Ona Harms funeral set at 8:12 am
Graveside services for Ona Maye Harms, age 84 and a lifelong resident of Cordell, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Lawnview Cemetery at Cordell with Rev. Don Rodgers officiating.

Harms died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at Cordell Memorial Hospital. She was born on Feb. 1, 1920 in Cordell, the daughter of Jim and Minnie (Leverton) Parman.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home in Cordell, which is planning a full obituary for release later.

Services set for Leija at 5:01 pm
Funeral services for Clinton native Angela Lira Leija, age 39 of Vernon, Texas, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel in Vernon with Rev. Richard Keeling and Roman Gamez officiating.

A wake will be held from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. today and Wednesday at the funeral home.

Leija died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born on Jan. 11, 1967 in Clinton, the daughter of Juan and Lila Candy Lira.

She lived most of her life in Vernon, Texas and had been a line worker for Wright Brand Foods for 18 years. Leija was a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes as well as the Word of Life Church.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Jennifer Lira.

Interment will follow at the Eastview Cemetery under the direction of the Sullivan Funeral Home.

Survivors include her parents of Cloud Chief; her fianceé, Nicklus Yzaguirre of Vernon, Texas; a son, John Michael Ty Leija of Vernon, Texas; a brother, Juan Lira, Jr. of Clinton; two sisters, Juanita Anaya and Margaret Lira Nava, both of Vernon, Texas; and three grandchildren, J.J. Lira Delgado, Anthony Rene Lira Delgado and Carlos Jose Delgado.

Services set Mowles at 5:01 pm
Funeral services for Ethel Mowles, age 87 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Westside Pentecostal Holiness Church in Clinton with Rev. Bobby Stewart and Rev. Lonnie Burns officiating.
Ethel Isabelle Mowles was born March 11, 1919, at Leedey, the daughter of Lawrence A. and Addie Lee (Espy) Cavasos. She died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital.

Mowles graduated from Leedey High School in 1939 and married Jewel Eaton in March of 1939. They had six children, and Jewel preceded her in death in 1951.

She married Joe S. Mowles in September of 1952. She lived in the Dewey County area most of her life with a short time in Missouri and California before moving to Clinton in 1985.

She was a member of the Westside Pentecostal Holiness Church of Clinton.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her two husbands; two sons, Jerry Don and Marvin Eaton; one son-in-law, Joe R. Mowles; 2 great grandsons; and 3 great-great grandsons.

Burial will conclude in the Centerpoint Cemetery near Aledo under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include her children, Erma Mowles and Lavona Eaton of Clinton, Adrain Eaton and his wife, Connie, of Clinton, Charles Eaton and his wife, Betty, of Hammon; a daughter-in-law, Denice Eaton of Clinton; three brothers, Elmer Cavasos of Rio Oso, Calif., Harvey (Bud) Cavasos of Custer City, Earl Cavasos of Hammon; three sisters, Nina Dean Webb of Wheatland, Calif., Verna Shelton of Custer City, Mary Griffin of Clinton; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.

Miller services set at 5:00 pm
Funeral services Miriam Miller, age 87 of Hydro, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church in Hydro with Rev. Darwin Hartman officiating.
Miller died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at the Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro. She was born on May 26, 1919, in Dodge City, Kan., the daughter of Ben and Lovina (Mullett) Thomas.

She moved to Custer County in 1928, settling north of Thomas and later southeast of Thomas where she attended rural schools. She helped her mother on the family farm.

On Dec. 21, 1939, Miriam married Willis E. “W.E.” Miller, and they made their home north of Weatherford.

She worked alongside her husband on their dairy farm and helped him in the fields until they retired from farming in 1974.

Her husband preceded her in death in January of 1994. She lived on the farm until the fall of 1999 when she moved to Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Survivors include one brother, Ira Thomas and his wife, Susie, of Goshen, Ind.; and three sisters, Katie Bontrager of Topeka, Ind., Amanda Stutzman and her husband, Levi, of Hydro and Lovina Stutzman and her husband, A.J., of Goshen, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Pete, Martin, Ben, and one in infancy; and a set of twin children.

Unger rites Thursday at 2:23 pm
Funeral services for Wilbur “Bill” Unger, age 86 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Mennonite Brethren Church at Corn with Rev. Tim Sandy and Rev. John Flaming officiating.

Unger died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on May 15, 1920 in Hillsboro, Kan., the son of Henry A. and Louise (Kroeker) Unger.

Reared at Corn, he graduated from Corn High School in 1937.

He owned and operated the Corn Café/Drug Store before he married Leona G. Rempel on June 4, 1939 in Corn.

He also farmed in the Corn area before he was drafted into the U.S. Army/Air Corps in 1943.

He served in World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Returned to Corn, they operated the Corn Cash Grocery Store for some time before he began a career with the U.S. Postal Service, serving as a rural mail carrier in Corn and Weatherford for more than 42 years.

He and his wife moved to Mission, Texas where they spent six months out of the year and summers in Fun Valley, Colo. They returned to Oklahoma to live in 1997.

He was a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Corn.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were a great grandson, Darren Ernst; three sisters, Melba Quiring, Hazel Engel, Viola Hendricks; and three brothers, Daniel Unger, H.A. Unger, Jr., Ervil Unger.

Burial will conclude in the Corn Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Leona, of the home; two daughters, Dian Kupper and her husband, Duane, of Tucson, Ariz., Pam Murray and her husband, Dan, of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren, De Ann Elliott of Clinton, Derek Kupper of Austin, Texas, J.D. Murry of Plano, Texas; and three great grandchildren, Max Kupper, Courtney Kupper, Race Elliott.

Latimer services today at 2:23 pm
Funeral services for Daisy K. Latimer, age 98 and a former Clinton resident, were held this afternoon in the chapel of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with Rev. Carol Waters officiating.
Daisy Kathryn (McKinney) Latimer, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Elk City Nursing Home. She was born on Feb. 26, 1908 at Purcell, the daughter of James Torrence McKinney and Nancy Caroline (Queen) McKinney.

Reared in the Purcell area, she married Byron Hamilton Latimer on Aug. 16, 1924 in Wynnewood.

They moved to Clinton in the late 1940’s, and she was employed first in a grocery store and later at Ada’s Tot Shop.

She moved to Oklahoma City and worked for Dillard’s Department Store for more than 24 years.

She had been a resident of the Elk City Nursing Home for the past several years.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star and had been on several bowling leagues in Clinton.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband and parents, were a son, Don Byron Latimer; five sisters; and three brothers.

Burial will conclude in the Arapaho Cemetery.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Jane Nidey of Elk City, Jay Latimer and Bobby Latimer, both of Weatherford; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Wanda Jeanne George of Clinton.

Reinschmiedt services set at 2:21 pm
Chapel services for Don Keith Reinschmiedt, age 54 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with minister Patrick Peters officiating.
Reinschmiedt died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at his Clinton home. He was born on Aug. 15, 1952 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Leon and Opal (Church) Reinschmiedt.

Reared in Clinton, he graduated from Clinton High School in 1970 and enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after high school.

Reinschmiedt concluded his military stint in the U.S. Army Reserves, being discharged in 1976.

He married Marsha Dalrymple on March 12, 1976 in Wheeler, Texas, and they made their home in Clinton.

Reinschmiedt had worked for Morrison Tire Shop, Elmer Smith Oil Co., Bill Boese Trucking, Carter Cook Trucking and for the past eight years with Circle S Paving.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Opal.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha, of the home; two sons, Paul Michael Reinschmiedt and his wife, Dana, of Clinton, Shaun Nico Reinschmiedt and Charla of Bessie; a daughter, Brandy, of Wichita, Kan.; his father, Leon Reinschmiedt and his wife, Shirley, of Canton; a sister; two grandchildren, Darrien Aubrey Reinschmiedt, Michael Dayvon Salazar, both of Clinton; and two great grandchildren from Wichita, Kan.

Powers services set at 4:54 pm
Funeral services for Toots Powers, age 77 of Cheyenne, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cheyenne Church of Christ with Chuck Milner officiating and Earl Reed assisting.

Powers died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Cheyenne. She was born on July 11, 1929 on the family farm near Crawford, the daughter of Maggie and John Lucas.

Growing up in Crawford, she graduated from Crawford High School in 1947 and married Delbert Powers at Canadian, Texas on Dec. 3, 1947.

Toots and Delbert lived in the Crawford, Reydon and Durham communities most of their lives.

In 1975 Delbert’s job took them to Custer City where they lived until 1982 after which they returned to Roger Mills County and retired.

In 1993, Toots was baptized at the Cheyenne Church of Christ.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, were a brother, Claude Lucas; and a sister, Lila Grace Trainham.

Burial will be at the Silent Home Cemetery under the direction of the Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne.

Survivors include her husband, Delbert, of the home; two sons, John Powers and his wife, Kay, of Reydon, Rick Powers and his wife, Susan, of Reydon; two daughters, Nelda Pennington and her husband, Don, of Reydon, Danna Kent and her husband, Monte, of Arapaho; 11 grandchildren, Darla Rogers, Perry Pennington, Wesley Powers, Janna Markham, Gayla Smith, Audrey Kinnaman, Paul Powers, L.D. Powers, Lynsi Kent, Taylor Kent, Conner Kent; 11 great grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Lucas of Sunray, Texas.

Wells rites set at 4:53 pm
Graveside services for Thelma D. Wells, age 87 of Taloga, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mound Cemetery in Taloga.
Wells, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Clinton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaw Funeral Home of Taloga.

Mattox services set at 3:40 pm
Funeral services for McDonald “Mac” Mattox, age 78 and a former Clinton resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First Christian Church at Putnam with Rev. Roger Gastineau officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mound Cemetery at Taloga.

Mattox died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, in the Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born on Nov. 27, 1927 in Fort Gibson, Okla., the son of Tony Hardy and Georgia Anna (McCrackin) Mattox.

Reared in Gore, he attended school there and joined the U.S. Army in 1946, serving in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1948.

He then moved to California where he worked for a cement plant for 15 years and then to Tennessee for a short time before coming to Clinton where he was employed at a farmers co-op and the Tradewinds Motel.

Mattox married Florence Owens in 1973, and they made their home in Texas where he was employed in the oilfield as a welder before retiring in 1989.

He attended the Methodist Church in Alvin, Texas.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, were a daughter, Shirley Maxwell; brothers, John, Earl and Mose Mattox; and sisters, Velma Higgins and Bess Thomas.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Florence (Owens) Mattox of the Alvin, Texas home; two daughters, Carolyn Harper of Lockford, Calif., Pamela Krok of Greenville, S.C.; a son, Jerry Mattox of Valley Springs, Calif.; a brother, Paul Mattox of Gore; a sister, Wenonia Reyes of Gore; four stepchildren, Billie June Byrd and her husband, Bob of Duson, La., Garry Don Owens and his wife, Roberta, of Putnam, Judy Kay Robertson and her husband, Alton, of Alvin, Texas, Larry Neil Owens and his wife, JoShana, of Alvin, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Steve Byrd, Danny Byrd, Kim Creduer, Klint Owens, Shana Shores, Nicole Church, Rhonda Polk, David Donaldson, Justin Owens, Dale Harper, Jr., Tamatha Harper, Dennis Maxwell, Jr., Miranda Maxwell, Sherrie Maxwell; 14 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Big Horse services set at 3:39 pm
Funeral services for Russell “Rusty” Big Horse, age 37 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Custer Avenue Baptist Church in Clinton with Rev. Gerald Panana.
Russell Dean Big Horse died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on Feb. 8, 1969 in Clinton, the son of Fred, Jr. and Bertha (Seger) Big Horse.

Reared in Clinton, he graduated from Clinton High School in 1987 where he played for the Red Tornadoes basketball team.

After attending the University of Oklahoma for two years he returned to Clinton and worked for Bar-S Foods and the chicken factory at Cordell.

Most recently, he was employed at the Lucky Star Casino in Clinton.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a sister, Mary Alice Big Horse.

There will not be a traditional wake service, but visitation will be held at the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in downtown Clinton from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow the service in the Clinton Indian Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Patti Seger of El Reno; a nephew, Cedric Big Horse of Oklahoma City; two aunts, Alice Seger of Clinton, Imogene Jones of Oklahoma City; and an uncle, Gary Big Horse of Clinton.
