HEALDTON -- Graveside rites for Mattie Lee "Pat" England, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Cemetery with the Rev. Dwight Hawkins officiating.
Mrs. England died Oct. 9, 1997, in Pruitt City. She was born June 3, 1909, in Cookeville, Tenn., to Robert E. and Mary H. Lee Bull.
She moved with her family to Seminole as a child and married James "Jim" England Jan. 14, 1927, at Cromwell. She had lived in Healdton since 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, May 7, 1986; and two brothers, Herman and Johnny Bull.
Survivors include four daughters, Nell Smith, Pruitt City, Billie Bolles, Ardmore, Bobbye Pender and Pat England, Healdton; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as bearers.
Reser Funeral Home will direct services.
Services for Leota Mae Reed were 10 a.m. Saturday at Pooleville Community Church with the Rev. Hershel Baker officiating. Interment followed at Pooleville Cemetery.
Born Oct. 6, 1907, at Hennepin to Samuel J. and Dora Lammon Ashton, she died Oct. 9, 1997, in Elmore City.
She married John Reed in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1964. She married Pete Stephenson in 1967. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded by a son; five sisters; and one great-grandson.
She grew up in Garvin and Carter County and attended school at Hennepin and Satterwhite. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Earlene Upshaw, Betty McIntrye and Ruth Ward Harris; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
Graveside rites for Bonnie J. Welch, 92, were 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Robert D. Lee officiating.
Born March 30, 1905, at Thackerville to Tom and Lou Holland Langston, she died Oct. 10, 1997, at a local hospital following a brief illness. She married Odus G. Welch on Aug. 4, 1928, at Ardmore. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1995. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lucian, Chalmer and Mark Langston.
Mrs. Welch was a member of the First Orthodox Baptist Church. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for many years and was a member of the S.W. Bell Pioneer Breakfast Club and 42 Club.
Survivors include three brothers, H.E. Langston, Marietta, L.M. Langston and Fred Ruth Jr., both Thackerville; and one sister, Vena Northcutt, Marietta.
Services were under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
Services for Iris Pauline Cline, Wilburton, will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Wilburton. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore.
Born May 9, 1920, at Hat Creek, Wyo., to Fred and Sylvania Howell Bryant, she died Oct. 8, 1997, after a brief illness. She married Virgil L. Cline on Aug. 8, 1941. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1972. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and John Bryant; and an infant sister.
Mrs. Cline worked as a Bell Telephone Systems employee. She retired as a trainee supervisor on June 26, 1973, and moved from Dallas to Wilburton. She served on the Latimer County Election Board, chaired the annual quilt show and was a KiBois Head Start board member. She was a member of the AARP, FCE Extension Homemakers, the Kiamichi Quilt Guild and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Virgil F., Broken Arrow, and Gene R., Fayetteville, Ark.; one brother, Howell "Burr" Bryant, Lusk, Wyo.; two sisters, Evelyn Guibault, Hemet, Calif., and Tiny Crofutt, Lusk; and two grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Waldrop Funeral Home.
Memorial services for Harold George Dexter, 79, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Thom Balmer officiating. A private family interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Harold George Dexter was born to Florence W. and John R. Dexter on Aug. 5, 1918, in Ardmore, Okla., and passed away on Oct. 12, 1997, at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Ardmore, he graduated in 1936 from Ardmore High School and received his bachelor of arts degree in 1940 from The University of Oklahoma. He entered the U.S. Army in June of 1940 as a second lieutenant, and served overseas during World War II with the 99th and 1st Infantry Divisions. He was decorated for service in three major campaigns, including The Battle of the Bulge, for which he received the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged from the Army in November of 1945 with the rank of major. He returned to Ardmore in 1946, and later joined his father in business.
On March 7, 1942, Harold married Martine Burnett, to whom he was married 38 years. She preceded him in death on July 13, 1980. He married Zama Blanchard Jones on Aug. 12 1983.
Harold served as director on various boards, including Exchange National Bank and Trust Co., Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma, United Way, Ardmore Development Authority and Ardmore Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and former member and past president of the Rotary Club of Ardmore.
He is survived by his wife, Zama, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Georgeann Dexter; granddaughters, Mary and Ann; stepdaughters, Dr. Elizabeth Jones and Amanda Agiidami; and stepson, Dan Jones. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.
Honorary bearers are Ken Milburn, Ross Coe, Ben Mobley, Fred T. Collins and Walter Neustadt.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Services are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
JIMTOWN -- Services for Jake E. Gordon, 87, will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jimtown Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy Vinson and Wyman Richards officiating. Interment will be at Leon Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.
Gordon died Aug. 1, 1997. He was born Aug. 7, 1910, at Burneyville, to John and May Townsend Gordon.
A lifetime resident of Love County, he married Bessie Kirk on Nov. 2, 1936, at Jimtown, and was a member of Jimtown Baptist Church. Before he retired he was a farmer, school bus driver and security guard at Falconhead. He was preceded in death by a sister, three brothers and two grandsons.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, John Gordon and Bill Cooper, Jimtown; a daughter, Charlene Howerton, Jimtown; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be grandsons, Bruce Mobley, R.J. Howerton, Keith, Kurt, Jay and Joe Gordon. Honorary bearers are Ulys Mapp, Archelowe Terrill, Paul Hallum, Ott Ladner, F.S. Mapp, Joe Hicks, Boop Miller and Michael Mays.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
MARIETTA -- Services for Ilene Brian, 80, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
Mrs. Brian died at her home in Sapulpa where she had lived the past six years. She was born March 23, 1917, at Henryetta, to Benjamin M. and Virginia Been Guinn.
A resident of Marietta 25 years before moving to Sapulpa, she was active at First Baptist Church, Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and Love County Extension Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, K.C. Brian, in 1975; a son, Bobby; five sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Jr., Monroe, La., and Michael, Okmulgee; a daughter, Deborah Tice, Sapulpa; a brother, Earl Guinn, Ardmore; a sister, Velda Bateman, Ardmore; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Wade Moore, Bud Hill, O.I. Vinson and Alvin Hilton. Lamar Carter is honorary bearer.
WILSON -- Funeral services for Jimmie Lee Ferguson, 80, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Tolbert and Darel Bunch officiating. Interment will be at Hewitt Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Born July 12, 1917, to Charles A. and Flora T. Angelly Thomas at Duncan, Mrs. Ferguson died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, in the Ardmore hospital.
Reared in the Duncan-Lawton area, she married Joe J. Ferguson on Dec. 2, 1939, at Edinburg, Texas, and they moved that same year to Wilson. She was employed by the Wilson Public Schools from 1965 until 1978 when she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 20, 1984; an infant son in 1941; and two sisters, Mildred Towler and Willie Ritchie.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Jerry Hope, Healdton, and Glenda and Larry Stearns, Wilson; a brother, C.R. Thomas, Duncan; five grandchildren, Tina Davis, Ada, Kelly Dickson, Whitesboro, Texas, Jeffery, Kevin and Kimberly Stearns, Wilson; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jace Dickson, Whitesboro, Connor Davis, Ada, Joey and Brookelyn Stearns, Wilson.
Bearers will be Joe Bates, Roy Hunziker, Bill Monroe, Ronald Gunter, Roscoe Gunter and Dwain Blackburn. Honorary bearers are George Strawn and K.A. "Chink" Reeder.
MADILL -- Services for John Larkin Sherwood, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Watts Memorial Chapel with Elton Vaughn officiating. Interment will be at McMillan Cemetery.
Sherwood died Oct. 10, 1997, in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1918, at McMillan.
Reared at McMillan, he served in the military during World War II and lived in California where he worked as a diesel mechanic for many years. He married Barbara Flemming on Sept. 20, 1978, and they lived at McMillan 10 years before moving to Tishomingo.
Survivors include his wife, of the home in Tishomingo; four children, Johnathon and Elizabeth Sherwood, Tishomingo, and Brandon and Keith Sherwood, Savanah; two brothers, Oliver and Woody, Madill; two sisters, Fariel Bridgeman, Madill, and Billie Tizano, Sherman, Texas; and two grandchildren.
DAVIS -- Services for Alice L. Ayers will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fox Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. A.C. Ezell officiating. Interment will be at Elmore City Cemetery.
Mrs. Ayers died Oct. 12, 1997, in Sulphur. She was born Feb. 6, 1913, at Amber, to Albert and Rosa A. Robinson Hicks.
She was a member of First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by three husbands, J.W. Hudgins, Ted Simmons and Jeff "Jockey" Ayers, who died April 27, 1995. They were married July 21, 1973, in Elmore City. She was also preceded by a son, Nute Simmons; four sisters, Jewel Beaty, Neva Wigley, Sybil and Lela Couch; and a brother, Charles Hicks.
Survivors include a son, Eull W. Hudgins, Winchester, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruby Woodward and Viola Larimore; and brother, Thomas Hicks, Oklahoma City; two stepdaughters, Dorothy Shumaker, Davis, and Barbara Ayers, Commerce; a stepson, Joe Ayers, Davis; four granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
ADA -- Services for former Ardmoreite Wayne Byers, 52, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Woodrow Fields officiating. Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery.
Byers died Oct. 13, 1997, at his home. He was born Oct. 11, 1945, at Lodi, Calif., to Alfred H. and Gwendolyn Cavner Byers.
He attended school at Dickson and married Nancy Fulsom on Aug. 10, 1973, in Ardmore. He moved to Ada in 1980 and retired as custodial supervisor at East Central University. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Darrell, Ardmore; a daughter, Miranda Byers, Ada; four sisters, Marilyn Goins, Texas, Carolyn Harrell, Dorothy Lee and Cathy Faulkenberry, Ardmore; six brothers, Allen, Luther, Kenneth, Eldon, Denny and David, all of Ardmore.
SAND SPRINGS -- Services for Bobby Gene Inglett, 54, were Monday at Broadway Baptist Church in Sand Springs.
Inglett died Oct. 10, 1997, in Tulsa. He was born June 25, 1943, at Durant.
He was a superintendent at Flintco Construction Co. 27 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Imogene; and a brother, Gary.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters, Tracy Lemmons, Ardmore, and Rita Whittington, Broken Arrow; two sons, Joey Inglett, Ardmore, and Mark Hunt, Owasso; his father, Robert, Sand Springs; a sister, Teresa Shields, Tulsa; and 15 grandchildren.
Griffin Memorial Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, directed the services.
Services for Phyllis Mecey, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harvey-Douglas Chapel with John Lewis officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Mecey died Oct. 14, 1997, in Ardmore. She was born Feb. 1, 1915, at Milo, to Ira W. and Olga Redding.
A resident of Ardmore most of her life, she married Larry Mecey after moving in 1977 to Phoenix. In July she returned to Ardmore. She was employed by Cook's Laundry before she retired. Her husband preceded her in death in 1981. She was also preceded by two sisters and an infant brother.
Survivors include two sons, Garry Beard, Marysville, Calif., and Harrell Kennedy, Ardmore; three daughters, Joyce Ray, Hurst, Texas, Donna Jackson, Ardmore, and Jan Banner, Wichita Falls, Texas; five sisters, Eloyce Redding, Phoenix, LaVern Cox, Ardmore, Reba Leerstang, Madill, Betty Lawrence, Waurika, Peg Sanderson and Pat Goodman, Duncan; a brother, Duane Redding, Lawton; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Bearers will be Steve Daniels, Rob Waggoner, Steve Rey, Jim Cox, Deren and Doug Epley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice.
