After graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Army Reserves in Clinton and continued his education at the former Southwestern State College in Weatherford.
He owned and operated the Sonic Drive In for several years.
Upon going on active duty with the military, he sold his home and business and moved the family to St. Louis, Mo., embarking on a 32-year military career that took him all over the world, including Missouri, Colorado, Massachusetts, Georgia and to such foreign posts as Germany and four tours to Vietnam.
After retiring, he moved to Jackson, Miss. to teach Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in high school.
After three years he moved to Hazlehurst where he retired again after 12 years.
A memorial service was held recently for Poor. A final memorial service is planned in June at Arlington Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his wife, Anita; a daughter, Renee and her family of Wilton, Calif.; two sons, Chris and his family of Pearl, Miss., Brad and his family of the home; a stepbrother, Vernon Drake and his family of New York; and his mother-in-law, Lillie Butcher, also of Hazlehurst, Miss.

Hayes died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in the Hester Care Center. She was born on Sept. 12, 1913 in Pretty Prairie, Kan., the daughter of Peter G. and Elizabeth Kaufman Stucky.
A graduate of Castleton High School and Hutchinson Junior College, she had lived in Clinton for 50 years before moving to Hutchinson in 2002.
She was a trust officer for the former First National Bank & Trust in Clinton and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton.
Active in the Republican Party, she was a 1964 delegate to the Republican National Convention in San Francisco, Calif. She also was active in numerous civic organizations in Clinton.
She married Ernest James Hayes at Wichita, Kan. on July 24, 1935, and he preceded her in death on March 19, 1966.
Friends may call at the Elliott Mortuary at 1219 N. Main in Hutchinson, Kan. from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanine Zenge and her husband, Michael, of Albuquerque, N.M., Sherry Hayes of Hutchinson, Kan.; a sister, Ruth Galle of Moundridge, Kan.; two grandchildren, Peter Zenge and his wife, Jeanne, of Phoenix, Ariz., Garth Holloway of San Diego, Calif.; and a great grandson, Colin Zenge of Phoenix, Ariz.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were two brothers, Harold and Victor E. Stucky.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Hayes’ honor be made to the Hospice of Reno County, Kan. or the Meals on Wheels program in Clinton.
Timberlake death listed at 2:21 pm
Married to James O. “Jim” Timberlake in 1959, she lived in Louisiana, Illinois and Montana before moving to Oklahoma City where she lived many years, working at Local Federal Savings and Loan, Continental Federal, Homer Miller Company, American Bank Systems and Charter National Bank.
She lived in Clinton for several years and worked for the Clinton Daily News and Smith Oil Company.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her former husband.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Timberlake of Tulsa; grandsons, James and William; a brother Tal Neill and his wife, Marj, of Pocatello, Idaho; and nephews Adam Neill of Las Alamos, N.M. and Michael Neill of Phoenix, Ariz.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Timberlake’s honor may be made to Custer County Friends for Life Society animal sanctuary project.
Funeral set for Peoples at 2:21 pm
Reared in the Custer City and Thomas area, she graduated from Thomas High School in 1971.
After graduation she attended Devry Business School in Oklahoma City for two years.
On Aug. 19, 1982 she married Oklahoma Highway Patrol 2 Lt. Bruce Peoples.
They made their home in Thomas until 2002 when they moved north of Weatherford.
While living in the Thomas area she worked at the Thomas Medical Clinic for 15 years.
Later she worked for Dr. Kim Arganbright’s office for 15 years as a medical receptionist and also as a Mary Kay consultant.
Burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery at Thomas under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce, of the home; her mother, Helen Ballew of Corn; sons, Dustin Rose and Justin Rose, both of Oklahoma City; and daughters, Brooke Werkoven and Paige Peoples, both of Puyallup, Wash.
Preceding her in death were her father; two brothers, C.L. Ballew and Harold Ballew; and a grandson, Harrison Peoples.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in her honor be made to the First Christian Church of Thomas.

Brittain died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, in the Woodward Regional Hospital.
Kail William Brittain was born July 14, 1927 at the family home near Sharon, the son of Clinton Elza and Blanche (Huff) Brittain.
He attended school through the eighth grade at the Harmony country school.
Brittain married Lenora Arlene Routh on Feb. 24, 1950 at the First Baptist Church in Woodward. The Brittains moved to the “Brittain homeplace” in 1958 where they were engaged in farming and ranching.
He also worked as a contractor/carpenter, and for several years he worked for Whitcomb Lumber of Woodward.
Burial will follow in the Moscow Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.
Survivors include his children, Marceda Gayl Nelson and husband, Roger, of Meriden, Kan., Kevin Kail Brittain and his wife, Doris, of Clinton; his grandchildren, Clinton Buck Hutchens and Talon Josh Hutchens of Manhattan, Kan., Brannon Lee Brittain and his fiancee, Lisa Reuter of Tulsa, Dr. Bradley Kail Brittain and his wife, Whitney of Chandler, Ariz., Brett Wayne Brittain of Clinton, and Brian Lynn Brittain of Creede, Colo.; step-grandchildren, Dr. Tammie Lynn Nelson of Wichita, Kan., Christine Kimberly Nelson Stadnyk and husband, Dr. Matthew Stadnyk of St. Louis, Ill.; four step great grandchildren; his sisters, Eula Phillips and her husband, Charles, of Mutual, Ruth Clem and her husband, Lionel, of Sharon, Avis Duncan of Woodward, Irma Woods and her husband, Ellis, of Gage; one brother Gene Brittain and his wife, Caroldene, of Gatesville, Texas; sisters-in-law, Hazel Brittain of Arthur, Ill., Kathryn “Pat” Brittain Salisbury of Woodward; and a friend, Norma Ward of Woodward.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene, who died on April 13, 2003; three brothers, Dale, Neil and Lyle; and one sister, Nina Gillham.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Brittain’s honor may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Cancer Research with the funeral home as custodian.

Services set for Roberts at 1:33 pm
Reared in Clinton and Oklahoma City, Roberts graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1955.
He met and married Jerrye Lasiter on March 13, 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1962 as a helicopter mechanic.
After the Army he worked for Halliburton’s in Farmington, N.M. before serving a second tour of duty in the Army during the Berlin Crisis.
Returning to Oklahoma, he went to work as an airplane mechanic at Expressway Air Park, later managing a TG&Y Auto Center.
In 1983 he moved to Custer City. He owned Sam and Joe’s Auto in Thomas before later working for Testco Oil Field Service as a dispatcher.
Burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home there.
Survivors include his wife, Jerrye, of Custer City; two daughters, Donna Miller of Oklahoma City, Samantha Altland and her husband, Dayton, of Weatherford; two grandchildren, Michael Miller, Dakota Altland; and a sister, Jo Ella Dobbins of Thomas.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a sister, Maxine.
The family suggests that memorial contributions in Roberts’ honor be made to the Thomas Nursing Center.
‘Cub’ Andrews rites Thursday at 1:32 pm
Growing up in Western Oklahoma, he attended Cheyenne High School until 1962 and joined the Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge he returned to Oklahoma and married Connie Sue Mott.
He worked as a custodian at Cheyenne High School and later at a Baptist church in Tulsa.
He also worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Andrews ended up teaming with a friend, J.D. Spitzer, to sell Christmas trees in the winter and fireworks in the summer.
He was an active member of his church.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were two brothers, Emery and J.E. Andrews; and two sisters, Jo Derryberry and Kizzie Marlin.
Burial will conclude in the Strong City Cemetery under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Survivors include five sons, Eddie and his wife, Angela, Freddie and his wife, Heather, and Richard, all of Tulsa, Jessie and his wife, Katherine, of Foss, Jerry and his wife, JoAnn, of Cheyenne; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, May Parks of Elk City, Dammie Morris and her husband, Emmett, of Cheyenne, Faye Jantzen and her husband, Ed, of Lawton; two brothers, Fred of Lawton, Henry and his wife, Della Mae, of Cheyenne; and a friend, J.D. Spitzer of Kellyville.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions in Andrews’ honor be given to the funeral home to defray the funeral costs.
Ancil Moore services set at 11:00 am
He came to Custer County with his parents at the age of five and attended grade school at Chapel Hill and Parkersburg before graduating from Clinton High School.
On Dec. 2, 1942 he married Beatrice Cruson. He was drafted into the U.S. Army two weeks later.
Moore served in the Search Light Battalion during World War II.
After his honorable discharge he returned to Clinton and went to work at Acme Brick, retiring from the plant in 1985 after 41 years there.
He worked at the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton for the next 15 years, retiring again in 2000.
Moore was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were a brother, Kenneth; and a granddaughter, Julie Siess.
Burial will conclude in the Parkersburg Cemetery southwest of Clinton under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Beatrice, of the home; a son, George Moore and his wife, Judy, of Butler; four daughters, Joleen Palmer of Kansas, Coleen Laymon of San Antonio, Texas, Marsha Taylor and her husband, Ronnie, of Clinton, Sue Siess and her husband, Larry, of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a sister, Marge Brown of Sacramento, Calif.
Ed DeLong funeral set at 10:58 am
Upon graduation from Rocky High School he joined the U.S. Army in July of 1944, serving in the Asia Pacific Theater where he was part of the first occupation forces in Japan, earning the rank of sergeant first class.
Returning to the Cordell area, he married Billoye Joyce Lowber on Sept. 18, 1947.
He lived and farmed in the Cordell area while working for R.D. King Allis Chalmers, Jack Roan Chevrolet and Little Oldsmobile Cadillac.
In 1966 he purchased full interest in the automobile dealership in Clinton and operated Ed DeLong Pontiac Buick GMC until January of 2000 when he sold the business.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Billoye; and a sister, Mary Elaine Fite.
Interment under the direction of the McClure Funeral Home in Cordell, will follow in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell.
Survivors include his wife, Modean Webb DeLong of Clinton, whom he married on Feb. 14, 2004; two children, Robert DeLong and his wife, Linda, of Moore, JaLane DeLong Dunbar and her husband, Rod, of Yukon; a stepson, Phil Webb of California; a stepdaughter, Linda Dobbins of Thomas; seven grandchildren, Kyle Dunbar and Kent Dunbar of Yukon, Nathan DeLong of Edmond, Lori Linstead of Moore, Shawn Watkins of Poquoson, Va., Amber Nitzel of Calumet, Crystal Dobbins of Thomas; and four great grandchildren.

Word has been received of the death of former Clinton resident and businessman Col. James L. Poor, Jr. late Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2005, at a hospital in Hazlehurst, Miss.
Poor was born and reared in western Oklahoma.
Florence Hayes dies at 2:22 pm
Graveside services for longtime Clinton civic leader and businesswoman Florence M. Stucky Hayes, age 92 of Hutchinson, Kan., will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Lone Star Cemetery with Rev. Sarah Davis Blodgett officiating.
A memorial service for Clinton native Virginia Elizabeth Neill “Ginny” Timberlake, age 68, will be scheduled at a later date. Timberlake died Monday, January 9, 2006, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was born in Clinton on Feb. 1, 1937, the daughter of DeWitt Talmadge and Virginia Morriss Neill.
She attended the Clinton schools through high school, graduating in 1955. Upon graduation, she studied at Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) before graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 1959 with a BA in journalism. While in college she became a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Funeral services for Clinton native Janice Elaine Peoples, age 53 of Weatherford, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church at Weatherford with Richard Pitt officiating.
Peoples died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, in Oklahoma City after a long battle with cancer. She was born on Jan. 2, 1953 in Clinton, the daughter of Fred and Helen (Friesen) Ballew.

Funeral services for Kail William Brittain, age 78 of Sharon, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Christian Church of Mutual with the Rev. Clyde Irving officiating.
Timberlake dies at 1:33 pm
The Daily News has learned of the death of former Clinton resident Ginny (Neill) Timberlake.
She died in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funeral services for Clinton native Sammy C. Roberts, age 69 of Thomas, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Christian Church at Thomas with Rev. Richard Pitt officiating.
Roberts died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in Thomas. He was born on Oct. 24, 1936 in Clinton, the son of Samuel and Bertie (Tinsley) Roberts.
Funeral services for Earl Leon “Cub” Andrews, age 62 of Elk City, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church at Cheyenne.
Andrews died Monday night, Jan. 9, 2006, in the Elk City Nursing Home. He was born on March 18, 1943 in Elk City, the son of Mural Fred and Edith (Archer) Andrews.
Funeral services for Ancil F. Moore, age 86 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Clinton with Rev. Dale Nease and minister Doyle Kinney officiating.
Ancil Frank Moore died early Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on Jan. 7, 1920 in Savannah, Tenn., the son of Jesse F. and Adeline “Nannie” (Willoughby) Moore.
Funeral services for retired longtime Clinton businessman William Edward (Ed) DeLong, age 80, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church at Cordell with Rev. Dale Durnell officiating.
DeLong died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on Nov. 27, 1925 on the family farm south of Cordell. He spent most of his life in Custer and Washita Counties.
