Graveside services for Alline Layne were 3 pm. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery
Born Feb. 2, 1909, at Sulphur to Joseph P. and Sallie Grissom Chambers, she died at her Ardmore residence Jan. 2, 1998. She married Ben Layne on April 11, 1942, at Ardmore. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1994.
A long-time resident of Ardmore, Mrs. Layne was a retired employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church and the Mattie Bruce Chapter of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include tow sisters, Mary Walker and Ruth Harris, both Ardmore.
Memorials may be made to the Holiday Chorale or the Mattie Bruce Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Services were under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
MARIETTA -- Graveside rites for A.S. "Aubrey Smith" Barber, 93, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lakeview Cemetery with Dr. Stan Beason officiating.
Born April 20, 1904, at Smith County, Texas, to Jack and Mary White Barber, he died Jan. 3, 1998, at a Marietta hospital. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.
Barber came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon in 1907, before statehood. He lived most of his life in Love County. He married Sibyl Mills on Oct. 26, 1937, in Love County. He was a retired self-contractor in carpentry and had been the custodian of the First United Methodist Church for 44 years. Barber was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard at Fort Sill. He worked at Camp Howze as a cook for many years and earned his 50-year Masonic pin. He had been the president of the Love County Singing Convention for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Richard, Marietta, and Paul, Ardmore; three daughters, Patsy Williams and Peggy Phillips, both Marietta, and Debra Walling, Carrolton, Texas, 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Honorary bearers are the First United Methodist Church Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. today.
Services are under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Services for Blanche L. Barnes, Neosho, Mo., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Fite officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born Aug. 19, 1912, at Norman to William Ches and Bessie McClain Givens, she died Jan. 2, 1998, at a Neosho hospital. She married J. Houston Barnes on July 28, 1939, at Ardmore. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1996.
Mrs. Barnes lived in Ardmore for many years, moving to Neosho in 1994. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Ken Barnes, Neosho; one brother, Guy Givens, Ardmore; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Newton County Chapter of the American Cancer Society in care of Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.
Graveside rites for Quabarzier Jamal Roller-Nugent, infant son of Rhianon Roller and Cory Nugent, will be 2 pm. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Branscum officiating.
The infant was born and died Dec. 29, 1997, at a local hospital.
Survivors include his parents, of the home; grandparents, Jo Johnston, Ardmore, Steve Roller, Little Rock, Ark., and Louise White, Ardmore.
Services are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Graveside services for William Richard Chatfield, 97, were 1 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Elder Tom Hansen officiating.
Born Aug. 3, 1900, at Brazoria County, Texas to William Audrey and Mary Jane Reynolds Chatfield, he was one of eight children when their family lived in Madge, Texas, in Coleman County, and then moved by covered wagon to Ford County when he was 12 years old.
He left Ford County in 1921 and moved to Sanger, Texas, where he was a farmer and rancher. His first wife, Augusta Schmidt passed away after 20 years. He then married Alma Strader Padgett and they were long-time residents of Sanger. They were also residents of Keene, Texas, where they were involved in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one daughter, Mauryne Miller, Ardmore, one sister, Daisy Chatfield Layland, Cleburne, Texas; three granddaughters, Cyndy Hughes and her husband, Andy, Loveland, Colo., Kelly Lopresto and her husband, Mark, Baton Rouge, La., and Stacy Rodrick and her husband John, Ardmore; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
DAVIS -- Services for Mary Maud Davisson will be 3:30 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Thomas Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Ponca City.
Born June 6, 1910, at Moblie, Mo., to William and Anna Harrison Neely, she died Jan. 1, 1998, at Davis. She married Charles Oran Davisson. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include several nieces.
Services are under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
WHEATLAND, Wyo. -- Services for Michael Dale Knisley will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Baptist Church.
Born on Aug. 9, 1945, at Carnegie to Harold and Rachel Harrison Holman, he died Jan. 2, 1998, at a Wheatland hospital following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Knisley.
He married Sally Hoock on April 17, 1964, at Corn. Knisley had been a resident of Wheatland since 1979, where he was a foreman for the Basin Power Plant.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; his mother, Rachel Holman, Ardmore; two daughters, Valerie Morris, Douglas, Wyo., and Tracie McGuire, Cheyenne, Wyo.; two brothers, Wendell Knisley and Corkey Holman, both Ardmore; and four grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Platte Funeral Home, Wheatland. Services announced by Craddock Funeral Home.
HENNEPIN -- Services for Peggy Ruth Wingo will be 2 pm. Monday at the Untied Pentecostal Church with the Rev. R. J. Roach officiating. Interment will at Hennepin Cemetery.
Born Aug. 18, 1934, at Homer, she died Jan. 2, 1998, at a Pauls Valley hospital. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Newton Stevens.
She married Bob Wingo on Jan. 10, 1970, at Duncan. She had lived in Hennepin since 1972 and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Wingo retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 25 years of service. She had worked for Southern Oklahoma Resource Center for 13 years and she and her husband have owned and operated the Wingo Grocery Store for more than 18 years.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; her mother, Ella Stevens, Hennepin; four daughters, Elizabeth Wilburn, Fitzhugh, Julie Wingo, Hennepin, Shannon Stevenson, El Cajon, Calif., and Sheree' Serrano, Manteca, Calif.; two sons, Scott Wingo, Elmore City, and Mike Wingo, Ada; three sisters, Joyce Poole, Birmingham, Ala., Charlene Litke, Hennepin, Stephynne Renfro, Wynnewood; two brothers, Terry Stevens, San Antonio, Texas, Steve Stevens, Latta; and seven grandchildren.
Bearers are nephews and great-nephews.
Services are under the direction of Fox Funeral Home, Davis.
Memorial services for John Wilmot Mayes, 78, will be 2 p.m., Jan. 10, 1998 at Craddock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Pittman officiating.
Born May 3, 1919, at Liberal, Kan., to Robert Franklin and Bertha Ellen Walters, he died Dec. 15, 1997, at Bolivear, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, on Dec. 18, 1990.
Mayes grew up at Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1936. He received both a bachelor's and master's degree in geology from the University of Oklahoma. He married Luelle Ogle in 1941. Mayes made his home in Ardmore for the past 50 years. He married Lillian Coffey Straughn on Oct. 16, 1959, at Wichita Falls, Texas. Mayes worked for Texaco and Samedan Oil Corporation, but spent most of his professional career as an independent geologist. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan Ellen Geltmacher, Bolivar, Mo.; six sons, John W. Mayes Jr., Napa, Calif., William Charles Mayes, Bettendorf, La., the Rev. Robert Scott Mayes, Angel Fire, N.M., Barry Vernon Straughn, Norman, Marlin Glenn Straughn, Euless, Texas, and Paul Lance Straughn, Wilson; two brothers, Harold Mayes, Duncan, and Paul Mayes, Champagne, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends following the service at 924 Springdale Loop.

MARIETTA -- Services for Mae "Hickman" Fletcher, 91, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eastside Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Gardner and Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will follow at Hood Community Cemetery, Hood, Texas.
Born June 23, 1906, at Whitewright, Texas, to George Washington and Maude Staley Hickman, she died Jan. 3, 1998, at a Marietta hospital. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Fletcher lived most of her adult life in Love County. She had a combined total of 35 years of teaching, 25 years at Marietta Public Schools. She was named Teacher-of-the-Year in 1968 and retired in 1969. Many of her students said she did not just teach the ABCs, but she also taught love. She was a charter member of the Eastside Baptist Church and the charter church secretary and treasurer.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Elvira Fletcher, Bartlesville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bettie and Harold Birdsall, Norman, Linda and Dale McMillin, Marietta, and Mary and John Kent, Gainesville, Texas; three sisters, Myrtle Minnegaux, Redwood City, Calif., Eva England, Fort Worth, Texas, and Mable Watson, Henrietta, Texas, 16 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Bearers are deacons of Eastside Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 1514 Meadow Lane, Ardmore, OK 73401.

Services for John William "Bill" Grissom, 72, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Arlen Fowler officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born May 15, 1926, at Ardmore to John and V.A. Grissom, he died Jan. 1, 1999.
A lifelong resident of Ardmore, Grissom graduated from Ardmore High School. After graduation he joined the United States Navy, where he served until the end of World War II. Bill graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in finance in 1949. In 1950 he and his brother, Bob, founded Community Finance Company and in 1963 founded Lincoln Bank and Trust Company where he served as president and chairman of the board of directors until his death.
Bill loved both the air and sea. He earned his pilot's license at the age of 15 and remained an active pilot for many years. Another of his projects was the complete restoration of a 1939 Chriscraft wooden cabin cruiser.
Survivors include one son, Randy Grissom, and his wife, Gail, Ardmore; daughters, Cathy Bolding, Oklahoma City, and Nancy Wilson and her husband, James, Oklahoma City; his former wife, Anna Grissom, Ardmore; his brother, Bob, and his wife, Helen, Ardmore; and grandchildren, Geoffe and Karyn Bolding and Katie Wilson.
Bearers are Rick Simms, Tim Berryhill, Jerry Nance, Bob Grissom, Harold Holden, Bill Reed, Roger Gray and Bill Gentry.
Memorials may be made to the University of Oklahoma Foundation Inc., 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, OK 73019.
BROKEN BOW -- Graveside rites for Helen Mae Waldon, 84, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Holly Creek Cemetery at Broken Bow, Okla. with the Rev. Alvin Clamp officiating.
The daughter of the late Kit Carson and Mattie Delia Whittle Hunkapiller Taylor, she was born July 8, 1914, at Merdes, La., and passed away Jan. 1, 1999 in the local hospital following an extended illness.
Reared in the Broken Bow area, she graduated from Broken Bow High School. She lived in Mobile, Ala. the past 54 years working as the resident manager of the YWCA and a children's home. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mobile. She moved to Ardmore in 1995.
She is survived by a brother, Claud Taylor of Ardmore; her grandson, Kit O'Neil Waldon of Mobile, Ala.; and several nieces. She was preceded in death by her son, Ivan Kit, in 1986.
Services will be under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
