TISHOMINGO -- Services for Joe L. Ratliff, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Crisp officiating. Interment will be at Tishomingo Cemetery under the direction of Corbin Funeral Home.
Ratliff died Sept. 19, 1998, in Tishomingo where he was born June 14, 1914, to Joe S. and Ruth White Ratliff.
Reared in Tishomingo, he attended Murray State College and served as a master sergeant in the Air Force during World War II, 1939-44. He retired as a composer with the Fort Worth Star Telegram in 1978 and returned to Tishomingo more than a year ago. He was a member of Elks Lodge of Bozman, Mont., American Legion and International Typographical Union. He and Nora Barnes were married Dec. 31, 1944, in Tishomingo. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Ilene Ratliff, Dallas, and Theressa Anderson, Long Beach, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ilene Smith.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Walter Elmer Walker, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Jacobs officiating. Interment will be at Tishomingo Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Walker died Sept. 19, 1998, in Oklahoma City. He was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Tishomingo, to Cecil and Myrtle Henson Walker.
A resident of Johnston County much of his life, he served in the Army during World War II and was a former employee of the Katy Railroad. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include two brothers, Arthur "Ott" Biggs, Tishomingo, and Roy Biggs, Shawnee. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jewel Walker.
Bearers will be Mann Foster, Floyd Box, Guy Combs, Kenneth Robinson, Calvin and Junior Whitworth.
RINGLING -- Services for William Nichols are pending from Alexander Funeral Home. He died Sept. 20, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital.
Among his survivors is his wife, May, of the home.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Jackie Sue Pitchlynn, 63, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Indian Baptist Church with the Revs. David Lewis and Pete Wall officiating. Interment will be at Condon Grove Cemetery under the direction of Corbin Funeral Home.
Born May 6, 1935, at Tishomingo, to Eli and Bettie Brown Pitchlynn, she died Sept. 20, 1998, in Ada.
She attended school in Tishomingo and was a member of First Indian Baptist Church. She was a home care provider.
Survivors include a brother, Barney "Chock" James, Tishomingo; and sister, Myrtle Sweeten, Milburn. She was preceded in death by a brother, Creighton Pitchlynn; sister, Helen Beaver; half brother, Henry James; half sister, Alice Hamilton; and twin sister, Isabelle.
MARLOW -- Services for retired Air Force Col. Jene Doyle Hunter, will be at 2 p.m. today at Marlow First Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Hinson officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at Marlow Cemetery.
Hunter, 69, died Sept. 18, 1998, in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Aug. 10, 1929, at Wilson, to William M. and Mayme Howington Hunter.
He graduated from Wilson High School in 1947, attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from San Francisco State University. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He and Jo Ann Walker were married July 6, 1956, at Marlow.
Survivors include his wife, of the home in Midwest City; two daughters, Susan Wehba, Jackson, Miss., and Shel Hunt, Midwest City; his mother, Mayme Hunter, Ardmore; and two grandchildren.
Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home will direct services.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Fannie Cleo Hughes Bass, 100, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Crisp officiating. Interment will be at Tishomingo Cemetery.
Mrs. Bass died Sept. 20, 1998, in Tishomingo. She was born March 20, 1898, at Connerville Indian Territory, to Austin B. and Mamie M. Cravatt Hughes.
She attended the Indian boarding school and married Grady L. Bass Dec. 19, 1919, at Tishomingo. The lifelong Tishomingo resident was a homemaker and the oldest member of First Baptist Church where she was active in the Baptist women's group.
She is survived by two sisters, Ida Bell Martin, Tishomingo, and Cordelia "D.A." Robertson, Puyallup, Wa. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Vivian McGilberry, Mamie Kemp, Almeda Driver, Vannoy Hughes, and Flora Tabor; and two brohters, Jeff and A.B. Hughes.
Corbin Funeral Home will direct services.
MARIETTA -- Services for Lenora B. Grice, 87, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Eastside Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Sampson and Steve Gardner officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Mrs. Grice died Sept. 21, 1998, at her residence. She was born Oct. 8, 1910, in Love County, to Newt and Molinda J. Findley Hilton.
She had lived in Love County all her life and was married to George Grice Sept. 25, 1930, at Marietta. Her faith was Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Billy R., Marietta; four daughters, Betty Lemons, Bomar, Dorothy Sampson, Fort Worth, Texas, Jean Rains, Marietta, and Carolyn Rains, Thackerville; a sister, Callie Sweeney, Marietta; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Billy G.; daughter, Shirley Clark; grandson; three sisters; and two brothers.
Bearers will be Hubert Sampson, Bernie Lemons, Charles Clark, Bub Peery, Wayne and Roy Rains. Honorary bearers are grandchildren.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home.
Services for Sybil L. Seedig are pending from Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Mrs. Seedig died Sept. 21, 1998 following an extended illness.
She is survived by her husband, H. Troy, of the home.
WILSON -- Services for former Wilson resident William R. Nichols, 75, recently of Ringling, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy May officiating. Interment will be at Hewitt Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Nichols died Sept. 20, 1998, in Ardmore. He was born July 4, 1923, at Dillard, to John and Ruby L. Williams Nichols.
Reared in this area, he lived in Arkansas, Amarillo, Texas and was in and out of Wilson often, finally moving here in 1978. He was a roofer and carpenter 47 years before he retired. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Dan Nichols; his parents; and a sister, Mary Lou.
Survivors include a beloved companion and friend of 19 years, May Webb, of the home in Ringling; three daughters, Connie McAlister of Spiro, Linda and Norma Nichols both of Ozark, Ark.; four sons, Johnny Nichols of Evansville, Ark., Ronnie, Dennis and Sammy Nichols, all of Ozark; five stepdaughters, Shelly Dewitt of Ringling, Tommie Fields of Wilson, Karen Rapier, Nelta Armstrong and Joy Emberling all of Healdton; a stepson, Kelly Webb of Stillwater; four sisters, Alene Chambers and Martha Wright both of Amarillo, Texas, Wynona Laaker of Springfield, Ill., and Nell Lubeske of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Elmer Nichols of Amarillo, and Leroy Nichols of Brazoria, Texas; 25 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Claude Williams, Glenn Emberling, Steve Rapier, Jonathan Dewitt, Dusty Fields and Roy Slawson. Honorary bearers are grandsons.
PAULS VALLEY -- Services for former Ardmore resident Mae Belle McGregor, 89, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stufflebean Funeral Home in Pauls Valley. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mrs. McGregor died Sept. 21, 1998, in Pauls Valley. She was born May 8, 1909, in Jackson County Indian Territory, to Tom C. and Maudie B. Hokett Winters.
She had lived in the Wynnewood and Ardmore areas the past 16 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton McGregor; and daughter, Kathleen; two brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include six children, Wanda Morrison, Frederick, Bill McGregor, Wynnewood, Mildred Walker, Gene Autry, Emma Stephens and Kenneth McGregor, Ardmore, and Tommy McGregor, Norman; three brothers, J.W. Winters, Lawton, Lowe and Alfred Winters; and two sisters, Sara Wark and Maudie McKee, California; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
RYAN -- Services for Ardmore native Juanita Francis Way Howard, 76, were at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with Clarence Mize officiating. Interment was at Hewitt Cemetery, Wilson.
Mrs. Howard died Sept. 20, 1998, in Comanche County. She was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Ardmore to Frank J. and Bertha Stewart Way.
She attended school at Lone Grove and married Junior Thelston Howard June 20, 1939. After moving to the Ryan area in 1962 she worked as a cook and nurses aide 12 years.
Survivors include two sons, Bill, Moore, and Jim, Wilson; four daughters, Pernell Williams and Dorotha Cathey, Ryan, Junnie Surratt, Duncan, and Betty Weatherly, Courtey; two brothers, Rayford and Fred Way; two sisters, Aubrene Bowles and JoAnn Johnson, all of Wilson; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Dale; five brothers; and a sister.
Morehead-Goetz Funeral Home directed services.
MADILL -- Services for Mildred Louise Pratt, 68, Oakland, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Watts Memorial Chapel with Richard Jones officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery.
Mrs. Pratt died Sept. 24, 1998, in a Denison, Texas hospital. She was born Nov. 10, 1929, at Seminole.
Reared in Little City, she graduated from Madill High School in 1947 and married T.D. Pratt July 3, 1948, at Gainesville, Texas. She worked at First National Bank and Madill Bank and Trust Co. for a total of 35 years. She was a member of Madill Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Tommy, Broken Arrow; daughter, Kay Pratt, Boulder, Colo.; brother, Bobby Johnston; sister, LaVern Cathey; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Joe Green, Eugene Harris, Jim Stewart, David Dunn, Jimmy Splawn, Bill Wyatt, Mark Ehlo and Robert Watts. Honorary are Curt Boles, Otis Wilson, Cleo Sandefur, George Putman, Bobby Rogers and Tommy Brown.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Robert Preston Brigance Sr. will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in McClure Chapel at First United Methodist Church, Ardmore. Interment will be a Rose Hill Cemetery.
Robert Brigance, 83, passed away peacefully Sept. 21, 1998, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was one of four children born to Preston M. Brigance and Elizabeth "Bess" Brigance on Dec. 5, 1914.
Bob was born and raised in Ardmore, Okla. He graduated from Ardmore High School and attended the University of Oklahoma. Bob worked as an instrument technician for AMINCO and later Baxter Travenol Laboratories. He retired gracefully in 1980. Bob, as he was known, to his friends and family, was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bob always looked forward to new adventures and the journey to get there. He enjoyed the beach and deep sea fishing, boxing, dancing, reading, watching old westerns, hamburgers and the big bands. He especially enjoyed golf and bowling, contributing to many workplace championship teams. Bob's life revolved around his immediate family and was happiest when spending time with them, including his canine buddy, Sneakers.
He is survived by two loving children, Robert Jr. (Linda), and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick (Cecil); three grandsons, Jon M. Brigance, Chad M. Brigance and Shane W. Moore; one great-granddaughter, Alexis C. Moore; a sister, Kathryn Cralle, Oklahoma City; and brother, Edwin Brigance, Paris, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlein L Brigance; and an infant brother, Charles Donald Brigance.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association or National Association for the Deaf.
Larkin Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
WILSON -- Services for Gail Grissom, 32, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Les Hacker officiating. Interment will be at Simon Cemetery under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
Mrs. Grissom died Sept. 24, 1998 following an auto accident. She was born Aug. 6, 1966, at Wilson and had lived here all her life. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1984 and married Jack Ward Grissom May 11, 1985, at Gainesville, Texas. She was an associate at Circuit City warehouse.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sunny Grissom; and son, J.W., all of the home; her parents, D.C. and Bonnie Hodges, Wilson; two brothers, Danny Hodges, Dallas, and Dennis Hodges, Wilson; eight sisters, Bonnie Jackson, Courtney, Mindy Hodges, Dallas, Amy Hodges, Crystal Hodges, Brenda Graham, Sherri Way , Judy Hacker, and Diana McMahan, all of Wilson.
Bearers will be Sonny Grissom, Marty Taylor, Vick McMahan, Randall Jackson, Tommy Way, Les Hacker, Dennis and Danny Hodges.
SULPHUR -- Services for Doris Jean Schwake, 70, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cowley-Krien Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Gary Brandt and Wayne Edgar officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Schwake died Sept. 24, 1998, in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born Feb. 7, 1928, at Sapulpa, to Erwin and Lois J. Brock Whitwell.
She lived in Ada 12 years and married James Melvin Schwake Feb. 14, 1947, then moved to Sulphur that year. She was a baker and member of the Lutheran church.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons, James, Leachfield, Ariz., Capt. Jon, Eglin, Fla., and Charlie, Sulphur; two daughters, Mary Howard, Okmulgee, and Nancy Huffman, Guthrie; two brothers, Charles Whitwell, Sugarland, Texas, and Jay Whitwell, Tulsa; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
