Services for Lois E. Stephens are pending at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 19, 1906 to William Joseph and Margaret Cenith Tyler, she died Feb. 5, 1999 at a local health care facility. She wa preceded in death by her husband, Houston Stephens in 1994; and one son, Ernest Houston Stephens in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Stephens, Lone Grove, and Gene L. Stephens, Dyersburg, Tenn.; one daughter, Marguerite Francis, Santa Rosa, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
SULPHUR -- Services for Jerry Lairson, 56, are pending with Cowley-Krien Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian, of the home.
RINGLING -- Services for Lola Fuller Marquardt, 98, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Brother Burt Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Marlow Cemetery, Marlow.
Born April 17, 1900 at Burneyville, Indian Territory, to Plez and Annie Phelps Davis, she died Feb. 5, 1999 at a Ringling nursing facility after an extended illness. She married Sam Fuller in 1927. He preceded h er in death in 1961. On May 3, 1968 she married Howard Marquardt at Iowa Park Texas and then moved to Ringling.
Mrs. Marquardt had lived in Love County for over 50 years before moving to Marlow.
Survivors include her husband of the home, nieces and nephews.
Bearers are Lyndell Awtrey. J.C. Awtrey, Hershel Wooley, Richard Wooley, R.T. Longest and Tony Lyles.
Services are under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
WILSON -- Services are pending for Faye Rene Bailey, 77, Ardmore, with Alexander Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 26, 1922 at Wilson to William J. and Margaret Ruth Qualls Parr, she died Feb. 6, 1999 at an Irving, Texas hospital. She married Mackie DeRoy Bailey, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1980.
Survivors include one daughter, Jody Edming, Forth Worth, Texas; two brothers, Kirby Parr, Ardmore, and Bill Par, Ada; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
THACKERVILLE -- Graveside rites for Ira Beryl Bettis, 89, Gainesville, Texas will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Zion Cemetery with Randall Tyler officiating.
Born Feb. 25, 1909 at Abilene, Texas to Abb Rufus and Nannie Emaline Kelly Bettis, he died Feb. 5, 1999 at a Gainesville hospital. He married Martha McCage Feb. 14, 1961 at Sherman, Texas. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1975. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Effie Lou Dorn, 1998, and Elizabeth Rone, 1987.
For the past five years Bettis had lived at Gainesville, but for most of his life he lived at Thackerville. He was a retired farmer. Bettis was of the Jehovah Witness faith.
Survivors include one brother, L. T. Bettis, San Antonio, Texas.
Services are under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home of Marietta.
LOCO -- Services for Henry M. Hurst, 88, Pinto, were Saturday at Loco Baptist Church with the Rev. Woody Woodall officiating. Interment followed at Dixie Cemetery.
Born Nov. 5, 1910 at Waurika to Garrett N. and Della Stevens Hurst, he died Feb. 4, 1999 at an Ardmore hospital after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Don Hurst, on May 29, 1997; and a daughter, Beverly Susan Cline, in 1982.
Hurst lived all of his life in the Pinto area. He was a rancher. He married Mary Lucille Muse Dec. 17, 1932 in the middle of an intersection on the Stephens-Jefferson County line.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Vernon Hurst, Tishomingo, Glen Hurst, Pinto, and Lynn Hurst, Pinto; three daughters, Wynelle Hatchett, Arlington, Texas, Shirley Gibson, Parker, Colo., and Cleta Anderson, Friendswood, Texas; one sister, Opal Walker, Alvardo, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Bearers were grandsons, Tony Hatchett, Steven Hurst, Brian Hurst, Michael Hurst, Gary Lee Cline and Joyle Hurst. Honorary bearers were Craig Hurst, Justin Hurst, Wayne Hurst, Glen Hurst, Larry Hurst, Bradley Hurst and Rayburn Ritter.
Services were under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
DAVIS -- Services for Vesta Pearl Latimer, 85, are pending with Krien Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 12, 1913 at Wynnewood to John Thomas and Maud Suttle Noland, she died Feb. 6, 1999 at an Ardmore Hospital.
Survivors include eight children, Carlma Holder, National City, Calif., Ken Remy, Ardmore, Dennis Latimer, Oklahoma City, Marilyn Edwards, Ardmore, John Mike Latimer, Olympia, Wash., Sandra Corbett, Thackerville, Steve Latimer, Seagoville, Texas, and Becky Latimer, Oklahoma City; two brothers, Virgil and Dale Noldand, both Davis; two sisters, Ruby Kennedy, Wynnewood, and June Cobb, Shawnee; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Ruth A. Chaffee, 76, of Ardmore are pending with Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chaffee died Feb. 13, 1999, at the Ardmore hospital. She was born May 30, 1922, in Chicago.
Survivors include Betty Steinbach of Davenport, Iowa, Ellen Spraggins, Barbara Dummer and Ruth Ann Fox of Ardmore, Sandra Istre of Florida and Bobbie Sue Mark of Conroe, Texas.
Services for Gordon Porter, 61, were Saturday at Craddock Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert E. Lee officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Healdton.
Porter was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Cleveland, Okla., to Eugene and Esther Horn Porter. He died Feb. 10, 1999, in Oklahoma City.
He worked as a bookbinder for Maclenburg-Duncan before retiring. He moved to Ardmore from Oklahoma City 10 years ago and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Dodd Porter, Ardmore; a son Darrell R. Porter, McMinnville, Tenn.; and a sister, Leta Porter Waller, Midland, Texas.
Bearers were Jim Longino, Bruce Cates, Rodney Tennes, Skip Pearson, Dave Robenson and Lennis Pierce.
Services for Bobby Dale Castleberry, 52, will be 2 p.m. Monday in Craddock Memorial Chapel with the Revs. David Gardner and Charles Denney officiating. Interment will be in the Lone Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Castleberry was born Feb. 9, 1947. He died Feb. 11, 1999, at his Lone Grove home. He was a fork-lift driver with Michelin Tire Co.
He is survived by his father, Lonnie Eudy, Lone Grove; two sisters, Mary Richards and Glenda Gibson, Ardmore, and a brother, Bill Cox, Checotah. His mother, Frankie Jane Eudy, preceded him in death in April 1994.
Bearers will be Roy, James and Charles Denney, Wendall and Randy Denham, Gene Yarbrough, Larry Gunter and Allen Jones.
Services for Veda Barker, 82, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Walt Spradling officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Born March 15, 1916, at Enid to the late Edward Milton and Ella Emma Richey, Mrs. Barker died Friday at a local health care facility.
She married Russell Barker on Dec. 12, 1935, in Perry. She had lived in Ardmore most of her life and was a member of CrystalRock Cathedral.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola Shellady, Velma Lee Cline and Virginia Goff.
She is survived by her husband, of the home; three daughters, Carol Suttle, Duncan, Sharon Miller, Alamogordo, N.M., and Linda Houldson of Lone Grove; a brother, Victor Richey, Wichita, Kans.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
MARIETTA -- Graveside rites for Lessie Lee McCarrell will be 1 p.m. Monday at Prairie View Cemetery with Elder Willie McGaskey officiating.
Born March 20, 1918 in Ran to Robin and Viola Halstied McCarrell, he died Feb. 11, 1999, in an Oklahoma City hospital following a brief illness.
McCarrell was a World War II Army veteran and lifetime resident of Love County. He retired from the railroad in 1982.
He married Barbara Jones in 1942. She preceded him in death on May 14, 1989.
Surviving are five daughters, Sandra Frazier of San Dimas, Calif., Linda Smith of Edmond, Joyce Jones of Arlington, Texas, Karla Dunham of Oklahoma City and Donna Massey of Arlington; two sons, Robert of Fort Worth and Michael of Arlington; three sisters, Ruth Brooks of Los Angeles, Christine Robinson of Dos Palos, Calif., and Cozetta Howell of Fresno, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Weldon Roddam, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Christian Church with the Rev. John Hazel officiating. Interment will follow at Tishomingo City Cemetery.
Born March 13, 1914, at Wolfe City, Texas, to the late Minet Hezikiah and Neoma Myrtle Bethel Roddam, he died Feb. 10, 1999.
He and Viola Thomas Harbert were married July 25, 1994, in Eureka Springs, Ark.
Mr. Roddam graduated from Bromide High School, Southeastern State University, Durant, and a Fullerton, Calif., inspection school. He was a retired inspector for the Saturn Project and also worked in the aviation industry and Apollo program.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two daughters, Lanita June Crowell of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Linda Barbara Mustain of Central Point, Ore.; three brothers, Bethel of Corona, Calif., M.H. of Carson City, Nev., and Jack of Montebello, Calif., four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Doyle; four sisters, Bernice James, Mozell Willingham, Juanita Talley, Katherine Stamps and a grandson, David Mustain.
Services are under the direction of Corbin Funeral Home.
RINGLING -- Graveside rites for Charles G. "Dock" Lockwood, 84, will, be at 10 Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Ringling Memorial Cemetery with Brother Jimmy Morris officiating.
Lockwood died Feb. 14, 1999, in the Ardmore hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 10, 1914, near Center Point, Okla., one of 10 children born to Charley and Leona Porter Lockwood.
He and the former Lois Hicks were married on April 14, 1934, at Ringling. He had been a lifelong resident of the Ringling area where he farmed and ranched. He was preceded in death by his parents and six of his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, of the home; a son, Sherle Lockwood of Ringling; two daughters, Peggy Chamberlain of Ardmore, and Judy Wade of Byers, Texas; three sisters, Flossie Reynolds of Santa Paula, Calif., Callie Mauck of Lindsey, Calif., and Leona "Toad" White of Bokoshe, Okla.; three grandsons, Charley and Jeff Lockwood both of Ringling, and Mark Chamberlain of Gene Autry; a granddaughter, Deana Roberts of Ponder, Texas; a great-grandson, Cole Lockwood of Ringling; and great-granddaughter, Nikki Lockwood of Ringling.
Bearers will be Kenneth King, Ray Folsom, and grandsons, Mark Chamberlain, Charley Lockwood, Jeff Lockwood and Tom Roberts.
