WAURIKA -- Funeral services for Bird Gerald Conners, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Eckel, pastor, officiating and Noel Curington assisting. Burial with military honors will be at the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Willis C. Worley Funeral Home.
Conners, a native of Waurika, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at his home after an extended illness. He was born May 26, 1919, the eldest of two sons born to James and Flora Conners. His parents died when he was a child and he was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ash. He grew up in Waurika and graduated from Waurika High School in 1937. He continued his education at the University of Oklahoma at Norman.
On March 6, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II and during the Korean conflict. He was discharged Dec. 22, 1953, with the rank of captain.
On June 5, 1943, he was married to Mary Louise Hodge in Waurika and the couple made their home in Lawton. He later returned to Waurika and served as Jefferson County Clerk from 1947 through 1950 when he was recalled to military duty.
After his second discharge he was a postal rural mail carrier at Moore, Okla., from 1961 until his retirement Dec. 31, 1978.
In 1979 the couple returned to Waurika to make their home. He was a veteran, a member of Rural Mail Carriers Association and First United Methodist Church.
He was a loving father and grandfather to this family.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise, of the home; two daughters, Carol Anne Harris, Ardmore, and Jane Louise Hoffman of Boise City; a brother, Gene Conners of Waurika; three granddaughters, Cheryl Anne Watkins of Alamagordo, N.M., Therisa Lynn Pilgreen of Stuttgart, Germany, and Claudia Jane Hoffman of Oklahoma City; two great-granddaughters, Blake and Bailey Pilgreen of Stuttgart; and a niece, Flora LuRee Proctor of Hurst, Texas.
GUTHRIE -- Services for former Ardmore resident Lola Mae Lee will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Remembrance under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Directors Inc. in Guthrie. Interment will be at Arlington Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Lee was born Jan. 27, 1928, at Guthrie, to Arthur and Rebecca Johnson. She lived in Tatums, then in Ardmore for many years before moving to Oklahoma City. She was married to Nathaniel J. Lee Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; and brother, Clyde Johnson.
Survivors include two sons, Nathaniel Jr. and Troy W., Oklahoma City; three daughters, Ruby Burkhalter, Kansas City, Mo., Joyce Sneed and Pamela Jones, Oklahoma City; a brother, Ardie Johnson, Dallas; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services for Nathan Kyle Andrews, 13, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Wade Paschal and the Rev. Dan Patman officiating.
Andrews died July 28, 1997, in Oklahoma City following an extended illness. He was born Feb. 20, 1984, in Ardmore.
A student at Ardmore Middle School, he was active in band, as well as baseball, football and soccer. He was also active at First United Methodist Church with the youth group and Sunday school class.
He is survived by his parents, Max and Darla Sharp Andrews; a brother, Kevin; and sister, Lindsey, all of the home; his grandparents, Jack and Donna Andrews, Oklahoma City, and Joe and Betty Sharp, Albion, Neb.; and great-grandmothers, Edna Andrews, Oklahoma City, and Ollie Sharp, Marietta.
Honorary bearers will be his classmates.
Memorials may be made to the Nathan Andrews Memorial Youth Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1632, Ardmore, OK 73402.
FOX -- Services for Danny Pat Ward, 59, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Fox Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Keck officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore.
Ward died July 29, 1997, in the Ardmore hospital after a two-month illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1938, at Fox to Hays B. and Nora Elliott Ward.
He served in the Navy, primarily stationed at Lemoore Naval Air Station, Calif., and had six tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired after 20 years of service. He returned with his family to Fox and taught welding at the Southern Oklahoma Technology Center 20 years before he retired May 31, 1997. He and Sharon Williams were married April 14, 1970, in Hampton, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, John, Fox; two daughters, Shari Fore, Fox, and Danette Morris, Ardmore; six sisters, LaVina B. Riley, Stillwater, Nora Garrison, Bowie, Texas, Bobbie Stone, Dallas, Nelda Keck, Woodford, Betty Fuller, Columbia, S.C., and Sarah Camp, Ratliff City; two brothers, Brad, Gordonville, and Jim, Madill; and five grandchildren.
Bearers will be Robert Huff, Bill Coleman, Steve Pinion, Jim Dodson, Rusty Pierce and Rick Clement. Honorary bearers will be his former welding students.
Reser Funeral Home will direct services.
TATUMS -- Services for Burl Carter, 84, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Lawson officiating. Interment will follow at Tatums Cemetery under the direction of Kirk-Dawson-Dillard Funeral Home.
Carter died July 29, 1997, at his home in Tatums. He was born May 9, 1913, to Henry and Queenie Hooks Carter.
A lifelong resident of Tatums, he graduated from high school there and was an active member of the Bethel Baptist Usher Board. He and Roberta Buycks were married in 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife and a stepson, Thomas.
Survivors include a stepson, Raymond Mann, Duncan; two stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private services for Izaiha Terrell Williams, age 15 months, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kirk Chapel. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
The child was born April 10, 1996, and died July 29, 1997, in an Oklahoma City hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Tara Qualls, Oklahoma City; his father, Jerrad Watae Williams, Ardmore; a sister, Keona Williams, Ardmore; grandparents, Lonnie Qualls, Madill, Mamie and Wallace Williams and Phyllis Osman, Ardmore; and great-grandparents, Evelyn Wates Freeman, Gene Autry, and Frazier Freeman, Phoenix.
Kirk-Dawson-Dillard Funeral Home will direct services.
IRVING -- Services for Clabe Burnett, 63, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Irving Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence Mize officiating. Interment will be at Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Grantham-Worley Funeral Home.
Burnett died July 30, 1997, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1934, at Ryan to Clabe and Thrya Burnett.
The lifelong Jefferson County resident was reared at Ryan and attended Oklahoma A&M College. The Army veteran had a farming operation and worked as Ryan School clerk 28 years. He and Adrianne Veach were married May 29, 1975, at Ryan. He was a member of Irving Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three daughters, Kim Aseltine, Modesto, Calif., Ann Franklin, Ryan, and Laura Brice, Comanche; a son, Brad Harrod, Oklahoma City; his mother, Thrya Benett, Ryan; two sisters, Marion Burden and Marty Evans, Fort Worth, Texas; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
HEALDTON -- Graveside rites for Morgan C. "Bog" Holder, 86, were at 10 a.m. today at Mount Olive Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating.
Holder died July 30, 1997, at the veterans center in Ardmore. He was born Aug. 25, 1910, at Marietta to Gilbert L. and Abbie L. Morris Holder.
As a boy he worked in his father's dray yard in Marietta then moved to Ragtown where he was reared, attending Dundee schools. He worked in the oil fields in various capacities, including driller and pusher. He was a chief petty officer in the Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Rhea, of the home; a son, Donald L., Lone Grove; three stepsons, Ronald Quick, Willis, James Q. and Jon D. Wilkinson, Lawton; a stepdaughter, Monna R. Fullerton, Dallas; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.
Reser Funeral Home directed services.
MARIETTA -- Services for Marion S. Porter, 84, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Gardner officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Mrs. Porter died July 28, 1997, in Plant City, Fla. She was born Nov. 26, 1912, at Quincy, Ill., to Hinerich L. and Amanda Holtmann Sieleman.
Married to Elmer G. Porter March 22, 1940, at Las Vegas, she moved from Marietta to Florida in 1987. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 8, 1985. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn, Tampa, Fla., Gilbert, Chaska, Minn., and Don, Yorba Linda, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
Nathan "Nate" Kyle Andrews, 13, was born Feb. 20, 1984, in Ardmore, and born again in Christ most recently through his Confirmation in the summer of 1996. Nathan passed away Monday, July 28, 1997, after battling 11 months of the disease Ewing Sarcoma cancer.
Please join Nathan's family and friends as we celebrate his life during his memorial services at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the First United Methodist Church of Ardmore.
Nathan's warm and gentle spirit was an inspiration to all. Nathan so dearly loved his family. Hearing the words, "I love you" and receiving a hug are commonplace in the Andrews family. Nate truly loved playing the role of big brother to both Kevin and Lindsey.
Nathan celebrated Christ's life with his church family through Sunday School and youth group at First United Methodist Church. Nathan made many friends through his church and school at Ardmore Middle School, and loved all his friends deeply. He enjoyed time with his friends roller blading, playing baseball, football and soccer, going fishing and camping, playing video games and listening to music. Making friends with "Nate" was easy.
Nathan's loving parents are Max and Darla Andrews; a brother, Kevin, (9); and sister, Lindsay, (7). His paternal grandparents are Jack and Donna Andrews of Oklahoma City, and maternal grandparents are Joe and Betty Sharp of Albion, Neb. Paternal great-grandmother is Edna Andrews of Oklahoma City, and his maternal great-grandmother is Ollie Sharp of Marietta. There are numerous wonderful uncles, aunts and cousins.
Nathan's greatest wish was to be able to express his love and great appreciation to his many friends for your support, for your many donations, your visits to the hospital, and especially for all your thoughts and prayers. Nathan truly loves each and every one of you.
Honorary bearers will be his classmates from Ardmore Middle School.
Nathan's family would like all his friends to come and visit and share their memories with them Friday evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m.

MADILL -- Service for Martha Leoma Stuckey, 57, were Tuesday at Watts Memorial Chapel with Lyndol Adams officiating. Interment was at McMillan Cemetery.
Mrs. Stuckey died July 26, 1997, at her home in McMillan. She was born Oct. 22, 1939, at Payson.
She attended school at Seminole, Prague and Madill, and married Raymond John Stuckey Feb. 1, 1956, at Gainesville, Texas. They moved to the Marshall County area from Oklahoma City in 1965.
She is survived by her husband, of the home; four sons, Larry, Kingston, Jerry, Billy and Johnnie, McMillan; two daughters, Marsha Maxwell, Lone Grove, and Donna McCool, Oklahoma City; her mother and stepfather, Mary E. and John Blackburn, McMillan; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Ray Mays; a brother, Arthur Mays; and two sisters, Mary Jo and Judy Mays.
Bearers were Jerry Pierce, Andy and Herschel Hughes, Billy W. and Billy G. Stuckey, Ernie and Joe Fincher. Honorary bearers were Bearl Elmore, Jim Shown, Tommy Smith and Carl Mathews.
Services for Irene Grace West, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Craddock Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Monty Baggett officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born Oct. 29, 1914, in Okeema to James L. and Rebecca Gaines Lester, she died Aug. 2, 1997, at a local hospital. She married Charles West on July 16, 1938, in California. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Marie West; a son, Dwight West; and a sister, Marie Williams.
A resident of Ardmore for 62 years, Mrs. West was the former owner and operator of the Checker Cab Company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Faith Sunday school class.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Murphy, Ardmore; two sons, Doug West, Ardmore, and James West, Cameron; one sister, Nellie Keith, Ardmore; one brother, Charlie Farris, Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bearers are Paul Pearson, Bruce Ayles, Kevin McGuire, Jim Hertsler, John DeHart and Steve Thompson. Members of the Senior Adult Three Sunday School Department will serve as honorary bearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Monday.
Services are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
