Funeral services for Helen Kirby Cain will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Monty Baggett officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Cain was born to the late Jesse and Nannie Kirby on Dec. 25, 1912, in Ardmore. She died Aug. 10, 1998, in the local hospital.
She married James L. Cain on March 14, 1936, in Ardmore.
Mrs. Cain lived in Virginia for two years and the remainder of her life in Ardmore. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she attended Dorcuas Sunday school class. She loved to play bridge with her friends and loved visits from her children and their families.
She is survived by her husband, James L. Cain, of the home; a son, Mike Cain, and his wife, Vickie, of Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter, Nancy Ponder, and her husband, Joe, of Pleasanton, Calif.; a brother, Hoyt Kirby of Oklahoma City; and four grandchildren, Kerri and Lori Kepner and Greg and David Cain.
Pallbearers will be Billy Martin, Everett Watkins, Hugh DeWoody, Ancel Dickson, Jack Wilkes and Kermit Adams.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or First Baptist Church.
Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home will direct services.
Services for J.B. Carker, 59, are pending from Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. He died Aug. 11, 1998, at his home.
Among his survivors are his wife, Voncell, of the home; a son, Kit, Irving, Texas; and daughter, Melissa Carker, Carrollton, Texas.
SULPHUR -- Services for Evelyn B. Branham, 80, are pending from Clagg Funeral Home. She died Aug. 9, 1998, in Harrah.
TULSA -- Services for former Ardmore resident Stephanie Denise White-Ford will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ninde Woodland Funeral Home chapel in Tulsa.
She was born Aug. 4, 1961, in Tulsa.
Survivors include her children, Steven, Shawna and Chey; her mother, Barbara White; her father, Stanley White; and brothers, Charles and Stanley II.
Memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Spirit, Episcopal Youth Group, 10901 S. Yale, Tulsa, OK 74137.
MARIETTA -- Services for Billie Dean Williams, 62, were at 10:30 a.m. today at Kennedy Funeral Home chapel with Paul Jackson officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery.
Williams died Aug. 9, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital. He was born June 27, 1936, at Orr, to Jessie and Belvie N. Williams.
He moved to Ardmore from Pauls Valley in 1975. He attended the Pentecostal Holiness church.
Survivors include a brother, Ardell; and sister, Joy F. Williams, Ardmore; three stepbrothers, Elvin Jackson, Marietta, J.M. Jackson, Ratliff City, and Gene Jackson, Courtney; two stepsisters, Lucille Sloan, Marietta, and Christine Jones, Lone Grove. He was preceded in death by a twin sister, Betty Williams, on May 6, 1980; stepbrother, Loyd Jackson, on June 4, 1995; and stepfather, William Jackson, on March 18, 1985.
HEALDTON -- Services for Iva Price, 87, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Wearthy Shank officiating. Interment will be at Mount Olive Cemetery under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
Mrs. Price died Aug. 9,1998, in a local health care facility. She was born March 30, 1911, in Healdton, to Samuel E. and Rhoda Pearson Allen.
A resident of Healdton most of her life, she married Vachel Price here Feb. 16, 1935, and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in WMU. Her husband preceded her in death on June 26, 1989.
Survivors include a son, Randall, Gladewater, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be James R. and Randall Price Jr., Daniel Rainwater, Butch Barbour, David Bingman, Jesse and Johnny Allen. Cotton Allen is honorary bearer.
RINGLING -- Services for Vara E. Vansickle, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. J. W. Ray will officiate, with interment in Ringling Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Vansickle died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in the Healdton hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1918, at Centerpoint to Johnny and Alma Melton Copeland.
A graduate of Ringling High School, she lived most of her life in the Ringling area and was the first director of the nutrition center for senior citizens. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She and Sid Vansickle were married in 1939, in Montague, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; a daughter, Pat Hovastak, Edmond; a brother, Auby Copeland, Soper; two half brothers, Tom Allen and David Allen, Ringling; a half sister, Jean Gaines, Duncan; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Copeland.
Bearers will be Mike Brooks, Jim and Steve Howard, Mike Moore, Charlie Skinner and Terry Snell. Honorary bearers are Hollis Dickey, Mike Turner, Don Howard and Junior Ogle.
WILSON -- Services for Gladys R. "Babe" Tuck, 86, Ardmore, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ash Street Church of Christ in Wilson with the Rev. Wayne Howard officiating. Interment will be at Hewitt Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tuck died Aug. 9, 1998, at her home in Ardmore. She was born July 19, 1912, at Hewitt, to Henry M. and Willie E. Renzelman Russell.
Reared in Hewitt and Wilson, she attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University and received her business degree from Central State University. She taught school one year before beginning her career in the oil and gas leasing business.
She is survived by a brother, H.C. "Henry" Russell, Ardmore. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jena Vave; a son, Curtis Ray Stamps; a sister, Eloise; and brother, Fred.
Bearers will be James and Travis Layton, Larry Wilkes, Sammy Roe Jr., Paul Tucker and Randy Cramer.
Services for Ora Mae Arnold, 98, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Garry W. Harrell officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Grove Cemetery.
Born Feb. 25, 1900, at Collinsville, Texas, to the late James and Melinda "Janie" Medlock Scantlin, she died Aug. 9, 1998, in Ardmore.
Crossing the Red River in a covered wagon as a little girl, she lived with the family near Brock until her marriage to James Edgar Arnold on Sept. 21, 1919, at Newport, Okla. They lived north of Lone Grove, Okla., until his death in 1961, at which time she moved to Ardmore to live closer to her only daughter.
Loved by all that knew her, she enjoyed her ability to remain virtually independent and self-sufficient until very late in life. Friends and neighbors could always find her busy building a "shed," working in her garden or repairing a fence even when she was well in her 60s. Poor health eventually forced her to move to an Ardmore health care facility, where she lived the last several years. She was a charter member of Blue Ribbon Baptist Church.
Although she will be missed by her family who remain, they know that she is enjoying a long-awaited family reunion with those who have preceded her, especially her "dear, sweet Momma" that she always spoke of with great fondness.
She is survived by her daughter, Aline Evelyn Harrell, Ardmore; two grandsons, Larry J. Harrell and his wife, Dea, and Garry W. Harrell and his wife, Olga, all of Ardmore; 10 great-grandchildren, Christine Cripps, Melissa Bonner, Christopher Harrell, Mimi Harrell, James Harrell, Isaiah Harrell, Patience Harrell, Victoria Harrell, Angelica Harrell and Josiah Harrell; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Jacob Bonner, Jeremy Bonner, Jerrid Bonner, Cody Harrell, Logan Harrell, Mackenzie Cripps and Tarah Harrell. Six brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Larry Harrell, Christopher Harrell, James Harrell, Jim Bonner, Jacob Bonner and Marshell Scantlin.
SULPHUR -- Services for Adeltha Dee Anderson, 67, Roff, are pending from Clagg Funeral Home. She died Aug. 9, 1998, in Ada.
MARIETTA -- Services for Lee Blackburn, 76, are pending from Kennedy Funeral Home. He died Sunday in the local hospital.
MINCO -- Services for Loretta "Merle" Shepperd, 73, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Minco First Baptist Church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shepperd died Aug. 9, 1998, in Oklahoma City. She was born Sept. 29, 1924, at Springer, to Polk and Clara Charles Brewer.
She had lived in Minco since 1945 and was the widow of George Washington Shepperd who died June 30, 1976.
Survivors include a son, George Jr., Minco; three sisters, Ozelle Webb, Doris Allen and Neta Gibson, all of Ardmore; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ernest Edward Smith, 86, will be at 10 am. Thursday in Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Leo Potts officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Grove Cemetery.
The son of James Edward and Lydia Carnathan Smith, he was born Sept. 20, 1911, in Hugo, and passed away on Aug. 23, 1998, in the local hospital.
He and the former Iva Brummitt were married on May 25, 1933, in Ardmore, Okla.
Mr. Smith had been a Lone Grove resident most of his life. He was the owner and operator of the E&E Trailer Service for more than 18 years, retiring in August 1986. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Iva, of the home; a daughter, Marsha Nichols and husband, Lee, of Lone Grove; three sons, Kenneth Smith and wife, Kay, of Templeton, Calif., A.B. Smith and wife, Carolyn, of Ardmore, and Donnie Smith and wife, Marolyn, of Lone Grove; brothers, Hershel Smith of Arroya Grande, Calif., and Manuel Smith of Lone Grove; a sister, Emma Lois Sullivan of Lone Grove, 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ernestine Dickerson; a son, Perry Smith; two brothers; and four sisters.
Bearers will be Scott Smith, Donnie Ray Smith, Steven Smith, Mike Smith, Chad Nichols and Casey Sullivan. Honorary bearers will be all the grandsons.
PICKENS -- Wake for Gilbert Isom "Fat" Christie, 69, will be at 5 p.m. today at Pickens Baptist church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with Jimmy Royal officiating.
Christie died Aug. 25, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital. He was born June 9, 1929, at McMillan, to Edward and Mina Pickens Christie.
He is survived by a son, James, Oakland; daughter, Gilberta Christie, McMillan; four brothers, Aaron, Lone Grove, Leroy, Dickson, Elmer and Frank, McMillan; two sisters, Ella Ross, Ardmore, and Leona Orphan, McMillan; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Kenneth Fixico, Matthew Roberts, Rodney and Lloyd Ross, Ricky and James Christie Jr.
Watts Funeral Home will direct services.
MADILL -- Services for Steven Lynn Behrens, 40, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Watts Memorial Chapel with Frank Pennington officiating. Interment will be at Mannsville Cemetery.
Behrens died Aug. 25, 1998, in the local hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1957, in Oklahoma City.
He had lived in the Mannsville area since 1972 and had been a truck driver. His faith was Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Tanner, Lone Grove; daughter, Kourtni Behrens, Ardmore; his parents, Bill and Flo Behrens, Madill; two brothers, Kenny, Ardmore, and Ron, Madill; a sister, Cozetta Wallace, Yukon; grandmothers, Ruby Behrens, Mannsville, and Louise Bearden, Enos.
Bearers will be Steve West, Steve Hall, Curtis Dugan, Chad Selvy, Mikel, Robert and Charlie Bearden Jr.
