He graduated from Comanche High School and attended the former Cameron College in Lawton before going on to the former Oklahoma A&M University where he graduated with a degree in soil science.
Soon after graduation he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
After the war, he worked for the Soil Conservation Service. This included a 13-year stint in Clinton where he was the area soil conservationist.
While in Clinton his wife, Irene, taught home economics at Clinton High School.
In 1975 he retired after 35 years of service, moving to Ninnekah where he began farming and ranching fulltime. He was a member of the Ninnekah First Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were a daughter, Kola Clements Fortune; a son, Buddy Clements; and a sister, Glynna Dunn.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Comanche under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of the home; a son, Dan Clements and his wife, Peggy, of Coalgate; a sister, Juhree Hilinski of Anchorage, Ky.; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Jack Smith’s rites Monday at 10:58 am
Reared in Butler, Smith graduated from high school and attended Southwestern State for a year before embarking on a career as a rancher-farmer and businessman.
Along with raising cattle, Smith was a cattle appraiser and buyer, motel owner and auto dealer with extensive interests in real estate and oil and gas leasing.
He served on the board of the Butler Farmers Cooperative and on the Butler Board of Education.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a daughter, Brenda Lumpkin.
Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Survivors include his daughters, Marilyn Jenkins and her husband, Larry, of Enid, Kelli Strong and her husband, J.D., of Oklahoma City; a brother, Jimmy Smith and his wife, Loretta, of Clinton; grandchildren, Luke Lumpkin, Jennifer DeVaughn, Shelby Rogers, Edyn Strong; and a great grandchild, Grace Elizabeth Lumpkin.

Redwine died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at the Southwestern Memorial Hospital in Weatherford. He was born on Sept. 29, 1946 in Clinton, the son of Ovell and Louise Young.
“Red” or “Raymond,” as he was known to his friends, graduated from Clinton High School in 1964 and continued his education at the Oklahoma City Banking School.
On May 25, 1966 he married Annie Beatrice Williams, and the couple made their home in Clinton.
Redwine worked for Kellwood and Graves Manufacturing in Clinton and later for 3M in Weatherford.
He also cooked at several restaurants, including Pop Hicks where he was the head cook.
He was a member of Masons, NAACP and Rural Housing Development.
Redwine founded the Clinton Association for Rights and Equality (C.A.R.E.), a tutoring and hot meal program for Eastside children, and he helped with Eastside Academy.
He also coordinated Martin Luther King holiday activities and had run for City Council and the Clinton Board of Education.
Failing health forced him to retire three years ago.
Preceding him in death were two daughters, an infant, Shelley, and Kasandra.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Annie, of the home; a daughter, Sheila Redwine of Clinton; a son, Ian Redwine and his wife, Gina, of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Verna Stewart of California, Marilyn Young of Oklahoma City; and five grandchildren, Kasandra, Brandy, Shawn, Ian II and Donte.

Lyle was the son of Urban “Short” Baker. He has several cousins and second cousins in the Butler area.
Ron and Sue Baker have returned from a visit with the family this past week in Colorado.

Redwine died this morning, Dec. 5, 2005, at the Southwestern Memorial Hospital in Weatherford.
Roger Clark rites slated at 1:55 pm
He began his school years at Putnam and also attended school at Leedey, Stafford, Arapaho and Clinton.
Entering the U.S. Army on Oct. 22, 1951, he served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on Oct. 26, 1954.
Married to Dorothy Mae Schafer on Oct. 15, 1957 at Pampa, Texas, the couple made their first home at Leedey where he joined his father in the Clark LP Gas business.
Later, the Clarks moved to Putnam where they opened the Roger Clark LP Gas Co., which he owned and operated until 1974.
They moved to Fouke, Ark. where they began a custom harvesting business that they operated for 12 years.
In 1986 they moved to Woodward where he was employed with Craighead Implement before moving to Taloga where he owned and operated an LP gas service until his retirement.
Clark was a member of the First Baptist Church in Taloga, Seiling VFW Post No. 9524 and Brown-Chapman American Legion Post No. 69.
Interment with military graveside rites will follow in the Fairview Cemetery near Putnam under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home in Seiling.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Clark of Taloga; two sons, Gary Dean Bailey of Nipomo, Calif., Roger Dean “Butch” Clark, Jr. and his wife, Kristie, of Mangum; two daughters, Coleta Kay Bratten and her husband, Keith, of Taloga, Diana Lynn Davis and her husband, Kevin, of Watonga; nine grandchildren, Maranda Ives, Levi Bratten, Kena Jones, Houston Davis, Jacob and Halie Clark, Bobby, Cory and Amanda Bailey; a great granddaughter, Autumn Jones; and a sister, Ozelma Simmons of Clinton.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were an infant sister; and an infant grandson, Kallyn Davis.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Clark’s honor be made to the Taloga Ambulance Service with the funeral home (address P.O. Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663-0236) serving as funds custodian.

Morgan, who had lived in far northwestern Custer County before moving to Broken Arrow, was the retired owner-operator of Ambassador Shoe Rebuilders.
He died on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Tulsa.
Albert Littleman funeral set at 2:08 pm
Littleman died early Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.
His grandfather was one of the 44 original Cheyenne chiefs and Albert’s Indian name, Walking Turtle, was in honor of his grandfather.
Reared in Thomas, he was a member of the 1962-63 Class C State Football Championship team.
He was employed at the Thomas Meat Locker Plant.
Albert served in the Army but had to take an early discharge when his father became ill.
He married Sandra K. Factor on Sept. 17, 1967 in Enid.
Following his honorable discharge, he went to work for Western Electric in Oklahoma City.
The family later settled in Thomas and Littleman went to work for Mobil Oil and Gas, retiring in 1995.
He coached Thomas little league baseball and served as chairman of the Cheyenne Arapaho Colony Powwow in 1997-98.
Littleman was a member of the S.W. Vietnam Vets, Cheyenne Chiefs, Thomas Service Club and firefighters, having served as an assistant fire chief.
Burial will conclude in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra, of the home; daughters, Maureen Littleman of Chickasha, Angela Littleman of Thomas; sons, Albert, Jr. of Chickasha, Kevin and Calvin, both of the home; sisters, Annie Collins of Thomas, Zola Crowder of California, Betty Hart of Thomas, Dara Franklin of El Reno; a brother, Merritt Youngman of Lawton; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral set for Edward E. Akin at 2:07 pm
Akin and his family came to Thomas by train when he was two years old.
He attended school at Thomas, graduating in 1926. Akin played football and was on the first state championship track team at Thomas in 1926, holding records in the 100, 220 and 440 yard runs.
He attended then Southwestern State College and was on the track team in 1927 and 1928.
After his marriage to Bernice Carney on March 22, 1930 they made their home east of Thomas.
Akin worked for McNeill Grain for seven years and farmed until 1954 when they moved to Nebraska.
After working for several cooperatives there, he and his wife returned to Thomas in 1966.
He and Bud Potter invented a mule-powered ice cream maker, serving many people around the area including in Clinton and at the State Fair.
He taught Sunday school until the age of 96.
Burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Thomas.
Survivors include a daughter, Coleen Mannering of Thomas; four grandchildren, Bryan Mannering of Custer City, Dee Ann Moore of Watonga, Brenda Clinton of Clinton, Mark Mannering of Custer City; eight great grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and seven stepchildren.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents and wife, Bernice, were a granddaughter, Mary Cheryl Mannering; and previous wives, Zulema (Ottinger), Alma (Deck) and Vera (Eyster).

Schmidt died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at the Cordell Christian Home. He was born Nov. 3, 1916, at Cordell, the son of Jacob R. and Justina (Siemens) Schmidt.
A lifelong resident of Cordell, Schmidt was a member of the Bible Mennonite Brethren Church. He was a farmer and worked as a carpenter for the Billie Young Construction Co. in Cordell.
He married Mary H. Hoock on Oct. 2, 1938, at Corn.
Preceding him in death, along with his wife in 2001, were a son, Leroy J. Schmidt in 1981; a great granddaughter, Jamie Lee Schmidt, in 2004; two brothers, Albert and Irving Schmidt; and a sister, Neva Sawatzky.
Interment under the direction of the McClure Funeral Home of Cordell will follow in the Lawnview Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Gary and his wife, Jean, of Midlothian, Texas, Dale and his wife, Vaughna, of Aline; six grandchildren, Randall Schmidt, Deana Brown, Russell Schmidt, Kim Snider, Joreta Hammer, and Tonnie Burnett; and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services for former Clinton resident Alvin M. “Buck” Clements, age 87 of Ninnekah, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Ninnekah First Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Day officiating.
Clements died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, in Oklahoma City. He was born on Jan. 10, 1918 in Corum, the son of Thad Marion and Virginia Jewell Gray Clements.
Funeral services for Jack E. Smith, age 73 of Butler, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home on West Modelle Avenue in Clinton with Rev. Dan Fisher officiating.
Smith died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at the Spanish Cove Retirement Center in Yukon. He was born on June 27, 1932 in Butler, the son of Lee J. and Callie Elizabeth (Hairrill) Smith.

Funeral services for longtime Clinton civic leader Thomas Edward Redwine, age 59, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bethany Baptist Church in Clinton with Rev. Tyrone Lewis, Brother Carl McElroy and Rev. Bobby Crawford officiating.

Funeral services for Roger Dean Clark, Sr., age 72 and a Clinton Veterans Center resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Taloga with pastor Darrell Bratten officiating.
Clark died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at the Veterans Center in Clinton. He was born on Oct. 17, 1933 at Arkadelphia, Ark., the son of Sidney Chestley and Viola Mae (Smith) Clark.
