Jelinek died today, Jan. 20, 2004, at his home. He was born on Sept. 10, 1936, the son of Robert and Pearl (Miller) Jelinek of rural Arapaho.
He lived on the farm that his grandparents, Fred and Karolina Jelinek, had moved to in the early 1900’s.
Jelinek attended Arapaho School and worked for Bogle’s Tire Shop, Redland Theater and some local farmers.
When his mother became ill he stayed home to care for her. The reason he used “The King” behind his name the past few years is because his mother called him “The King” when he took care of her as her way of showing him how much she appreciated him.
After her death, he stayed on the family farm. He invited Christ into his life a few years ago.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee.
Burial will conclude in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia; a niece, Carolyn; and several cousins, including Clarence Muno, Pauline Schmidt, Richard Muno, Edward Muno, Carl Lambertus and Frank Lambertus.
Allen dies in Camargo Wed. at 3:02 pm

“Billie” Washburn was born on Feb. 16, 1934 in Hughes, Ark., the daughter of William “W.D.” and Emma (Phillips) Washburn. She died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital.
She grew up in the Clinton and Elk City area, attending the Clinton schools.
Jennings spent more than 30 years working as a waitress in Clinton restaurants. On July 24, 1952 she married Oliver Wayne Jennings, and the young couple made their home in Clinton.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Arapaho. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending music functions.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Wayne, in 1987; two brothers, Darewood and Ed Washburn; and four sisters, Ethyl Kaiser, Ruby Fowler, Martha Davis and Doris Stehr.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include three daughters, Cindy of the home, Carol and Melesa Jennings, both of Clinton; four sons, Billy of Norman, Johnny of Weatherford, Roger of Oklahoma City, Mike of Edmond; a sister, Minnie Harden and her husband, Homer, of Cordell; a brother-in-law, Sammy Jennings of Burns Flat; a sister-in-law, Ovida Parker of Clinton; 23 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Owens rites Wednesday at 1:25 pm
Growing up in Clinton, she graduated from Clinton High School and continued her education to become a certified nurse’s aide.
She had worked at Crestview and Willow Park Nursing Homes in Lawton as well as the Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder.
A member of the Southeast Church of Christ, Owens enjoyed shopping.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Tig of Arkansas, Kaneskia Collins of Oklahoma City; a son, Ronnie Lister of Clinton; a brother, Preston Marshall of Tulsa; a step brother, Jimmy Olden; a step sister, Margaret Rogers; and two grandchildren.

Jerry Neil Morris died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at his Okemah home. He was born on Dec. 17, 1951 in Clinton, the son of Harold Dean and Zelma Elizabeth (Thompson) Morris.
Reared in Arapaho, he graduated from Arapaho High School in 1969 and soon joined the U.S. Army, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.
After his honorable discharge he returned to the Arapaho area and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University Weatherford where he earned a degree in business administration.
He worked in the oil and gas industry during the 1980s and later owned and operated the Black Gold Company in Oklahoma City.
Morris moved back to Arapaho and worked for the Clinton Veterans Center in the business administration office.
After a couple of years he transferred to Okmulgee. He also was on Gov. David Walters’ Quality Control Board.
He became disabled and had to take a medical retirement. Morris had been living at Okemah for the past nine months.
He was a member of the Vicksburg Church, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He also enjoyed raising Colorado Rocky horses, and his passion was helping other veterans apply for and get their benefits.
His father preceded him in death.
Burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Zelma Morris of Arapaho; his daughter, Christinie Finnell of Broken Arrow; his son, Wesley Morris of Tulsa; a sister, Shirley Hunter of Clinton; two brothers, Stan Morris of Watonga; Larry Morris of Arapaho; two grandchildren, Tyler and Alexis; and several aunts, uncles and cousins, including his aunt Zerita Kiesau of Clinton.
Services set for Kirschner at 4:54 pm
Kirschner died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the United Methodist Health Care Center. She was born on Jan. 18, 1916 in Elk City, the daughter of Menno and Mina (Smith) Johnson.
She attended school in Clinton and Bessie and was salutatorian of the Class of 1933 at Bessie High School.
On De.c 22, 1946 she married Leonard Kirschner in Elk City. Early in their marriage they ran a grocery and meat market before purchasing Chandler’s Flower Shop where they worked side-by-side for many years.
She was in the Women’s Guild and worked as a volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program as well as teaching Sunday school. She was secretary of the Bessie Alumni Association.
She loved quilting, embroidery, canning, baking and working crossword puzzles.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a brother, A.R. Johnson; a sister, Doris Johnson; an infant son, Robert Allen; and a grandson, Leo Brown III.
Burial will conclude in the Union-Hatchett Cemetery north of Bessie under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include daughters, Helen Vowell and her husband, Terry, of Thomas, Ann Brown of Clinton; a son-in-law, Butch Brown of Clinton; sisters, Imo McLean of McAlester, Mickey Guthrie of Keizer, Ore., Jean Merritt of Sapulpa; a brother, Bill Johnson of McAlester; grandchildren, Brett Vowell of Riverside, Calif., Brian and Alyssa Vowell of Mustang, Toby and Lea Brown of Stillwater, Mollie Brown of Weatherford; great grandchildren, Allie and Ben Brown; and a special niece, Fran Reuber.
Fletcher services set at 4:53 pm
Fletcher died early Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on Sept. 24, 1959 in Clinton, the son of Claude and Anosta (Whiteturtle) Fletcher, Sr.
Reared in Elk City, he attended Riverside Indian School and was trained as an emergency medical technician. He had worked for the Cheyenne-Arapaho Ambulance Service as well as the North Fork Correctional Facility in Sayre as a security guard and also had worked for Bar-S Foods.
In his spare time he enjoyed Indian hand games and was an avid University of Oklahoma Sooners fan.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were three brothers, Rufus White Turtle, Ralph Fletcher, Claude Fletcher, Jr.; and two sisters, Ruby Keeton and Claudine Flying Out.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include four sisters, Arleen Kauley and Susie Fletcher of Hammon, Chloe Orange, Irene Standingwater and Minerva Rodriquez, all of Elk City; two adopted sisters, Emma Lou Brewer of Elk City, Elizabeth Thunderbull of Clinton; and a stepdaughter, Tessa Renee Redd of Merritt.

Merkey died Friday morning, Jan. 7, 2005, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on Jan. 10, 1931 at Cloud Chief, the son of Pearl R. and Vinnie Opal (Andrews) Merkey.
He finished one year of high school before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving from Jan. 8, 1954 to April 15, 1960 before receiving an honorable discharge on Oct. 31, 1961.
He married Mary Jo Britt on Nov. 13, 1972 at Wheeler, Texas.
Merkey worked at numerous jobs over the years, including positions at Nash Finch, Ralph’s Apco Truckstop and Café, Graves Manufacturing, Bar-S Foods and as a bus driver for the Clinton Public Schools.
He also was self-employed hauling hay for numerous farmers and ranchers over several counties.
Merkey was involved in a recycling business at the time he became ill.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren southeast of Cordell of which his father was a pastor for many years.
He enjoyed helping other people, spending time with friends and family and especially grand and great-grand children.
Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant great grandson, Dustin Leroy; three sisters, Pearl Mae, Rosyella Alice, Myrtle Mary; and seven brothers, Clifford Leonard, Samuel Kenneth, Alpha Ivan, Ramond, June Harold, Calvin Harvey and Isreal A.
Interment will be in the Brethren Cemetery southeast of Cordell under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home in Cordell.
Survivors include his wife, mary Jo Merkey of Clinton; two sisters, Opal Floyd of Newalla, Vinita Kasper and her husband, John, of Glendale, Ariz., Ethelk Tarnstrom of Clearwater, Kans.; three sons, Roy Tindell and his wife, Rosa, of Hedielburg, Miss., Billie Merkey and his wife, Elaine, of Sheriden, Wyo., David Merkey Sr. of Clinton; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Black rites Sunday at 1:17 pm
Reared and educated at Seiling, he graduated from Seiling High School in 1982.
In high school he participated in football, basketball and track. He was a sports enthusiast and a University of Oklahoma Sooners fan.
He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, repelling and SCUBA diving.
Married to Theresa Thomas in 1982 at the Seiling Assembly of God Church where he was baptized, they had four children, Victoria Kay, James Avery, Megan Nicole and Randi Dawn.
He began working for Phillips Petroleum at Seiling and later moved his family to Healdton where he worked at the Fox plant.
They moved to Tulsa where he attended the Tulsa Aeronautical School and worked for Dresser-Rand and American Airlines as an airline mechanic.
Later, he returned to Seiling where he met Leilani Jackson-Shafer. They made their home in Seiling and had one son, Seth Matthew.
At the time of his death, Black was working for Unit Drilling in the oilfields.
Interment will follow in the Brumfield Cemetery under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home at Seiling.
Survivors include his mother, Rita Black of Seiling; three daughters, Victoria Cale and her husband, Patrick, of Saguache, Colo., Megan and Randi Black, both of Tulsa; two sons, James Black of Tulsa, Seth Black of Seiling; a granddaughter, Hailee Cale; and a sister, Sandra Hinshaw and her husband, Dale, of Seiling.
Preceding him in death were an infant brother, Steven Ray; and his grandparents, Dana and May Black.
Shafer rites held Saturday at 1:16 pm
She was born on Oct. 30, 1958 at Thomas, the daughter of Max and Maxine (Bateman) Jackson.
Reared on the family farm near Oakwood, she attended school at Fay and Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 1976.
She furthered her education by attending a barber college in Oklahoma City.
Leilani married Arlie Clinesmith in 1982 and they had one daughter, Hillary.
She later married Stan Shafer and they had two children, Samantha and Nathan. On June 9, 1999 she gave birth to a baby boy, Seth Matthew.
Shafer worked at the Hollytex Mill in Watonga and had worked as a clerk at the fuel stop since August of 2004.
She had attended the Oakwood Assembly of God Church.
Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Hillary Clinesmith of Stillwater and Samantha Shafer of County Line; two sons, Nathan Shafer of County Line and Seth Black of Seiling; her father, Max Jackson of Oakwood; a sister, Kathy Gandara and her husband, Louis, of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Max Neil Jackson and his wife, Sandy, of Canton, Steve Jackson and his wife, Marilyn, of Oakwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Her mother preceded her in death in 1997.
A memorial fund has been established for the family and donations may be sent to the Redinger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663.

Jelinek rites set Saturday at 3:02 pm
Funeral services for Edward Charles “Roady” Jelinek “The King,” age 68 of rural Arapaho, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Church of God at Clinton with Brother Roy Dobbs officiating.
Funeral services for rancher Marvin E. Allen, age 83 of Camargo, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the First Christian Church at Camargo.
Allen died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Clinton.
Interment will follow the services in the Camargo Cemetery under the direction of the Shaw Funeral Home of Vici.
Services set for Jennings at 1:27 pm
Funeral services for Billie J. Jennings, age 70 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church at Arapaho with Rev. Loyd Hall officiating.
Funeral services for Glenda M. Owens, age 38 of Snyder, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bethany Baptist Church of Clinton with Rev. Billy Mucker officiating.
Owens died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at the Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder. She was born on June 10, 1966 in Clinton, the daughter of I.G. and Gerldine (Olden) Brothers.

Funeral services for Jerry N. Morris, age 53 and a former Arapaho resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with chaplain Dan Day officiating.
Funeral services for Novice Jewell Kirschner, age 88, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton with Rev. Larry Holder officiating.
The family announced that there will be a time of remembering and sharing from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the church parlor.
Funeral services for Terry Kenneth Fletcher, age 45 of Elk City, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Clinton with Rev. Max Malone and Rev. Delfred Whitecrow officiating.
A traditional Indian all-night wake service will be held Wednesday at the Indian Pentecostal Mission at 18th and Hayes in Clinton.
Merkey rites Tuesday in Cordell at 1:17 pm
Funeral services for Albert R. Merkey, age 73 and a lifetime Clinton resident, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Cordell Mennonite Brethren Church with Kevin Creed and Ernie Franklin officiating.
Funeral services for Clinton native James Darrell “Jimmy” Black, age 40 of Seiling, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Seiling Assembly of God Church with Bob Thomas and pastor Larry Hutcheson officiating.
Black died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid. He was born on March 27, 1964 at Clinton, the son of Rita Jane Black.
Funeral services for former Clinton resident Leilani Jean Shafer, age 46 of Oakwood, were held Saturday afternoon at the Oakwood School Auditorium with pastor Clyde Irving officiating.
Shafer died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the Seiling Municipal Hospital where she was taken following a shooting incident at the Domino’s Fuel Stop in Seiling where she was working as a clerk as reported in the Daily News Friday.
