FORT WORTH, Texas -- Services for area native James H. ³Copper² Young, 76, were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Young died May 22, 1999, in a Fort Worth hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1922, at Gene Autry.
He had lived in Fort Worth more than 40 years and retired from Southwestern Bell in 1972.
Survivors include a son, David, Fort Worth; a daughter, Karen Day, Austin, Texas; two stepdaughters, Mary Davis, Arlington, Texas, and Donna Doyle, Maryland.; two brothers, Clarence and Royce; three sisters, Loyce Sandy, Alyne Gragg and Joyce Maxey; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Iris Lydell and Irene Elizabeth; an infant daughter, Phyllis; and stepson, Ray Davis.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Services for Minnie Pearl Melton will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Revs. Larry Hatfield and Bill Tomlin officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Durant.
Mrs. Melton died May 25, 1999, in Chickasha. She was born June 21, 1905, in Durant Indian Territory, to J.T. and Alice McMasters.
She married P.A. Melton March 23, 1920, at Allen, and following his death in July 1985, she moved to Ardmore from Durant in 1988. She was a member of CrystalRock Cathedral. She had lived in Chickasha since November 1998.
Survivors include sons, Jack, Buckeye, Ariz., Don, Durant, Robert ³Bob,² and Jacob ³Jake,² Chickasha; daughters, Trula Counts, Bridgeport, Texas, Geneva Cargal, Ardmore, and Mary Mullens, Pauls Valley; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Hubert and Posey.
Bearers will be Terry Mullens, Allen and Gary Don Melton, Tim Cooper and Avon Barber.
Services for Claude Hartsill, 83, are pending from Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. Hartsill died May 27, 1999, at his home.
RINGLING -- Funeral services for Donald R. Stagner, 68, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gospel Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ with the Rev. Jimmy Morris officiating. Interment will be at Ringling Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Mr. Stagner died May 25 1999, in the Healdton hospital. He was born Sept. 6, 1930, at Ringling, to Mack Lee and Ruth Mendenall Stagner.
Reared in Ringling, he attended school at Mountain Home and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He and the former Martha L. Toepfer were married in 1962, at Kingfisher, and made their home in Ringling since 1964. He worked in the oil fields, farmed and ranched. He was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Violet McDonnel; and two brothers, Jack and Marvin Stagner.
Survivors include his wife, Martha, of the home; two daughters, Janice, and her husband, Ernie Marshall, and Donna, and her husband, Don Miller; and four granddaughters, Candi Marshall, Amanda Miller, Lindsay Marshall and Bridget Miller, all of Ringling.
Serving as bearers will be Joe and Randy McDonnel, Leo, Guy and Scotty Stagner and Wade Toepfer.
MARIETTA -- Services for Marietta native Kenneth Cornelison, 63, Houston, are pending from Kennedy Funeral Home. He died May 26, 1999, in a Houston hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Cornelison, Houston, and Christine Cooney, New Orleans; four brothers, Alva, Mineral Wells, Texas, David, Ardmore, Eddie, Temple, Texas, and Robert, Drasco, Ark.; and two sisters, Eula Chambers, Ida, Ark., and Bertie Morris, Denton, Texas.
MARIETTA -- Services for Angie B. Wester, 100, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Kennedy Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Carol Norton officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Mrs. Wester died May 25, 1999, in Oklahoma City. She was born Aug. 1, 1898, in Mississippi, to James W. and Mattie Megginson Shankles.
She lived in Marietta until 1946, then in Ardmore until 1979 when she moved to Oklahoma City. She was a homemaker and member of Highland Baptist Church. She was the widow of Orren N. Wester who died in 1958. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jim Edd, in 1938; four sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Truman Wester; and daughter, Sondra Bonds, Denison, Texas; a sister, Zula Cooke, Baton Rouge, La.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Services for Helen Doris Payne will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas.
Mrs. Payne died May 24, 1999.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; four children, Richard, Gary, Karen and David; her mother, Faye; sister, Margaret Howell, Ardmore; and 12 grandchildren.
Services for Claude Lewis Hartsell, 83, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with Charles Bownds and the Rev. Stephen Harris officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Hartsell died May 27, 1999, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born to Hugh L. and Flora I. Carpenter Hartsell June 18, 1915, at Chico, Texas.
He married Anna Mae King Feb. 13, 1938, at Abernathy, Texas, and worked as a farmer, rancher and truck driver. He was a Baptist, 32nd Degree Mason and Scottish Rite member.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Larry, Ardmore; three daughters, Carolyn Brockett, Spring, Texas, Janie Bownds, Warsaw, Mo., and Betty Herman, Ardmore; a brother, Charles, Scottsboro, Ala.; two sisters, Opal Whitmire, Kress, Texas, and Joyce Taylor, Canyon, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Amy Fisher.
Grandsons will serve as bearers.
MARIETTA -- Graveside rites for Kenneth L. Cornelison, 63, Houston, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Cemetery.
Cornelison died May 26, 1999, in a Houston hospital. He was born March 24, 1936, at Binger, to William E. and Alvah Thompson Cornelison.
He was reared in Love County and lived in New Orleans before moving to Houston eight years ago. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard, in 1965, and Jack, in 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Cornelison, Houston, and Christine Cooney, New Orleans; four brothers, Alva, Mineral Wells, Texas, Eddie, Temple, Texas, Robert, Drasco, Ark., and David, Lone Grove; and a sister, Eula Chambers, Ida, Ark.
Kennedy Funeral Home will direct services.
MARIETTA -- Services for M.D. Hale, 77, are pending from Kennedy Funeral Home. He died May 27, 1999, in the local hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of the home.
SULPHUR -- Services for Briant Allen Wallace, 36, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Wall officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home.
Wallace died May 26, 1999, in Ada. He was born Jan. 26, 1953, at Lawton.
He had lived in this area all his life and worked as a laborer. He married the former Rachel Mae Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Stratford; a daughter, Leacinda Brown-Wallace; his parents, Roven and Susie Wallace, Sulphur; two brothers, Eugene, Irving, Texas, and James, Milll Creek; and four sisters, Louella Jones and Frances Arles, Sulphur, and Mary Taylor and Karen Wallace, Ada. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharion Cruz.
Bearers are Omar Heminger, Waddell Williamson, Tim, Alex, Eddie and Sam Brown III. Honorary bearers will be Gale Brewer, Larry McDonald, Orlando Brown, Albert, Justin and K.C. Taylor.
A 7 p.m. wake will be conducted tonight at the home of Susie Wallace, north of Sulphur.
MARIETTA -- Services for Juanita G. Stevens, 75, are pending from Kennedy Funeral Home. Mrs. Stevens died May 27, 1999, in the local hospital.
She is survived by her husband, David, of the home; and daughter, Gale Backlund, California.
SULPHUR -- Services for Mark Allen Zimmerman, 41, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Clagg Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Eddie Malphrus officiating.
Zimmerman died May 27, 1999, in Sulphur. He was born Dec. 28, 1957, in Teipea, Taiwan.
Reared in Lawton, he graduated from Lawton Eisenhower High School in 1975 and married Marsha Mears May 19, 1997, in Omaha, Neb. They moved to Sulphur from Omaha in November 1997. He was self-employed.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; his parents, Jack and Nell Zimmerman; and a sister, Patti Beeson, Duncan; and a brother, Jack Jr., Irving, Texas.
CUSHING -- Services for Ray Brumley will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Cushing. Interment will follow at Euchee Valley Memorial Park under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Brumley died May 27, 1999, at his residence. He was born Oct. 8, 1936, in Atoka County, to Otis and Gracie Deskins Brumley.
He graduated from East Central University and earned his master's degree in secondary education from Oklahoma State University. He began his teaching career in 1958 in Cushing, and retired 37 years later as principal of the middle school which had been named in his honor in 1995. Brumley was an active member of First Baptist Church as well as numerous professional and civic organizations. He and Joyce Cole were married Aug. 2, 1958, at Asher.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Victor R., Ardmore, and Chad A., Tulsa; a brother, Leon, Altus; two sisters, Imogene Cleveland, Glenpool, and LaVerne Loman, Oklahoma City; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Ray Brumley Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1453, Cushing, OK 74023.
DAVIS -- Services for Billie Jean Pickens will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Finis Steelman, Willard McCartney Jr., and Lin Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
Born Aug. 28, 1938, at Ardmore to Ed and Mary Mann Scott, she died May 28, 1999, at an Oklahoma City hospital. She married Troy Lee Pickens June 6, 1958, at Hennepin. He preceded her in death July 31, 1980.
Mrs. Pickens was the owner-operator of Sooner BBQ for a number of years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Range Riders and an honorary FFA member.
Survivors include one daughter, Tonya Pickens, Davis; one son, Brent Pickens, Oak Grove; one sister, Mary Watson, Sulphur; and two grandchildren.
Bearers are Eldon Lynch, Don Watson, George Thomas, Royce Dale Jones, Dave Williams and Mike Miller. Honorary bearers are Merlene Lewis and Wayne Glasgow.
Services are under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
MARIETTA -- Services for Gary Don Howard, 35, Enville, are pending with Kennedy Funeral Home.
Howard died May 29, 1999, at Ardmore.
Survivors include his wife, Trisha, of the home; and his mother, Anita Howard, Marietta.
