Memorial services for William Philip Douglass, 43, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. Wade Paschal.
William Philip Douglass was born April 16, 1955, in Ardmore. He died here Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, after an extended illness.
A graduate of Ardmore High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Returning here three years ago from Norman, Okla., where he had lived 20 years, Philip was associated with his father and brother in the oil and gas business.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark L. Douglass, Ardmore; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Shirley Douglass, Falconhead, Edward and Jodie Douglass, Ardmore, and Steve and Jane Douglass, Edmond; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Eric Melton, Ardmore; a niece, Elizabeth Douglass, Ardmore; and nephew, Will Douglass, Ardmore.
Honorary bearers include Mike Mordy, Ronnie Crosby, Buddy Simon, Jay Mike Newman, Joe Rison, Ben Roberts, Steve Hill and John Snider.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Cross Timbers Hospice.
Services will be directed by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
WILSON -- Services for Aubrey Rogers are pending from Alexander Funeral Home. He died Aug. 20, 1998, in the Healdton hospital.
Among his survivors are his wife Lois, of the home; a son, Gene, Denton, Texas; and daughter, Mary Curran, Healdton.
DAVIS -- Services for Jessie Gardenhire will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Christ with Thomas Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gardenhire died Aug. 17, 1998, in Warwick, N.Y. She was born June 11, 1906, at Allen, Indian Territory, to Collin A. and Ada B. Donaghey Wilkins.
She married T.A. "Thad" Gardenhire March 23, 1928, at Madill, and had lived in the Davis area most of her life. Her husband preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1980.
Survivors are three daughters, Jean Crabtree, Warwick, Gay N. Crabtree, Raleigh, N.C., and Joye V. May, Vasser, Kan.; a son, Gary W., Norman; a sister, Amogene Pearson, Greenbelt, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Damon Gardenhire, Max, Ron, Kelly and Layne Wilkins.
WILSON -- Graveside services for Daisy Emiline Campbell are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson with the Rev. Jim Gilliam officiating.
Born Dec. 23, 1906, in Carter, Ark., to Balius Griffin and Amanda Miranda Lewis, she passed this life on Aug. 19, 1998, at her residence in Ardmore at the age of 91.
She married Freedom Lyndall Campbell in Elkins, Ark., on March 9, 1925. They were married for 63 years before he died. She had been a resident of Ardmore for 43 years. She was a homemaker and a very good Christian woman.
Mrs. Campbell blessed us all with her gift of kindness and compassion. She was always concerned for other people before herself. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Trantham of Richardson, Texas, Frieda Gunter of Wilson, and Kathy Campbell of Ardmore; a son, Bill Campbell, of Midland, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
MADILL -- Services for Billie Deloris Bradley, 64, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crossroads Baptist Church with Eric Dennis officiating. Interment will be at Woodberry Forest Cemetery under the direction of Watts Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bradley died Aug. 19, 1998, at her home after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 3, 1933, at Lakeview, Texas.
She married Kenneth R. Bradley at Portales, N.M., on Oct. 7, 1950, and lived many years in Riverside, Calif., before moving to Madill in 1989. She was a member of Madill Art Club and Crossroads Baptist Church. Her husband preceded her in death Nov. 5, 1994.
Survivors include three sons, Kenny P., Seymour, Mo., Mick D., Edmond, and Gregory A., Wildomar, Calif.; her mother, Nellie Bevers; and two sisters, Glenys Moore and Valerie Shaw, Madill; two brothers, Ben Bevers, Palm Springs, Calif., and Robert Bevers, Farmington, N.M.; and 10 grandchildren.
Bearers will be Harrel Rudolph, Ben and Robert Bevers, Jim, Greg, Mick and Ken Bradley.
Services for Tommie Ellis, 91, are pending from Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. She died Aug. 20, 1998, in a local health care facility.
Funeral services for Virtie E. Tanner, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Claud Williams officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Tanner was born to the late Charles Franklin and Lenora Elizabeth Griffin on Jan. 19, 1910, at Sugdon, Okla., and died Aug. 18, 1998, in a Shawnee health care facility.
She had lived in the Springer and Ardmore areas until 1994 when she moved to Shawnee. She married Quinby A. Tanner on Aug. 26, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She is survived by two sisters, Elsie Akers of Syracuse, Kan., and Lena Moore of Panhandle, Texas; grandchildren, Brenda Jane Tabor, Gregg and Brian Plumlee, Steven Prince and Sidney Roy; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded by two daughters, Sandra Ann Tanner Plumlee in 1976, and Roberta Sue Tanner Freeman in 1981.
Bearers will be Lois Meek, Connie Mack Sikes, Don Cox, Jack Parker, Jim Dennis and Ray Griffin.
MARIETTA -- Services for Jackie Pierce, 49, Leon, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwight Hawkins officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pierce died Aug. 19, 1998, at the local hospital. She was born Oct. 23, 1948, at Gainesville, Texas.
She graduated from Marietta High School in 1966 and moved from here to Leon in 1970. She was secretary at Leon school four years and 14 years at Turner school. She and Herschel Pierce were married April 27, 1970, at Gainesville, Texas. She was a member of Leon Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons, Rodney, Marietta, Kevin and Justin, Leon; a stepdaughter, Sheila Nipp, Overbrook; her father, R.F. Dees; and mother, Kathryn Dees, Marietta; a brother, Charles Laney, Edgerton, Mo.; sister, Verla J. Lamb, Houston; and two stepgranddaughters.
Bearers will be Jim Coble, Johnny Hartman, Larry Pendleton, Jimmy Tynes, Steve Short and James Miller. Honorary bearers are Joanne Coble, Connie Hartman, Joyce Hallum, Brenda Short, Lynda Tynes, Imogene Palmer, Debbie Ramon and Brenda Hull.
SULPHUR -- Services for Hardy W. Mize, 95, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Malphrus officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mize died Aug. 18, 1998, in Sulphur. He was born March 16, 1903, at Poteau, to Marion W. and Margaret B. Shipman Mize.
Reared in the Poteau area, he had lived in Sulphur since 1928 and was a member of Vinita Avenue Church of Christ. He was a farmer. He and Addie J. Smothers were married Oct. 7, 1923, at LeFlore. She preceded him in death Nov. 4, 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Lawson Wolf, Midwest City; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded by a daughter, Audine Nelson; a son, Robert; a brother; and a sister.
Bearers will be Steven Trout, Joshua and Todd Lawson, Marion, Robbie and Kenny Howard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Clagg Funeral Home.
Funeral services for W. Irene "Aunt Rene" Coffey, 87, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Harvey-Douglas Chapel. Dr. Alton Fannin, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Irene was born June 10, 1911, in Ardmore, to Charles Preston and Mattie Ridley Herndon. She died Aug. 8, 1998, at her home.
She married Leo W. Coffey June 30, 1934, in Ardmore. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1978. She had lived in Ardmore her entire life.
Aunt Rene was an accomplished seamstress who retired from Daube's Department Store, where she had worked several years. She was a member of Lydia Sunday school class and First Baptist Church, where she taught in the children's Sunday school department. Irene was a loving and caring person who enjoyed family and friends.
She is survived by two sisters, Vergie Morris, Ardmore, and Dorothy Rodgers, Albuquerque, N.M.; nieces; nephews; and a host of longtime, loving friends.
Bearers will be Charles Swindell, Kent Butts, John DeHart, Tator Harrison, Jay Swindell and Billy Ray Cross.
Services for Ora Mae Arnold, 98, are pending from Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Mrs. Arnold died Aug. 9, 1998, in a local health care facility.
She is survived by a daughter, Aline Harrell, Ardmore; two grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Helen Kirby Cain are pending from Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home. Mrs. Cain died Aug. 10, 1998, in the local hospital.
She is survived by her husband, James, of the home; a son, John, Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Nancy Ponder, Pleasanton, Calif.; a brother, Holt Kirby, Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren.
Graveside rites for former Ardmore resident Lottie Wade Lewis Dowdy Holt will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home.
Mrs. Holt died Aug. 8, 1998, in Oklahoma City. She was born April 12, 1912, at Pontycymmer, Glamorgan, South Wales, to Elizabeth and Thomas Lewis.
Reared in Wales, she moved to McAlester in 1927 and later to Ardmore, where she was employed by the Town Tavern and Goodwin Cleaners. She married Jim Dowdy in 1963 and lived in Kingston before moving to Oklahoma City. She became a United States citizen in 1967.
She is survived by a stepsister, Lindy Chiarmonte, Phoenix. She was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Pierce.
BURNEYVILLE -- Services for Alice C. Gipson, 63, Mustang, were 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at Turner School Auditorium with the Rev. John Sconce officiating. Interment followed at Leon Cemetery.
Born Aug. 4, 1935, at Jimtown to Elmer Thomas and Essie Marie Strickland Reed, she died Aug. 6, 1998, at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was preceded in death by her father; and a sister, Ruthie Mae Mullins.
Mrs. Gipson had lived in Mustang since 1972, moving from Oklahoma City. She married Wayne Gipson in 1953 at Gainesville, Texas. She was a housewife and worked part time at Gipson Trim Supply. She was a member of the Lakehoma Church of Christ.
Survivors include her mother, Leon; husband, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Garland and Cindy Gipson, and Ray Gipson, all Oklahoma City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherlene and Gene Robertson and Christi and Clark Rose, all of Mustang; five brothers, John Reed, Overbrook, Austin Reed, Ardmore, Alvie Reed and Donnie Reed, both Leon, and Ronald Reed, Midwest City; one sister, Elizabeth Campbell, Wynnewood; and five grandchildren, Regena Robertson, Renee Robertson, Shawn Rose, Krystal Rose and Caty Gipson.
Bearers were Garland Gipson, Harlan Mullins, Mark Reed, Dewayne Reed, Randy Franklin, Randy Reed, Greg Campbell and Shane Reed.
Services were under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
HEALDTON -- Services for Iva Price, 87, are pending from Reser Funeral Home. Mrs. Price died Aug. 9, 1998, in a local health care facility.
WILSON -- Services for Gladys R. "Babe" Tuck, 86, are pending from Alexander Funeral Home. Mrs. Tuck died Aug. 9, 1998, at her residence in Ardmore.
She is survived by a brother, H.C. "Henry" Russell, Ardmore.
