Stockton died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004. He was born on April 4, 1927 at Custer City, the son of Levi M. Stockton II and Ilo Hahnn.
On Sept. 29, 1979 he married Nana W. Sherrell. He graduated from Stafford High School and was a veteran of World War II in the Army 91st Chemical Motor Group.
A professional driver for Graves truck line for 37 years, he won numerous national million-mile safety awards.
Stockton was a member of the Midwest City Masonic Lodge No. 532, a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, the director staff and the hospital staff club of the India Temple. He loved fishing.
Survivors include his wife, nana; children, Jan, Steve, Michael, Gary and Debbie; and siblings, William (Bill), Darlene, Belle, Kenneth, and Eldon.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Levi M. Stockton III; and a daughter, Shirlene Burke.
Hilda Ediger services set at 6:12 pm
Her father served at the time as a missionary to a Cheyenne Indian Mennonite church near Clinton, and Hilda spent her childhood in Oklahoma. Many of her friends were Indian children, and she grew up speaking English, German and Cheyenne.
In May of 1924 she graduated from the eighth grade. Instead of attending high school she attended the Oklahoma Bible Academy in Meno for two years before returning to Clinton where she graduated as valedictorian of Clinton High School in 1929.
That same year, she was baptized in the Haoanam Mennonite Church near Clinton.
She enrolled in Bethel College at North Newton, Kans. in August of 1929.
To help pay for her education, she got a job as secretary to the registrar.
After three years of college, she accepted a teaching position in the Hochfeld Rural School in Kansas.
It was here that she met Rein, her eventual husband. They attended Bethel College in 1934-35, and she graduated with an AB degree.
Because of the Depression, Rein went back to help his parents to help them on their farm, and Hilda taught English at Clinton Junior High School.
On Aug. 25, 1938, Reinhard David Voth and Hilda were married by her father in the front yard of her parents’ house.
They settled in Goessel, Kans where she taught at Good Hope School and Goessel High School.
After taking time out to rear their two girls, she returned to teaching in 1953 at Gordon Grade School in Goessel.
In the fall of 1955 she started teaching in Moundridge Junior High before transferring to the high school where she taught English, Latin and German.
Her teaching career at Moundridge eventually spanned 25 years.
After retiring at age 70, Hilda and Rein often traveled to see their children and on trips to such places as Alaska, Europe, Morocco, Atlanta and Delaware as well as regular trips to the Colorado mountains.
The Edigers spent 10 years doing full-time volunteer work at Bethel College. She worked in the Historical Library where her duties included translating German documents into English.
She also translated hundreds of historical documents for individuals and churches.
Ediger was a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church for 65 years and taught Sunday school there into her 90’s.
Visitation will be at the Miller Funeral Home in Goessel, Kans. where family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Visitation will open at 3 p.m.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy Voth Regehr and her husband, David, of Manhattan, Kans., Kathy Voth Cullen and her husband, Mike, of Atlanta, Ga.; a younger brother, Donald Ediger and his wife, Lois; three sisters-in-law, Bethel Ediger, Martha Vogt, Phyllis Voth; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, John Regehr and his wife, sarah, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Eric Regehr of Anchorage, Alaska, Heather Makoski of Denver, Colo.; and a step grandchild, Sheila Cullen of Atlanta, Ga.
Rites slated for McVarish at 6:12 pm
Reared in Gridley, Calif., he graduated from Gridley High School in 1952.
After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and used the GI Bill to attend the University of California Berkeley where he graduated in 1957.
McVarish later was a professor at several colleges, including the University of Kentucky where he was introduced to Carla. They were married on March 17, 1975 in Lincoln, Neb.
Their jobs took them to South Dakota for a couple of years before they moved to Weatherford and went to work for New Horizons at Clinton in 1983.
They moved to Corn in 1985 where he had lived for the last 20 years, retiring in 1996.
McVarish enjoyed computers, reading and spending time with his dogs.
His parents preceded him in death.
Burial will follow in the Corn Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Carla, of the home; a daughter and her husband, Kay and Jim Boudinot of Concorde, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Bashe of New Hampshire; and a brother, Ian McVarish of Davis, Calif.
Allen rites to be held Monday at 6:11 pm
In addition to a degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University he went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University.
He served in the Department of Public Welfare at Clinton, the State Examiner and Inspector’s Office, as executive secretary to the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges and as assistant director of Oklahoma Emergency Management.
Allen also served his country for 42 years in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, being honorably discharged at the rank of colonel.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Vondel Smith Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jo Allen; three sons, Greg and his wife, Greg and his wife, Kay Lee, Mike and his wife, Annemarie, Daniel and his wife, Carla; a daughter, Patricia and her husband, Michael Brown; a sister, Carol Allison and her husband, Don; a brother, Donald Allen and his wife, Paula; a sister-in-law, Mary Allen; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Katelyn, Jacob, Seth, Sarah, Hannah, Hayden, Landry, Marshall; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lyle Wayne Newland died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at the Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born on July 23, 1930 in Highmore, S.D., the son of Albert and Helen (Bonnichsen) Newland.
Reared in South Dakota, he spent most of his adult life in Huron, S.D., marrying Joyce Lippert on Feb. 3, 1951 there.
As a young man he worked as an auto body repairman and for a dairy. In 1961 he began his career with an Armor & Co. packing plant, working for the firm for 31 years and becoming their master mechanic before retiring in 1992.
As a young man he liked fast cars, hotrods, hunting and fishing. He also loved family gatherings and later enjoyed golfing and camping.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Joyce, of the Clinton home; daughters, Terrilyn Kinney and her husband, Doyle, of Clinton, Jacqueline Coop and her husband, William, of Scottsbluff, Neb., Lisa Driggers and her husband, Wayne, of Yukon; grandchildren, Heidi (Kinney) Long and her husband, Joe, of Norman, Shane Coop and his wife, Maranda, of Scottsbluff, Neb., Hillary (Kinney) Wilson and her husband, Jason, of Elk City; Jeremy Driggers and his wife, Vanessa, of Yukon, Adam Coop and his wife, Cheri, of Scottsbluff, Neb.; great-great grandchildren, Megan and Molly Wilson, Kassidy Long, Colton Driggers, Emzie Coop, Thaddeus Coop; two sisters, Betty Iverson and her husband, Glen, of Demset, S.D., Delma Mattke and her husband, Delvin, of Huron, S.D.; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that those who desire may make memorial contributions in Newland’s honor to the First Christian Church Sign Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
Edith Askins rites to be held Tuesday at 6:59 pm
During World War II she worked in defense plants in Southern California where she and her husband, Herman T. Askins, resided and reared their two sons, Henry Owen and Jimmy Jean Barnhart.
In 1977, upon Herman’s retirement from the railroad, the couple moved to Clinton to make their home.
Edith enjoyed searching for antiques, attending yard sales and always looked forward to a good auction.
Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were seven brothers; six sisters; and her youngest son, Jimmy Jean.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include her husband, Herman, of the home; a son, Henry Barnhart, his wife, Lynn, and their five children, Sherry Overbeck and her husband of Tucson, Ariz., Carol Blackwood of Canon City, Colo., Jessie Williams and his wife, Jenny, Christen Roland, all of Memphis, Tenn, Amanda Williams of Clinton.
Edith’s great grandchildren include Crystal Huenergardt and her husband, Wess, Carol DeLong and her husband, Harland, Brandon and Leslie Blackwood, all of Rock Springs, Wyo., Josh Blackwood of Canon City, Colo., Hannah and Sara Williams of Memphis, Tenn.
great-great grandchildren include Tilson, Mariah, Alexis, Jeriah and Andon.
Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Services set for McVeigh at 6:58 pm
Charles Raymond McVeigh died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004. He was born on Sept. 16, 1942 at Elk City, the son of Ambrose and Annette (O’Hara) McVeigh.
He attended St. Joseph’s and graduated from Elk City High School.
Because his parents died when he was young, he was adopted by an aunt and uncle, Anna Marie and Phillip Strobel, and he later began working in farming and oilfield security services.
He was an avid gardener and race car fan.
McVeigh was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Phillip Strobel, and a daughter, Christy McVeigh.
Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Hogue, of the Canute home; two daughters, Cheryl Mayfield of Elk City, Cindy Mayfield and her husband, Robert, of Clinton; a sister, Dorothy Ritchie and her husband, Neal, of New Braunfels, Texas; six grandchildren, Kelli Ezell, Kaylee Mayfield, Dusty Mayfield, Bobby and Crystal Mayfield, Laura Coon; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services for James William (Joim) Elmore, age 82 of Burns Flat, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Dill City.

A chapel service for Clarence M. Stanford, age 81 and a Clinton High School star athlete in the late 1940’s, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Trinity Hospice chaplain Tami McKissick officiating.
Clarence Melvin Stanford died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on Aug. 6, 1923 in Swinsendale, Texas.
Reared in Clinton, he attended Clinton High School where he was a quarterback for the Red Tornadoes. In one game, he and his teammates scored more than 100 points against the Elk City Elks.
He also was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame at Stillwater and was recognized as having the “fastest pin” in Clinton High School — three seconds.
Called into the military before he graduated, he served in the 101st Airborne during World War II.
An auto mechanic, he served in the battles of Normandy, Rhineland Ardennes and the Central European Campaign, achieving the rank of sergeant.
He received the European Theatre Ribbon, four Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge and Combat Infantry Badge. He also achieved his “jump wings.”
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Clinton and graduated from high school in 1946.
He then started his career in construction and worked all over Western Oklahoma building houses for Realtors.
Stanford was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were his wife, Rose Ann; five children, two in infancy along with a daughter, Sandra, and two sons, Robert and Charles; a brother, Albert Lee Stanford; and three sisters, Iva Belle Scales, Lucille Cordell and Jewell Stanford.
A private burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Ann Blackstock of Piedmont; and a son, Billy Melvin Stanford of Parker, Colo.
Visitation was scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services for Robert L. “Bob” Stockton, age 77 of Midwest City, were held Saturday afternoon at the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Del City.
Memorial services for Clinton native Hilda Edna Ediger, age 94 of Goessel, Kans., will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel.
Ediger died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004. She was born on Aug. 4, 1910 in Clinton, the daughter of Jacob Bernhard Harder Ediger and Agatha Regier Ediger.
Funeral services for Donald “Don” McVarish, age 70 of Corn, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Corn Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Ken Gardner officiating.
McVarish died early Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on Aug. 7, 1934 at Reno, Nev., the son of John and Alberta (Jones) McVarish.
Funeral services for Arapaho native Gordon Keith Allen, age 68 of Oklahoma City, will be held at noon Monday in the New Hope United Methodist Church at 11600 N. Council Road in Oklahoma City with graveside service at the Arapaho Cemetery.
Allen died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004. He was born in Arapaho on Feb. 21, 1936, the son of Claude and Bernice Allen.

Funeral services for Edith Askins, age 91 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Holder officiating.
Askins died Thursday morning, Nov. 25, 2004, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born on Aug. 7, 1913 at Cache, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Mason.
A prayer vigil will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, for Charles McVeigh, age 62 of Canute, with Mass of Christian Burial set for 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at the St. Matthew Catholic Church in Elk City with Rev. Timothy Fuller officiating.
The prayer service will be in the chapel of the Martin Funeral Home at Elk City. Officiating will be Rev. Timothy Fuller.

Elmore died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home of Cordell.
