A celebration of the life of Kenneth Brian Patterson, 46, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Ardmore First United Methodist Church with both the Rev. Robert Gorell and the Rev. Jimmy Nunn officiating.
Born to Vic and Marian Jordan Patterson on Oct. 1, 1954, in Houston, Texas, he passed away April 1, 2001, in the local hospital.
Kenneth and Beth Murrah were married Aug. 7, 1993, in Lubbock, Texas.
Kenneth had been an Ardmore resident since August of last year, moving here from Annona, Texas. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lubbock and an affiliated member of First United Methodist Church of Ardmore. Kenneth was a licensed local pastor for First United Methodist Church. He attended Perkins School of Theology and graduated from Texas Tech with a bachelor's degree in human development and family studies, with a minor in substance abuse studies. He was awarded a Human Science Scholarship and was consistently on the dean's and president's honor list. Before pastoring three small rural churches in the Clarksville, Texas, area, Kenneth was employed in Lubbock at the Texas Tech Health Science Center and Southwest Institute for Addictive Diseases, the Lubbock Faith Center and Tom Wells Service in Levelland, Texas, as a mud engineer. He was a counselor intern with the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and was pursuing his licensed chemical dependency counselor's certification before he responded to full-time ministry with the church.
Kenneth is survived by; his wife, Beth, of the home; three children, Kaleb Brian Patterson, Koby Blake Patterson and Kristi Brooke Rauslton and husband, Paul, to whom he was a loving father; his parents, Vic and Marian Patterson; brothers, Keith, Paul and Robert Patterson; sister, Julie Johnson; and Claren Fleming, mother of Kristi and Koby.
Pallbearers will be Mark Andersen, Bob Melton, Sean Gladding, Gavin Bennett, Henry Tolleson and Kevin Osborne.
Memorials may be made to the Baylor Foundation for Liver Transplantation, 3500 Gaston Ave., Dallas, TX 75246,
Services will be directed by Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
MARIETTA -- Services for Wylie A. McKnight, 78, Burneyville, will be at 2 p.m. today, April 2, 2001, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will follow at Terral Cemetery in Terral, Okla.
Born Oct. 31, 1922, at Bangs, Texas, to Wylie A. and Ruth Anne Fields McKnight, he died March 29, 2001, at the Ardmore Division of the Oklahoma Veterans Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Norman McKnight; and one sister, Geneva McCormick.
He married Dorothy V. McCalip March 13, 1944, at Colorado Springs, Colo.
A resident of Burneyville for the past 17 years, he previously lived in the Fort Worth, Texas, area. He retired from Bell Helicopter at Fort Worth in 1983. McKnight had served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He served with the 15th Air Force at Foggia, Italy. His decorations and citations included European, African, Middle Eastern with five Bronze Battle Stars, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Air Medal with three Bronze Clusters and one Overseas Bar. He was wounded in action on a mission over Toulon, France, on July 11, 1944. McKnight and his wife had recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. He was a member of First Baptist Church. His hobbies included woodworking, camping and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bobby Watson, Oceanside, Calif., Mary and Douglas Pearson, Draper, Utah, and Betty McKnight and Randy Crist, Austin, Texas; three sisters, Audrie Lee Coffman, Early, Texas, Bernice Stapleton, Burleson, Texas, and Lillian Dwiggins, Asheboro, N.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers are family members. Honorary bearers are members of the Men's II Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Marietta.
Memorials can be made to the charity of choice.
Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home will direct services.
HEALTDON -- Memorial services for Betty Sue Ray, 75, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church with Jimmy May officiating.
Born Sept. 17, 1925, at Oil City to Ed and Suzie Fox Davis, she died March 30, 2001, at a local health care facility. She was preceded in death by one sister, Josie; and one brother, Hanley.
She married Chan Ray April 19, 1944, at Ardmore. She was a member of First Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship. She moved to Healdton in 1953 when she and her husband purchased a service station. They opened Chan's Drive-In in 1960 and owned and operated the restaurant for several years.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; three daughters, Desri Richardson, Tulsa, Cindy McIntosh, Fort Collins, Colo., and Polly Borden, Amarillo, Texas; one son, Chan N. Ray, Pawnee; two sisters, Geneva Taylor, Ardmore, and Eddie Lou Tillman, Oklahoma City.
Services are under the direction of Spivey's Reser Funeral Home.
Services for Deborah Ann Rice Rozzell, 36, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Faith Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Joyce and the Rev. David Gardner officiating. Interment will be at Glenn Cemetery under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rozzell was born April 4, 1964, at Ellsworth, Kan. She died March 31, 2001, at her residence.
A resident of Ardmore most of her life, she worked as a paralegal for Ron Worthen 15 years and was married to Ed Rozzell Nov. 4, 2000, in Ardmore. She was a member of Faith Southern Baptist Church, served in the Kiwanis Club and ABWA and was actively involved in the Relay for Life.
She is survived by her husband, Ed, and children, Sarah, Melissa, Ed and Bobbi, all of the home; her parents, Ray and Barbara Rice, and brother, Steve Rice, all of Lone Grove; a sister, Donna Smith and her husband, Buzz Smith, a niece, Alex Smith, and nephew, Jarrod Smith, all of Pocola. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Sidney and Thelma Rice, Eugene and Dora; an uncle, Billy Bob Rice; and niece, Jordan Rae Smith.
Bearers will be Buzz and Donna Smith; Steve, Larry and Rodney Rice and Sheri Stalnaker.
Memorials may be made to Faith Southern Baptist Church or Cross Timbers Hospice.
Services for James Edward Cox will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Carl R. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
Born July 30, 1944, at Ennis, Texas, to James Artis and Dorothy Middlebrooks Cox, he died March 28, 2001, at a local hospital.
He joined the Presbyterian Church at Fort Worth, Texas, in 1950 and graduated from J.M. Terrell High School in 1962. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Miller Cox, of the home; four children, Antonio Cox. Ringo Cox, the Rev. George Cox, and Loretta Cox, all of Fort Worth, Texas; his mother Dorothy Middlebrooks Gaines and his stepfather, Roy H. Gaines, Ardmore; sisters, Diane Roberts and Norma L. Roberts, both of Houston; brothers, the Rev. John R. Roberts and the Rev. Carl R. Roberts, both of Fort Worth, and Claude Middlebrooks Cox, Ennis; and four grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Ragsdale-Grant and Sons Mortuary.
Services for Sidney F. "Pat" Patteson, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday April 3, 2001, at CrystalRock Cathedral with Dr. Walt Spradling officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Patteson was born Aug. 4, 1918, at Granola, Kan., to Addie and Anna Pearce Patteson. He died March 31, 2001, in Temple, Texas.
He lived in this area most of his life and was a member of American Legion Post 65, a volunteer at the Military Museum, a member of The Dirty Dozen fishing club, and member and usher at CrystalRock Cathedral. He was an Air Force veteran of World War Il and former salesman for Cudahy Packing Company. He and Lela Mitchell were married June 21, 1960, in Ardmore.
Survivors include his wife, Lela, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Arlen and Shirley Patteson of Fairport, N.Y., Rusty and Karen Parker of Mustang; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Ed Scroggins of Norman, Connie Gomes of Corona, Calif., Jodie and Tom Moran of Avalon, Calif., Lynette and Daniel Stilson of Clovis, Calif.; a brother, Frank Patteson of Moline, Kan., 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be ushers of CrystalRock Cathedral.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Home.
Services for Emma Lois Collins Bural, 86, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born Aug. 29, 1914, at Ardmore to William Blair and Nora Lasley Denham, she died March 31, 2001, at a local hospital. She married Homer D. Collins, who preceded her in death in 1957. She then married Frank Bural Jan. 2, 1979, at Lone Grove. She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles R. Colliins, 1985, three brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
A lifetime resident of Ardmore, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Lone Grove. She had worked as a nurse at Mercy Memorial Health Center.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; four sons, Gary D. Collins, Homer Dale Collins, Grady Paul Collins and Rocky Neil Collins, all Ardmore; two daughters, Donna L. Collins Glass, Ardmore, and Linda K. Collins Hoyt, Tuscon, Ariz.; one brother, Alpherd Denham, Overbrook; one sister, Shirley Joy, Ardmore; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Bearers are grandchildren.
Services for Mary I. Hunt, 75, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ivy Henson officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born Aug. 10, 1925, at Springer to Harvey and Viola Mae Tally Blalock, she died March 30, 2001, at a local hospital. She married John Henry Hunt Aug. 1, 1959, at Marietta. He preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1976. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Jack.
She had lived in the Ardmore area all of her life. She started her nursing career at the Hardy Sanitarium. Mary was a licensed practical nurse with Memorial Hospital where she retired after working for more than 25 years.
Survivors include one sister, Margie Blalock, Oklahoma City; one stepson, Johnny Wayne Hunt; one stepdaughter, Jackie Hunt; several grandchildren; and a host of special friends.
Bearers are Truman Blanton, Obit Blanton, Mike Blanton, Cy Doggett, Larry Latimer and Dee Debord.
GENE AUTRY -- Services for Patty Ann Lewis, 57, Gene Autry, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Milton Murphy and the Rev. Ron Elmore officiating. Interment will follow at Gene Autry Cemetery.
Born Oct. 20, 1943, at Ardmore to P.P. and Clemmie Rebecca Crow Crossland, she died March 29, 2001, at a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert John Crossland, and one sister, Emma Lou.
She lived in the area all of her life and worked in manufacturing at Beetle Plastics. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Jim Lewis and his wife, Dalhia, Mitchell Lewis and Randy Lewis, all Gene Autry; two sisters, Sue Powers, Borger, Texas, and Jean Cannon, Ratliff City; two brothers, Otto Crossland, Oklahoma City, and Howard Crossland, Hobbs, N.M.; two grandchildren, Kimberly Michele Lewis and Ashley Dawn Lewis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bearer are Louis Hope, Wayde Herndon, Jim Brock, Larry Weaver, Roy Tankensley, Timothy Paul Wodarz.
Services are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
TATUMS -- Homecoming services for Ollie V. Smith Greer will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank LaDon Washington officiating. Interment will follow at Oil Spring Cemetery.
Born Nov. 12, 1932, to Edward and Julie Richardson Smith, she departed this life on March 28, 2001, at her residence.
She grew up and attended school at Tatums and was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church until her health failed. She was known to her classmates as their queen and continued to be their queen until her passing.
Survivors include one son, O'Dell Williams, and his wife, Sherri, Tatums; five daughters, Kathron McMiller, and her husband, Larry, Tatums, Fredia Cohee and her husband, Charles, Milo, Elizabeth Knight and her husband, Chuck, Tatums, Joe Anna Sicard and her husband, Edson, Edmond, and Edith Washington and her husband, the Rev. Washington, Tatums; three nephews she reared, Nathaniel Johnson and his wife, Earlene, Oklahoma City, Everett Johnson and his wife, Kelly, Pauls Valley, and Morvee Johnson, Milwaukee; one granddaughter she reared, Valerie McNeil and her husband, Michael, Milo; two brothers, Q.T. Smith, and his wife, Ella, Milwaukee, and Iverson Smith and his wife, Youil, Ardmore; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, relatives and friends.
Bearers are the Tatums High School Class of 1953, Darnell Hooks, J.R. Hooks, Park Prince and Jo Ray Williams.
Services are under the direction of Brown and Christian Funeral Home, Chickasha.
Services for Jack D. Wilkes, 86, will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Philips Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ernest Madden and the Rev. Michele Rahhal officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Born Nov. 8, 1914, at Alyesworth to George D. and Sadie Jones Wilkes, he died March 30, 2001, at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bernice Coffman and Eugenia Burnett.
Mr. Wilkes was a lifelong resident of Ardmore. He was a graduate of Ardmore High School and was an employee of Samedan Oil Corporation and Noble Affiliates Inc. for 35 years, having served as vice president, treasurer and a member of the board of directors of Samedan and later as senior vice president and treasurer and a member of the board of directors of Noble Affiliates. After his retirement in 1978, he continued to serve as a member of the board of directors of Noble Affiliates until 1986. He was active in community affairs, having served on the board of directors of the YMCA, Ardmore Development Authority, Southern Oklahoma Memorial Hospital and Merrick Foundation. He was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church, where he served as a vestryman, junior warden and senior warden.
Survivors include his wife, Hetty Beth Wilkes, his son, David N. Wilkes and his wife, Nancy S. Wilkes, Bellaire, Texas, his son, J. Larry Wilkes and his wife, Mary Ann Wilkes, Ardmore; six grandchildren, Reid Wilkes, Ryan Wilkes, Laurie Wilkes, Daniel Wilkes, Katherine Wilkes and Burke Trail.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Philips Episcopal Church Tomlinson Landscape Fund.
Bearers are sons and grandsons.
Services are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
GENE AUTRY -- Services for Wayne F. Chastain, 74, will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Elmore and the Rev. Don Hill officiating. Interment will follow at Provence Cemetery.
Mr. Chastain was born Aug. 7, 1926, at Clemscott to George F. and Henryetta Chastain.
On March 8, 1947, he was joined in holy matrimony to Louise Smith. Out of this union were born four children, three sons and a daughter, Glen and Margaret Chastain, Ardmore, Tom and Barbara Chastain, Enid, Earl Jay Chastain, Ardmore, and Hazel and James H. Cape, Ada; and four grandsons, James Dwayne Cape, Timothy Aaron Chastain, Zachary Tyler Chastain and Matthew Paul Chastain.
He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation with 20 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gene Autry, where he faithfully served as a deacon for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Benny Wayne Chastain.
Bearers are James H. Cape, David Patton, David Bumpass, Mike Haggard, Roy David Smith and Billy Hudson.
Honorary bearers are Tommy Howard, Kenneth Williams, Leon Conway, Buck Gibson, Adrian Broughton, Jimmy Foster and Willie Johnson.
Graveside rites for Mary Beatrix Tanner, 91, were 10 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Donny Custar officiating.
Born Oct. 11, 1909, she died March 29, 2001, at a Healdton health care facility.
Ms. Tanner had lived in the Ardmore area for about 50 years. She had been a nurse's aid at Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include Gary and Michelle Presley.
Services were under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
