DAVIS -- Services for Dorris D. Underwood, 97, Hickory, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Seventh-day Adventist Church with Jack Peck and Brad Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Hickory Cemetery.
Born Dec. 17, 1903, at Comanche, Indian Territory, to Otis M. and Jeanette Harrison Cloninger, she died April 4, 2001, in Ardmore. She married George Walter Carlson. She later married Joe Underwood on May 16, 1948. He preceded her in death Sept. 2, 1974. She was also preceded in death by three brothers.
Mrs. Underwood lived at Comanche until she was eight years old. She lived in Canada for two years and then moved to Grandfield. She graduated from Keene Industrial Academy in 1920. She taught school near Tulsa and in Enid and Union Valley. In 1928, she enrolled at Loma Linda University and graduated with a degree in dietetics. She worked as a dietitian in Reno, Nev., until 1935. She moved to California and in 1940 moved to Davis. She was a dietitian at Hardy Sanitarium and Vaughn Keller Hospital. Mrs. Underwood returned to teaching and taught at Huylen from 1946 to 1947. She then moved to Hickory where she taught from 1947 until the school closed in 1968.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Carlson, Hickory; two sons, Dr. George W. Carlson and Dr. James W. Carlson, both Ardmore; one sister, Ouida Turner, Graford, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home.
Services for George E. Williamson, 78, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Range, the Rev. Tyrone Turner and the Rev. Kirk Rushing officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Gene Autry.
Williamson, the eldest son born to J.B. and Mary Williamson on August 31, 1922 in Gene Autry, departed this mortal life March 5, 2001, at the local veterans center following an extended illness.
Raised in the Gene Autry area, Williamson attended elementary through high school at Black Jack and Lincoln Schools. He joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at an early age where he was a member for many years.
Upon completing high school, Williamson enlisted in the United States Army where he served tours in Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe. He also served in World War II, earning several awards, conduct medals and service stars.
Following an honorable discharge from the Army, Williamson married Sarah Oletha Berryman in 1947. To this union, eight children were born. Williamson had four children precede him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Daniel and Joseph.
Williamson later married Pearl McDonald on June 12, 1975, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Williamson was a very successful business owner in Ardmore. He remained so until his retirement in 1999. He was a former member of Sunset Lodge No. 85 and in his early years a 32nd Degree Mason.
Williamson leaves to cherish his memory his wife; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Clevetta and Kermit Patterson, Desoto, Texas, Georgia Mae Maytubby, Lee Ann and Quince Pirtle, Dawn Marie and James K. Stubblefield, Ardmore; one son and his wife, Ray and Cynthia Williamson, Edmond; six brothers and sisters, Jerry, Terry, Arthur and Kathleen Williamson all of Ardmore, Louis Williamson and Dorothy Hughes both of Oklahoma City; one aunt, Evelyn Gentry; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Bearers will be members of the brotherhood from local Churches. Flower girls will be Missionary Society representatives from Corinth and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Churches and The Full Gospel Holy Temple of Dallas.
The family will accept visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Ragsdale, Grant and Sons Mortuary.
HEALDTON -- A celebration of the life of Opal Sharron Gaither Stewart, 85, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shell Street Church of Christ with Alan Eck, Roy Hannah and Danny Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery.
Born Oct. 12, 1915, at Healdton to Joe Frank and Minnie Beard Finley Gaither, she departed for heaven on April 6, 2001, at an Oklahoma City hospital. She married Ottis L. Stewart on July 9, 1932, at Healdton. He preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jessie Lowe and Dorothy Lyon; and one brother, Willard F. Gaither.
She attended school in Healdton and Rexroat. She and Ottis moved to Salem, Ill., in 1941 and lived for there for several years. They then returned to Carter County where they lived and reared their family. Opal was the matriarch of a large and loving family. She demonstrated through her generous and charitable nature what it means to be a good mother, grandmother, sister and true Christian. Opal loved to fish, garden and prepare food for her family, her church and her community. She loved to laugh and found humor in everything.
Survivors include one daughter, Irene Jones and her husband, Tommy, Meeker; four sons, Tommy J. Stewart, and his wife, Shirley, Owasso, Lester "Bear" Stewart and his wife, Carol, Healdton, R. Doyle Stewart, D.O., and his wife, Marcia, Poteau, and Ed R. Stewart D.O., and his wife, Vicki, Noble; two brothers, R.C. "Bob" Gaither and his wife, Myrtle, Healdton, and Cecil D. Gaither and his wife, Mary, Vinita; two sisters, Iva Hope, Healdton, and Jean Roberts and her husband, Gerald, Healdton; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers are grandsons.
Services are under the direction of Spivey's Reser Funeral Home.
WYNNEWOOD -- Graveside rites for Gary Dale Little, 67, Ardmore, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Oaklawn Cemetery with Don Mapes officiating.
Born Sept. 2, 1933, near Stratford to Linzey and Ruby Butts Little, he died April 7, 2001, at Ardmore. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Little attended school at Stratford. He served in the United States Army for two years in Germany. He married Evelyn Blackburn on Oct. 14, 1956. Little worked for Uniroyal from 1973 until his retirement in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Jeff Little, Sulphur; one daughter, Debbie Shelley, Comanche; one brother, Murl Little, Clarksville, Tenn.; and one grandson.
Services are under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home.
Services for Alfredo "Fred" Castillo Sanchez, 71, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Juan Manuel Guerrero officiating. Rosary services are at 7 tonight at Griffin Funeral Home chapel.
Sanchez was born April 1, 1930 in Burnett, Texas, to Abraham and Sarah Castillo Sanchez. He died April 5, 2001, in the local hospital.
Raised in Ardmore, he lived here and in Texas and served with the Army in Korea in the medical field. He was a retired truck driver for Bell County, Texas, and member of VFW. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda; sister, Delores Landeros; and a brother, Andrew.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Maldonado; 10 sons, Glen, Hondo and Mario Sanchez, Michael, Freddy, Armando, Dee, John, Frank and Rosindo Maldonado; 10 daughters, Vickie King, Delores Wisner, Teri Camp, Lawanda Elles, Carla Venable, Sandra Maldonado, Lisa Hamilton, Lee Ann Mashore, Raven L. Meredeth and Margaret Maldonado; four brothers, Sylvano, Paul, Tony and Mike; three sisters, Nikie Elliott, Louise Contreras and Elizabeth Barton; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Michael Maldonado, Steve Winesner, Chris Morales, Hondo, Mario and Richard Sanchez.
MANNSVILLE -- Graveside rites for Paul Kenneth "Rabbit" Mills, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at Lone Cedar Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Funeral Services, Hollis.
Mills was born Feb. 14, 1924, at Ravia, to Rufus J. and Sally Sheppard Dollar Mills. He passed away April 3, 2001, in Hollis after an extended illness.
Married to Opal Inell Pittman on Nov. 7, 1953, in Gainesville, Texas, he worked the Daube and Goddard ranches in Oklahoma and C.F. Mock and Sons ranch, near Fargo, Texas, before he retired. He had lived at Hollis approximately 23 years.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Buddy and wife, Cheryl, of Atoka, and Kenneth Mills of Hollis; two daughters, Sally Myers and husband, Donnie, and Charlotte Robinson and husband, Donald, all of Hollis; a brother, Jack Sparks of Nyssa, Ore.; a sister, Dink Yeaman of Norman; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He wa preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lee Mills; a son, Garland; a granddaughter, Peggy; and great-granddaughter, Michaela Bower.
HEALDTON -- Graveside rites for Reynolds C. "Shotgun" Parker, 68, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Cemetery with Sid Bazzrea officiating.
Parker was born Jan. 8, 1933, at Healdton, to Benjamin F. and Miracle L. Klingenburg Parker. He died April 5, 2001, in a Wilson health care facility.
He had lived in Healdton all his life and worked in the oil industry for Gosney Mud Company several years.
Survivors include five brothers, Ben, Tuttle, Mac, Gainesville, Texas, Bert, Enid, Donnie, Moore, and Randy, Wilson; and four sisters, Virginia Parker, Wewoka, Corine Davis, Joyce Banda and Shirley Fowler, Healdton.
Bearers will be Randy Parker, Wendell Wilkins, Buddy Schofield, Mark and Marion Ward.
Spivey's Reser Funeral Home will direct services.
MARLOW -- Services for J.C. Shahan, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at East Side Baptist Church. Interment will be at Velma Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home, Duncan.
Shahan was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Bray. He died April 4, 2001.
A lifetime resident of Marlow, he served in the Army and Navy in World War II and Korea and was a retired driller and roughneck.
Survivors include his wife, Tiney, of the home; six daughters Jannette Wright, Velma, Donna Perkins, Dallas, Gayle Cox, Marlow, Lynn Bass, Ardmore, Ronda Acord, Ozark, Ark., and Connie Wright, Duncan; two brothers, R.C. and J.R., Marlow; five sisters, Mildred Stewart, Duncan, Christine Williamson, Milledgeville, Ohio, Johnnie Sims, Macon, Mo., Marie Ward, Andrews, Texas, and Beulah Barrett, Pine Prairie, La.; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Graveside rites for Dorothy Jean Lee, 70, Lone Grove, will be at 3 p.m. today at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Raymond Norton officiating.
Mrs. Lee was born Sept. 27, 1930, at Hopkinsville, Ky., to Alford H. and Gwendolyn K. Cavner Byers. She died April 5, 2001, in a local health facility.
Married to Robert Earl Lee in 1955 at Decatur, Texas, she had lived in the Ardmore-Lone Grove area most of her life and was formerly employed by Zales Jewelry. She was a member of Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994; a brother, Wayne Byers; and grandson.
Survivors include four daughters, Susan Cranor, Forney, Texas, Gwen Fautt, Sand Springs, Gayla Warner and Robbie Fergus, Lone Grove; six brothers, David, Eldon, Pete, Luther, Kenneth and Denny Byers, all of Ardmore; three sisters, Cathy Faulkenberry, Ardmore, Carolyn Herrell, Lone Grove, and Marolyn Gowins, Davis; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Blake Jones, Terry DeMars, Dennis, Steve, Jerry, Denny Ray and Mickey Byers.
Craddock Funeral Home will direct services.
DAVIS -- Services for Terry Lynn Smith, 49, were at 11 a.m. today at Fox Funeral Home chapel. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore.
Smith was born Aug. 25, 1951, in Ardmore, to William J. and Leslie M. Smith. He died April 2, 2001, in the Sulphur hospital.
He was employed as a truck driver for Pavers, Inc. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Tamara Willis, April 11, 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Andrean N. Smith, Davis; a son, Chris Willis; and grandson, Michael Nail.
PONDER, Texas -- Graveside rites for James Gordon Collum, 80, Overbrook, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eakins Cemetery in Ponder, Texas, with Wilma Collum officiating.
Collum was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Justin, Texas, to Benjamin F. and Willie M. Garrett Collum. He died April 3, 2001, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
He had lived in Love County 24 years and had worked as a farmer and in construction for Overland Construction. He and the former Helen Harris were married 35 years at the time of her death. He was also preceded by four brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a son, James Jr. "Spooky," Durant; two daughters, Helen Reimers, Overbrook, and Tandy Sterling, Purcell; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Bill and John McCurry, Liberty Smith, Randy Freeman, Weldon Cross, Rocky Campbell, Angelo Reimers and Bob Sauerberg. Honorary bearers are Doc Elliott, Holley Campbell and Bill Rambo.
Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home will direct services.
RINGLING -- Services for Willie Jean Greenroyd, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Dixie Cemetery in Dixie under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Mrs. Greenroyd was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Jefferson County, to William and Bessie Trout. She died April 4, 2001, in Ardmore.
A lifelong resident of the Ringling area, she married J.T. Greenroyd on Nov. 8, 1942, and was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She had been employed by the Ringling Public Schools working in the Headstart program. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 18, 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jo White and Shirley Stewart, Ardmore; a sister, Sylvia Hall, Dallas; two brothers, Jack Stepp, Stephenville, Texas, and Pat King, Denton, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 510 North Third, Ringling, Okla. 73456.
ENOS -- Services for Opal Moss, 78, Madill, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Enos Baptist Church with Wendyl Glenn and R.T. Brundig officiating. Interment will be at Lark Cemetery under the direction of Watts Funeral Home.
Mrs. Moss was born Sept. 24, 1922, at Willis, to Arthur and Mary E. Sherrod Page. She died April 2, 2001, in Madill.
Raised in Marshall County, she married Alton "Pop" Moss on Jan. 13, 1940, in Shay, and was a member of Enos Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 31, 1997; and a daughter, Mary Del Moss.
She is survived by a daughter, Letha Cryer, Kingston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Leon, Ronnie, Ernie and Jamie Bishop, Leo Arnold and Joe Smelley.
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Services for Ardmore native Charles Wayne Mitchell, 54, will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.
Born Feb. 27, 1947, in Ardmore, he died April 2, 2001, in Arlington.
He was owner-operator of Mitchell Auto Body Shop.
Survivors include his wife, Edwina; a daughter, Shelly Nichols, Arlington; a son, Chance, Burleson, Texas; and three grandchildren.
WILSON -- Services for Iva Lee Cross Whitener, 91, Kingston, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Kevin Everett officiating. Interment will be at Rubottom Cemetery, Love County.
Mrs. Whitener was born March 28, 1910, at Hewitt, to Richard H. and Bertha M. Abshire Cross. She died April 2, 2001, in rural Kingston.
Raised in Ringling, Courtney and Orr, she married William Henry Whitener on Nov. 4, 1928, in Ringling where they farmed many years. He died Oct. 19, 1981, and in 1992, she moved to the Kingston area. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Faye in 1930; a sister, Bida Woods; brothers, James, Bill, Archie and Guy; and three grandsons.
Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Bailey, Kingston, Evelyn Tanner, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Polly Smith, Gainesville, Texas; three sons, James, Kingston, Harold, Paoli, and Jerry, Somerset, Ky.; 18 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Hank and Bert Bailey, Bobby and Eugene Dyer, Ronnie Nichols and Sandy Ashley. Honorary bearers are Thomas Red, Gary Grantham, James Lively, Mike Reddick, Kenneth Higdon, David Marshall, John Mayo and Randy Langford.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
