SULPHUR -- Services for Elbert Levi Hankins, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cowley-Krien Funeral Home chapel. Interment will be at Johnsonville Cemetery in Byars.
Hankins died April 18, 1997, at Byars. He was born July 11, 1914, at Johnsonville, to Charles L. and Nevada June Hankins.
He was a former mechanic for Dow Chemical and had lived in Sulphur since 1979, moving here from Byars. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include daughters, Darlene Harvill, Sulphur, Charlene Goodson, Wapanucka, Evon Duke, Vernal, Utah, Shirley Sims, Enid, and Pat Hargis, Bloomfield, N.M.; sons, Buddy, Midwest City, and Danny, Sulphur; four stepchildren, John Talbert, Edmond, Paula Hinsley, Mike and James Talbert, Sulphur; 40 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
SULPHUR -- Graveside services for Kay Crockett Williams, 87, were 2 p.m. Thursday at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating.
Mrs. Williams died April 17, 1997, in Ardmore. She was born Dec. 8, 1909, in Missouri, to Conrad P. and Grace Dreyfuss Paul.
A former resident of Missouri and Ohio before moving to Oklahoma, she was the widow of James Floyd Williams who died Nov. 14, 1980.
She is survived by two daughters, Mae Lammert, Arnold, Mo., and Betty Bendeaux, St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Jim Craddock, Shawnee; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Clagg Funeral Home directed services.
TISHOMINGO -- Services for Myrtle Pauline Ramey, 90, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Corbin Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joey Lansdale officiating. Interment will be at Condon Grove Cemetery, Milburn.
Mrs. Ramey died April 16, 1997, in Tishomingo. She was born April 7, 1907, at Vinita, to August and Ellen Dickerson Schultz.
A resident of Johnston County most of her life, she attended school at Coatsworth and married Joseph Monford Ramey in 1925 in Coal County. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; five sons, Kenneth, Ruidosa, N.M., Billy, Tishomingo, Douglas, Carson City, Nev., Monford, Browns Valley, Calif., and Danny, Quincy, Calif.; three daughters, Joann Decker, Hayward, Calif., Dolores Gordon, Ardmore, Laura Ramey, Oklahoma City; three sisters, Beulah Grey, Kenefic, Hazel Sampson, Falls River, Kan., and Ernestine Muncrief, Las Cruces, N.M.; 23 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Fritz; two grandsons; five brothers; and a sister.
Bearers will be Jimmy Owens, Michael Jones, Bubba Kucera, Ty Eason, Cowboy Ballard and Kirk House.
ENVILLE -- Services for Dorothy Ann Douglas, 70, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Enville Community Church with the Revs. Don Williams and Hubert Sponslor officiating. Interment will be at Ran Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Douglas died April 17, 1997, in the Ardmore hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1926, at Burneyville, to Ed and JoAnn Toles Pearson.
A lifelong resident of Love County, she married Melvin E. Douglas June 6, 1957, at Gainesville, Texas, and was a member of Enville Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband July 31, 1992; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin and Willie, Enville; three daughters, Marvia Douglas, Enville, Sheila McCray, Dallas, and Eula Green, Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Mary Jones, Marietta; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Nephews will serve as bearers.
Services for Ruth Baker Churchill, 88, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Craddock Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dan Patman officiating. Interment will follow Tuesday at Hartford Memorial Park, Hartford, Ark.
Born Feb. 28, 1909, at Hartford to Pleas and Louella M. Brewer Baker, she died April 17, 1997, at a Dallas hospital. She married Floyd Harmon "Jerry" Churchill on May 9, 1936, at Norman. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1973.
A longtime Ardmore resident, Mrs. Churchill had retired after 11 years of service as manager of the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce. She had also been the office secretary at the YWCA for several years. She was a graduate of Hill's Business College, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, Friendly Neighbors Club and the Thursday Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Mina Lee Rich, Houston; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Honorary bearers are Harold Tipps, Clark Hibbard, John Todd, Joe Owen, Drew Kissinger and Ken Ruhl.
MARIETTA -- Services for James Taylor "J.T." Roberts Jr., 77, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Stan Beason officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
Mr. Roberts passed away Saturday morning, April 19, 1997, at his residence. He was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Loves Valley, Okla., to James Taylor and Myra Sue Cain Roberts.
Mr. Roberts had lived all of his life in Love County. He married Kathleen Burney Aug. 16, 1981, in Marietta. He retired as Marietta postmaster in 1982, a position he'd held for 12 years. He began his tenure with the Marietta Post Office in June 1954 and was a farmer prior to this time. He served in the U.S. Army and was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marietta. He was an official weather observer with the National Weather Service for 25 years; a charter member of the Love County Historical Society; a 32nd degree Mason of the Marietta Masonic Lodge; and a member of the American Legion. He was also a regular blood donor to the Southern Oklahoma Blood Institute for many years and was an avid domino player.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Roberts, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Barbara Roberts, Gainesville, Texas, Larry and Taujuanna Roberts, Ardmore, Charley and Pat Roberts, Marietta, Tony and Carrie Roberts, Lone Grove; daughters and sons-in-law, Gerry and John Smith, Gainesville, Sue and Stan Daugherty, Ardmore; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Tim Tims, Chickasha, JoEllen and Steve Clifton, Austin, Texas; two brothers, Andrew Clark Roberts, Marietta, and Bill Roberts, Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Betty Sue Wilson, Cache; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be James Moffett, W.T. Warthen, Ken Delashaw, Wayne Smith, and grandsons, Lance Roberts, Court Roberts, Timothy Roberts and Dustin Daugherty.
The family has requested donations be made to the American Lung Association, c/o Kennedy Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. today.
WILSON -- Services for Ruby Mae Chance, 85, will be 2 p.m. today at the Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jim Gillum officiating. Interment will follow at Hewitt Cemetery.
Born Aug. 22, 1911, at Augusta, Ark., she died April 18, 1997, at a Healdton hospital. She married Ernest Valentine "Buster" Chance on Aug. 17, 1965, at Durant. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1988. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Charley Reagan, and a stepdaughter, Ruth Bradshaw.
Mrs. Chance was reared in Arkansas, and came to Oklahoma in 1964.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Margaret Winters, Merced, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Bearer is Clayton Cox.
Services are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
TROY -- Graveside rites for Robert Allen Grimes, 47, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Troy Cemetery with the Rev. James Shackleford officiating.
Born Aug. 13, 1949, at Madill, he died April 18, 1997, at a Tishomingo hospital. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, M.H. Miller, and a brother, Butch Grimes.
Grimes had lived in Tishomingo all of his life. He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include his mother, Sue Miller, Tishomingo; one sister, Pat Blakley, Howe, Texas.
Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
RINGLING -- Services for Helen L. Reed, 80, will be at 3 p.m. today at Marvin Acree Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Adkisson officiating. Interment will follow at Ringling Memorial Cemetery.
Born May 28, 1916, at Maud to Harry and Eva Cary Disch, she died April 18, 1997, at a Healdton health care facility after a battle with cancer. She married Cecil "Tobe" Reed on Dec. 24, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1971.
Mrs. Reed was reared and graduated from high school at Maud. She moved to Ringling after her her husband served in the military during World War II. Mrs. Reed had worked for various businesses in Ringling and had served on the election board. She was a member of the Marvin Acree Memorial United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette Gay, Richland Chambers Lake, Texas; one sister, Grace Sharp, Jackson, Miss.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Bearers are Jack Tipton, Mike Turner, Hollis Dickey, Jim Howard, Tom Hildebrant and Mike Moore.
Services are under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
SULPHUR -- Services for Elbert Levi Hankins, 82, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cowley-Krien Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Teddie Bulla officiating. Interment will follow at Johnstonville Cemetery, Byars.
Born July 11, 1914, at Johnstonville to Charles L. and Nevada June Hankins, he died April 17, 1997, at an Oklahoma City hospital.
Hankins moved to Sulphur in 1979 from Byars. He had been a mechanic for Dowell Chemical Corp. He retired in 1978. Hankins was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Protestant.
Survivors include five daughters, Darlene Harvill, Sulphur, Charlene Goodson, Wapanuka, Evon Duke, Vernal, Utah, Shirley Sims, Enid, and Pat Hargis, Bloomfield, N.M.; two sons, Buddy, Midwest City, and Danny, Sulphur; four stepchildren, John Talbert, Edmond, Mike and James Talbert and Paula Hinsley, Sulphur; 40 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Bearers are Steven McCutchen, Bobby Mealy, Jeremy Hankins, Jerry Sims, Kevin Sims, Grat Bishop, and Don Harvill. Honorary bearers are Tom Bingham, Craig Kirkeguard and Boyd Louderback.
Services for Edna Woods, 81, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Western Hills Christian Church, Lawton. Graveside rites will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore.
Born Sept. 12, 1915, at Ardmore to Claude and Gertrude Canavan Borrell, she died April 17, 1997, at a Lawton hospital. She married Joe D. Woods on March 9, 1942 at Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death Nov. 25, 1979.
A native of Ardmore and graduate of Ardmore High School, Mrs. Woods had been a resident of Lawton since 1958. She was a member of Western Hills Christian Church. She had been employed in retail business for many years before her retirement.
Survivors include two sons, David, Liberal, Kan., and Weldon, Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Mary Louise Lasser, Lawton; and four grandchildren.
Bearers are Tom Bennet, Bill Wright, Richard Jones, Roy Gillian, Ralph Hockersmith and Bob Swanagon.
Services are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
NORMAN -- Services for William W. "Hoot" Gibson, 62, will be 4 p.m. Monday at Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Burns officiating. Graveside rites will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Denison Cemetery, Idabel.
Born Nov. 6, 1934, at Ardmore to Vince E. and Virginia Hardin Gibson, he died April 18, 1997, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gibson attended Ardmore schools, graduating and earning Ardmore High School's Outstanding Athlete Award in 1952-53. Several years later he was inducted to his high school's Basketball Hall of Fame. Gibson attended Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship and played both freshman football and basketball. He graduated from Southeastern State University at Durant. He lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He earned his professional education certificate from the University of Oklahoma.
Gibson coached in Texas and New Mexico, as well as Davis, Hugo and Anadarko. He retired as assistant principal at Central Junior High School at Norman in 1992. Gibson was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Norman Moose Lodge and Oklahoma Secondary School Principals Association.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Slater Gibson, of the home.
Bearers are J.W. Loudermilk, Ansel Young, Dan Lovett, Ervin Roley, Bill De'fee, Don Masters, Frank Fuson, Larry Davis, Neal Roberts and Gerald Guy.
Family and friends may call at Mayes Funeral Directors until 1 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church or the Norman Public School Foundation.
DAVIS -- Services for George E. McFarland, 71, will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Lonny Lee and Dr. David Eggenberg officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Sulphur.
Born Feb. 22, 1926, at Davis, he died April 18, 1997, at his home. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence E. McFarland.
McFarland married Anna D. Etchieson on March 30, 1947, at Davis. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. He had also taught men's Sunday school classes for many years. McFarland was a member of R.S.V.P. He was retired from the Fred Dale Lumber Company and the Davis Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; his mother, Mary Brown, Davis; two daughters, Amy Shirley, Sulphur, and Linda Cowart, Derby, Kan.; two sons, Mike, Okmulgee, and Danny, Scott, La.; one stepsister, Lillian Ree, Gilton, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Honorary bearers are members of McFarland's Sunday school class, deacons of the First Baptist Church and retired members of the Davis Volunteer Fire Department.
Services are under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
