Mowles services set at 1:33 pm
Funeral services for Carrie Lee Mowles, age 47 of Arapaho, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Westside Pentecostal Church in Clinton.

A homemaker, she died on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Linda Terry serivces set at 1:32 pm
A memorial service for Linda Smith-Terry, age 42 of Clinton, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Church of God in Clinton with Rev. Roy Dobbs officiating.
Linda Lee (Eastburn) Smith-Terry was born on Jan. 14, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of William and Jean Eastburn. She died unexpectedly in her home on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006.

Reared in Philadelphia, she graduated from high school there and came to Clinton in 1981 to live with her sister, Patty.

She worked for Deb Felch for several years and also had worked at the Grace Living Center.

She married Rick Terry on July 10, 1994 in Clinton, and they continued to reside here.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.

Survivors include her husband, Rick, and daughter, Tayler, both of the home; a stepdaughter, Shyla (Terry) Wilhite and her husband, Randall and a granddaughter, Hannah Beth Wilhite, all of Weatherford; a brother, Billy Eastburn of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a brother-in-law, John Knowlton of El Reno.

Bob Atha rites set at 1:32 pm
Funeral services for Bob Atha, age 64 of Weatherford, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Whinery-Savage Funeral Service Chapel in Elk City with Jay Farber officiating.
Atha died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Weatherford. He was born on Sept. 25, 1942 in Sayre, the son of Annie Belle and C.W. Atha.

A 1960 graduate of Cheyenne High School, he moved to Tulsa where he worked for Halstead Electric.

He married Lena Ann (McWhirt) at Tulsa on Feb. 6, 1970.

They moved to Weatherford in March of 1976 where he began working for 3M.

Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lena, of the homa; two daughters, Jeanie Brown of Tina, Mo., Jan Gregg of Little Elm, Texas; his parents, C.W. and Annie Belle Atha of Cheyenne; two brothers, Floyd Atha and his wife, Nancy, of Yukon, Fred Atha and his wife, Jeanette, of Clinton; and five grandchildren, Heather, Derek, Michael, J.C. and Jacob.

Funeral held for Spradlin at 12:24 pm
Funeral services for Douglas Arch Spradlin, age 89 of Dill City, were held Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Dill City with Rev. Ron Roskam officiating.

Spradlin died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at the Cordell Christian Home. He was born on Dec. 20, 1916 in Garland, Texas, the son of Arch G. and Ruth (Bradford) Spradlin.

Reared in the Dill City area, he graduated from high school there in 1934 and married Weona Bond on May 30, 1937.

They farmed in the Dill City area until her death in 1996.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dill City and the Farmers Cooperative.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents and wife, were three brothers, John Kermit and Frank Sperle; and a sister, Josephie Chestmore.

Burial was in the Canute Cemetery under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Alice Phillips of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Douglas A. Spradlin, Jr. of Hobbs, N.M., Joe Wayne Spradlin and his wife, Sharon, of Cordell; two sisters, Margaret Alexander and her husband, Jack, of Guymon and Allie Jean McClanahan of San Diego, Calif.

Vermillion rites held at 4:12 pm
Graveside services for Jackie (Brown) Vermillion, age 63 of Cordell, were held this afternoon at the Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell.

Vermillion died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at her home. She was born on June 8, 1943 in Columbus, Neb., the daughter of Dale and Carlene Alvis.

Moving to Cordell with her two sons in 1971, she worked several jobs before becoming a nurse’s aide at the Cordell Christian Home.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home in Cordell.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie Brown and his wife, Karen, and Stan Brown and his wife, Edie, all of Cordell; her father, Mac McGinnis of Melbourne, Ark.; two sisters, Poatti Price and her husband, Terry, of Bessie,, Judy Holcomb of Clinton; a brother, Bobby Alvis and his wife, Lori, of Midwest City; seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Kristen, Amy, Steven, Stacie, Madison, Taylor; and four great grandchildren, Katelynn, Kolby, Bryson, Kara with one more on the way.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Richard; and her husband, Charlie Vermillion.

Joe Kent's rites held at 4:12 pm
Memorial services for Joe Kent, age 70 of Sentinel, were held Wednesday afternoon in the Sentinel Cemetery.
Kent died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006. He was born on May 23, 1936 in Frederick, the son of Russell and Bernice Kent.

A 1953 graduate of Frederick High School, he played football for the Bombers.

In 1955 he married Linda Lea Wilcox, and they continued to live in Frederick where he worked as a butcher in a local grocery store.

From there he moved to Elk City where he worked for Miracle Laboratories.

They continued to live there until 1973 when they moved to Sentinel and he began his career in farming, raising wheat, cotton, alfalfa, cattle, sheep, goats, etc.

Later, after retiring, he raised pecan trees.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a brother, William “Bill” Kent.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home of Sentinel.

Survivors include daughters, Jolyna Abernathy and her husband, Randy, of Cordell, Gina Hurley and her husband, Mike, of Irvilne, Calif., Lisa Proffitt and her husband, Monty, of Cordell; a brother, Charlie Kent of Frederick; sisters, Mary Frances Miller of Glen Ellen, Calif., Virginia Sasser and her husband, Eldon, of Sequim, Wash.; grandchildren, Amanda Conway of Weatherford, Mason Proffitt of Weatherford, Carissa Williams of Edmond, Bobby Abernathy and Kent Abernathy of Cordell; and great grandchildren, Hunter Newton and Kennan Conway.

Evelyn Foth funeral held at 4:55 pm
Word was received this week of the death of Arapaho native Evelyn Waneta (Snider) Foth, age 81 of Long Beach, Calif., on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006.

Born on Dec. 26, 1924 in Arapaho, the daughter of Berna and Frieda (Roll) Snider, she attended Arapaho School and graduated from Arapaho High School, also attending then Southwestern State College.

She married Charles “Chuck” Foth and made her home in Long Beach, Calif.

Burial was on Oct. 17.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, R.C. Snider, Lloyd Snider and Orval Snider.

Survivors include three children, Carol and Steven, both of Long Beach, Calif., Karen of Colorado; four sisters, Doris Peterson of Long Beach, Calif., Maxine Utter of Newport, Wash., Eva Elliott and her husband, Bobby, of Clinton, Jeanette Worley and her husband, Ed, of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Gordon Snider of Fort Worth, Texas, Duane Snider and his wife, Maureen, of Clark Fork, Idaho; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Snider of Arapaho.

Jewel Zacharias rites set at 4:54 pm
Graveside services for Jewel Mae (Dodd) Zacharias, age 84 of Weatherford, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford with Jason Ewing officiating.
Zacharias died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford. She was born on March 21, 1922 in Gotebo.

At the age of six she and her mother moved to Weatherford where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1940.

On July 12, 1941 she married Jack Eldon “Zack” Zacharias, and they moved to California in 1943.

Returning to Weatherford in 1967, she worked at and retired from Owl Photo.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford.

Survivors include grandchildren, Jackie Lee Zacharias, Shelia Rose Sawyer, Sandi Ann Zacharias, Traci Mae Zacharias; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Zacharias; and eight greatchildren.

Preceding her in death, along with her husband, were a son, Thomas Lloyd Zacharias; a grandson, Tommy Gene Zacharias; and a great grandson, Darion Ondreas Zacharias.

Lewis rites announced at 4:53 pm
Funeral services for Carolyn (Hinz) Lewis, age 58 of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Mennonite Church of Clinton with Rev. Dave Gerbrandt officiating.
Lewis died Sunday evening, Oct. 22, 2006, at Integris Clinton Regional Hospital following a battle with cancer.

Carolyn Kay (Hinz) Lewis was born on Nov. 20, 1947 in Clinton, the daughter of J.P. and Bettye (Adams) Hinz.

Reared in rural Clinton, she graduated from Clinton High School in 1966 and continued her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she earned a degree in music education. She and her brother, Joe Bill Hinz, played piano and violin duets.

She was employed with S&D Drug as an inventory clerk. Her father preceded her in death.

Burial will follow in the Bergthal Cemetery near Corn under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton.

Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Elaine Lewis of Oklahoma City; a son, Jimmy Lewis and his wife, Tabitha; her mother, Bettye Hinz, and a brother, Joe Bill Hinz and his wife, Karen, all of Clinton; and two grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Brown and Zach Lewis, both of Clinton.

Hamblin's funeral set at 4:53 pm
Funeral services for Amelia E. Hamblin, age 80 of Lawton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel at 1502 Fort Sill Blvd. in Lawton with Rev. Shelly Coulter, associate pastor of Centenary United Methodist Church, officiating.
Hamblin died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2006, at her residence. She was born on June 7, 1926, in Bessie. She graduated with a teaching degree from Oklahoma Women’s College and was a teacher with the Lawton Public Schools for 40 years, having taught at Will Rogers Elementary and Swinney Elementary.

She married Robert Eugene Hamblin on Dec. 11, 1959 in Lawton. He died April 16, 1982. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her son, Brian Royal of Lawton; two daughters, Rebecca Royal of the home and Sylvia Markz; a brother, A.O. Heintz of Mangum; and two sisters, Clara Ogle and Elsie Thomason, both of Clinton.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Henry and Alvin; and two sisters, Peggy Semkoff and June Heintz.

War veteran's rites at Nardin at 4:33 pm
Graveside services for World War II combat veteran Lawrence Francis Thompson, 89, were held today at the Nardin Cemetery in Nardin, west of Blackwell.

Thompson died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Clinton.

He was born Dec. 10, 1916, at Deer Creek, the son of William and Ida (Moore) Thompson. Growing up in the Deer Creek area, he attended school there and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after high school.

A member of the 21st Infantry, Thompson was stationed at Fort Sill before serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Wounded on the island of New Guinea, he received a Purple Heart and also earned the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.

After his discharge as a technician fifth grade, Thompson worked in and around the oil fields.

He was a member of American Legion Post 7 at Blackwell.

Thompson also was a member of the Lenora Methodist Church.

He is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Rosa Petree of Taloga. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Nellie and Edith Thompson, Marguerite Markum and Zella Heizer, and three brothers, Ray, John and Bill Thompson.

Burial services were under direction of the Shaw Funeral Home of Taloga.

Graveside services for Lawrence F. Thompson, age 89 of Taloga, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Nardin Cemetery.
Thompson died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at Clinton.

Jay Bently services set at 3:35 pm
Funeral services for farmer-rancher Jay L. Bentley, age 88 of Leedey, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Leedey.
Burial will follow in the Red Star Cemetery at Leedey under the direction of the Shaw Funeral Home of Leedey.

Bentley died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Leedey.

Pearl Brown rites Tuesday at 12:12 pm
Funeral services for Pearl Brown, age 86 of Clinton, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton with minister Doyle Kinney officiating.

Brown died early Saturday at the Grace Living Center in Clinton.

Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery. A full obituary will be released Monday by the funeral home.
