Wendell Stockton rites Monday at 12:36 pm
Funeral services for Wendell Leroy Stockton, age 87 and a former Clinton businessman and farmer, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Clinton with Rev. Shane Hall and Robin Palesano officiating.

Stockton died early Saturday, April 22, 2006, in the Jim Thorpe wing of Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born on June 20, 1918 in Dewey County, the son of John and Mabel (Smith) Stockton.

He moved west of Clinton with his parents when he was three years old and attended the Union Country School before graduating from Clinton High School in 1936.

Stockton and Bettye Patterson eloped on her prom night, May 10, 1940, at Hobart.

The couple made their home 2˝ miles west of Clinton, moving into Clinton in 1949. But Stockton continued to farm until he was 82 and operated a Gulf service station until 1985.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Stockton was a junior master farmer while in high school and later was an Honorary FFA Member. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a brother, Charles Stockton.

Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Visitation was scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bette Stockton of the home; a son, Bill Stockton and his wife, Carol, of Fairview; a daughter, Sherry England and her husband, Larry, of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Rick Stockton of Los Angeles, Calif., Sonya Stockton of Edmond, Karen Ashcraft of Oklahoma City, Alen Pierce and Nance Niles, both of Fairview; great grandchildren, Wendell Reed Stockton, Grace Elizabeth Stockton, Tracy Ashcraft, Blake Ashcraft, Sierra Peirce, Bethany Niles, Grant Niles; a sister-in-law, Joyce Stockton of Clinton; and a nephew, Roger Stockton of Nebraska.

The family has suggested that those wishing to make memorial contributions in honor of Stockton may do so to the preschool fund of the First Baptist Church.

Prough services set at 3:06 pm
Funeral services for Lillian Lorena Prough, 61, of Cordell will be held Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Cordell with Rev. Doyle Roake officiating.

Lorena, affectionately called 'Poodle' by her family, was born August 8, 1944 in Dover, Tennessee to Eugene and Leona Mae (Hicks) Smith and died Thursday, April 20, 2006.

She was united in marriage to Gary Prough on April 23, 1988 in Wheeler, Texas. She worked as a receptionist at Tradewinds Motel in Clinton, Oklahoma for 15 years. Lorena was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover, Tennessee. She enjoyed garage sales, gardening and reading, especially the Bible. She loved spending time with her family. She loved to sing and was a favorite of many because of her unique voice. She loved to sing the “old” country and bluegrass songs. She was also an attentive newsperson.

Lorena is survived by her loving husband, Gary Prough of the home; 1 son, Jerry Don McConnell of Norman; two daughters, Marty Cossey of Washington, Oklahoma and

Shannon Patton of Washington, Oklahoma; 1 sister, Ora Jerlene Kilpatrick of Cordell, 1 brother, Gene Smith of Clarksville, Tennessee; 2 nephews, Tom Hutchinson of Cordell; Bill Hutchinson of Albequerque, New Mexico; 1 niece, Lynne Maes of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 7 grandchildren, Amber Griffin, Heather Griffin, Jerry McConnell, III, Ashley McConnell, Brian McConnell, Jennifer McConnell, and Taylor Owens.

Lorena was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Raymond Smith.

Burial will be in the Hobart Rose Cemetery in Hobart under the direction of Hackney-Gish Funeral Home of Hobart.

Johnson rites to be Monday at 1:19 pm
Funeral services for Amanda Johnson, age 57 of Pasadena, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Pentecostal Church at Hammon. Services also are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway in Pasadena.

Johnson died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, after a battle with cancer. She was born on Sept. 17, 1947 in New Albany, Ind., the daughter of Avery and Cleo Taylor.

Johnson worked for many years as a beautician and most recently for an accounting firm.

Preceding her in death was her mother, Cleo Stewart Taylor.

Interment will follow at the Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon under the direction of Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include her husband of 16 years, James Johnson; her children and step children, Lerey Wright and his wife, Bobbi, Cathy Roman Nose and her husband. Jerry, Jamie Mick and her husband, Bobby, and Kyle Durin; her father, Avery Taylor; two brothers, Doug Trobough and Rick Trobough; and five grandchildren, Jerry Lee, Randall Jerel, Shally and Kyley;

Melvin Wilson rites Saturday at 1:19 pm
Funeral services for Melvin Wilson, age 80 of Colby, Kan., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home in Colby.
Wilson, brother of R.G. Wilson of Clinton and a retired farmer, died following a lengthy illness. He had two sons and four daughters.

Archie Stephens rites scheduled at 1:18 pm
Graveside services for Archie Stephens, Jr., age 76 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Rose Cemetery at Hobart.
Stephens died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Clinton Veterans Center. He was born on Nov. 29, 1929 in Clinton, the son of Nola Mae Daniels and Archie Stephens.

He had worked as a trucker, machinist and cook and had served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Stephens had been a member of the Colony Baptist Church since 1968 and was preceded in death by one brother, Gene.

Arrangements are under the direction of the People’s Cooperative Funeral Home in Lone Wolf.

Survivors include his children, Mike Stephens and his wife, Debbie, of Mangum, Chris Stephens and his wife, Elizabeth, of Copperopolis, Calif., Danny Stephens and his wife, Dawn, of Columbus, Miss., Richard Stephens of Denver, Colo., Patrick Stephens of Oklahoma City; brothers, Kenny Stephens of Clinton, Charles Stephens of Duncan; and 10 grandchildren.

Bruce Price services set at 1:17 pm
Funeral services for Bruce Wayne Price, age 38 of Elk City, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Elk City with Rev. Danny Ringer officiating.
Interment will follow in the Stafford Cemetery west of Clinton.

Price died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Elk City. He was born on Oct. 29, 1968 in Clinton, the son of C.A. Price and Linda (Siess) Turner

Reared in the Foss area, he attended the Canute Schools.

He met Renae Schmidt in 1988, and they had been together ever since. He worked for the City of Elk City.

Survivors include his wife, Renae, of the Elk City home; three sons, Kerney, Bruce and Steven, all of Elk City; a daughter, Dallas Parr; his father, C.A. Price and his wife, Rhonda, of Thomas; his mother, Linda Turner of Burns Flat; a brother, Joseph Price of Burns Flat; and a sister, Susan Laye and her husband, Cecil, of Burns Flat.

Dwayene Wilson rites held at 1:17 pm
Funeral services for Dwayne R. Wilson, age 77 of Stillwater, were held Wednesday morning at the Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home in Stillwater with Church of Christ elder Kent Houck officiating.
Graveside services and burial were at the Sentinel Cemetery in Sentinel with Pastor James Cudd officiating.

Wilson died in his home on Monday, June 19, 2006. He was born at home on the family farm in Sentinel on Dec. 16, 1928, the son of Carl and Jennie Mae (Edmonds) Wilson.

He married Mary Louise Reiter on Nov. 30, 1952 in Sentinel.

Wilson attended school in Port and Sentinel. After graduating from Sentinel High School, he served with the 45th Infantry in the Korean War.

He and Mary lived in Stillwater for a few years while he attended Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University).

The family lived in Memphis, Tenn. and Arlington, Texas before returning to Stillwater in 1963. He graduated from OSU in 1965 with a business degree and became the administrative assistant in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the university.

He was a licensed real estate agent, broker and GRI and taught numerous real estate agent and broker courses for more than 30 years in vocational-technical schools in Stillwater, Edmond and Oklahoma City.

During that time, he assisted in the development of the Oklahoma real estate law and curriculum.

He owned Stillwater Realty Unlimited and operated it with his son-in-law until his retirement.

He was the president of the Stillwater Board of Realtors and had been a member of the Stillwater Apartment Association, Stillwater Noon Lions, Kiwanis, Elks, Masons, Republican Party and Church of Christ.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary; two sons, Mark Wilson and Scott Wilson of Stillwater; a granddaughter, Allie Perez of Tulsa; a daughter, Cheryl Hallman and her husband, Kenny, of Stillwater; two grandsons, Jacob Hallman and Kelin Hallman of Stillwater; two brothers, Richard Wilson of Sentinel, Mac Wilson and his wife, Martha, of Irving, Texas; a sister, Carolyn Smith and her husband, Joe, of Clinton; and two great granddaughters

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in Wilson’s honor to the Judith Karman Hospice.

Poor rites held at 5:36 pm
Clinton native Col. James L. Poor Jr. was interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington Va. on June 15.

At the service were his wife, Anita, and their three children, Renee, Chris and his wife and Brad and his wife. Also present were six of his grandchildren and a stepbrother, Vernon Drake, and his wife, Margaret, and their grandson, Travis.

The service with full military honors opened with six gray horses pulling the flag draped caisson. A black riderless horse with boots reversed followed. There was a full Army band, and after the service a 21-gun salute was fired

Jim was a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, having received the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts, among other medals and honors.

Poor joined the Army after he graduated from Clinton High School. He finally retired in 1990. From there he moved to Mississippi and taught ROTC in a small rural school for 13 years.

A memorial service was conducted at the school shortly after his death on Dec. 25, 2005. He was born in Clinton and has extended family here.

Klopfenstein rites set at 5:36 pm
Funeral services for Bessie Lee Klopfenstein, age 79 of Crescent, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Crescent with Rev. Bryan Haynes officiating.
Klopfenstein died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City following a brief illness. She was born on Sept. 26, 1926, the daughter of Cloyd and Velma Wilson.

She grew up on a farm northwest of Crescent and attended school at Crescent, graduating in 1944.

She worked at the Bank of Crescent, retiring in 1986 as vice president.

After her marriage to Floyd Klopfenstein on Oct. 7, 1950, the couple lived in Crescent until 1971 when her husband was transferred to Chickasha.

The family returned to Crescent in 1973, and she had remained there since that time.

A member of the First Baptist Church in Crescent, she served as a Sunday school teacher and in WMU. She also was active in the Alpha Study Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.

Burial will follow at the Crescent Cemetery under the direction of the Abernathy-Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Hodges and her husband, David, of Clinton; a son, Steve Klopfenstein and his wife, Vickie, of Crescent; a brother, Jim Wilson and his wife, Sue, of Crescent; four grandchildren, Carolyn Hodges of Weatherford, Kyla Hodges of Clinton, Brad Klopfenstein of Crescent and Katie Klopfenstein of Crescent.

Schmidt services set at 5:34 pm
Funeral services for Russell “Rusty” Leon Schmidt, age 45 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Clinton with Doug Lewis and Robin Palesano officiating.
Born on July 7, 1960 in Cordell, the son of Dale and Letha Schmidt, Rusty died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

He spent most of his growing-up years in Dacoma, attending and graduating from Carmen-Dacoma High School in 1978.

He married his high school sweetheart, Tammie Oakley, on May 25, 1979 in Dacoma.

They made their first home in Yewed where he did farming work for Gene DeWitt while attending Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva.

After graduating from NWOSU in 1982 with a degree in agribusiness, the family moved to Clinton where he began working for the Clinton Farmers Cooperative.

He became manager of the Putnam Co-op from 1986 to 1987 and later returned to the Clinton Co-op where he continued to work until his health forced him to quit.

Preceding him in death were one daughter, Jamie Schmidt; and a stepbrother, Alan McCray.

Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Tammie, of the home; one daughter, Lacey Taapken and her husband, Rick, of Shattuck; a grandson, Zackary Taapken; his parents, Bob and Letha McCray of Carmen and Dale and Vaughna Schmidt of Aline; two sisters, Kim Snider of Norman and Jo Hammer and husband, Hoby, of Fairview; a stepbrother, Kevin McCray and his wife, Mary, of Moore; and a maternal grandmother, Edna Duerksen of Corn.

Leona Byford servies set at 2:33 pm
Funeral services for Leona Mae Byford, age 89 of Yukon, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bethel Baptist Church with graveside services to be held at 2:30 p.m. at the New Herman Cemetery south of Leedey.

Byford died Monday, June 19, 2006, at her home. She was born on Nov. 30, 1916 in Moorewood, the daughter of Mac and Sallie (Blaylock) Mullins.

On Sept. 18, 1938 at Cordell she was married to William Granville Byford. Leona was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Services are under the direction of Smith & Turner Mortuary in Yukon.

Survivors include a son, Bill Byford and his wife, Betty, of Yukon; two grandchildren, Tracy Saha of Houston, Texas, Jeff Byford of Valdosta, Ga.; two sisters, Louise Tucker of Fairfield, Texas, Lavelle Allen of Amarillo, Texas; and a brother, Tim Mullins of Arapaho.

Preceding her in death were her husband and parents, four sisters and two brothers.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to the Hospice of Oklahoma County.
