Funeral services for Carson Clifton, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Bryant officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Clifton was born to E.W. and Virgie Clifton on April 15, 1919, in Ardmore. He died Sept. 20, 1997, at his residence in Stillwater.
He was a former resident of Ardmore and had lived in Stillwater the past 18 years. He was a Baptist, a plumber and member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 344.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Glen and Cathy Clifton of Richards, Texas; daughters and their husband, Nancy and Farris Richards of Ardmore, Anita and Richard King of Hurst, Texas, June and Bob Reynolds of Hydro, and Patricia and Donny Sowell of Bedias, Texas; stepsons and their wives, Clyde and Linda Anderson of Lewisville, Texas, and Larry and Minnie Anderson of Mustang; stepdaughter and her husband, Carolyn and Gary Curtis of Safford, Ariz.; a brother and his wife, George and Kathleen Clifton of Marietta; sisters, Virginia Snodgrass of Tulsa, Mary and her husband, Lee Moss of Tulsa, and Daphene and her husband, Haskell Blancett of Silver City, N.M.; 41 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; by a brother; and two sisters.
Bearers will be Cliff Smith, Scott Eldridge, Randall Clifton, Jason Reynolds, Todd Harvey and Barney Hickman. Honorary bearers will be Farris Richards, Bobby Reynolds, Donny Sowell and Richard King.
The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Services for Annie M. Lawson, Tatums, will be at noon Thursday at the Carter Metropolitan C.M.E. Church in Fort Worth, Texas. The Rev. Paul Lawson will officiate. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Arlington, Texas. A wake will be conducted at 7 tonight at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Fort Worth.
Mrs. Lawson died Sept. 20, 1997, in Fort Worth. She was born July 11, 1934, in Smithville, Texas.
She was first lady of Bethel Baptist Church in Tatums where she was a member of the choir, a youth sponsor, active in Sunday school and served as a missionary. She was also a member of the Spiritual Relators of Fort Worth.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Frank M. Lawson, Tatums; five sons, Wilburn Lawson Sr., Phoenix, Gerald Lawson, Ardmore, the Rev. Paul Lawson, Mesquite, Texas, the Revs. Clyde Lawson and Frank D. Lawson, Fort Worth; two daughters, Barbara Lawson and Pauletha Amos, Fort Worth; three brothers, Moses Cephus, Alvarado, Texas, Paul Cephus, Garland, Texas, and Solomon Cephus, Fort Worth; a sister, Elizabeth Chavis, Fort Worth; 28 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Gregory W. Spencer Funeral Directors Inc., Fort Worth, will direct services.
Services for Alvin R. Martens will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Mike Martens and Harold McPeak officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Born March 13, 1909, at Gotebo to Jacob and Mary Martens, he died Sept. 21, 1997, in Seattle.
He served with the Seabees during World War II and had lived in Ardmore 41 years before moving in August 1992 to Seattle. He was a retired Baptist minister who pastored several churches in the Ardmore area, and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in Seattle.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Mike Martens, Seattle; a sister, Emma Heldermon, Hinton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services for Anna Pearl Adair will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Craddock Memorial Chapel with Dr. Walt Spradling officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta.
Mrs. Adair died Sept. 22, 1997, in the local hospital. She was born Sept. 7, 1919, at Lone Grove to Oscar and Delia B. Wallace Denney.
She married Thurman Adair and had lived in Ardmore all her life. She was a Baptist. Her husband preceded her in death in December 1966. She was also preceded by four brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by a stepson, Thurman, Glendale, Ariz.; two sisters, Thelma Denney and Helen Helms, Ardmore; three brothers, Wayne Denney, Lone Grove, Vernon and Robert Denney, Ardmore; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
Bearers will be Gary Ruth, Joe, Russell, Roy, James and Charles Denney.
LONE GROVE -- Graveside rites for Opal Marie Holbert, 80, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lone Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating.
Born on March 11, 1917, in Loco, Okla., Mrs. Holbert passed away on Sept. 21, 1997, in the Ardmore hospital after a brief illness.
She married James Jefferson Holbert on Sept. 23, 1933, in Velma, Okla. He preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1991.
Mrs. Holbert had lived in Lone Grove since 1989. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Lone Grove.
Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Blom of Mesa, Ariz.; and a granddaughter, Desiree Stebbins, also of Mesa.
Mrs. Holbert will lie in state Wednesday at the Harvey-Douglas Lone Grove Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m.
Services for Alfred C. Whitehurst, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Chapel with the Rev. Bill Freeman officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Whitehurst, who died Sept. 23, 1997, in the local hospital, was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Ardmore, to Oscar and Hazy Whitehurst.
A graduate of Ardmore High School, he attended Oklahoma A&M College where he was the national wrestling champion two years. In 1941, he was chosen Most Outstanding College Wrestler in the United States and became a member of the Helms Wrestling Hall of Fame. He was owner/operator of Whitehurst Bait and Tackle shop and a member of Masonic Lodge 31.
Whitehurst served in the Navy during World War II as flight directional officer. He and Veda Brocaw were married Aug. 14, 1943, at Wichita, Kan.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Mike, Ardmore; three daughters, Mary Lou Fairman, Savannah, Ga., Jane Stevens and Barbara Vick, Ardmore; a brother, William, Norman; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Jim Pippin, Woody Jackson, Salty Bridgman, Clifton Crowson, Barney Taylor and Robert Boucher. Honorary bearers are Roy Bowman, Bill Boyd, Earl Van Bebber, Sidney Harrell, Ronnie Bloomfield and Bill Turner.
Graveside rites for Elmo E. Parker, Lone Grove, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Dewight Hawkins officiating.
Parker died Sept. 25, 1997, at his home. He was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Ardmore, to Elmo F. and Lela Parker.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he had lived in the Lone Grove area all his life and was an electrician for Samedan Oil Corp. before he retired. He also played with the Washita Valley Boys Band. He and Alta Camp were married June 23, 1954, at Gainesville, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Clarence L., Ardmore; two daughters, Debbie Sullivan, Ardmore, and Sharon Phelps, Lone Grove; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Dale, in 1973.

RINGLING -- Services for Olen G. Loving, 90, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. J.W. Ray officiating. Interment will be at Simon Cemetery under the direction of Reser Funeral Home.
Loving died Sept. 22, 1997. He was born July 28, 1907, in Denton, Texas, to Albert F. and Nora J. Cavins Loving.
He worked for Consolidated Aircraft, now Lockheed, in California and in Fort Worth, Texas, before entering the Navy in 1944 and serving in the Pacific campaign. He worked for Mistletoe Express, in the oil fields and was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service 37 years before he retired at the age of 76.
Loving served as mayor of Ringling several years and had been a member of First Baptist Church more than 50 years. He was also a Mason and member of American Legion. He and Kleo Fay Stewart were married Dec. 12, 1931, in Ardmore.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Betty Watson, Azle, Texas; three sisters, Mary Morgan, Wilson, Irene Chitwood, Courtney, and Nora L. Black, Marietta; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Marion Jean and Jayne Alyce; and two brothers, Owen and Otha.
Bearers will be Steve Camplain, Bobby Reid, Mike Moore, Jack Tipton, Jack Wilson and Bob Doss. Honorary bearers are Robert E. Wyche and Dean Bass.
SULPHUR -- Graveside rites for W.H. "Bill" Pettitt, 71, were scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating.
Pettitt died Sept. 22, 1997, in Ada. He was born April 3, 1926, at Durant, to Luther C. and Viola Manous Pettitt.
He was a retired truck driver and had lived in the Sulphur area most of his life before moving to Ada six years ago. He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Larry; and two sisters, Mary Cox and Nola Jackson.
Survivors include six daughters, Ronda Thomas and Darlene Peppard, both of Sulphur, Kay Watkins, Fort Smith, Ark., Cindy Rye, Tulsa, Terry Burris, Henryetta, and Carol Williams, Seminole; two brothers, James and Sam, both Sulphur; three sisters, Jo Ann Littlepage, Texas, Linda Pimmeran and Nellie Tray, both California; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Clagg Funeral Home will direct services.
MILBURN -- Services for Almon Rowland, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Darel Heath officiating. Interment will be at Condon Grove Cemetery under the direction of Corbin Funeral Home.
Rowland died Sept. 23, 1997, in Durant. He was born Sept. 16, 1920, at Milburn, to Alpha and Eva Pool Rowland.
Reared at Milburn, he received his master's degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and taught school at Milburn 32 years. He was also a rancher. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, past board member of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Soil Conservation, Mental Health of Southern Oklahoma and Bank of Johnston County. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church. He and Fern Alice Needham were married Oct. 25, 1941, at Tishomingo.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, James and Donald, Milburn; four sisters, Julia Ford, Gainesville, Texas, Mattie Copper, Antlers, Vern Taylor, Milburn, and Rose "Shug" Gleeson, Shawnee, Kan.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bay and A.L. Jr.
Bearers will be Dallas Boggs, Dale Callen, George Branch, Glenn Moore, Kenny Ford and Ike Bryant. Honorary bearers are Fred Swift and Pete Littlepage.
McALESTER -- Mass for Mary Katherine Schene, 99, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, McAlester. Rosary will be at 7 this evening at Chaney's Funeral Home chapel.
Mrs. Schene died Sept. 22, 1997, in McAlester. She was born July 10, 1898, at Krebs, Indian Territory, to Stephen and Dominica Silott.
She married Meleo M. Schene at Krebs in 1921 and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Her husband preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Meleo A., Ardmore, and Herbert M., Bellaire, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Herbert Jr., Michael, Tony and Jay Schene, Michael Lovera and Stanley McMullen.
Services for Richard Thomas "Rick" Warren, 45, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church with Dr. Douglas R. Miller officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Warren died Sept. 25, 1997, in the local hospital following a sudden illness. He was born Feb. 4, 1952, in Ardmore, to Billy Van and Billy Ruth Leach Warren.
A lifelong resident of Ardmore, he graduated from Ardmore High School in 1970, attended Rose State College and Oklahoma State University. He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. more than 25 years as a systems technician. He was a member of First Christian Church, vice president of the local chapter of the Communications Workers of America and active in youth organizations. He and the former Charel Remington were married June 28, 1986, in Ardmore.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Billy Shane, Edmond, and Richard Ryan, of the home; a daughter, Alyssa Marie, also of the home; a brother, Randy V., Moore; and sister, Dorenda Hammett, Ardmore.
Serving as bearers will be Charles Griffey, Rick Roberts, Tuck Wilkerson, Ron Deyalsingh, Mike Conway and Bruce Connely. Honorary bearers are Mike Wilson, Bill Gorbet and fellow crew members.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.

Graveside memorial services for former Ardmore resident Georgia Elizabeth Duston, Grass Valley, Calif., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jesse Whitlock officiating.
Mrs. Duston died June 10, 1997, in the Grass Valley hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1906, at Reck, Indian Territory, to Thomas H. and Jane N. Spencer Jones.
She graduated from Wilson High School and married Elmer "Buddy" Moorehead in January 1927. He died in 1931. She and Fount Duston were married in 1932. She was also preceded by a brother, Ted Jones. He died in 1952. She moved to California in the 1960s and to Grass Valley in 1985.
She is survived by a son, Jack Moorehead, Nevada City; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
