Services for Ova Nancy Mankins Cheek were Saturday at the Maxwell Avenue Church of Christ with Roy Hannah and Virgil Trout officiating. Interment followed at Maysville Cemetery.
Born Aug. 8, 1899, near McKinney, Texas, to Sam and Evelyn Mankins, she died Dec. 4, 1997, at the Ardmore hospital. She married John Cheek on Nov. 12, 1916. He preceded her in death in 1976. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Pete, Jack and Buster Mankins.
Mrs. Cheek was a housewife and sometimes worked at her brothers' laundry at Maysville. She was a cook for the Rotarians for many years. She and her husband retired in 1962. Following her husband's death she moved to Ardmore.
Survivors include one son, S.T. Cheek, Ardmore; one sister, Zona McNiece, Maysville; and two grandchildren.
Services were under the direction of Winans Funeral Home.
MARIETTA -- Services for Paul Richmond Clifton, 78, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
Born July 10, 1919, at Love County to Marvin and Almeda Hubbard Clifton, he died Dec. 6, 1997, at his residence. He married Wilma K. Newsome on Aug. 17, 1943, at Memphis, Texas. She preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 1992. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Claud, Oct. 24, 1992, and Oliver.
Clifton lived most of his life in Love County. He was a heavy equipment operator, working for the City of Marietta and many others. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry, Marietta, and Larry, Bentonville, Ark.; one sister, Audrey Newsome, Thackerville; one brother, Carl, Antlers; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Bearers are Ronnie Bennett, Sam Andrews, Ralph Faulkenberry, Bill O'Haver, Randy Reeves and Terry Burch.
SULPHUR -- Services for Winna J. Meely, 76, Mill Creek, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cowley-Krien Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Taylor and Nathan Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Born Oct. 11, 1921, at Byers to Amos and Isabelle Smith Meely, he died Dec. 4, 1997, at an Oklahoma City veterans hospital.
He married Francis Kay Meely on Jan. 15, 1997, at Mississippi. Meely had lived in the Stratford area most of his life, moving to Mill Creek within the last few years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Leona Meely, Stratford, and Margie Buxton, Metlakatla, Alaska; one stepson, Dale Parker, Mill Creek; one stepdaughter, Linda Parker, Mill Creek; two sisters, Katherine Perry, Oklahoma City, and Delma Easley, Dalhart, Texas; and six grandchildren.
MADILL -- Services for Howeth Clinton Williams, 72, will be 3 p.m. Monday at Madill Church of Christ with Richard Jones, J.D. Walker and W.Y. Spence officiating. Interment will follow at Woodberry-Forest Cemetery.
Born Jan. 23, 1925, at Love Valley, Love County, he died Dec. 5, 1997, at his residence after an extended period of failing health.
Williams moved to Madill with his family in 1930. He was a Madill High School graduate. He married Bettye Lemmons on Dec. 25, 1946, at Madill. Williams spent his early life in independent trucking, custom wheat harvesting, as a sales representative for International Minerals Corp. and in the poultry business. He formed Texoma Peanut Company in 1961 and The Clint Williams Company in 1968, buying, shelling and processing peanuts for both seed and edible markets. Williams had served on the board of directors for the Oklahoma Peanut Commission, S.W. Peanut Shellers Association Board of Directors, Peanut Administrative Committee, and National Peanut Council.
He also served as a city councilman and Madill mayor. Williams was a founding director of the Pettijohn Springs Church Camp and a member of the Madill Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one daughter, Pam Ortloff, Madill; four brothers and sisters, Batson, Arlington, Texas, Lucille Huff, Madill, Charleene Dickerson, Willis, and Gladys Navarrate, Sherwood Shores, Texas; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Bearers are Harold G. "Doc" Watkins, W.Y. Spence, Leo Hall, Hal Courtney, Dick Phillips, Bill Flanagan, Walker Horn and Benny Keith. Honorary bearers are David Dunn, Dan Little, Ollie Hall, Rodney Coe, Joe Ellrod, Mike Thomas and Larry Vance
Memorials may be made to the Pettijohn Springs Church Camp.
Services are under the direction of Watts Funeral Home.
BROMIDE -- Services for Ruby Truett will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bromide Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Hicks and Claude Bluie officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Wapanucka.
Born March 8, 1908, at Roff, she died Dec. 4, 1997, at Durant. She married Henry E. Truett on July 6, 1933, at Coalgate. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby June Collier; and two sisters; and eight brothers.
Mrs. Truett lived most of her life at Bromide. She was a housewife.
Survivors include five sons, Henry A., of Houston, Hal, John and Rondall, all of Bromide, and Leroy, Tishomingo; two daughters, Elizabeth Staggs, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Alice Hester, Grapevine, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers are Kendall, Terry, Kevin, Jason and Jerad Truett and Chad Hester.
Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
BULLARD CHAPEL -- Services for Mary E. Kite McCarthick, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bullard Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth McCarthick and Ronnie Payne officiating. Interment will be at Condon Grove Cemetery under the direction of Corbin Funeral Home.
Mrs. McCarthick died Dec. 6, 1997, in Tishomingo. She was born Nov. 19, 1912, at Pecos, Texas, to Eugene P. and Florence Williams Kite.
She was a charter member of Bullard Chapel Baptist Church, and member of Bullard Chapel Quilters Club and Johnston County Genealogical Society. She was a longtime correspondent for the Capital Democrat newspaper in Tishomingo. She and Harold McCarthick were married Oct. 3, 1932, at Colbert. He preceded her in death in July of 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy, Grand Forks, N.D., and Scotty, Tishomingo; four daughters, Novice McCarthick, Tishomingo, Charlene Lane, Perkins, Toni McCarthick, Ada, and Vickie McCarthick, Norman; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sonja; two sisters, Vervan Shelton and Nora Autrey; two brothers, Laurence Kite, and an infant; and a granddaughter.
Bearers will be Alfred Williamson, Bob Disheroon, Dan and Charles Kite and Jimmy, Alvin and Glenn McCarthick.
Memorials may be made to the Tishomingo Library Fund in care of Fred Poe.
MARIETTA -- Services for Desey M. Bloomer, 55, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastside Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Emmons and Steve Gardner officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bloomer died Dec. 8, 1997, in the local hospital. She was born Oct. 20, 1942, in Love County to W.M. and Camilla Adams Jones.
She had been a resident of Love County all her life and was married to Don Bloomer June 9, 1962, at Thackerville. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and was active in the 4-H Federation. She was employed by Marietta Bakery, in the cafeteria at Marietta Public School, then owned and operated the Donut Shack six years.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters, Donna Amos, Marietta, and Darla Bloomer, Norman; her mother, Camilla Jones, of the home; and four sisters, Edith Farr, Callisburg, Texas, Orenia Smith, Antlers, Gwen Hart, Henryetta, Texas, and Billie Russell, Woodbine, Texas. She was preceded in death by a son, Danny R., June 22, 1986; her father; and an infant brother.
Bearers will be Mike Wade, Bobby Cross, Michael Sampson, Barry Dean, Brad and Bobby Burns. Honorary bearers will be the Thackerville High School basketball team of 1959-1960.
SULPHUR -- Services for William Bobby Merrell, 73, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cowley-Krien Chapel with Rick Priddy officiating. Interment will be at Drake Cemetery.
Merrell died Dec. 8, 1997, in the local hospital. He was born April 26, 1924, at Denton, Texas, to Bobby and Nancy Anderson Merrell.
He lived in Oklahoma City before moving to Wynnewood and was a retired construction worker.
Survivors include two sons, William, Guthrie, and Charles, Oklahoma City; four daughters, Judy Harris, Yukon, Christine Marler, Oklahoma City, Linda Hood and Karen Walker, Sulphur; a brother, Jesse; and sister, Julia Kirkwood, Oklahoma City; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobby Jean Merrell.
Grandsons will serve as bearers.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Julia Lorena "Judy" Cook will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corbin Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Duane Nance officiating. Interment will be at Tishomingo Cemetery.
Mrs. Cook died Dec. 8, 1997, in Tishomingo. She was born June 21, 1927, at Lindsey to Thomas J. and Molly L. Thomas Hughes.
She married James Cook on Sept. 5, 1951, at Yakima, Wash., and had lived in Tishomingo since 1970. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Tishomingo; two sons, Edward, Buena Park, Calif., and Gary, Tishomingo; a daughter, Rebecca Stevens, Tishomingo; four sisters, Linda Sweat, Oklahoma City, Nancy Shipley, Yakima, Frances "Pinky" Rowe and Helen Fall, Tishomingo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Thomas Hughes; a sister, Patsy Hughes; and a great-grandchild.
Bearers will be Jimmy Sweat, Ricky Gorrell, Mike McIver, Jim Upton, Dustin and Ray Rowe.
SPIRO -- Funeral services for Paula Claire Ellexson, 64, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mallory Funeral Chapel in Spiro, Okla., with the Rev. Fred Hegemeir officiating. Interment will follow at Spiro City Cemetery.
Daughter of the late Floyd and Esther Elizabeth Masters, she was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Iowa, and passed away Dec. 7, 1997, in the Ardmore hospital following an extended illness.
A former resident of Fort Smith, Ark., and Spiro, Paula moved to Ardmore in 1990. She was the widow of Ronald Ellexson, who died Dec. 26, 1991. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Lutheran school 10 years and public school nine years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ardmore.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Roberta Eley of Fort Smith, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Sherry Kranker of Coppell, Texas; a stepson, Gary Ellexson of Nevada, Texas; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six cousins; and a host of dear friends.
Memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church.
Services are under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
Funeral services for Winoma Mayfield Cox will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Winoma Mayfield Cox was born Aug. 22, 1911, at Coleman, to William E. and Lula Mae Robinson Smith. She died Dec. 8, 1997, in an Oklahoma City hospital following a brief illness.
She was married to Clifton B. "Tip" Mayfield at Tishomingo on March 6, 1932. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1965. She later married James R. Cox on Feb. 14, 1970, in Ardmore. He preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1977.
A longtime Ardmore resident, she retired from Continental Oil Co. following 18 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Hope Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Continental Retirees Club and Forty Two Club.
She was a special Mother, Grandmother, Sister and friend, always showering those about her with love, caring, strength and kindness. She will be missed very much in our daily lives, but we are thankful for the legacy of love she has left for those dear to her.
She is survived by two daughters, Deanna Mayfield Gordon, Aurora, Colo., Jane Mayfield Nance and her husband, Keith, Ardmore; a stepdaughter, Mary Joyce Woodley, Ardmore; two sisters, Gwen Beardsley and her husband, George, Dallas, and Okla Mae Smith, Dallas; five granddaughters, Jean and Ann Gordon, Kori Nance, Ceanne Brunk and Maridel Stout; two grandsons, Clif Gordon and Chris Nance; and four great-grandchildren.
Pall bearers will be Warren Gordon, Ryan Brunk, Matthew Groves, Steven West, Phillip Ross, Charles Coffey, Jess Cross and Wendell Ritchey. Honorary bearers will be Fred Gordon and Steve West.
Funeral services are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
Former Ardmore resident Don Alfred Clark Connick, 80, died Dec. 1, 1997, in Escondido, Calif., where he lived the past several years. No services were scheduled.
Born in Hay Springs, Neb., Connick lived in the Healdton and Ardmore areas approximately 12 years before moving to California in 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Clara, of the home; a son, Don E., Dubai, UAE; a daughter, Cathy Maxwell, Ardmore; and three grandchildren.
CHICKASHA -- Services for Annetisha Emylynn Craven, 14, Ardmore, will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Sevier Funeral Home chapel in Chickasha. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery.
Born to Wilbert E. and Shelly Holder Craven on Dec. 10, 1982, at Buffalo, she died Dec. 9, 1997, at her home.
She lived in Chickasha from 1983 until 1988, then in Arizona from 1988 until 1996 when she moved to Ardmore. She was a home-schooled student and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include her mother, Shelly Craven; and two brothers, Billy and Joseph, all of Ardmore; and grandmother, Lottie Williams, Chickasha. She was preceded in death by her father; and grandparents, Eunice and Joseph Holder and Wilbert and Lucille Craven.
