Graveside rites for Mildred Inez Scrivner Pride, 85, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Patman officiating.
Born March 18, 1912, at Van Zandt, Mo., to Henry and Melinda Dobyns Cooper, she died May 29, 1997, at an Oklahoma City hospital following a brief illness. She married Will C. Scrivner on June 7, 1935, at Marietta. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1968. She married William M. Pride at Ardmore. He preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1994. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Milton and Albert; and two grandsons, Billy and Nick Sigman.
She had been a resident of the Ardmore area most of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary E. Sigman and Millie Ann Clark, both Oklahoma City, and Laura Carol Harris, Ardmore; three brothers, Glenn, Corsicana, Texas, Hubert, Bartlesville, and Lloyd, Escondido, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
HEALDTON -- Services for Beecher M. Pickelsimer, 74, will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery.
Born Sept. 22, 1922, at Cumming, Ga., to Homer and Mary Mauldin Pickelsimer, he died May 31, 1997, at a Healdton hospital after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by a brother, Merlin Pickelsimer, in 1961; and a sister, Janie Seals, in 1992.
At age 3 Pickelsimer moved with his family to Cheek. He attended Cheek and Lone Grove schools. Pickelsimer moved to Fox in 1941. During World War II he served in the Eighth Air Force of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the 390th Heavy Bomb Wing in Framlingham, England. He married Gloria D. Kirkpatrick on April 4, 1946, at Fox. They moved to Healdton in 1956. Pickelsimer had been a pumper in the oil fields and was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Bill Pickelsimer, Edmond, Larry Pickelsimer and Kenny Pickelsimer, both Healdton; two brothers, Maynard and Marcus Pickelsimer, both Fox; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Bearers are nephews Joe Kirkpatrick, Mitchell Pickelsimer, Bruce Pickelsimer, Mike Kirkpatrick, Billy Webb and Bill West. Honorary bearers are John Stewart, Bob Turner, Jim Ratcliffe, Grady Morrow, Foy Beshears, Charles Shockley, Ezell Stepp, Troy Coker, Marlin Holder and Roy Barnes.
Services are under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
Funeral service for Stella M. Pickett, age 74, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 1997, in Harvey-Douglas Chapel. The Rev. Charles Bigger will officiate. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Born to George Howard and Virgil Ora Jordan Fletcher on March 8, 1923, in Ardmore, Mrs. Pickett died June 3, 1997, in the local hospital.
She married W. T. Pickett in February 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas. He preceded her in death March 14, 1989. She moved back to Ardmore in 1970 from Fort Worth. She was a homemaker and member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Brenda Edson of Schertz, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Irvin W. and Laverne Fletcher, Fort Worth; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts and uncles. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Wallace, in 1991; her mother, in December 1980; and her father, in January 1985.
Bearers are Wade Brown, Ronnie Stinson, Jerry D. Edson, Gerald Elmore, Tim Fletcher and Scott Jordan.
MARIETTA -- Services for Nettie Mae Thurman will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ with Bro. Floyd Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Mrs. Thurman was born Oct. 7, 1928, at Lewisville, Texas, to David Dewey and Lillie Mae Wallace Bassinger. She passed away Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at Brookhaven Rehab Center of Carrollton, Texas, at the age of 68 years, seven months and 27 days.
Mrs. Thurman had lived most of her life in Love County. She married Jack Wallace Thurman March 16, 1946, at Gainesville, Texas. He preceded her in death Nov. 28, 1986. She retired from the Firstbank of Marietta as an assistant vice president with over 30 years in the banking business. She previously worked for Western Auto 15 years and was treasurer of the Boy Scouts of America over 25 years. She was a member of the Marietta Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, retired Col. Jerry W. and Donna Thurman, Fort Knox, Ky., and Col. James D. and Dee-Dee Thurman, Fort Stewart, Ga.; a brother, Dewey Bassinger, Lewisville, Texas; a sister, Emma Bell Smith, Marietta; three granddaughters, Jerri Christine Berry, Jaime Thurman and Carey Thurman; a grandson, Ensign Patton Thurman; and two great-granddaughters, Justyn Berry and Austyn Berry.
Pallbearers will be J. Claude Brannan, Joe Franklin, Homer Koch, Bill McGehee, Gene Washburn and Dub Bell. Honorary bearers are John Yarbrough, Tom Riley, Ray Hilton and Ron Westfall.
Memorial donations may be made to VITAS' Hospice c/o Kennedy Funeral Home, 100 W. Main, Marietta, OK 73448.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
MADILL -- Services for Paul Leon Mark, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Watts Memorial Chapel with J.D. Leavelle officiating. Interment will follow at Mannsville Cemetery.
Mark died June 2, 1997, in the Tishomingo hospital after a sudden illness. He was born Sept. 5, 1917, at Bowie, Texas.
Reared in the Marland, Texas, area, he married Mattie Jo Nichols Sept. 25, 1942, in Ardmore, and traveled with a pipeline construction company as a heavy equipment operator. He moved to Mannsville in 1968 and was a member of Tishomingo Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, of the home in Mannsville; a daughter, Pat Engles, Ardmore; two brothers, Carl, Midland, and Glen, Bosier City, La.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Randy Ingles, Ralph Anderson, Virgil Page, Scott, Mark and Kevin Parkhill. Honorary bearers are Kenne Locke, Carl Peoples, Wes Waggoner and Nolen Anderson.
RINGLING -- Graveside services for Vernon M. Heffington, 71, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ringling Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Nicholson officiating.
Heffington died June 2, 1997, in the Healdton hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1925, at Connverville, to Charley M. and Zora Willis Heffington.
Reared in Connerville and Pontotoc, he entered the military in 1944, serving in the Navy during World War II and with the Army during the Korean War. He worked for American Zink Co. in Dumas, Texas, and moved in 1972 to Amarillo, Texas, to work for the Pentex Co., retiring in 1986. In 1990 he moved to Ringling. He and Lillian Katherine Killman were married Dec. 24, 1953, in Hinton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Aleah Nicholson Oct. 20, 1996.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Ronnie, Wheaton, Mo., Jerry, Amarillo, Larry and Kenneth, Ringling; a sister, Octavia Schackleford, Noble; three brothers, Wendyl, Arkansas, Joe Kenneth and Eugene, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be sons and grandsons, Kenneth, Ronnie, Jerry and Larry Heffington, Vernon Nicholson, Jason and Jeremy Heffington.
The body will be in state at Alexander Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Friday, then at his home southwest of Ringling during visitation until time for services.
Graveside rites for Edna Sessums, 96, Waurika, were scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Rose Hill Cemetery with Pryor Waid officiating.
Mrs. Sessums died June 3, 1997, in Waurika after an extended illness. She was born Feb. 17, 1901, in Deese, Indian Territory, near Ardmore, to John and Mary E. Pryor.
Reared at Ringling, she received her bachelor of arts degree from Southeastern State College, and her master's from the University of Oklahoma. She taught school at Dundee 17 years, then in Oklahoma City, retiring after 40 years in the field of education. She moved to Waurika in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1962.
Survivors include a son, Dexter, LaQuinta, Calif.; and a sister, Margaret Waid, Waurika.
Worley Funeral Home directed services.
Services for Lois Vance will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Bigger officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vance died June 3, 1997, in the local hospital. She was born March 22 ,1913, in Ardmore, to Dave and Odelia Murphy Mitchell.
A lifelong resident of Ardmore, she was a homemaker and longtime member of First Free Will Baptist Church. She and Ermin Vance were married Aug. 31, 1929, in Stobtown. He preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Wilson, Oswalt; two sons, Marland, Ringling, and Jimmy, of the home; a brother, Hubert Mitchell, Newport; nine grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Burnice McCurtain; a son, Kenneth; two brothers, Noah and Bud Mitchell; and two sisters, Effie Herring and Eva Taylor.
Bearers will be Mike Conway, Paul Lawson, Brian Wilson, Kevin Vance, Marshall and Larry Mitchell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
RATLIFF CITY -- Services for Jerry Don Perkins Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Ratliff City with the Rev. Dwight Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Davis, under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
Perkins died June 4, 1997, in Ratliff City. He was born June 11, 1969, at Fort Hood, Texas.
He had lived in this area most of his life and was a contract pumper. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father, Jerry D. Perkins Sr., and his wife, Velva, Ratliff City; his mother, Patti Coy, and her husband, Larry, Clayton; grandmothers, Audie Pickens, Ratliff City, and Mary Uzzel, Clayton; stepbrothers, Burl Baker, Mannford; and stepsister, Michelle Hickman, Broken Arrow.
Bearers will be Kenneth Spigner, Roger Burns, Leslie Jones, Charlie Wright, Lonnie Carter and Dub Dohannan.
CYRIL -- Services for Robert L. Miller, 81, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Cyril. Interment will be at Celestial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Binyon Cyril Funeral Home.
Miller died June 3, 1997, in Chickasha. He was born April 8, 1916, in Washita, to Robert L. and Lillie M. Painter Miller.
An Army veteran of World War II, he married Gladys McGuire Feb. 17, 1946, and had lived in Cyril most of his life. He was employed by Apco Refinery 35 years before he retired in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Glada Palesano, Ardmore; a son, Charley, Cyril; and four grandchildren.
Services for Betty Jean Anderson, Cheek, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Tyrone Turner officiating. Interment will be at Cheek Cemetery, Lone Grove.
Born Nov. 9, 1930, Ms. Anderson died June 4, 1997, in the local hospital after a brief illness.
She is survived by two sisters, Mamie Anderson, of the home, and Katie Anderson, Ardmore; and two brothers, Ruben, Woodford, and Loss, Ardmore.
Ragsdale-Grant and Sons Mortuary will direct services.
RINGLING -- Graveside rites for Marilyn Ruth Jackson, 66, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ringling Memorial Cemetery with Jack Browder officiating.
Mrs. Jackson died June 4, 1997, at her home. She was born Dec. 27, 1930, at Friona, Texas, to John D. and Marguerite McLellan Porter.
Reared at Hot Springs, N.M., she moved to Los Angeles where she married Roy Verlin Jackson in 1948. She had lived in Ringling since 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; and two brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Waters, Waurika; two sons, James, of the home, and Michael, Wenatchee, Wash.; her mother, Marguerite Porter; and brother, Gene Porter, Ringling; and seven grandchildren.
Alexander Funeral Home will direct services.
MADILL -- Services for Colin Jay LeFlore, 53, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Watts Memorial Chapel with Benny Keck and Darrell Stovall officiating. Interment will be at Kingston Cemetery.
LeFlore died June 5, 1997, at his Kingston home. He was born July 30, 1943, at Kingston.
Reared in Enos and Kingston, he attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University and served in the Army. He was founder and past president of Lake Texoma Guide Association and past president of Lake Texoma Association. He operated LeFlore's Striper Guide Service a number of years. He was a member of Kingston Church of Christ and Texoma Men's Golf Association. He and Teresa Lynn Hambrick were married Feb. 17, 1993, at Madill.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Dawn Corbett and Kelli Erwin; and his mother, Hazel LeFlore, all of Kingston; two brothers, Charles, Mesquite, Texas, and Paul, Aubrey, Texas; four sisters, Oteka Minter, Madill, Sharon Freeman, Broken Arrow, Lawana Self and Brenda Welch, Kingston; and three grandchildren.
Bearers will be Greg Martens, Gordon Dowlen, John Hoffman, Eddie Payne, Ralph Williams, Joe Jesmer, Steve Pierce and Buddy Rogers. Honorary bearers are Wendyl Hambrick, Tim Hammon, Richard Simonton, Wendell Wilkins, Ralph Self, Richard Freeman, Donnie Welch and Joe Minter.
