TISHOMINGO -- Graveside rites for Opal Shafner King, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Tishomingo Cemetery with the Rev. Perry Crisp officiating.
Mrs. King died Aug. 10, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital. She was born May 17, 1918, to Sid and Bessie Cloud Shafner.
She married Harold King Nov. 16, 1941, in Tishomingo and worked as a bookkeeper and secretary many years. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Michael, Tishomingo, and David, Durant; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Obrian; and a grandchild.
Smith Funeral Home will direct services.
WAPANUCKA -- Services for Jimmie Ruth Justus, 62, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Corbin Funeral Home with Cora Waggoner officiating. Interment wil be at Rosehill Cemetery.
Mrs. Justus died Aug. 11, 1998, in Tishomingo. She was born Sept. 28, 1935, at Big Cedar, to James A. and Viola Nichols Roberts.
Reared in Wapanucka, she moved to Tishomingo three years ago and was a member of Mannsville Holiness Mission Church.
She is survived by her husband, Otto, of the home; two sons, Kenneth Franks, Madill, and James Franks, Tishomingo; three brothers, J.R. and Ralph Roberts, Wapanucka, Wayne Roberts, Texas; five sisters, Opal Fuller, Antlers, Delores Brown, Marlow, Juanita Smith, Mineral Springs, Texas, Wilma Rodgers, Chickasha, and Evelea Bates, Stratford; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ova Roberts.
WILSON -- Graveside rites for James Monroe Boss, 35, Kingston, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crow Cemetery, southwest of Wilson, with the Rev. Parlee Russell officiating.
Boss died Aug. 9 1998, following an auto accident. He was born Nov. 13, 1962, at Orr.
Reared at Orr and Loco, he had lived the past few months in Kingston where he was employed by Jack Harrison Lawn Mower Service.
He is survived by a daughter, Tracy Lynn, Oklahoma City; his parents, Thomas and Ada Boss, Loco; five sisters, Jeannie Bear, Muskogee, Mary Davis, Fox, Dorothy Lee, Idabel, Carolyn Boatwright and Gracie Hearell, Kingston; three brothers, T.J. Boss, Healdton, Marion Baker, Orr, and Jack Eakins, Ringling.
Alexander Funeral Home will direct services.
Services for Lois L. James, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Donny Custar officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. James died Aug. 7, 1998, in Tucson, Ariz. She was born June 7, 1920, at Healdton, to pioneers John and Nora M. Shrader Drury.
She married Billy James Jr. Aug. 21, 1960, at Marietta, and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. The former Ardmore resident moved to Tucson in 1991. Her husband preceded her in death March 14, 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Coweta Hughes, Tucson; a brother, Onis Drury, Ratliff City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Services for Glennie Zellner will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Craddock Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Hays officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Zellner died Aug. 9 1998, in Denver. She was born Feb. 28, 1902, at Merit, Texas, to Arthur and Lucy McCraw Lynch.
She married Roy Milton Zellner Dec. 12, 1919, in Ardmore, and lived in this area until 1977 when she moved to Albuquerque, N.M., following the death of her husband in 1976. She had lived in Denver the past five years and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Floyd M., Albuquerque, and Edwin G., Denver; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Hamilton, Lena Minter and Wilma Givens; and a brother, Percy Lynch.
Bearers will be Dan Davis, Edwin Zellner Jr., Lyndon Pettijon, Charles Lynch, Wayne and Leon Zellner.
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Graveside rites for Ringling native Lindell Charles "Lynn" Bachhofer, 64, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth, Texas.
Bachhofer died Aug. 11, 1998, in Fort Worth. He was born Dec. 6, 1933, at Ringling.
He was retired from the highway department.
Survivors include two sons, Lindell, Fort Worth, and Brian, Idaho; two daughters, Patricia McElfresh, Alabama, and Nancy Jaco, Fort Worth; his mother, Thelma Bachhofer, Oklahoma; seven brothers; four sisters; and eight grandchildren.
TATUMS -- Services for Arnold "Dripper" Austin will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. S.M. Stevenson officiating. Interment will be at Tatums Cemetery under the direction of Bob Milburn Funeral Home, Ratliff City.
Austin died Aug. 11, 1998, in a Healdton health care facility. He was born March 23, 1923, at Tatums, to Jim and Lilly Belle Austin.
He graduated from Tishomingo High School, was drafted into military service and lived in Tulsa before returning to Tatums. He was a domestic worker and a Catholic. He and Myrtle Franklin were married July 10, 1978, at Gainesville, Texas.
Survivors include five sons, William Hooks, Denver, Armazeral Hooks, Oklahoma City, Earl, Robert and Dwayne Hooks, Tatums; four daughters, Portia Swendell, Tatums, Mary Kirkland, Ella Deschzer and Bonnie Hicks, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Arthur, Tatums, Bulb, Atlanta, Ga., and Don, Los Angeles; three sisters, Dorothy Alexander, Duncan, Leta Oliver, Tulsa, and Erma Jean, Los Angeles; 33 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Bearers will be Merle Pettis, Robert Hooks, Warren Hurley, Leonard, Ricky and Johnnie Austin.
Services for James B. "J.B." Carker, 59, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Monty Baggett officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4869 and graveside rites by Masonic Lodge No. 25, AF & AM.
Carker died Aug. 11, 1998, at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born April 10, 1939, at Galveston, Texas, to William J. and Anna Leifert Carker.
He served in the Army during the Korean conflict and received the Good Conduct Medal. He was a machinist and mechanic, employed by First Baptist Church before working at the Holiday Inn. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 25 AF & AM, at Lone Grove, Amaranth Court No. 34 in Ardmore, and VFW Post 4869 at Tishomingo. He and Voncell Vinson were married Aug. 8, 1964, in Ardmore.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Kit, Dallas; a daughter, Melissa Carker, Edmond; sister, Ruth Craft, Galveston, Texas; and three brothers, George, LaMarque, Texas, William, Santa Fe, Texas, and John, Las Vegas.
Bearers will be Gene Johnson, J.F. Godwin, Lee Piatt, Jim Whitfield, Gayle Morris, Randy Ritter, James Duty, Johnnie Burchett and Herb Rainbolt. Honorary bearers are members of Masonic Lodge and Rainbolt Sunday school class.
Services for Barber Christian will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Craddock Memorial Chapel with the Revs. John Bullard, Steve Robinson and Lowe officiating. interment will be at Newport Cemetery.
Christian died Aug. 12, 1998, in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1929, at Deese, to Henry and Nellie Bumgarner Christian.
He owned and operated a grocery store at Newport, was a farmer and had also worked in the oil fields and for the Oklahoma Highway Department. He and Shirley Balthrop were married Jan. 31, 1954, at Lone Grove. He was affiliated with the Freewill Baptist church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Sharlette Shans, Newport; two sons, Randy and Joe, Newport; a brother, J.C., Newport; two sisters, Maude Putnam, Springer, and Imogene Robinson, Newport; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marquetta Herring.
Bearers will be Raymond Seedig, Marshal Mitchell, Ralph Mullins Jr., George Kyle, Kenneth Miller and Donny Payne. Ceg Bray is honorary bearer.
MILO -- Services for John W. Pickens will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jehovah Baptist Church in Milo. Interment will be at Jehovah Cemetery under the direction of DeArman's Funeral Home, Wynnewood.
Pickens died Aug. 10, 1998. He was born March 26, 1912, to Ben and Martha Pickens.
He is survived by five daughters, Authur Ralison, California, Sammie Pickens, Milo, Enzerlean Newton, Phoenix, Ariz., Louise Jackson, Ardmore, and Melvine Stevenson, Oklahoma City; five sons, Johnny and Shermon, Wynnewood, Kerne, Oklahoma City, Hermon, Arlington, Texas, and Charlie, Columbia, S.C.; 42 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Lois L. James, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home chapel conducted by Rev. Donny Custar, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore.
Mrs. James, daughter of Indian Territory pioneers John and Nora Myrtle Shrader Drury, died Aug. 7, 1998, in a Tucson, Ariz., hospital.
Born June 7, 1920, at Healdton, Okla., she had lived in Tucson since 1991. A former Ardmore resident, she and Billy James Jr. were married Aug. 21, 1960, in Marietta. He preceded her in death March 14, 1990. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ardmore.
Survivors include a daughter, Coweta Hughes, Tucson, Ariz.; and brother, Onis Drury, Ratliff City, Okla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Serving as bearers will be Gary Nay, Leon Nay, Randy Drury, Steve Drury, Roy Don Bussell and Waylain McClain.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
RINGLING -- Services for Jessie G. Reed, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Whitley officiating. Interment will be at Grady Cemetery under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reed died Aug. 13, 1998, at her home in Grady. She was born March 9, 1910, in George, Ark.
She married Andy J. Reed Dec. 29, 1928, at Grady where she had lived all her adult life. She was a member of Jimtown Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Dean, Meridian, Texas, Pauline McGlocklin and Audrey Davis, Tishomingo; two sons, Bill, Grady, and Carl, Madill; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter on March 21, 1936; two sisters, Vida and Edna; and five brothers, Orvin, John, C.D. "Buck," Tim and Chock.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Robert Henry Pratt Sr., 58, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Corbin Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Troy Cemetery.
Pratt died Aug. 12, 1998 in Tishomingo. He was born Dec. 6, 1939, at Fort Edwards, N.Y., to Robert and Martha E. Rose Pratt.
He was a veteran of the Air Force and had lived in Reagan six years. He and Elizabeth Sue Jordan were married March 16, 1984, in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Sean, Tishomingo, and Robert II, England; daughters, Bobbie La Feavers, Tishomingo, Stacey Miller, Reagan, and Marlene Love, Ravia; stepson, Shawn Staats; and stepdaughters, Shala Staats and Serena Graham, all of Oklahoma City; his father and stepmother, Robert and Lillian Pratt, Fort Edwards; four brothers, Preston, Lubsy, Md., John, Albany, N.Y., Stanley, Fort Edwards, and Harold, Moore; a sister, Betty Green, Greenwich, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother; and brother, Ronald.
MARIETTA -- Services for Joyce Riley, 77, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Southwest Church of Christ with Larry Hinton and Tom Riley officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Riley died Aug. 13, 1998, in an Ardmore health care facility. She was born March 9, 1921, in Oklahoma City, to John Ridley and Mable Zachary.
She had lived most of her life in Love County and was a secretary at Marietta Sportswear before she retired. She and Carl J. "Dude" Riley were married in Oklahoma City. She was a member of Southwest Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Tom; and daughter, Julie Dill, all of Marietta; and sister, Margaret Owens, Albuquerque, N.M.
WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Services for former Ardmore resident Beautie B. Johnson Martin will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Mrs. Martin died Aug. 8, 1998, in Wichita Falls. She was born Nov. 15, 1907.
She moved from Ardmore to Wichita Falls and was the widow of Sidney Martin who died in 1992.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, among them, Dolly Williams, Ardmore.
