Services for John C. Simpler, Lone Grove, will be 11 a.m. Monday at the House of Prayer with the Rev. Larry Murray officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born March 3, 1938 at Gainesville, Texas, he died Oct. 23, 1998 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Simpler, 1978.
Simpler had lived most of his life in the Lone Grove and Ardmore area. He married Peggie Marr on April 16, 1974 at Ardmore. He was the owner and operator of the Heartland Distributing Company. He was also a member of the House of Prayer, past president of the Lone Grove Planning Commission, former member of the Masonic Lodge, past president of the Ardmore Shrine Club, member of the Associated Home Builders and was a real estate broker.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, David Simpler, Ardmore; two daughters, Lorie Lee and Kelly Archer, Lone Grove; mother, Kathryn Simpler, Ardmore; two brothers, Ron and Steve Simpler, Ardmore; and five grandchildren.
Bearers are Danny Puckett, Tony Hunt, Bobby Gene Wells, John Vaughn, Scott Rouse, Harold Wayne Dudley, Terry Ferrell and Steve Turner. Honorary bearers are Erwin Dunham and Bob Inselman.
Services are under the direction of Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home.
MARIETTA -- Services for Alma Faye Stevens, 72, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
Born Feb. 22, 1926 at Leon to Mason and Lillie Mae King Westmoreland, she died Oct. 23, 1998 at an Ardmore hospital. She married W.T. Stevens on Sept. 21, 1946 at Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rowena Westmoreland and five brothers. Leonard, Cecil, Dutch, Burris and Kenneth Westmoreland.
Ms. Stevens lived all of her life in Love County. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Marietta. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and family outings such as picnics.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Ronald Stevens, Denton, Texas; one daughter, Katheryn Faulkenberry, Norman; brother and sisters-in-law, Bobby Mason and Carolyn Westmoreland, Ardmore, and Lou Ellen Westmoreland, Marietta; three grandchildren, Steven Faulkenberry, Michael Faulkenberry and Suzanne Faulkenberry; and several nieces and nephews.
Bearers are Jim Greenwood, Gerry Westmoreland, Kenneth Westmoreland, Jackie Barnes, Junior Westmoreland and Raymond Pratt. Honorary bearers are Dr. J. T. O'Connor Jr., Dr. Vergil Smith, Winsome Sunday School Class and Catherine Fannin.
Services are under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
TISHOMINGO ‹ Services for Ada Ruth Tolbert Vallee, 67, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Troy Cemetery.
She was born April 12, 1931, to Elvie and Cleo Standifer Tolbert. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elvie Toblert Jr. and Clarence ³Smokey² Tolbert; and one son, David M..
Mrs. Vallee was a graduate of Ravia High School. She attended Eastfield College at Mesquite, Texas. She worked as a technician in the electronics and fiber optics industry. She had lived in Richardson, Texas, for 30 years before moving to Reagan.
Survivors include five daughters, Carol Crouch, Susan Sexton, Diana Simpson and Sheryl Vallee Bird, all of Sulphur, and Marcia Vallee, Yukon; one son, John ³Skip,² Reagan; two brothers, E.J. Tolbert, Tishomingo, and Bob Tolbert, Reagan; two sisters, Delpha Diehl, Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Jane Haslam, Coventry, R.I.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Services for Stormy Suzanne Theriot, 9, are pending from Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home. Stormy died Oct. 25, 1998, in the local hospital. She was a student at Lincoln Elementary School.
Survivors include her father, Timothy Theriot, Wichita Falls, Texas; her mother, Dorothy Mae Theriot, Ardmore; a sister, Autumn Marie Moody, of the home; and grandparents, Suzanne Bamburg and Marvin K. Bamburg, Ardmore.
SULPHUR -- Services for Elmer Nell "Pug" Howe, 86, Nebo, are pending from Clagg Funeral Home. Mrs. Howe died Oct. 25, 1998, in Monticello, Ark.
SULPHUR -- Services for Warden Joe Byers, 81, are pending from Cowley-Krein Funeral Home. Byers died Oct. 24, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Ellease, of the home; a daughter, Charlotte Robertson, Missouri City, Texas; three sons, David Joe Byers, Hickory, Mike and Gerry Laxton, Sulphur; three brothers, Glenn, Navasota, Texas, Freeman, Irving, Texas, and Frank, Celeste, Texas; a sister, Helen Hall, Greenville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside rites for George V. "Bick" Hunter, 81, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born to George Virgil and Belle Zora Daniel Hunter on Nov. 14, 1916, in Ardmore, he passed away on Oct. 24, 1998, in the local hospital.
Mr. Hunter married the former Louise Ely on Sept. 16, 1939, in Ardmore.
He had lived in Ardmore most of his life and was a graduate of Ardmore High School. He attended Northwestern University and majored in journalism. George later became the executive vice president of the Don Kemper Advertising Agency in Chicago. After he retired he joined SMY Media Inc. as a consultant.
Mr. Hunter served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge March 25, 1946. George was a family man who loved his family and they loved him. He was proud of his family accomplishments, which were many.
Survivors include his wife, Louise, of the home; a special nephew and his wife, John and Margo Harkreader of Lafayette, La.; and their children, Alan Harkreader of Breaux Bridge, La., and Jennifer McCarra of Slydell, La.; other dear nieces and nephews; and a very dear friend, Virginia Shirley of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Val Hunter; and sisters, Dorothy Goodwin and Ouida Harkreader.
Services will be directed by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Services for Myrtle Morene Dry, 72, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Fite officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Dry died Oct. 25, 1998, in the local hospital. She was born to Charles and Flora Williams Roberts on May 3, 1926, in Ardmore.
A lifetime resident of Ardmore, she was formerly employed by TG&Y, was a child care provider and a teacher aide at Jefferson School. She and Jack T. Dry were married Aug. 6, 1964, at Waurika.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters, Laura Peacock, Fort Worth, Texas, and Tonya Flores, Fullertown, Calif.; three sons, Jackie Dry, Ardmore, Jerry Dry, Thackerville, and John Corbett, Almargordo, N.M.; sister, Claudia Elliott, Ardmore; a brother, Pete Roberts, Borger, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Randy Peacock, John Bartels, Herb Upchurch, Derrick Bramlett, Jason and Dustin Dry. Honorary bearers are Phillip Todd, Hilton Stubbs, Dr. David Rose and Dr. Kevin Reed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
DAVIS -- Services for Robert Ellis "Bear" Grissom, 56, were at 10:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lin Jones officiating. Graveside rites will be at 2:30 p.m. at Marlow Cemetery, Marlow.
Grissom died Oct. 24, 1998, in Davis. He was born March 9, 1942, at Olney, to Ellis and Goldie Rogers Grissom.
He graduated from Anadarko High School and operated a nursing home in Marlow before moving to Davis where he was employed 20 years for Halliburton. He was serving his second term as Davis City Councilman. He was a member of Davis-Sulphur Elks Lodge, Davis Masonic Lodge and Shriners India Temple.
Survivors include his mother, Goldie Gelvin, of the home; and a sister, Ilean Whitley, Oklahoma City.
Bearers were Todd Whitley, Phil Edgmon, Mark Clark, Gene Elliott, Scott Peters, Jimmie Primrose and Eddie Tomlinson. Honorary bearers are Louis Weaver, Frank Staggs, Darryl McCurtain and Bill Reedy.
Aaron-Krien Funeral Home directed services.
Funeral services for Wallace "Wally" Smith, 50, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at CrystalRock Cathedral with Dr. Walt Spradling and the Rev. Gary Gunsolus officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Wally was born Jan. 4, 1948, in Waurika, to the late George C. and Nell Smith. He died Oct. 26, 1998, in the local hospital.
He married the former Bernice Jaquez on July 27, 1973, at Gainesville, Texas.
Wally graduated from Dickson High School in 1967 and served in Vietnam with the Air Force from 1967-70. He moved from Dallas to Ardmore in 1995 after living there 17 years. He attended CrystalRock Cathedral and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4574. As a hobby, he loved drag racing and restoring cars.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of the home; a son and his wife, Glenn and Kim Smith of Marietta; two daughters and their husbands, Tresia and Gary Lindsey of Watauga, Texas, and Diane and Krish Kurup of Chicago; brothers, Clyde, Jerry , Bill and Kenneth Smith of Ardmore; grandsons, Keith McLaughlin of Chicago, Devyn Smith of Marietta, and Jacob Lindsey of Watauga.
Pallbearers will be Doug Sanders, Jimmy Antuna, Raymond Marks, David Gunsolus, Aubrey Day and Lloyd Epperson. Honorary bearers will be Jimmy Wilkens, Garvis Edwards, Lonnie Sears, Larry Bivines, Johnny Laird and Wayne Eades.
Services will be directed by Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home.
Services for Don Paul Taylor, Deer Park, Texas, are pending from Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home. He died Oct. 27, 1998, at his residence.
Survivors include a son, Michael, Burnet, Texas; parents, Robert and Thelma Taylor, Buchanan Dam, Texas; and brother, Michael, San Antonio, Texas.
Services for Allen D. Savage, 67, are pending from Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. He died Oct. 28, 1998, in the local hospital.
HEALDTON -- Services for Herb Chapman , 86, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reser Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Pitt, the Rev. Mike Williams and Kay Engle officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Prairie View Cemetery, Macomb, with Gene Cowin officiating.
Chapman died Oct. 26, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital. He was born April 15, 1912, at Spiro, to M.L. and Lillie M. Brant Chapman.
Reared at Krebs, he moved to Ardmore and married Marcella Hale in 1931. They moved to Pauls Valley and opened Herb Chapman Furniture. He moved to Louisiana, then to Healdton in 1974, where he managed B.L. Owens Furniture store. He married Marie Wiles Waldron March 25, 1975, in Gainesville, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four daughters, Nicki Cowin, Mountainburg, Ark., Kay Engle, Oklahoma City, Jan Smith, Noble, and Teri Morse, New Llano, La.; a stepson, Donald Pratt, Denison, Texas; stepdaughter, Lavena Robinson, McKinney, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jim Chapman, in 1991; and stepson, Jim Pratt, in 1993.
RINGLING -- Services for Harry L. Miller are pending from Alexander Funeral Home. He died Oct. 27, 1998, in the Waurika hospital.
PRUITT CITY -- Services for Mildred Suttles will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Pruitt City Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Francis Vanbeber and Eugene Christian officiating. Interment will be at Ratliff City Cemetery.
Mrs. Suttles died Oct. 26, 1998, in the Ardmore hospital. She was born March 17, 1922, in Oklahoma, to Carlos and Della Carson.
She married Alva Suttles on Dec. 1, 1940, in Marlow and had been a resident of this area the past 20 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by two daughters, Thelda Stillwell, Broken Arrow, and Janet Mullins, Ratliff City; two sons, Arlen, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Merlen, Canyon Lake, Calif.; a brother, Tilman Cason, Whitesboro, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as bearers.
Milburn Funeral Home will direct services.
HEALDTON -- Graveside services for Gerik Slade Adams, infant son of Nicholas Cotten and Stephaine Adams, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olive Cemetery with the Rev. Russell Cheatham officiating.
The baby was born and died Oct. 26, 1998, in the local hospital.
In addition to his parents, survivors include grandparents, David and Iris Adams and Ethel and Clifton Cotten, Coden, Ala.; great-grandparents, John and Evelyn Adams and C.L. and Lavada Matthews, Healdton, and Rosemary of Mobile, Ala.
Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home, Ardmore, will direct services.
