GRANDFIELD -- Private services for Esther La Verne Hoover, 76, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grandfield Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Hoover died June 1, 1999, in Grandfield where she was born Aug. 29, 1922.
She lived several years in California and retired from Northrop Air Craft Corp before returning to Grandfield.
Survivors include three sons, Rex Dyer, Grandfield, Joe Dyer and Steve Hoover, Big Bear, Calif.; a sister, Fay Jackson, Ardmore; two brothers, Tom Daugherty, Lucerne Valley, Calif., and Joe Daugherty, San Jose, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Gray Funeral Home will direct services.
SULPHUR -- Graveside rites for Walter Lee Wilson, 80, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. James Swain officiating.
Wilson died June 1, 1999, in Norman. He was born Feb. 17, 1919, at Sulphur, to Tom and Louisa Sharp Wilson.
A resident of this area most of his life, he served in the Army during World War II and worked in the oil field and in construction. He married Martha Ingram Sept. 13, 1942, at Sulphur.
Survivors include his wife, of the home in Norman; three daughters, Karen Orr, Norman, Dennie McCollum, Boles, Ark., and Linda Hittle, Scott Mills, Ore.; a sisters, Viola Chambler, Sulphur; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby and Phillip; three brothers, Henry, James and Clarence; and grandson.
Clagg Funeral Home will direct services.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Joyce Lynn Anthony Russell were, 48, were at 10 a.m. today at Corbin Memorial Chapel with Charles Cook officiating. Interment was at Condon Grove Cemetery, Milburn.
Mrs. Russell died June 2, 1999. She was born July 21, 1950, at Enid.
She graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1967 and received her degree in business from Murray State College in 1981. She was a seamstress. She and Milton A. ³Rusty² Russell were married March 15, 1968, at Tishomingo.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters, Shelly Miller, Madill, and Amy Russell, Tishomingo; her parents, Tony and Joy Anthony, Tishomingo; three brothers, John Anthony, Tishomingo, Randy and Larry Anthony, Denison, Texas; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy G. Anthony.
MARIETTA -- Graveside services for Peggy Johnston Roberson, 83, were at 10:30 a.m. today at Lakeview Cemetery with the Rev. David Colaw officiating.
Mrs. Roberson died June 2, 1999, in Marietta. She was born March 28, 1916, at Grady, to Edwin and Ruth Johnson.
She had lived in Marietta for 60 years and was a retired waitress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Johnston, Dec 21, 1990.
Survivors include a son, Tim Johnston, Jimtown; daughter, Marsha Birdwell, Marietta; a sister, Wanette Pistole, Ardmore; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Kennedy Funeral Home will direct services.
DAVIS -- Services for Bobby James Meador Sr., 67, will be at 2 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Chapman officiating. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery under the direction of Krien Funeral Home.
Meador died June 2, 1999, in Wynnewood. He was born March 9, 1932, at Davis, to Homer A. and Margaret D. Rowe Meador.
He graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1950 and had lived and worked in the Wynnewood-Davis area most of his life. He was a silver smith. He and Tajauna Kelly Kahlakeuni were married Nov. 14, 1984, in Sulphur.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Bobby J., Michael J., and Bobby Jr.; his mother, Margaret Meador; a brother, Byron; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Homer; and his father.
Bearers are Brandon Meador, Charlie Thomasson, Eric Soelberg, Rudy Fine, J.W. Ware and Josh Oakley.
STROUD -- Memorial services for Grover C. ³Cliff² Clevenger were at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Stroud with the Rev. Ray Clevenger officiating. Interment was at Stroud Cemetery.
Clevenger was born Oct. 7, 1919, at Maude, to Benjamin and Katherine Clevenger. He died Oct. 8, 1998, in Heflin, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sarah Victoria James, March 25, 1987; four brothers; and a sister.
He is survived by three sons, the Rev. Ray Clevenger, Heflin, Ala., Monte Clevenger, Mokelumne, Calif., and Clifford Clevenger, Ardmore; six daughters, Joyce Armstrong, Heflin, Bonnie Bassett, Las Cruces, N.M., Sheryel Devlin, Conway Springs, Kan., Viola Lawson, Lowry City, Mo., Mary Myers, Kansas City, Kan., and Teresa Back, Hope Mills, N.C., a brother, Benjamin ³Gart² Clevenger, Ardmore; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside rites for T. J. ³Jim² Sherman, 82, Wilson, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 1999, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore. The Rev. James Sherman will officiate.
Mr. Sherman died June 1, 1999, at his home in Wilson. He was born June 4, 1916, at Kalamazoo, Mich., to Arthur and Beatrice Brotherton Sherman.
He moved with his family to California as a young boy, and soon after graduating from high school there, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. After being discharged, he began working for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach and completed his employment career with Norris-Thermodore of Los Angeles. He married the former Odie Mae Walker Sept. 13, 1958, at Las Vegas, Nev., and they came to Wilson in 1970. Odie preceded him in death Feb. 5, 1982.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. James Sherman of Toronto, and Ricky Sherman of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Johnson of Anaheim, Calif., and Anna Pentz of Long Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and very special friends, Bob and Joann Longest and family of Ardmore.
Serving as bearers will be Melvin Walker, J.W. Carlile, Craig Barbour, Bob Longest, Tim Longest, Owen Longest and Shane Ritchey.
Alexander Funeral Home, Wilson, will direct services.
Memorial services for Eran Lee Speer, 51, will be held Tuesday, June 8, 1999, in Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Maddon officiating.
The son of Harold L. and Laura M. Luttrell Speer, he was born Aug. 28, 1947, in Ardmore, and passed away Feb. 24, 1999, in Colorado from complications of cancer.
Reared in Ardmore, Eran attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Dickson High School. He and Theresa were married Feb. 1, 1969, at Ft. Meade, Md. He served in the U.S. Army and retired after 20 years of service in the military police. After his military retirement, he worked for Holt Associates. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing with his grandsons, gardening, camping and his greatest joy was his family.
Eran was a loving husband, father, son and grandfather. He accepted death with the same dignity and courage he fought his illness with. He is sadly missed but is at peace with the Lord.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, of the home; two sons, Gregory and Bryan, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother, Laura Speer, Kennewick, Wash.; a brother, Dwayne Speer of Richland, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Robert, Bryan Jr. and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his father.
Services for Verna Lois Riggs, 75, Ardmore, are pending with Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home.
Born June 2, 1924, at Enville, she died June 4, 1999, at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Survivors include two sons, Sam Riggs, Oklahoma City, and Junior Riggs, Ardmore; one daughter, Debra Kent, Ardmore; two brothers, Don Stewart, Marietta, and Richard Stewart, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Marie Scott, Enos, and Mary Akin, Del City; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services for Annie Mae Spencer, 98, are pending with Ragsdale-Grant and Sons Mortuary.
Mrs. Spencer died June 4, 1999, in a nursing home.
Graveside rites for Oma Ethel Probert, 91, Borger, Texas, formerly of Ardmore, will be 2 p.m. today at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Fite officiating.
Born Oct. 12, 1907, at Mineola, Texas, she died June 4, 1999, at Borger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Probert Sr. in 1973.
Mrs. Probert had been a resident of Borger since 1982. Prior to her move to Borger she had been a resident of Ardmore. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlsie Dolney, Borger; one son, Charles Probert Jr. and wife Wanda, Ardmore; two granddaughters, Pamela Younps and Janice Bilbeck; and one great-granddaughter, Amanda Younps.
Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Home
MADILL -- Services for Ethel Beatrice Sloan, 83, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Watts Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Randy Gray and Richard Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta.
Born April 26, 1916, at Oswalt, she died June 3, 1999, at Burleson, Texas, after three years of declining health. She married Roy L. Sloan Feb. 5, 1938, at Ardmore. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 23, 1991.
Mrs. Sloan and her husband had lived at Burneyville from 1938 to 1970. They then moved to the Kingston area, where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Sloan was a member of the Enos Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Sloan, Morrison, and Dennis Ray Sloan, Ratliff City; two daughters, Linda Kerley, Burleson, and Delpha Lee Ward, Mansfield, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Bearers are Randy Loggins, Pete Smith, Brad Moore, Rex Sloan, Jimmy Jackson and Robert Killam. Honorary bearers are Clinton Ward, Dale Wayne Sloan, Dennis Sloan Jr., Wesley Sloan and Daniel Sloan.
DAVIS -- Services for Bobby Vernon will be 2 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Willis and Jack Pack officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.
Born Jan. 5, 1931, at Sulphur to Otis C. and Emmo Jene Wallis Vernon, he died June 3, 1999, at Ardmore.
Vernon lived most of his life at Davis. He was a self-employed dairy farmer. Vernon was a member of the Dairy Men's Association and the Associated Milk Producers.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, of the home; one daughter, Gwendolyn Vernon, Davis; one son, Robert Keith Vernon, Davis; two sisters, Lola Faye Warner, Davis, and Joanna Rowe, Davis; two brothers, Marvin Vernon, Davis, and Otis C. Vernon Jr., Hawthorne, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Bearers are James Goddard, Leon Sloan, Joe Pack, Kenneth Johnson, Dick Jones and Royce Dale Jones. Honorary bearers are Surge Beck, Neal Rose, George Carlson, James Carlson, Buck Wilson and Tucker Vernon.
SULPHUR -- Services for Dale C. West Jr., 80, Roff, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Clagg Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Edgar officiating. Interment will follow at East Hill Cemetery, Roff.
Born Dec. 24, 1918, at Ada to Dale C. and Mary Paine West, he died June 3, 1999, at Amarillo, Texas. He married Pearl Hackworth Feb. 16, 1946, at Ada. She preceded him in death on June 18, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Alan West, 1996; two sisters and one brother.
West lived in the Ada area and then moved to the Trent and Merkle, Texas, area where he attended school. He returned to Ada at age 17. West was a veteran of World War II. In 1946 he moved to Amarillo and worked as a mechanic for Plains Machinery for 25 years. In 1983 he moved to Roff. He was a Baptist and a member of American Legion Post 279 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10039.
Survivors include two sons, Larry West, Littleton, Colo., and Dustin West, Amarillo; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Bearers are Shane Hackworth, Chad McGehee, Zane West, Shawn West, Patrick Willingham and Hobart Robinson.
