Services for Hester Louise Horton, 86, Lone Grove, will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with Dr. Virgil Trout officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Horton was born Aug. 24, 1912, at Lequire, to Bill and Amy Nix Sims. She died June 15, 1999 in Ardmore.
She married Lester Louis Horton Oct. 9, 1926, at Lequire. He preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1986. The longtime resident of Lone Grove, moving there from Borger, Texas in the early 1960's, she was a homemaker her whole life. Her love for her children was her life. She was a friend to her children, helping to give them what she could. She gave them strength, love, faith, courage and security. She kept them all from harm. We all loved her for being such a great mother. She always met our daily needs and stressed how important it was to receive a good education. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Eugene and Hobert Horton; and a brother, John Edwin "Buddy" Sims.
Survivors include sons, David Horton of Ardmore, and Kenneth Horton of Tulsa; daughters, Natha Barbour of Bedford, Texas, Leona Ruth Pugh of O'Donnell, Texas, Naomi Beckel of Dalhart, Texas, Louise Kirkpatrick of Arnold, Mo., Jo-Nell Amaral of Fremont, Calif.; sisters, Eula Griffin of Lone Grove, Bula Ward of Lequire, Leota Hays of Ardmore, and Bernice Ratcliff of Healdton; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Mike Beckel, Lonnie Pugh, Matthew Pugh, Kinney Pugh, Michael Horton, Mark Horton, Kendall Barbour, Rickey Barbour, Robert Armstrong, Josh Amaral, Bryan Kirkpatrick and Kevin Barbour.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services for Leo Murray, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Willie Range and S.M. Stevenson officiating. Interment will be at Jehovah Cemetery in Milo.
Murray died June 13, 1999 in the local hospital after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 2, 1912, at Woodford, to Dudley and Mandy Taylor-Murray.
He married Clara Stevenson March 29, 1941, in Ardmore, and was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; a son, Melvin, Hollywood, Fla.; a daughter, Dorothy Purvey, San Francisco; two brothers, Lincoln, Ardmore, and Joe Emmit, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Kirk-Dawson-Dillard Funeral Home will direct services.
Services for Mattie Eden McArthur, 94, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Garland Wallace officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Mrs. McArthur died June 14, 1999 in a local health care facility. She was born Nov. 25, 1904, at Elk City Indian Territory, to Walter J. and Fronia Bewley Darden.
She was a former licensed practical nurse and bookkeeper for the family's NAPA Auto Parts in Hobart. She entered Southwestern College and was one semester away from earning her degree when she moved to Ardmore. She was an artist, member of First Church of the Nazarene and a charter member of Mercy Memorial Health Center Auxiliary. She and Everett Lynn McArthur were married Oct. 26, 1926, at Leedey. She was preceded in death by her husband July 27, 1987; a daughter, Wanda J. Wood in 1980; and son Bobby Lynn, in 1939.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Lloyd McArthur, Ardmore, Dr. Gale McArthur, Ponca City, and Dr. Donnie McArthur, Tulsa; two brothers, Rev. Earl Darden, Dallas, and Rev. Roy Darden, Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Helena Burns, Lincoln, Calif., Evalena Jones, Wichita, Kan., and Dortha Privett, Bethany; ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Mike Guajardo, Doug Poff, Kelly, Kendall, Dr. Robert and Gale McArthur Jr.
Memorials may be made to Southern Nazarene University Scholarship Fund, Bethany.
Services for Frances Sublett, Lone Grove, are pending from Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home. She died June 16, 1999 in the local hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon, of the home; a son, Jack, Burleson, Texas; and daughter, Judy Gardner, Lone Grove.
SULPHUR -- Services for Wallace D. Stephens, 74, are pending from Clagg Funeral Home. He died June 17, 1999 in Ardmore.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, Sulphur.
WAURIKA -- Services for Alan W. Robertson, 47, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Waurika First Baptist Church. Interment will be at Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Worley and Sons Funeral Home.
Robertson died June 15, 1999 in Kansas City, Mo. He was born July 4, 1951, at Waurika.
Reared in Waurika, he attended Murray State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He had lived in Kansas City since 1996 and was a master welder for LICO Steel Co. He was a member of Community Fellowship Assembly of God Church in Ringling, Professional Rodeo Association and Ironworkers Union.
Survivors include a son, Aaron; and daughter, Lisa Robertson, both of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; his parents, Bennie Ruth and Junior Robertson, Waurika; two sisters, Loyce O'Gwin, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Sue Sarratt, DeQueen, Ark.; and brother, Dru, Waurika.
GAINESVILLE, Texas -- Services for Crystal Lorraine "Dee" Walton, Ardmore, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. James Methodist Church in Gainesville with the Rev. James Hill officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Golden Gate Funeral Home.
Mrs. Walton died June 12, 1999. She was born Dec. 2, 1959.
Reared in Gainesville and Fort Worth, Texas, she worked in various fields of nursing and was most recently employed by Save-A-Lot in Ardmore.
Survivors include two sons, Jonas and Maurice, of the home; two stepdaughters, Samika and Pelise Harris, Ardmore; her mother, Edwina Jackson, Ardmore; her father, Melvin Parramore, Seattle, Wash.; four sisters, Marla Jackson, Seattle, Carolyn McGee, Tipton, Priscilla Haley and Anita Jackson, Ardmore; a stepsister, Deloris Berliner, Wichita Falls, Texas; four brothers, Cecil Jackson, Ardmore, Ty Jackson, Richard Jackson and Carl Newberry, Gainesville; and a grandson.
Bearers will be Robyn Byars, Jimmy Reed, Melton Stone, Daniel Dorsey Jr., Donald Manuel and Sylvester Haywood.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at 301 C St. SW in Ardmore.
Services for Ethel Minnie Bell Edmonds, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Mize officiating. Interment will be at Grandfield Cemetery, Grandfield.
Mrs. Edmonds was born Jan. 5, 1922, at Orr, to Hanson H. and Minnie B. Brantley Brock. She died June 16, 1999 in Ardmore.
She married Clifford Edmonds June 24, 1939, at Grandfield, and moved to Ardmore in 1961. She had been a beautician, Stromberg-Carlson employee and child care worker. She was a member of Lone Grove Baptist Church and Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Kenneth, Oklahoma City, and Jack, Ardmore; three brothers, Charlie Brock, Tucson, Ariz., George Brock, Healdton, and Carly Brock, Silverton; three sisters, Donna Christensen, Mt. Shasta, Calif., Wanda Smith and Mary Hart, Tulsa; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
LONE GROVE -- Services for Frances Sublett, 67, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the Revs. David Gardner and Jason Langley officiating. Interment will be at Lone Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Sublett was born Sept. 22, 1931, at Moore, to Edgar and Faye Word. She died June 16, 1999 in the local hospital.
She moved to Lone Grove in 1970 from Morton, Texas and was a member of First Baptist Church. She and Vernon Sublett were married Oct. 22, 1949, at Wellington, Texas. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Bob Word.
She is survived by her husband, of the home; a son, Jack, Burleson, Texas; daughter, Judy Gardner, Lone Grove; brothers, Joe Word, Lone Grove, Donnie Word, Falconhead, and Jim Word, Ardmore; a sister, Lometa Cryer, Arlington, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Bearers will be Bobby Townley, Larry Twyford, Stan Harris, Marvin Mashburn, Steve Delano and Brian Gunter.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home, Ardmore.
WILSON -- Graveside rites for Dempsey Thompson, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hewitt Cemetery in Wilson with the Rev. Jim Gillum officiating.
Mr. Thompson was born June 12, 1919, at Orr, to James Henry and Pheby Tabor Thompson. He died June 17, 1999 in the Ardmore hospital.
Reared in the Orr/Reck communities, he was married to the former April Whitener on July 12, 1943, at Ringling. They lived in Wilson until 1950, moved to Floydada/Sterley, Texas, living there until 1966, then moved to Quitaque, Texas where he was employed by Fort Worth and Denver Railroad Systems until he retired. He returned to the Wilson/Ringling area in 1986 and had lived in Ardmore the past three years. He was a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. He was preceded in death by his wife Aug. 24, 1986; a son, Tommy Ray Thompson Sr., Dec. 13, 1994; two sisters, Lizzie Bell Wallace in 1957, and Estelle Conley, Aug. 20, 1997; three brothers, Edward R. Thompson, Oct. 1, 1965, Arthur F. Thompson, March 28, 1980, and Ernest R. Thompson, Oct. 11, 1994.
He is survived by a son, Jack Condra of Fort Worth, Texas; a special companion, Margaret Warford, of the home in Ardmore; her children, Ray Dewberry, Barbara Dunlap and Darlene Labeth, all of Ardmore; four grandchildren, Amanda Osterson, Tommy Ray Thompson Jr., Jackie Condra and Michelle Condra Walls; two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Grace Osterson; several nieces and nephews.
Alexander Funeral Home will direct services.
TISHOMINGO -- Graveside rites for Patricia Joyce Upton Anderson, 68, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tishomingo Cemetery with Dale Carr and Lou Garramone officiating.
Mrs. Anderson was born March 13, 1931, at Kiowa. She died June 16, 1999, in Texarkana, Texas.
She was a retired accounting clerk.
Survivors include a son, John, Los Alamos, N.M.; daughter, Pamela Carr, Stillwater; six sisters, Robbie Sutherland, Wolf Bayou, Ark., Dorothy Fulk, Hillsboro, Kan., Vera Ned, Shawnee, Sue Berry and Verlene Colson, Kingston, Joy Woods, Kingman, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ishmael Upton; and sister, Nell McCarty.
Corbin Funeral Home will direct services.
SULPHUR -- Services for Wallace Dale Stephens, 74, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Clagg Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jasper Saunkeah Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman.
Stephens was born May 7, 1925, at Drumright, to Elmer and Grace Payne Stephens. He died June 17, 1999 in Ardmore.
Reared in the Drumright/Tipton area, he graduated from high school in Elmer and lived several years in Norman before moving to Sulphur in 1991. He served in World War II, and worked in civil service at Tinker Air Force Base before he retired. He was a member of Brookhaven Baptist Church, Masonic and Elks lodges. He and Linda Trolinger were married May 8, 1985, in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; son, James, Norman; stepdaughter, Sandra Keller, Noble; stepson, David Sprowls, Sulphur; three brothers, Charles, Hurst, Texas, Kenneth, Caddo Mills, Texas, and Bill, Lone Grove; five sisters, Dean Pate, Columbus, Ohio, Kay Lovejoy, Frederick, Betty Baker, Floydada, Texas, Candy Butler, Vernon, Texas, and Mary; three grandchildren; a stepgrandchild.
MARIETTA -- Services for Robert R. Corn, 78, Ardmore, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
Born Feb. 5, 1921, at Franklin, Texas, to Eddie and Allie Corn, he died June 19, 1999, at a local nursing facility. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Williams.
Corn married Johnnie Hodges Aug. 10, 1967, at Gainesville, Texas. He was a retired Lt. Colonel of the United States Air Force, having served in World War II. He worked as an air controller following his military service and was a Love County rancher. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Retired Officers Association and Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son Randy Kirk and his wife, Kim, Edmond; one daughter, Kathleen Stockstill, Oklahoma City; one daughter-in-law, Lynette Kirk, Ardmore; two half-sisters, Edna Jarrett and Dorothy Commander, both New Baden, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris Stockstill and his wife, Sherri, Oklahoma City, John Kirk, Ardmore, Jason Wilson, Edmond, Michelle Wilson, Edmond; and three great-grandchildren, Kendall Wilson, John Robert Kirk and Kendall Stockstill.
Bearers are Brent Hodges, Keith Hallum, C.W. Hallum, Larry Taliaferro, Weldon Doughty and Douglas Doughty. Honorary bearers are Jimmy and Wayne Doughty and members of the First Baptist Church Sunday School class.
Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today.
Services are under the direction of Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home.
Graveside rites for Bob Austin, 64, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hillcrest Cemetery with Jessie Whitlock officiating.
Born March 17, 1935, at Shawnee to George W. and Mary N. Morgan Austin, he died June 18, 1999, at Oklahoma City after a lengthy illness. He married Carolyn Ann Grove June 19, 1954, at Shawnee. She preceded him in death March 18, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his father, George W.; three brothers, Dick, J.W. and Howard Austin.
Austin came to Ardmore 31 years ago from Marietta. He had been in the retail grocery business and was an employee of the Safeway Store. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Austin and Steven Austin, both Ardmore; two daughters, Mary Lynn Holley, Ardmore, and Vicky McCartney, Lone Grove; his mother, Mary N. Austin and two sisters, Georgia Belle Austin and Janet Kay Austin, all Shawnee; and seven grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
