, at Seminole to Carl R. and Juanita Goss Liggett.
A longtime resident of Ardmore, she graduated from high school in 1955 and was a retired merchandising assistant for J.C. Penney. She and Paul Keith Heartsill were married Aug. 5, 1955, at Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1990.
She is survived by three daughters, Theresa Haggard, Gene Autry, Rebecca Kaszubowski, Vancouver, Wash., and Paula Deroche, Ardmore; a son, Robert K., Ardmore; two brothers, Brad Liggett, Ardmore, and Roger Paynter, Austin, Texas; two sisters, Laura Flynn and Maita Smith, Siloam Springs, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Rusty Heartsill, Michale Haggard, Brad Liggett, Bryce Bush, Rebecca and Ron Kaszubowski. Honorary bearers are Bill Mote, Eddie Norman and Burt Tucker.
Craddock Funeral Home will direct services.
MADILL -- Services for Hubert Elbert "Brownie" Luker, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Texoma Baptist Church with Troy Capps and David Hutchason officiating. Interment will be at Shay Cemetery under the direction of Watts Funeral Home.
Luker died Nov. 5, 1997, at his residence. He was born Dec. 4, 1918, at McAlester.
Reared in Oklahoma, he drove a bus for the Army at McAlester, then farmed in Arizona. He later lived in El Centro, Calif., 40 years where he was a ranch foreman, a square dance caller and a member of the Sheriff's Posse of Imperial Valley. He moved from El Centro to Atoka in 1989. He was a member of Texoma Baptist Church. He and Viola Pearl Rose were married June 11, 1938, at Tucson, Ariz.
Survivors include his wife, Atoka; a son and daughters, Jimmy, El Centro, Ruby Graybeal, Kingston, Rose Hutchason, Irving, Texas, and Phyllis Visser, Keizer, Ore.; brothers and a sister, Bill, Atoka, Jack, Lavant, Kan., Jim, Imperial, Calif., and Josephine Sellers, Abilene, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie McCoy; three brothers; and a sister.
Bearers will be Mike Luker, Trevor McCoy, David and Allen Hutchason, Jarid, Ralph, Hubert and Jerry Graybeal.
LONE GROVE -- Services for Charles W. Mapp will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Lone Grove with the Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating. Interment will be at Lone Grove Cemetery.
Mapp died Nov. 5, 1997, in the local hospital after a brief illness. He was born to Oscar and Emma Washington Mapp Oct. 19, 1929, at Leon.
He married Helen Celestine Tapp June 16, 1951, at Marietta, and had lived in Lone Grove 25 years. He served in the Navy, had been a volunteer for the Marietta Fire Department and an active civic, Boy Scout and youth leader. He was employed by OG&E 33 years before he retired in 1987, then became a well known artist of painting, wood carvings and bronze sculpture with exhibits throughout the United States. He received the Peoples Choice Award for sculpture at the 11th Annual Western Art Show.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Mark A. and David M.; and daughter, Kimberly A. Coffee, all of Lone Grove; a sister, Pearly Alexander, Moore; and five grandchildren.
Bearers will be Richard King, Vernon Hurst, Darrell Williams, John Smith, Bobby Sharp and Eric Duncan. Honorary bearers are Don Pinkston, Jake Chambers, Calvin Foster, Herman Green, James Folsom, Jim Dodson, James Griffith and Alvin Huey.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at the Harvey-Douglas Chapel in Lone Grove.
Services for George B. Miller will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Dwight Edwards officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Miller died Nov. 4, 1997, in a local health care facility. He was born Jan. 5, 1910, in Mena, Ark.
He married Lucille McGuiness on April 7, 1933, at Chandler, and moved to Ardmore from Pauls Valley in 1959. He was a pumper with Amaco Oil Co. before he retired.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Donald, Ardmore; a sister, Rose Clinton, Sherman, Texas; and a grandson.
SULPHUR -- Graveside services for Charles Robert Shaw, 79, Oklahoma City, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery with Jerry Gilbert officiating.
Shaw died Nov. 5, l997, in Oklahoma City. He was born July 12, 1918, at Chickasha to George F. and Willie E. Singleton Shaw.
He lived in Sulphur from 1937 to 1941 when he went to California with the Navy during World War II. He moved to Oklahoma City after his discharge and was a drywall contractor and building inspector there for the city before he retired in 1981. He and Ruth Awbrey Leming were married in 1971 in Las Vegas.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two stepdaughters, Eileen Schreiber, Oklahoma City, and Elaina Leming, Pomona, Calif.; two brothers, Frank, Oklahoma City; and Renno, Westminster, Colo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William.
